Abstract
We studied the chemical composition and the in vivo AMEn content and apparent (AID) and standardized (SID) ileal digestibility of CP and amino acids (AA) of 27 samples of soybean meals (SBM) from Argentina (ARG), Brazil (BRA), and USA, collected in Spain. On 88% DM basis, the BRA meals had more CP (46.9 vs. 46.0 and 45.9%; P < 0.05) and less sucrose (5.21 vs. 6.28 and 6.47%; P < 0.001) and stachyose (4.20 vs. 4.66 and 4.78%; P < 0.05) than the USA and ARG meals. Urease activity, protein dispersibility index, KOH protein solubility, and trypsin inhibitor activity values, were higher for the USA meals than for the South American meals (P < 0.05). In the in vivo trial, broilers received a common crumble diet from 0 to 16 d of age and then, their respective experimental diets (53% of a N-free diet and 47% of each of the 27 SBM tested) in mash form, for 5 d. The AMEn (2,334 vs. 2,282 and 2,277 kcal/kg; P = 0.062) and the AID (87.3 vs. 86.7 and 86.4%; P = 0.054) and SID (91.9 vs. 91.2 and 90.8%; P < 0.05) of the protein, were greater for the USA meals than for the ARG and BRA meals. In fact, the SID of Lys (93.5 vs. 93.0 and 92.1%; P < 0.001) and of the sum of Lys, Met, Thr, Trp, and Cys (91.4 vs. 91.0 and 90.2%; P < 0.05) were greater for the USA meals than for the ARG and BRA meals. In summary, the chemical composition, protein quality indicators, AMEn content, and ileal digestibility of the CP and the AA of the SBM, varied with the country of origin of the soybeans. In order to increase the accuracy of the feed formulation process, the composition and nutrient content of commercial batches of SBM, by country of origin should be controlled and periodically updated.

Abstract
APMAP is single transmembrane arylesterase which plays a cardinal role in adipogenesis. In this experiment, three tissue and blood samples of Rex rabbits at 3 growing periods were selected. The expression levels of APMAP gene in different tissues were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and the content of APMAP in the blood was detected by Elisa. The results showed that fat deposition, the expression of APMAP in muscle and the content of APMAP in the blood increased rapidly during the growth of Rex rabbits. The correlation analysis showed that the correlation coefficient between APMAP content in the blood and the expression level of APMAP gene in longissimus lumborum muscle was 0.75(p < 0.05); the correlation coefficients between APMAP content in the blood and intramuscular fat and 24-hour pH were 0.90 (p < 0.01) and 0.75 (p < 0.05), respectively. According to the analysis results, we inferred APMAP content in the blood in Rex rabbits may influence meat quality and the meat quality of high APMAP content in the blood in Rex rabbits is better. These results revealed APMAP content in the blood may be one of the important signs for meat quality traits of molecular markers.

Abstract
The aim of the present review was to assess whether rabbit meat production can help to improve food security in Ukraine and whether it can make a meaningful contribution to the national economy. Rabbit meat is a nutrient-rich and affordable food with a lower environmental impact than red meat from cattle or sheep. Rabbit meat is considered healthy, as it is lower in fat, cholesterol and sodium than other types of meat, and rich in protein. In addition, rabbit meat proteins can serve as a source of bioactive peptides with the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition properties. The health-promoting properties of rabbit meat and role of associated by-products in providing nutritious and safe food for consumers, and in reducing waste in the meat sector, should be promoted. In Ukraine, rabbit meat products are already recommended as part of a healthy diet for children, pregnant women and the elderly, and the market could be broadened by introducing more rabbit-based products for the whole population. Rabbit production in Ukraine is a promising area of economic activity and with a broader market this segment could increase further and become a significant part of the economy. However, the rabbit farming sector in Ukraine needs comprehensive improvement to address existing issues, including the introduction of sustainable production methods in accordance with European animal welfare and meat quality standards.

Abstract
The influence of the Ca and nutrient content of the diet fed from 16 to 19 wk of age, on egg production, egg quality, and tibiae mineralization, was studied in brown egg-laying hens from 16 to 63 wk of age. The experimental design was completely randomized with 4 prelay diets organized as a 2 × 2 factorial with 2 levels of Ca (2.5 vs. 3.8%) and 2 standardized ileal digestible Lys (g/kg) to AMEn (Mcal/kg) ratios (DLys:ME; 2.84 vs. 3.13) as main effects. From 20 to 63 wk of age, all hens received a common diet with 2.75 Mcal AMEn/kg, 0.75% DLys, and 3.8% Ca. Each treatment was replicated 18 times and the experimental unit was a cage with 10 hens. Hen production and egg quality traits were measured by period (4 wk), feeding phase (prelay and lay), and cumulatively (16-63 wk of age) and tibiae mineralization was measured at 63 wk of age. During the prelay phase, an increase in Ca delayed egg production (P = 0.065), reduced feed intake (P < 0.05), and increased BW gain (P < 0.01) and percentage of shell of the egg (P < 0.05). An increase in the DLys:ME ratio increased feed intake (P < 0.01) and reduced egg size (P < 0.01). Nutrient content of the prelay diets did not affect hen production during the lay phase, except egg weight that increased (P < 0.05) in hens previously fed the low DLys:ME ratio. Eggshell quality (weight, percentage, strength, and thickness) in this phase was better (P < 0.05) in hens previously fed 3.8% Ca. Cumulatively (16-63 wk of age), hens fed the high Ca prelay diets had better shell quality but tibiae mineralization was not affected. In conclusion, an increase in Ca content of the prelay diet from 2.5 to 3.8% improved shell quality for the entire egg cycle without showing any negative effect on hen production.

Abstract
Simple Summary Modern consumers often look for convenience foods that are fast and easy to prepare, such as burgers. Burgers can be made from different types of meat with various additives. Due to its high nutritional value and low calorie and fat content, rabbit meat can be used as a raw material for preparing burgers. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of their food choices, and they tend to avoid synthetic and artificial ingredients in meat products, which can be toxic. In order to meet customer expectations, producers often replace synthetic additives with natural alternatives that extend the shelf life of meat products and enhance their taste and aroma. Garlic is widely used in the meat processing industry, and it pairs well with rabbit meat. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of rabbit meat burgers with the addition of garlic powder, ramsons powder or their combination. It was found that garlic powder and ramsons powder can be added to rabbit meat burgers to extend their shelf life and improve their sensory attributes. Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of rabbit meat burgers with the addition of garlic (Allium Sativum L.) powder (G), ramsons (Allium ursinum L.) powder (R) or their combination (GR). The effects of additives on lipid oxidation, color parameters, microbiological quality and organoleptic properties of raw and oven-baked burgers were analyzed before and after refrigerated storage. Four meat formulations were prepared: control (C)—without additives, with the addition of G (0.35 g/100 g of meat), R (0.35 g/100 g of meat) and GR (0.35 g/100 g of meat each). The addition of GR induced an increase in pH and TBARS values in raw and oven-baked burgers. The pH of raw and oven-baked burgers was also affected by storage time (ST), and it was lower after 7 days of storage (ST7) than before storage (ST0). TBARS values were higher at ST7 only in raw burgers. The addition of R and GR decreased the values of color parameter L* (lightness) relative to G and C in raw and oven-baked burgers. The greatest changes in parameter a* (redness) were observed after the addition of R and GR, both before and after heat treatment. The values of parameter b* (yellowness) increased after the addition of R, GR (raw and oven-baked burgers) and G (raw burgers). In raw burgers, color saturation (C*) was higher in groups R and GR than in groups C and G, and the value of hue angle (h°) was lower in burgers with GR than in those with G and R. In oven-baked burgers, the values of C* and h° were lower in group GR than in the remaining treatments (C, G and R). In raw burgers, ST had no effect on the values of L*, whereas the values of parameters a*, b*, C* and h° were lower at ST7 than at ST0. In oven-baked burgers, the values of L* were higher at ST0 than at ST7, and the values of a*, b*, C* and h° were higher at ST7 than at ST0. The tested additives had no influence on the presence of off-odors in raw burgers. This parameter was affected by ST, and its value was lower at ST0 than at ST7. The appearance and overall acceptability of burgers were affected only by additives, and raw burgers containing GR received the lowest scores. After heat treatment, control burgers scored lowest for all attributes, whereas burgers with the addition of R and GR received the highest scores. The analyzed additives had no effect on the growth of Enterobacteriacea,Pseudomonas spp., lactic acid bacteria or total aerobic psychrotrophic bacteria. However, the counts of all identified bacteria increased at ST7. In conclusion, garlic powder and ramsons powder can be added to rabbit meat burgers to extend their shelf life and improve their eating quality.

Abstract
Simple Summary Rabbit meat is popular with consumers mainly for its high-quality protein. Among the main factors influencing the characteristics of rabbit meat proteins to appertain the breed, genotype, carcass part and age. Conventional production of rabbit meat in many European countries is mainly ensured by intensive production systems, when commercial meat-type albinotic rabbit crossbreds are used. However, spotted and solidly coloured lines of meat rabbit breeds have begun to be used in rabbit breeding schemes as some consumers have begun to negatively perceive meat from albinotic coloured rabbits. The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of the sire genotype, sex and carcass part on the composition of meats of rabbits fattened under conditions where no synthetic drugs were used. Crossbreeding of Mecklenburger Schecke sires with a commercial dam line of HYLA rabbits resulted in a worse nutritional quality of meat proteins in progeny. These findings point to a possible risk of alterations in the nutritional quality of meat proteins when using different rabbit sire genotypes than those originally intended for the specific commercial crossbreeding scheme. Abstract The aim of the study was to assess the effects of the sire genotype, sex and carcass part on the composition of the meat of rabbits, which were fattened under conditions where no synthetic drugs were used. As for carcass parts, the higher content of both total amino acids (AA) and all essential AA (EAA) monitored was found in the Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) muscle as compared to hind leg meat (p ˂ 0.001). Significant effects of the rabbit sire genotype and the genotype x sex interaction on proportions of some AA in meat were found (p ˂ 0.001). Crossbreeding of the Mecklenburger Schecke (MS) sires with a commercial dam line of HYLA rabbits resulted in a lower proportion of the total AA and all EAA monitored in meats of MS sired males as compared to MS sired females and HYLA rabbits (p ˂ 0.05). The sex-related effect on AA profile was not so noticeable in final commercial crossbreds of HYLA rabbits when compared to MS sired progeny. These findings point to a possible risk of alterations in the nutritional quality of meat proteins when using different rabbit sire genotypes than those originally intended for the specific commercial crossbreeding scheme. However, on the contrary, higher contents of magnesium (p ˂ 0.05), manganese (p ˂ 0.001) and zinc (p ˂ 0.05) were found in meats of MS sired progeny as compared to HYLA rabbits.

Abstract
Rabbit meat has outstanding nutritional characteristics—it is a lean meat with low fat, cholesterol and sodium content, with high-biological-value proteins, potassium, phosphorus, selenium, iron and vitamin B12 level. The dietary inclusion of natural bioactive compounds can improve the quality of rabbit meat. The present study evaluated the effect of enterocin 7420 (Ent 7420) and sage (Salvia officinalis) extract on the quality and mineral content of rabbit meat. A total of 96 Hyla rabbits (aged 35 days) were divided into E (Ent 7420; 50 µL/animal/d), S (sage extract; 10 µL/animal/d), E + S (Ent 7420 and sage in combination) and control (C) groups. Additives were administrated in drinking water for 21 days. A significant increase in meat iron (p < 0.01) content was noted; phosphorus and zinc levels were also elevated in experimental groups, compared with control data. Ent 7420 and sage treatment reduced the calcium and manganese (p < 0.01) contents. The physico-chemical traits of rabbit meat were not negatively influenced by treatment. Based on these results, diet supplementation, mostly with Ent 7420 but also in combination with sage, could enhance the quality of rabbit meat mineral, with a focus on its iron, phosphorus and zinc contents.

Abstract
Encephalitozoon cuniculi (E. cuniculi) is a
microsporidian parasite commonly detected in rabbits and can infect humans and cause
encephalitozoonosis. And Toxoplasma gondii is a prevalent parasite
distributed worldwide and can infect almost all warm-blooded animals, including humans.
The aim of the current study was to investigate the seroprevalence of E.
cuniculi and Toxoplasma gondii, and risk factors of infection
in pet rabbits reared in eastern coastal areas of China (Tianjin, Shandong, Jiangsu,
Zhejiang, Shanghai and Fujian). Total 222 blood samples of pet rabbits were collected from
local veterinary hospitals. The seropositivity rates of E. cuniculi were
16.22% (36/222) according to an Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Female pet
rabbits was significantly higher than that in males (P=0.002), Zhejiang
were markedly higher than those in Jiangsu and Shanghai (P=0.017,
P=0.022), and cross-breed rabbits were dramatically higher than those
in Chinchilla, New Zealand white, Rex (P=0.02, P=0.006,
P=0.008). The seroprevalence of T. gondii was 13.06%
(29/222) by the method of ELISA. The seroprevalence in Zhejiang was significantly higher
than that in Shanghai (P=0.017). No difference in seroprevalence was
detected with respect to the gender, age, species, health status, or season. These
findings show that E. cuniculi and T. gondii are present
and spread in pet rabbits. Therefore, pet rabbits should be considered as an important
reservoir of encephalitozoonosis for humans and maybe important implication for public
health in eastern coastal areas of China.

Abstract
A new method based on spectrophotometry combined with graphitic digestion was developed for quantitative assessment of phosphate in frozen and chilled chicken meat. Digestion reagents comprising HNO3 (conc.) & H2SO4 (conc.) and HNO3 (5 M) & H2SO4 (conc.) were found to have optimal composition, affording similar recovery values of 100% and 99%, respectively, with excellent linearity (R2 > 0.999) and good limit of detection (LOD = 0.032 mg/L) and limit of quantification (LOQ = 0.10 mg/L), whereas other reagents offered lower recoveries (0-1.73%). Phosphate was found in concentrations of 3.38-5.90 g/kg and 3.96-26.94 g/kg in frozen and chilled chicken, respectively. Chilled chicken contained higher amounts of phosphate (>20 g/kg) than recommended by the European Commission (EC, 5 g/kg), either alone or in a mixture of processed meat products. This method is simple, cost-effective, and can be used as an alternative for analyzing phosphate in various samples comprising a similar matrix.

Abstract
The objective of this work was to elucidate the impact of cage density on growth efficiency, carcass yield, and muscle amino acid profile of fattening rabbits. In total, 96 weaned rabbits were assigned into three cage densities: low cage density (LCD) = 1425 cm2/rabbit; medium cage density (MCD) = 850 cm2/rabbit; high cage density (HCD) = 625 cm2/rabbit. Compared with the HCD, the body gain and feed conversion ratio were better in the LCD and MCD groups (P = 0.003 and 0.004, respectively). The MCD and HCD groups had lower hot carcass weight (P = 0.012) and dressing percentage (P = 0.022) than the LCD group. Compared with the HCD group, the LCD and MCD groups exhibited greater serum GSH (P = 0.029) and SOD (P = 0.032), but significantly lower levels of serum cortisol and cholesterol (P = 0.001 and 0.026, respectively). Regarding the amino acid profile of longissimus dorsi and leg muscles, the LCD group had significantly higher levels of muscle lysine and threonine than the HCD and MCD groups (P˂0.05). The current study indicates that the MCD (850 cm2/rabbit) could maintain an acceptable growth performance, carcass traits, and welfare-related parameters. Furthermore, only the low cage density (1425 cm2/rabbit) may preserve the levels of essential (lysine, isoleucine, and threonine) and nonessential (histidine, proline, and glysein) amino acids in the longissimus dorsi and leg muscles of growing rabbits.

Abstract
The objective was to assess that potential health risk from Cd, Cu, and Pb, through the consumption of hunted red-legged partridge and wild rabbit meat, with special focus on the population of hunters and their relatives. Mineral content was analyzed by atomic absorption methods (F-AAS for Cu and GF-AAS for Cd and Pb) after microwave digestion of lyophilized samples. The average concentrations of these elements were 0.008 and 0.01 mg/kg for Cd; 1.41 and 1.63 mg/kg for Cu and 0.98 and 1.28 mg/kg for Pb in wild rabbit and red-legged partridge meat respectively. The dietary, risk assessment was performed by assuming two intake scenarios based on the obtained results of the survey on game meat consumption and the current maximum recommended intakes of Cd, Cu, and Pb, and then, the hazard quotients (THQ and TTHQ) were calculated. The data show that exposure to these metals from eating red-legged partridge and wild rabbit meat from a hunting provenance is relatively low and generally greater in the hunter population. The risk assessment revealed that moderate or low consumption of meat of these species does not offer a significant public health risk. Moreover, hazard quotients values for these metals of red-legged partridge and rabbit meat consumption in hunters and nonhunters are below 1. However, a high Pb content in the meat of these species and a high consumption may pose a greater health risk to hunters.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the oxidative stability and sensory quality of dry-cured rabbit legs produced with a reduction or replacement of 50% of NaCl by KCl and with the addition of monosodium glutamate (MG). Oxidative stability was evaluated during 90 days of storage at 20 °C by determining pH, redox potential (Eh), and TBARS while overall liking and sensory profile were measured at the beginning of storage. The results indicated that oxidative stability of the dry-cured rabbit legs was not affected by the sodium reformulation. However, TBARS values increased about 15-fold during storage in all treatments. Dry-cured rabbit legs produced with KCl showed lower scores (P < 0.05) for the overall liking and flavor attributes as "astringent flavor", "bitter taste" and "metallic flavor". The addition of MG to products with 50% NaCl reduction provided a liking and a sensory profile similar to the product with 100% NaCl.

Abstract
The present review evaluates and compares the effects achieved after application of rabbit-derived bacteriocin-producing strain Enterococcus faecium CCM7420 with probiotic properties and its bacteriocin Ent7420. The experiments included varying duration of application (14 and 21 days), form of application (fresh culture and lyophilized form), combination with herbal extract and application of the partially purified enterocin-Ent7420, produced by this strain. Results from these studies showed that E. faecium CCM7420 strain was able to colonize the gastrointestinal tract (caecum) of rabbits (in the range < 1.0-6.7 log cycle, respectively 3.66 log cycle on average), to change the composition of intestinal microbiota (increased lactic acid bacteria, reduced counts of coliforms, clostridia and staphylococci), to modulate the immunity (significant increase of phagocytic activity), morphometry (enlargement absorption surface in jejunum, higher villi height:crypt depth (VH:CD) ratio), physiological (serum biochemistry; altered total proteins, glucose and triglycerides levels) and parasitological (Eimeria sp. oocysts) parameters and to improve weight gains (in the range 4.8-22.0%, respectively 11.2% on average), feed conversion ratio and meat quality (physicochemical traits and mineral content).

Abstract
Rabbit meat bekasam is a traditional fermentation product from
Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the chemical and microbiological
characteristics of rabbit meat bekasam during the fermentation
process in order to isolate, characterize (in vitro and
in vivo), and identify lactic acid bacteria (LAB) as the
probiotic candidate. The chemical contents of bekasam on 7-day
fermentation were investigated in explorative and experimental methods in a
completely randomized design. A proximate analysis reported a decrease in the
moisture content, fat and carbohydrate content, and an increase in protein
content. Also, lactic acid content was increased from 0.48% to
1.12%, and pH was decreased from 5.3 to 4.3. Other properties indicated
different values, such as bacteria (2.75×106 to
4.45×107 CFU/g), total LAB (3.82×106 to
4.67×108 CFU/g), total yeast (9.89×106
to 3.82×108 CFU/g) and total mould (4.34×101
to 4.86×103 CFU/g). The experiment produced nine LAB isolates,
including two probiotics subjected to further 16S rRNA gene analysis, which
indicated that Lactobacillus buchneri was the potential
probiotic isolate. After being tested on BALB/c mice, L.
buchneri could improve the immune system by inhibiting the growth
of Coliform and Salmonella.

Abstract
Higher rabbit meat consumption can be ensured by increasing of its quality due to its improved nutritional properties. The effect of enterocin M (EntM) and sage on growth performance, physico-chemical properties, fatty acid (FA), amino acid (AA), and mineral concentrations of rabbit meat was evaluated. Sixty-four rabbits (M91 meatline, both sexes) were divided into three experimental: E (EntM), S (sage), E + S (EntM + sage) groups and control group (C). The additives were administrated in drinking water during 21 days. Lower pH (E, S: P < 0.05; E + S: P < 0.001) and decrease in water content were noted in all experimental groups compared with controls (C). Higher values of lightness (L*), yellowness (b*), and redness (a*; except group E) were measured. The sage administration increased the fat and protein contents (P < 0.05), the meat energy value (S vs. C: P < 0.01; S vs. E and E + S: P < 0.05), the concentrations of arachidonic (P < 0.05), eicosapentaeonic (P < 0.05), and oleic acids (P < 0.01), magnesium (P < 0.05), and potassium (P < 0.01) content. The additives did not influence the rabbit meat AA composition. The sage diet inclusion could improve the quality of rabbit meat due to its higher protein, fat, and energy contents and enhance the PUFA and mineral content of rabbit meat. Moreover, the effect of EntM on meat color parameters, FA and AA composition, has not been tested in rabbits previously.

Abstract
<p>The nutritional and dietary properties of rabbit meat make it an ideal food for children, recommended by the World Health Organisation. However, the presence of children under 18 in the home has been found to decrease the frequency of rabbit meat consumption. If we focus on households with children under 18, 52.5% of minors do not consume rabbit meat. The main reason why children (intended as people under 18 yr old) do not consume rabbit meat is the fact that they do not like it (40.9%) and because it is not bought/eaten at home (30.9%). Faced with this situation, there is a pressing need to seek appropriate strategies to adapt rabbit meat for consumption by the youngest family members. In light of the results, the following strategies are proposed. First, the development of functional foods for babies and children, such as rabbit meat enriched with ω3 and docosahexaenoic acid. Secondly, improving meat tenderness. Third, adapting rabbit meat presentations for children (burgers, nuggets, sausages, marinades …), converting them into convenience products for parents and extending their shelf life. Fourth, adapting the labelling/packaging for children to attract attention of both parents and offspring. Finally, developing communication strategies on the nutritional value of rabbit meat aimed at both children and parents. It is observed that if minors consume rabbit meat, they also eat other types of meat such as lamb and beef more often. Therefore, in this type of households a varied and complete diet is consumed in terms of meat consumption, so it would be necessary to rethink joint communication strategies among the three meat sectors. Promoting rabbit meat consumption among the under 18s has several consequences, as in the future they will be in charge of household purchases or share this responsibility.</p>

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a cauliflower leaf powder (CLP)-enriched diet on the performance, quality and antioxidative potential of rabbit meat. No significant differences were found for live performance parameters between rabbits fed with standard (SD) and CLP diet. Dietary supplementation influenced the meat traits of rabbits: CLP meat showed significantly lower drip loss after 48 h, cooking loss, and a significantly higher lightness (L*) and redness (a*) values, vitamin A and vitamin E content, and oxidative stability, compared to SD meat. Moreover, the CLP supplementation caused a significant decrease in SFA and increase in PUFA percentage of rabbit intramuscular fat. The statistical analysis also showed a significant effect of dietary fortification on phenolic content and antioxidant activity of rabbit meat which resulted higher in meat of CLP group. This study highlighted that dietary fortification with CLP is a valid strategy to produce rabbit meat with better technological and functional quality.

Abstract
Skeletal muscle development plays an important role in muscle quality and yield, which decides the economic value of livestock. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to be associated with skeletal muscle development. However, little is revealed about the function of lncRNAs in rabbits' muscle development. LncRNAs and mRNAs in two rabbit breeds (ZIKA rabbits (ZKR) and Qixin rabbits (QXR)) with different growth rates at three developmental stages (0 day, 35 days, and 84 days after birth) were researched by transcriptome sequencing. Differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs were identified for two rabbit breeds at the same stages by DESeq package. Co-expression correlation analysis of differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs were performed to construct lncRNA⁻mRNA pairs. To explore the function of lncRNAs, Gene Ontology (GO) analysis of co-expression mRNAs in lncRNA⁻mRNA pairs were performed. In three comparisons, there were 128, 109, and 115 differentially expressed lncRNAs, respectively. LncRNAs TCONS_00013557 and XR_518424.2 differentially expressed in the two rabbit breeds might play important roles in skeletal muscle development, for their co-expressed mRNAs were significantly enriched in skeletal muscle development related GO terms. This study provides potentially functional lncRNAs in skeletal muscle development of two rabbit breeds and might be beneficial to the production of rabbits.

Abstract
A cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2014 to December 2015 to determine seroprevalence and potential risk factors associated with Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) infection in domestic rabbits and humans in Egypt. In total 290 blood samples were collected from humans (n=140) and slaughtered rabbits (n=150) and were analyzed using ELISA for T. gondii IgM and IgG antibodies. T. gondii IgM and IgG antibodies were detected in, respectively, 9 (6%) and 40 (26.7%) of 150 rabbits raised in Cairo, Qalyubia, and Sharkia Governorates, Egypt. Corresponding overall seroprevalences for human participants were 5.7% and 35.7%, respectively. Rabbit age, management (farm, backyard and pet shop) and the presence of cats at rabbit raising areas were significantly associated with the seroprevalence of T. gondii IgG antibodies. T. gondii IgG antibodies seropositivity in pregnant participants and rabbit butchers were 0.17 and 0.63 times lower than immunocompromised participants, respectively. However, participants who consumed undercooked rabbit meat was 7.59 times higher than participants who consumed meat from other sources. The results indicate that domestic rabbits are a potential source of T. gondii infections in human in Egypt. Thus, dissemination of protective measures is essential, especially for rabbit butchers and immunocompromised individuals.

Abstract
This study evaluated the growth, carcass characteristics and meat quality of indigenous rabbits in northern Pakistan. Weaned rabbits (age 35 days, weight 323 g) of four distinct phenotypes (white, black and white, brown and black) were fed four experimental diets: alfalfa hay (AH), berseem fodder (BF), BF supplemented with low-level concentrate (50 %; LLC) and high-level concentrate (75 %; HLC). Each experimental diet was fed to 48 rabbits, 12 of each phenotype, in a randomized complete block design. The duration of the experiment was 55 days, including 1 week of adaptation. Rabbits fed the BF and AH diets had poor body weight gain (P < 0.05) compared to rabbits fed the LLC and HLC diets. Feed conversion efficiency was best in the LLC (4.47) and HLC (4.58) groups. Average carcass yield (743 g) and carcass dressing percentage (56.2) were higher (P < 0.05) in LLC. Growth rate was not improved significantly by feeding HLC. Fat deposition in animals was higher (P < 0.05) in the groups supplemented with concentrate. Cost per kilogram of rabbit meat was lowest (P < 0.05) for BF, followed by AH, LLC and HLC. Brown phenotypes had the best (P < 0.05) feed conversion efficiency, body weight gain, carcass yield and carcass dressing. It was concluded that local rabbits do not necessarily need high levels of concentrates but can be well fattened with low-level concentrates along with forages.

Abstract
The effect of freeze-dried bacteriocinogenic and probiotic strain Enterococcus faecium CCM7420 on the mineral content and carcass quality of rabbits was investigated. Significant increase in iron content in the carcass samples was recorded during the probiotic treatment, whereas the concentrations of calcium and copper decreased in the experimental groups compared with the Control. The treatment did not have a negative influence on the pH, colour, water-holding capacity, protein and fat contents or energetic value of the rabbit carcass. Inferring from the higher iron content we conclude that the diet supplementation with bacteriocinogenic and probiotic strain E. faecium CCM7420 may enhance the mineral quality of rabbit meat.

Abstract
Though a great amount of chicken by-products are consumed everyday in many countries worldwide, however, no attention has been paid to the investigation of nutritional composition of these by-products. In the present work, the basic information regarding the aspects of nutritional composition of chicken by-products such as; liver, gizzard, heart, lung, crop, small intestines, cecum and duodenum was studied. Our results revealed that the approximate composition range (minimum to maximum) of these by-products was found as such: moisture 76.68-83.23%; fat 0.81-4.53%, protein 10.96-17.70% and calories 983.20-1,426.0 cal/g tissue, in which liver and gizzard had the highest protein content. Liver had higher (p<0.05) vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6 contents in comparison to other remaining by-products. Total saturated fatty acids (SFA), unsaturated fatty acids (UFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) levels ranged between the by-products from 31.82% to 43.96%, 56.04% to 68.19%, and 18.27% to 32.05%, respectively. Remarkably, all of by-products showed desirable PUFA/SFA ratios. Furthermore, all of chicken by-products, especially liver, contained higher levels of trace elements (e.g., Fe, Mn and Zn) in comparison with those from muscle tissues published in literature. Overall, the study indicated that most of chicken by-products examined are good sources of essential nutrients and these obtained results will be the useful information to consumers and meat processors.

Abstract
Though the edible bovine by-products are widely used for human consumption in most countries worldwide but the scientific information regarding the nutritional quality of these by-products is scarce. In the present study, the basic information regarding the yields, physicochemical and nutritional compositions of edible Hanwoo bovine by-products was studied. Our results showed that the yields, physicochemical and nutritional composition widely varied between the by-products examined. The highest pH values were found in rumen, reticulum, omasum and reproductive organ. Heart, liver, kidney and spleen had the lowest CIE L* values and highest CIE a* values. Liver had the highest vitamin A, B2 and niacin contents whereas the highest B1 and B5 contents were found in kidney. The highest Ca content was found in rumen, reticulum, omasum, head and leg while the highest Mn and Fe contents were found in rumen, omasum and spleen, respectively. Liver had the highest Cu content. Total essential amino acids (EAA)/amino acids (AA) ratios ranged between the by-products from 38.37% to 47.41%. Total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) levels ranged between the by-products from 2.26% to 26.47%, and most by-products showed favorable PUFA/SFA ratios. It is concluded that most of by-products examined are good sources of essential nutrients and these data will be of great importance for promotion of consumption and utilization of beef by-products in future.

The Effect of Humic-Fatty Acid Preparation on Production Parameters and Meat Quality of Growing RabbitsThe aim of the study was to determine the effect of a humic-fatty acid preparation on production parameters and meat quality of rabbits. Three groups of New Zealand White rabbits were used (one control and two experimental) with 8 animals per group. The animals of group C (control) were fed standard pelleted diet, group H5 received a control diet supplemented with 5%, and group H10 a control diet with 10% humic-fatty acid preparation. The experiment was terminated after 6 weeks feeding, when rabbits were slaughtered. The experimental groups showed higher gains and a higher feed conversion ratio than the control group. The dietary inclusion of the experimental additive had a beneficial effect on the meat quality traits, such as Fe concentration, hardness and colour, but it also increased the susceptibility of fat to oxidative changes.

Abstract
The biocompatibility and strength retention of a Mg-Ca-Zn alloy were studied to evaluate its efficacy for osteosynthesis applications. Mg-Ca-Zn alloy and self-reinforced poly l-lactide (SR-PLLA) bone screws were implanted into New Zealand rabbits for radiography analysis, micro computed tomography analysis, histomorphometry, hematology, serum biochemistry, histopathology, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry analysis. Bending and torsion tests were performed on intact specimens to find the initial mechanical strength of these Mg-Ca-Zn alloy bone screws. Strength retention of the Mg-Ca-Zn alloy implants were calculated from in vivo degradation rates and initial mechanical strength. Based on the animal study, Mg-Ca-Zn alloy bone screw showed absence of subcutaneous gas pockets, characteristic surface erosion properties, faster degradation rate than SR-PLLA bone screw, normal reference range of hematology and serum biochemistry, better histopathological response than SR-PLLA bone screw, and stable concentrations of each constituent element in soft tissues surrounding the implants. The initial strength and strength retention of Mg-Ca-Zn alloy were compared with those of various biomaterials. The initial strength of Mg-Ca-Zn alloy was higher than those of biostable and biodegradable polymers. The strength retention of Mg-Ca-Zn alloy bone screws was similar to those of biodegradable polymer. Therefore, this Mg-Ca-Zn alloy represents an excellent biodegradable biomaterial candidate for osteosynthesis applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rabbit meat has excellent nutritive properties. The purpose of this study was to characterize rabbit meat and offal; in particular, the lipid fraction was studied in order to evaluate total and positional fatty acid (FA) compositions of triacylglycerol (TAG) and phosphatidylcholine (PC) fractions. Eight samples of weaned and eight of fattened rabbits were considered. RESULTS Fattened rabbit meat contained slightly higher protein percentage content (P < 0.05) in comparison to weaned (20.1% versus 18.0%). Calcium content was higher in meat than in offal, unlike sodium, iron, zinc, manganese and copper. The cholesterol content in offal was much higher than in meat. FA profiles of total lipid showed a high percentage of unsaturated fatty acids and an n-6/n-3 ratio of 10.3 for fattened rabbit meat. Stereospecific analysis of TAG and PC was carried out on an eight-sample pool of each meat and offal from weaned and fattened rabbits. In all samples the sn-2-position was prevalently esterified with oleic and linoleic acids in TAG, with polyunsaturated fatty acids in PC. CONCLUSION Lipids from rabbit meat presented higher content of monounsaturated FA and lower n-6/n-3 ratio in comparison to offal, which was characterized by higher cholesterol and mineral levels.

Abstract
Contents of copper and zinc in feed, manure, meat of livestock and poultry, and soil applied with manure in Liaoning, China were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The average contents of copper in chicken and pork were exceed the maximum limit values provides by Chinese standard GB15199-94. The application of pig and chicken manure has led to a certainty extend pollution of copper and zinc in soil, which becomes severity in the release of heavy metals in plantation.

Abstract
Increasing consumer knowledge of the link between diet and health has raised the awareness and demand for functional food ingredients. Meat and its derivatives may be considered functional foods to the extent that they contain numerous compounds thought to be functional. This review will attempt to outline the excellent nutritional and dietetic properties of rabbit meat and offer an overview of the studies performed on the strategies adopted to improve the functional value of rabbit meat. Dietary manipulation has been seen to be very effective in increasing the levels of essential FA, EPA, DHA, CLA, branched chain FA, vitamin E, and selenium in rabbit meat. Dietary fortification with vitamin E or natural products such as oregano essential oil, chia seed oil, and Spirulina platensis microalga seem promising in improving the oxidative stability of rabbit meat while also adding functional ingredients.

Abstract
The aim of our study was to determine the effect of single nickel administration as well as co–administration with zinc on meat quality parameters. In the experiment 45 [25 female (5 per group) and 20 male (4 per group)] rabbits of broiler line Californian were involved. Animals were divided to five groups: K (n=9) – control; P1 (n=9) – received 17.5 g NiCl2.100 kg-1 feeding dose (FD); P2 (n=9) – received 35 g NiCl2.100 kg-1 FD; P3 (n = 9) – received 17.5 g NiCl2.100 kg-1FD and 30 g ZnCl2.100 kg-1 FD and finally groups P4 (n = 9) – received 35 g NiCl2.100 kg-1 FD and 30 g ZnCl2.100 kg-1 FD. Animals were fed ad libitum using KKV1 feeding mixture with or without nickel and zinc addition for 90 days. Meat quality was analyzed from a sample of musculus biceps femoris for the content of water in muscle, content of proteins, fat, energy, electric conductivity, pH, colour and content of bounded water. The value of pH was detected by injection analysis. The content of water, proteins and fat was analyzed using Infratech 1265 Meat Analyzer. Meat colour was detected by spectrophotometer (Specol 11) and the meat ability to bind water by pressure method. In meat quality any significant differences were found among all groups.

Abstract
New (31)P NMR internal reference standard - hexamethylphosphoroamide (HMPA) was applied for determination of added polyphosphates and their ionic forms in raw pork meat and meat products. Phosphate species were determined after extraction with a boric acid buffer (pH=9) and EDTA solution, using internal standard (HMPA) procedure. Hexamethylphosophoroamide was also used as the NMR reference standard. Linear correlations between phosphates and polyphosphate concentrations and (31)P NMR signal areas were found in the range 81-5236 mg P/dm(3), presenting 95-99% recovery and variation coefficient (CV) ≤ 5%. Studied HMPA procedure revealed shorter analysis time and the same recovery (>95%) and precision (CV=1.3-2.7%) in comparison to MDPA method. Results of phosphate determination by both (31)P NMR methods were tested against the molybdenumvanadate yellow spectrophotometric method (standard PN-ISO 13730, 1999) using standard reference material (certified phosphate solution).

Abstract
A produção intensiva de coelhos é uma economia rentável considerando-se sua alta prolificidade,seu fácil manejo e sua produção em pequenos espaços. No entanto esta produção também nãoestá livre de problemas relacionados à falta de bem-estar. Uma vez que esta carne apresentaboas características nutricionais e com valores já estabelecidos; a alteração no número de algunsde seus constituintes pode ser indicativa de que é oriunda de um animal que não foi criado emcondições de bem-estar. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a composição química da carnede coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia criados em diferentes densidades populacionais. Os animaisforam divididos nos seguintes tratamentos: A - 0,09 coelho m-2, B – 0,072 coelho m-2 e C – 0,06coelho m-2, correspondendo a 4, 5 e 6 coelhos por gaiola, respectivamente. Aos 89 dias os animaisforam abatidos para avaliação do rendimento de carcaça. Em seguida, as carcaças foramdesossadas, moídas e congeladas para determinação da composição química (umidade, gordura,proteína, cinzas e fósforo). Os resultados quanto ao ganho de peso dos animais foram: 1163g,1086g e 1087g, para os tratamentos A, B, C respectivamente. A análise da composição química,não foi alterada pelas diferentes densidades de criação.
