Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of different dietary supplementation of tomato pomace (TP) and L-arginine (L-Arg) supplementation on sperm characteristics, reproductive performance, and semen biochemical components of aged commercial male broiler breeders. Thirty Ross 308 male broiler breeders (58 wk old) were provided and assigned to 5 dietary treatment groups, including control (CON), 5% TP (TPS-5), 10% TP (TPS-10), 15% TP (TPS-15), and L-Arg supplemented (10% above the recommendation, LAS-10). The results indicated that the semen volume increased in the TPS-15 group compared to that of the LAS-10 (and CON on wk 9) throughout the study (P < 0.05). The sperm concentration significantly increased in TPS-10 and TPS-15 groups in comparison to the other experimental groups. On wk 5 and 7, the sperm viability increased in all TPS groups compared to the CON and LAS-10, while on wk 9, it only increased in the TPS-10 group in comparison to the LAS-10 group (P < 0.05). The hypo-osmotic swelling test decreased in the LAS-10 group compared to the other experimental groups on wk 5 and all TPS groups on wk 7 and 9 (P < 0.05). The sperm total motility and forward progressive motility decreased in the LAS-10 group compared to the other experimental groups (P < 0.05). In contrast, unprogressive motility and immotile sperms were increased in the LAS-10 group compared to the other experimental groups (P < 0.05). In addition, the sperm penetration and fertility rate increased in TPS-10 and TPS-15 groups in comparison to CON and LAS-10 groups (P < 0.05). However, hatchability was reduced in the LAS-10 group (P < 0.05). The semen adenosine triphosphate increased in TPS-10, TPS-15, and LAS-10 groups compared to the CON (P < 0.05). Finally, the semen TAC and superoxidase dismutase decreased in the LAS-10 group (P < 0.05), while the glutathione peroxidase increased in the TPS-15 group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, 15% dietary TPS is recommended to improve the reproductive performance of aged commercial male broiler breeders.

Abstract
Sperm cryopreservation is a widely used assisted reproductive technology for canine species. The long-term storage of dog sperm is effective for the breeding of dogs living far apart, scheduling the time of artificial insemination that suits the female, and preventing diseases of the reproductive tract. However, spermatozoa functions are impaired during the freeze-thaw processes, which may decrease reproductive performance. Numerous attempts have been made to restore such impairments, including the use of cryoprotectants to prevent the damage caused by ice crystal formation, and supplementation of antioxidants to reduce reactive oxygen species generation due to osmotic stress during the procedure. Egg yolk derivatives, antioxidants, and, more recently, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their derivatives have been proposed in this research field. This review article will summarize the current literature available on the topic.

Abstract
In this study, the effects of polyamines, Spermine and Spermidine, on long-term preservation and post-thaw spermatological parameters were evaluated. Moreover, determination of the most suitable polyamine and its dose that can be added to standard extenders were aimed. Four adult Arabian stallions were used in the study. Five ejaculates were collected from each of four stallions via artificial vagina two days interval. Each ejaculate was divided into 13 aliquots. INRA96 (95,5%), egg yolk (2%), and glycerol (2,5%) were used as a control extender. Extenders of experimental groups were prepared with different doses of Spermine and Spermidine (0,1 mg/ml; 0,2 mg/ml; 0,4 mg/ml; 1 mg/ml; 2 mg/ml; 4 mg/ml). Stallion semen that were cryopreserved with Control and experimental extenders were evaluated in terms of Total Motility, Progressive Motility, Plasma Membrane Integrity, Capacitation Index, Acrosome Integrity and DNA Fragmentation Index. At the end of the evaluations, it was determined that 0,2 mg/ml Spermine and 0,4 mg/ml Spermidine showed better Total Motility and Progressive Motility, numerically. On the other hand, it was observed that 4 mg/ml Spermine and Spermidine had the lowest statistically significant values (p < 0,001). While statistically similar differences were obtained between groups in terms of the Plasma Membrane and Acrosome Integrity, it was determined that all experimental groups had lower and statistically significant values in terms of Capacitation and DNA Fragmentation Index (p < 0,001). As result, it was observed that the stallion semen cryopreservation success can be increased by the addition of 1-2 mg/ml Spermine that had effective protection on Capacitation and DNA Fragmentation Index without damaging other spermatological properties.

Abstract
To investigate the effect of supplementation of L-arginine (AR) on sub-fertile buffalo-bulls' ejaculates, 25 ejaculates of poor motility (40 to 55%) were collected by artificial vagina from 5 buffalo-bulls and extended with Tris-yolk extender (1:10) supplemented with different concentrations of AR (0, 3, 4, 5, and 6 mM). Semen was cooled gradually to 4 °C within 2 h and incubated at 4 °C for additional 2 h. Incubated semen samples were evaluated by computer-assisted semen analysis. Results showed that addition of 5 mM AR increased (P < 0.05) total sperm motility and rapid progressive motility percentages, while decreased (P < 0.05) non-motile sperm and static sperm percentages compared with AR-free (control) extender. Increasing the AR level to 6 mM increased (P < 0.05) the percentages of sperm progressive motility and rapid and slow progressive motilities, while decreased (P < 0.05) the non-progressive sperm motility percentages compared with AR-free extender. Supplementation of 5 mM AR improved (P < 0.05) sperm straight linear, curve linear, and average path velocities (36 ± 0.13, 20.6 ± 5.3, and 33.2 ± 8.5, respectively) in comparing with control and other AR treatments. Addition of AR (5 and 6 mM) improved (P < 0.05) the percentages of vitality (89.8 ± 1.9 and 80.0 ± 3.4, respectively), normality (44.3 ± 3.6 and 44.8 ± 1.5, respectively), and functional sperm (20.4 ± 8.6 and 21.0 ± 0.61, respectively), and decreased abnormal neck and tail percentages compared with AR-free extender. All AR levels decreased (P < 0.05) the abnormal neck and tail percentages. Addition of all AR levels had no significant (P > 0.05) effect on the activity of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and lactate dehydrogenase in semen extender. Supplementation of Tris-yolk extender with L-arginine (5 or 6 mM) can improve sperm motility, velocity, vitality, and functional sperm and can decrease tail and neck abnormalities of sub-fertile buffalo ejaculate after 4 h incubation at cool temperature.

Abstract
l-arginine is beneficial for reproductive health; however, whether l-arginine may confer protection against T-2 toxin-induced reproductive impairment is not known. To address this, we used a mice model treated with T-2 toxin to investigate protective effects of l-arginine. Experimentally, we pre-treated mice with designed diet of l-arginine supplementation prior to the T-2 toxin-injected intraperitoneally exposure and then assessed semen quality, fertility and serum testosterone concentration. The results showed that l-arginine improved semen quality (e.g., live spermatozoa, abnormal spermatozoa, and acrosomal integrity of spermatozoa), testicular and cauda epididymal sperm counts, efficiency of sperm production and serum testosterone concentration in mice treated with T-2 toxin. In addition, l-arginine could increase pregnancy rate and decrease fetal resorption rate in females mated with T-2 toxin exposed males. Collectively, these findings suggest that dietary l-arginine supplementation may protect male reproductive impairments in mice treated with T-2 toxin through improving semen quality and serum testosterone levels.

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of l-arginine addition on long-term storability of ram semen. Six Akkaraman rams were used as material. Semen samples were collected. Pooled samples were diluted and were divided into six equal aliquots. While aliquot 1 was kept as control, the stock solutions including 0.1, 0.5, 1, 5 and 10 mm l-arginine were added to other aliquots. All aliquots were routinely frozen in 0.25-ml straws at -130°C liquid nitrogen vapour and stored in liquid nitrogen -196°C until being analysed. The equilibrated and thawed sperm motility, membrane integrity and arginase activity were evaluated. While the 10 mm l-arginine supplementation significantly (p < .001) decreased equilibrated sperm motility, the 5 mm significantly (p < .05) increased the membrane integrity and arginase activity in comparison with the control group. The motility (p < .001) and membrane integrity (p < .01) were determined to be highest in 0.5 mm group, while significant reductions were observed in motility (p < .001) of 10 mm group and arginase activity (p < .05) of 1, 10 mm groups as compared to the control group. It was concluded that in vitro addition of 0.5 mm l-arginine to ram semen may be useful, but 10 mm may be harmful to spermatozoa quality during long-term storage.

Abstract
The present study was designed to assess the possible protective effects of arginine (Arg) against lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced inflammatory response in juvenile Jian carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Jian) in vivo and in enterocytes in vitro. Firstly, inflammatory response was established by exposing enterocytes to different concentrations of LPS for 24 h. Secondly, the protective effects of Arg against subsequent LPS exposure were studied in enterocytes. Finally, we investigated whether dietary Arg supplementation could attenuate immune challenge induced by LPS in vivo. The result indicated that 10 mg/L LPS could induced inflammatory response in enterocytes. Cells exposed to LPS (10-30 mg/L) alone for 24 h resulted in a significant increase in lactate dehydrogenase release (LDH) (P < 0.05). The cell viability, protein content, alkaline phosphatase activity were decreased by LPS (P < 0.05). Moreover, LPS exposure significantly increased TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 mRNA expression in vitro (P < 0.05). However, pre-treatment with Arg remarkably prevented the increase of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 by inhibiting the excessive activation of TLR4-Myd88 signaling pathway through down-regulating TLR4, Myd88, NFκB p65, and MAPK p38 mRNA expression (P < 0.05). Interestingly, the experiment in vivo showed that Arg pre-supplementation could attenuate immune challenge induced by LPS via TLR4-Myd88 signaling pathway, and thus protect fish against LPS-induced inflammatory response. In conclusion, all of these results indicated pre-supplementation with Arg decreased LPS induced immune damage and regulated TLR4-Myd88 signaling pathway in juvenile Jian carp in vivo and in enterocytes in vitro.
