Abstract
Skin wounds are susceptible to infection, leading to severe inflammatory reactions that can progress to chronic wounds, ultimately causing significant physical and mental distress to the patient. In this study, we propose an injectable composite hydrogel achieved through one-pot gelation of oxidized xyloglucan (OXG), cationic polyamide ε-poly-l-lysine (EPL), and surface amino-rich silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs). OXG exhibits commendable anti-inflammatory properties and provides crosslinking sites. SiNPs serve as mechanically reinforced crosslinkers, facilitating the construction of a dynamic Schiff base network. SiNPs significantly reduced the gelation time to 3 s and tripled the storage modulus of the hydrogels. Additionally, the combination of EPL and SiNPs demonstrated synergistic antimicrobial activity against both S. aureus and E. coli. Notably, the hydrogel effectively halted liver bleeding within 30 s. The hydrogel demonstrated outstanding shear-thinning and self-healing properties, crucial considerations for the design of injectable hydrogels. Furthermore, its efficacy was evaluated as a wound dressing in a mouse model with S. aureus infection. The results indicated that, compared to commercial products, the hydrogel exhibited a shorter wound healing time, decreased inflammation, thinner epithelium, increased hair follicles, enhanced neovascularization, and more substantial collagen deposition. These findings strongly suggest the promising potential of the proposed hydrogel as an effective wound dressing for the treatment of infected wounds.

Abstract
Traditional petroleum-based food-packaging materials have poor permeability, limited active packaging properties, and difficulty in biodegradation, limiting their application. We developed a carboxymethylated tamarind seed polysaccharide composite film incorporated with ε-polylysine (CTPε) for better application in fresh-cut agricultural products. The CTPε films exhibit excellent water vapor barrier properties, but the mechanical properties are slightly reduced. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction spectra indicate the formation of hydrogen bonds between ε-PL and CTP, leading to their internal reorganization and dense network structure. With the increase of ε-PL concentration, composite films showed notable inhibition of postharvest pathogenic fungi and bacteria, a significant enhancement of 2,2'- azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical-scavenging activity, and gradual improvement of wettability performance. Cytotoxicity experiments confirmed the favorable biocompatibility when ε-PL was added at 0.3% (CTPε2). In fresh-cut bell pepper preservation experiments, the CTPε2 coating effectively delayed weight loss and malondialdehyde increase preserved the hardness, color, and nutrients of fresh-cut peppers and prolonged the shelf life of the fresh-cut peppers, as compared with the control group. Therefore, CTPε composite films are expected to be a valuable packaging material for extending the shelf life of freshly cut agricultural products.

Abstract
This study investigated the antibacterial and antibiofilm mechanism of ultrasound (US) combined with citral nanoemulsion (CLNE) against Staphylococcus aureus and mature biofilm. Combined treatments resulted in greater reductions in bacterial numbers compared to ultrasound or CLNE treatments alone. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), flow cytometry (FCM), protein nucleic acid leakage, and N-phenyl-l-naphthylamine (NPN) uptake analysis showed that the combined treatment disrupted cell membrane integrity and permeability. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) assays indicated that US+CLNE exacerbated cellular oxidative stress and membrane lipid peroxidation. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) revealed that the synergistic processing of ultrasound and CLNE resulted in cell rupture and collapse. In addition, US+CLNE showed a more pronounced removal effect than both alone in the biofilm on the stainless steel sheet. US+CLNE reduced biomass, the number of viable cells in the biofilm, cell viability and EPS polysaccharide contents. The results of CLSM also showed that US+CLNE disrupted the structure of the biofilm. This research elucidates the synergistic antibacterial and anti-biofilm mechanism of ultrasound combined citral nanoemulsion, which provides a safe and efficient sterilization method for the food industry.

Abstract
Salmonella enterica contamination is a primary cause of global food poisoning. Using phages as bactericidal alternatives to antibiotics could confront the issue of drug resistance. However, the problem of phage resistance, especially mutant strains with multiple phage resistance, is a critical barrier to the practical application of phages. In this study, a library of EZ-Tn5 transposable mutants of susceptible host S. enterica B3-6 was constructed. After the infestation pressure of a broad-spectrum phage TP1, a mutant strain with resistance to eight phages was obtained. Analysis of the genome resequencing results revealed that the SefR gene was disrupted in the mutant strain. The mutant strain displayed a reduced adsorption rate of 42% and a significant decrease in swimming and swarming motility, as well as a significantly reduced expression of the flagellar-related FliL and FliO genes to 17% and 36%, respectively. An uninterrupted form of the SefR gene was cloned into vector pET-21a (+) and used for complementation of the mutant strain. The complemented mutant exhibited similar adsorption and motility as the wild-type control. These results suggest that the disrupted flagellar-mediated SefR gene causes an adsorption inhibition, which is responsible for the phage-resistant phenotype of the S. enterica transposition mutant.

Abstract
Appropriate inhibitors might play important roles in achieving ammonia retention in biological wastewater treatment and its reuse in agriculture. In this study, the feasibility of epsilon-poly-l-lysine (ε-PL) as a novel natural ammonia oxidation inhibitor was investigated. Significant inhibition (ammonia oxidation inhibition rate was up to 96.83%) was achieved by treating the sludge with ε-PL (400 mg/L, 12 h soaking) only once and maintaining for six cycles. Meanwhile, the organic matter and nitrite removal was not affected. This method was effective under the common environmental conditions of biological wastewater treatment. Metatranscriptome uncovered the possible action mechanisms of ε-PL. The ammonia oxidation inhibition was due to the co-decrease of Nitrosomonas abundance, ammonia oxidation genes, and the cellular responses of Nitrosomonas. Thauera and Dechloromonas could adapt to ε-PL by stimulating stress responses, which maintained the organic matter and nitrite removal. Importantly, ε-PL did not cause the enhancement of antibiotic resistance genes and virulent factors. Therefore, ε-PL showed a great potential of ammonia retention, which could be applied in the biological treatment of wastewater for agricultural reuse.

Abstract
ε-poly-l-lysine (ε-PL) holds a strong antibacterial property and is widely used for food preservation. However, the application of ε-PL to enhance fruit disease resistance in postharvest longans (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) has not been explored. The objective of this study was to explore the impact of ε-PL treatment on disease occurrence and energy metabolism of longans infected with Phomopsis longanae Chi (P. longanae). It was found that, in comparison with P. longanae-inoculated longans, ε-PL could decrease the fruit disease index and adenosine monophosphate (AMP) content, increase the amounts of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenosine diphosphate (ADP), and energy charge, and enhance the activities of adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) (such as H+-, Mg2+-, and Ca2+-ATPase) in the mitochondria, protoplasm, and vacuole. The results suggest that the higher levels of ATPase activity and energy status played essential roles in disease resistance of postharvest longan fruit. Therefore, the ε-PL treatment can be used as a safe and efficient postharvest method to inhibit the disease occurrence of longan fruit during storage at room temperature.
