Abstract
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) have become more frequent, intense and extreme in oceanic systems in the past decade, resulting in mass mortality events of marine invertebrates and devastating coastal marine ecosystems. While metabolic homeostasis is a fundamental requirement in stress tolerance, little is known about its role under intensifying MHWs conditions. Here, we investigated impacts of MHWs on the metabolism in pearl oysters (Pinctada maxima) - an ecologically and economically significant bivalve species in tropical ecosystems. Activities of digestive enzymes (gastric proteases, lipases, and amylases) did not significantly respond to various scenario of recurrent MHWs varying from 24 °C to 28 °C (moderate) and 32 °C (severe). The metabolomics analysis revealed nine and five key metabolism pathways under both MHWs scenarios. Specifically, pathways associated with energy metabolism were impaired by moderate MHWs, manifesting in downregulation of differential metabolite (The nicotinic acid and N-acetyl-glutamic acid). The content of CDP-ethanolamine was significantly decrease, and the perturbations of oxidative stress caused by the decreased of content of D-glutamine. Metabolites related to a suite of body functions (e.g., the lipid metabolism, biomineralization, and antioxidant defenses) showed significantly negative responses by severe MHWs. These findings reveal the metabolic impairments of marine bivalves when subjected to MHWs varying in intensity and frequency, implying cascading consequences which deserve further investigation.

Abstract
This study looked at the effects of adding butyric acid (BA) to the diets of juvenile Pacific shrimp and how it affected their response to survival, immunity, histopathological, and gene expression profiles under heat stress. The shrimp were divided into groups: a control group with no BA supplementation and groups with BA inclusion levels of 0.5 %, 1 %, 1.5 %, 2 %, and 2.5 %. Following the 8-week feeding trial period, the shrimp endured a heat stress test lasting 1 h at a temperature of 38 °C. The results showed that the control group had a lower survival rate than those given BA. Interestingly, no mortality was observed in the group receiving 1.5 % BA supplementation. Heat stress had a negative impact on the activities of alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and acid phosphatase (ACP) in the control group. Still, these activities were increased in shrimp fed the BA diet. Similar variations were observed in AST and ALT fluctuations among the different groups. The levels of triglycerides (TG) and cholesterol (CHO) increased with high temperatures but were reduced in shrimp-supplemented BA. The activity of an antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) increased with higher BA levels (P < 0.05). Moreover, the groups supplemented with 1.5 % BA exhibited a significant reduction in malondialdehyde (MDA) content (P < 0.05), suggesting the potential antioxidant properties of BA. The histology of the shrimp's hepatopancreas showed improvements in the groups given BA. Conversely, the BA significantly down-regulated the HSPs and up-regulated MnSOD transcript level in response to heat stress. The measured parameters determine the essential dietary requirement of BA for shrimp. Based on the results, the optimal level of BA for survival, antioxidant function, and immunity for shrimp under heat stress is 1.5 %.

Abstract
Rayon microfibers, micro-sized semi-synthetic polymers derived from cellulose, have been frequently detected and reported as "micropollutants" in marine environments. However, there has been limited research on their ecotoxicity and combined effects with persistent organic pollutants (POPs). To address these knowledge gaps, thick-shell mussels (Mytilus coruscus) were exposed to rayon microfibers at 1000 pieces/L, along with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at 100 and 1000 ng/L for 14 days, followed by a 7-day recovery period. We found that rayon microfibers at the environmentally relevant concentration exacerbated the irreversible effects of PCBs on the immune and digestive systems of mussels, indicating chronic and sublethal impacts. Furthermore, the results of 16 s rRNA sequencing demonstrated significant effects on the community structure, species richness, and diversity of the mussels' intestinal microbiota. The branching map analysis identified the responsive bacteria to rayon microfibers and PCBs belonging to the Proteobacteria, Actinobacteriota, and Bacteroidota phyla. Despite not being considered a conventional plastic, the extensive and increasing use of rayon fibers, their direct toxicological effects, and their interaction with POPs highlight the need for urgent attention, investigation, and regulation to address their contribution to "micropollution".

Abstract
Bivalves are nutritious animal protein source for humans, rich in high quality proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Many studies have shown that ocean warming has detrimental effects on the nutritional quality of bivalves. Although a number of studies are available on the effect of ocean warming on the nutritional value of bivalves, this information is not well organized. In this context, the current study provides a critical review of the effects of ocean warming on the nutritional quality of commercially important edible marine bivalves. In general, ocean warming has caused a reduction in the total lipid and carbohydrate content of bivalves, especially those bivalves inhabiting temperate regions. As for protein, there is no general trend in the effects of ocean warming on the protein reserves of bivalves. In addition, the specific effects of elevated temperature on the macro-nutrients of bivalves highly depend on the tissues, sex and developmental stages of bivalves, as well as seasonal factors. This review not only fills in the knowledge gap regarding the effects of elevated temperature on the macro-nutrients of commercially important marine bivalves but also provides guidance for the establishment of bivalve aquaculture and fisheries management plans to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Abstract
The increased frequency of marine heat waves (MHWs) caused by global climate change is predicted to threaten the survival of economic bivalves, therefore having severely adverse effects on local ecological communities and aquaculture production. However, the study of scallops facing MHWs is still scarce, particularly in the scallop Argopecten irradians irradians, which has a significant share of "blue foods" in northern China. In the present study, bay scallop heart was selected to detect its cardiac performance, oxidative impairment and dynamic molecular responses, accompanied by assessing survival variations of individuals in the simulated scenario of MWHs (32 °C) with different time points (0 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 3 d, 6 d and 10 d). Notably, cardiac indices heart rate (HR), heart amplitude (HA), rate-amplitude product (RAP) and antioxidant enzyme activities superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) all peaked at 24 h but sharply dropped on 3 d, coinciding with mortality. Transcriptome analysis revealed that the heart actively defended against heat stress at the acute stage (<24 h) via energy supply, misfolded proteins correction and enhanced signal transduction, whereas regulation of the defense response and apoptotic process combined with twice transcription initiation were the dominant responses at the chronic stage (3-10 d). In particular, HSP70 (heat shock protein 70), HSP90 and CALR (calreticulin) in the endoplasmic reticulum were identified as the hub genes (top 5 %) in the HR-associated module via WGCNA (weighted gene co-expression network analysis) trait-module analysis, followed by characterization of their family members and diverse expression patterns under heat exposure. Furthermore, RNAi-mediated knockdown of CALR expression (after 24 h) significantly weakened the thermotolerance of scallops, as evidenced by a drop of 1.31 °C in ABT (Arrhenius break temperature) between the siRNA-injected group and the control group. Our findings elucidated the dynamic molecular responses at the transcriptome level and verified the cardiac functions of CALR in bay scallops confronted with stimulated MHWs.
