Oxo-vanadium immobilized on polydopamine coated-magnetic nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 ): A heterogeneous nanocatalyst for selective oxidation of sulfides and benzylic alcohols with H 2 O 2

Fe3O4@SiO2@CSH+VO3- as a novel recyclable heterogeneous catalyst with core-shell structure for oxidation of sulfides

Iron nanoparticles, with low toxicity and many active sites, are among the materials that not only reduce waste along with green chemistry but also increase the separation power and recover the catalyst from the reaction environment. In this study, first, the surface of iron nanoparticles was silanized, and in the next step, the complex of chitosan HCl.VO3 was placed on the surface of Fe3O4 (Fe3O4@SiO2@CSH+VO3-). This nanocatalyst is a novel, recoverable, and potent nanocatalyst with high selectivity for the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides. Various physicochemical techniques such as IR, XRD, TGA, SEM, EDX, mapping, TEM, and VSM were used to affirm the well synthesis of the catalyst. Oxidation of sulfides in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as a green oxidant and in ethanol was catalyzed by the Fe3O4@SiO2@CSH+VO3-. All sulfoxides were achieved with high efficiency and in a short time. The notable privileges of this method include facile and economic catalyst synthesis, proper catalyst durability, great performance, simple catalyst isolation, good recovery capability, at least up to 5 times without an index drop in catalytic power.

Nature inspired poly (dopamine quinone -vanadyl) as new modifier for voltammetric determination of uric acid

The preparation of a novel polymer (poly(dopamine quinone-vanadyl) (polyDQV)) bearing dopaminequinone and VO^IV redox groups is described. PolyDQV was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy as well as electrochemical methods such as differential pulse voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The electrocatalytic activity of polyDQV was studied toward electrooxidation of uric acid using differential pulse voltammetry as well as cyclic voltammetry. PolyDQV presents interesting electrocatalytic activity toward UA oxidation in phosphate buffer solution (0.1 M, pH 2) to a well-defined oxidation peak at 0.65 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The polyDQV-modified carbon paste electrode (CPE/polyDQV) presents a precise linear signal-concentration relationship in the ranges of 0.3-5 μM and 5 to 200 μM with a detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.02 μM. The %RSD values for ten replicate measurements of 0.5 and 50 μM UA were 1.8 and 3%, respectively, indicating good repeatability of analytical signals. Appropriate recovery values (in the range 96 to 103%) and good selectivity for UA over common coexisting species (such as ascorbic acid and dopamine) exhibit that CPE/polyDQV is a promising novel platform for sensing UA in human blood serum and urine samples. Ionic-liquid-modified CMK-3 as a support for the immobilization of molybdate ions (MoO42-): Heterogeneous nanocatalyst for selective oxidation of sulfides and benzylic alcohols

A nanometric carbon CMK-3 modified with octylimidazolium ionic liquid and MoO₄^2- as a new hybrid catalyst was synthesized. The study is the first to report a successful immobilization of MoO₄⁼ on the CMK-3/OctIm as a hybrid nanocatalyst. A variety of analytical methods were utilized to determine the properties of the structure and morphology of the synthesized nanocatalyst [CMK-3/Im/MoO₄^2-]. The analytical techniques were transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), X-ray diffraction (XRD), N₂ isotherms (BET), IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). CMK-3/OctIm/MoO₄^2- hybrid catalyst demonstrated a considerable catalytic activity. It is a recyclable nanocatalyst that is utilized to chemoselectively oxidize different types of sulfides to the corresponding sulfoxides and benzylic alcohols to aldehydes using the green oxidant, hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) in high-yields. With a little leaching and variation in activity, it is possible to recover and reuse the catalyst frequently. A combination of molybdate anion and the CMK-3 order mesoporous carbon resulted in an improvement in the performance of catalysis and ease of separation for the reaction procedure.

Hydrogen Peroxide as a Green Oxidant for the Selective Catalytic Oxidation of Benzylic and Heterocyclic Alcohols in Different Media: An Overview

Among a plethora of known and established oxidant in organic chemistry, hydrogen peroxide stands in a special position. It is commercially and inexpensively available, highly effective, selective, and more importantly it is compatible with current environmental concerns, dictated by principles of green chemistry. Several chemicals or their intermediates that are important in our daily life such as pharmaceuticals, flavors, fragrances, etc. are products of oxidation of alcohols. In this review, we introduce hydrogen peroxide as an effective, selective, green and privileged oxidant for the catalyzed oxidation of primary and secondary benzylic and heterocyclic alcohols to corresponding carbonyl compounds in different media such as aqueous media, under solvent-free conditions, various organic solvent, and dual-phase system.

Magnetic Template Anion Polyacrylamide-Polydopamine-Fe3O4 Combined with Ultraviolet/H2O2 for the Rapid Enrichment and Degradation of Diclofenac Sodium from Aqueous Environment

In this study, a novel system was set up by preparing a magnetic flocculant combining with ultraviolet/H₂O₂ to realize the rapid enrichment and degradation of diclofenac sodium (DCFS). For the magnetic flocculant, template anion polyacrylamide (TAPAM) with anion micro-block structure was prepared. Thereafter, polydopamine was used to modify TAPAM, Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles was grafted to the modified TAPAM by chelation, named template anion polyacrylamide-polydopamine-Fe₃O₄ (TAPAM-PDA-Fe₃O₄). Furthermore, the TAPAM-PDA-Fe₃O₄ preparation protocol was optimized by the response surface method (RSM). In the DCFS enrichment section, the rapid separation of flocs from water was realized by an external magnetic field and it indicated that the π–π stacking effect was dominant in neutral/alkaline condition, whereas charge neutralization was favored in acidic conditions. Meanwhile, a DCFS enrichment kinetic curve was much fitted by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and DCFS enrichment isothermal curve was close to the Freundlich isothermal model, indicating the dependence of DCFS quantity enriched by TAPAM-PDA-Fe₃O₄ and a multilayer heterogeneous enrichment process. The degradation experiment confirmed that DCFS was effectively degraded by ultraviolet/H₂O₂/TAPAM-PDA-Fe₃O₄ and the maximum value of DCFS degradation efficiency reached 98.1%. Furthermore, the regeneration experiment showed that the enrichment and degradation efficiency of DCFS could maintain a relatively high level in the initial three recycles.

Needle ball-like nanostructured mixed Cu-Ni-Co oxides: Synthesis, characterization and application to the selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides

A mixed nano-metal oxides of Cu-Ni-Co has been synthesized. Several characterization techniques (EDS, XRD, TEM, and SEM) have been used to provide insight into the nature and structure of the catalyst. The size of this mixed metal oxide is 22 nm. The SEM images indicate that the sample with spherical particles, of which spherical assembly is comprised of elongated rod/needle-like subunits pointing radially outward, creates a needle ball-like structure. To efficiently catalyze the selective oxidation of sulfide towards sulfoxide, this heterogeneous catalyst uses an oxidizing agent (hydrogen peroxide- H₂O₂) and a solvent (acetonitrile) in mild conditions. The influence of reaction temperature and sulfide/oxidant molar ratio was evaluated with respect to sulfide conversion and chemoselectivity towards the sulfoxide product. Under optimized conditions, product yields in the range from 70 to 97% were obtained.

Solventless, selective and catalytic oxidation of primary, secondary and benzylic alcohols by a Merrifield resin supported molybdenum(vi) complex with H2O2 as an oxidant

Here, we have described the synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of a dioxo-molybdenum(vi) complex supported on functionalized Merrifield resin (MR-SB-Mo). The functionalization of Merrifield resin (MR) was achieved in two-steps viz. carbonylation (MR-C) and Schiff base formation (MR-SB). The compounds, MR-C, MR-SB and MR-SB-Mo, were characterized at each step of the synthesis by elemental, SEM, EDX, thermal, BET and different spectroscopic analysis. The catalyst, MR-SB-Mo, efficiently and selectively oxidized a wide variety of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones using 30% H₂O₂ as an oxidant with reasonably good TOF (660 h⁻¹ in case of benzyl alcohol). The catalyst acted heterogeneously under solventless reaction conditions and did not lead to over oxidized products under optimized conditions. The catalyst afforded regeneration and can be reused for at least five reaction cycles without loss of efficiency and product selectivity. A reaction mechanism for the catalytic activity of MR-SB-Mo was proposed and a probable reactive intermediate species isolated.

Synthesis of a Merrifield resin supported dioxomolybdenum(vi) complex. The compound was well characterized and it catalysed the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones with high TOF.
