Abstract
Objective: To analyze the correlation between the vascular endothelial function (characterized by endothelin-1 and nitric oxide) and the renal hemodynamics in patients with hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) by color Doppler ultrasound. Method: Depending on the severity of the disease, 76 HDP patients were divided into three groups, namely, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) group ([Formula: see text]), mild preeclampsia (PE) group ([Formula: see text]), and severe PE group ([Formula: see text]). In the meantime, 28 healthy pregnant women were selected as controls. Color Doppler ultrasound was performed to determine the following parameters in the interlobar arteries of the kidney: Resistance index (RI), peak end-diastolic velocity (EDV), pulsatility index (PI), peak systolic velocity (PSV), and S/D ratio. The correlations of these parameters with the serum levels of ET-1 and NO were then analyzed. Result: (1) In the interlobar arteries of the kidney, RI, S/D, PI were positively significantly correlated to the serum level of ET-1 in HDP patients (All [Formula: see text]) and negatively to the serum level of NO (All [Formula: see text]). (2) RI, S/D, PI of the mild and severe PE groups were significantly higher than those of the control group (All [Formula: see text]). However, EDV of the mild and severe PE groups was significantly lower than that of the control group (All [Formula: see text]). (3) The serum level of ET-1 was significantly higher in the HDP patients than in the control group ([Formula: see text]). However, the serum level of NO was significantly lower in the former than in the latter ([Formula: see text]). As HDP became more severe, there was an elevation in the serum level of ET-1 and a decrease in NO. Conclusion: Indicators of renal hemodynamics measured by color Doppler ultrasound were correlated to the serum levels of ET-1 and NO characterizing the vascular endothelial function. They were sensitive indicators reflecting hemodynamic changes and renal impairment in HDP patients.

Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) presents a major obstetrical problem for mother and fetus which is characterized by the onset of hypertension and proteinuria in formerly normotensive women. Altered folate-mediated one-carbon metabolism is one of the factors for PE development either due to nutritional insufficiencies such as folate deficiency or polymorphisms in genes that code for the key enzymes of the cycle. Commonly, there are four genes in the cycle whose polymorphisms have been described in relation to PE. These factors could cause elevation of homocysteine; the toxic metabolite, which subsequently leads to the development of PE. Sufficient levels of folate have been considered important during pregnancy and may reduce the risk of development of PE. This review aims at discussing genetic polymorphisms and nutritional deficiencies as probable predisposing factors and suggests considering fetal genotypes, varied ethnicities, and interaction of various other factors involved to render better conclusiveness to the present studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Apolipoprotein E (apoE) plays a central role in the metabolism and homeostasis of lipids. ApoE gene encodes three major isoforms: ε2, ε3 a nd ε4 forming six phenotypes: E2E2, E2E3, E2E4, E3E3, E3E3 and E4E4. Disorders of the lipid metabolism and the homeostasis are frequently coexist in renal diseases. The association between gene polymorphisms of apoE and lipid metabolism were not consistent. This meta-analysis was performed to assess the association between gene polymorphisms of apoE and lipid metabolism in renal diseases. METHODS A pre-defined literatures search and selection of eligible relevant investigations were performed to extract and collect data from electronic databases. RESULTS Sixteen articles were enrolled for the analysis of association between apoE gene polymorphisms and lipid metabolism. Subjects with E3E4 had a higher total cholesterol (TC) than those with E3E3, and subjects with E2E3 had a lower TC than those with E3E3. Subjects with ε2, had a lower TC than those with ε3 or ε4, and subjects with ε4 had a higher TC than those with, ε3. Subjects with E2E2, E2E3 or E4E4 had a higher triglyceride (TG) than those with E3E3. Subjects with ε4 had a higher TG than those with ε3. Subjects with ε2, had a higher level of TG than those with non-ε2. Subjects with E3E4 had a slightly lower high-density lipoprotein (HDL) than those with E3E3. E3E4 appeared to be associated with lower levels of HDL. Subjects with E2E2, E2E3 had a notably lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) than those with E3E3. Subjects with ε2, had a lower LDL than those with ε3 or ε4 ApoE gene polymorphisms were not associated with very low-density lipoprotein, and lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)]. Subjects with E2E3 or E2E4 had higher apoE levels than those with E3E3, and subjects with E4E4 had lower apoE levels than those with E3E3. CONCLUSION ApoE gene polymorphisms are associated with the expression of TC, TG HDL, LDL, Lp(a) or apoE.

Abstract
Numerous researchers have investigated the associations among methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene (MTHFR) C677T polymorphism, homocysteine (Hcy) concentration, and hypertension. However, the results are controversial. Thus, a meta-analysis implementing Mendelian randomization approach was conducted to examine the hypothesis that elevated Hcy concentration plausibly contributes to increased risk of hypertension. Based on several inclusion and exclusion criteria, eligible studies were selected to explore the correlation between MTHFR C677T and hypertension risk, MTHFR C677T and Hcy concentration in hypertension, and Hcy concentration and hypertension, and they were evaluated by odds ratios (ORs), effect size (ES), and standard mean difference with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs), respectively. Moreover, Mendelian randomization was implemented to evaluate the relationship between Hcy and hypertension. Consequently, 14 378 cases and 25 795 controls were involved in this study and the results showed that MTHFR C677T led to an elevated risk of hypertension (for T vs C: OR = 1.27, 95% CI = 1.17-1.37; for TT vs CC: OR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.30-1.79). Additionally, in hypertensive subjects, the pooled Hcy concentration in individuals of TT genotype was 7.74 μmol/L (95% CI: 5.25-10.23) greater than that in individuals of CC genotype. Moreover, the pooled Hcy concentration in hypertensive was 0.69 μmol/L (95% CI: 0.50-0.87) greater than that in controls. The estimated causal OR associated with hypertension was 1.32 for 5 μmol/L Hcy increment. Via MTHFR C677T polymorphism, the findings in the present study demonstrated that there exists evidence on causal link between Hcy concentration and the risk of hypertension.

Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy disorder that increases maternal and fetal
morbidity and mortality worldwide. High plasma levels of homocysteine (Hcy) are
a risk factor for several cardiovascular diseases. Cystathionine β-synthase
(CBS) plays an important role in Hcy homeostasis catalyzing the irreversible
degradation of Hcy to cystathionine, protecting the endothelium from injury
caused by hypoxia. Several mutations and polymorphisms may alter the expression
of the CBS gene, resulting in variable levels of Hcy. The
purpose of this study was to investigate the association of CBS
gene polymorphisms with PE in Mexican women. A case–control study consisting of
129 pregnant women with PE (37 severe and 92 mild) and 173 women with
uncomplicated pregnancies was performed. Polymorphisms, such as G797A, C785T,
T833C, G919A, T959C, C1105T, and 844ins68 base pair, in the CBS
gene were genotyped. The polymorphism G797A was monomorphic in cases with the
presence of only G797A-G allele. Allele C785T-T and genotype C785T-C/T were
associated with susceptibility in severe and mild PE. Alleles G797A-G and
T959C-T were associated with susceptibility only in severe PE. Haplotype TGTWGTC
was of susceptibility for severe PE and of protection for mild PE. Haplotypes
CGTWGCC and CATWGTC seem to be protective for severe PE, but the latter is
related to susceptibility in mild PE. The results suggest that C785T, G797A, and
T959C mutations are contributing in different ways in severe and mild PE in our
population and could be count as another related factor for this disease.

Abstract
This study aimed to detect the interactions of several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and alcohol consumption on blood pressure levels. Genotypes of 10 SNPs in the ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA-1), acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT-1), low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), hepatic lipase gene (LIPC), endothelial lipase gene (LIPG), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), the E3 ubiquitin ligase myosin regulatory light chain-interacting protein (MYLIP), proprotein convertase subtilisin-like kexin type 9 (PCSK9), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD), and Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SCARB1) genes were determined in 616 nondrinkers and 608 drinkers. The genotypic frequencies of LDLR rs5925, LIPC rs2070895, MTHFR rs1801133, and MYLIP rs3757354 SNPs were significantly different between nondrinkers and drinkers. The levels of systolic blood pressure (ABCA-1 rs2066715 and rs2070895), diastolic blood pressure (rs2070895), and pulse pressure (PP) (rs2066715, ACAT-1 rs1044925, and rs1801133) in nondrinkers, and systolic blood pressure (rs1044925 and SCARB1 rs5888), diastolic blood pressure (rs1044925 and LIPG rs2000813), and PP (PCSK9 rs505151 and rs5888) in drinkers were different among the genotypes (P < 0.005-0.001). The interactions of several SNPs and alcohol consumption on systolic blood pressure (rs2066715, rs1044925, rs5925, rs2070895, rs1801133, rs3757354, PPARD rs2016520, and rs5888), diastolic blood pressure (rs2066715, rs1044925, rs5925, rs2000813, rs3757354, and rs2016520), and PP (rs1044925, rs2070895, rs1801133, rs3757354, rs505151, and rs5888) were observed (P < 0.005-0.001). The differences in blood pressure levels between the nondrinkers and drinkers might be partially attributed to the interactions of these SNPs and alcohol consumption.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES MTHFR C677T and A1298C have been associated with the risk of preeclampsia (PE), but with conflicting results. We performed this meta-analysis to derive a more precise estimation of the association between MTHFR polymorphisms and PE. STUDY DESIGN An electronic search of PubMed and Chinese Biomedicine database was conducted to select studies for meta-analysis. 54 case controlled studies containing MTHFR C677T and A1298C gene polymorphisms were chosen, and odds ratio (OR) with confidence interval (CI) was used to assess the strength of this association. RESULT These studies evaluated 7398 cases and 11230 controls for MTHFR C677T. The overall results suggested that MTHFR C677T was associated with the risk of PE. (T vs. C: OR = 1.157, 95% CI: 1.057-1.266, p = 0.002; TT + CT vs. CC: OR = 1.165, 95% CI : 1.049-1.293, P = 0.004; TT vs. CT + CC: OR = 1.371, 95% CI: 1.153-1.63, p < 0.001). We also evaluated 1103 cases and 988 controls for MTHFR A1298C but could not demonstrate an increased risk of PE for this polymorphism (p = 0.667). A symmetric funnel plot, the Egger's test (p = 0.819) suggested a lack of publication bias. CONCLUSION This meta-analysis supports the idea that MTHFR C677T genotype is associated with increased risk for PE, especially in the case of Asians and Caucasians.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE To compare the values of the atherogenic index of plasma between preeclamptic patients and healthy pregnant women. PATIENTS AND METHOD Seventy patients were selected. Twenty-three severe preeclamptic patients (group A), 12 mild preeclamptic patients (group B) and 35 healthy pregnant women with similar age and body mass index (group C). Blood samples for lipids and lipoproteins determination were taken and the atherogenic plasma index was calculated. RESULTS We did not find differences in group A and B with regard to maternal age, gestational age at the time of evaluation and body mass index compared with pregnant women in group C (P=ns). Plasma concentrations of triglycerides and low-density lipoproteins were significantly higher in patients of groups A and B compared with group C (P<.05). Normotensive patients presented higher concentrations of high-density lipoproteins than patients with severe and mild preeclampsia (P<.05). There were no differences between groups in plasma cholesterol concentrations (P=ns). Patients in groups A (1.14±0.44) and in group B (0.95±0.46) presented significantly higher values of the atherogenic index of plasma compared with pregnant women in group C (0.62±0.20; P<.05). CONCLUSION Patients with preeclampsia had higher values of the atherogenic index of plasma than healthy pregnant women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several epidemiological studies have investigated the associations of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and A1298C polymorphisms with hypertension (H) or hypertension in pregnancy (HIP). However, the results were controversial. We therefore performed a comprehensive meta-analysis to provide empirical evidences on the associations. METHODOLOGIES The English and Chinese databases were systematically searched to identify relevant studies. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to evaluate the strength of the associations. Meta-regression, subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, cumulative meta-analysis and assessment of publication bias were performed in our study. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS A total of 114 studies with 15411 cases and 21970 controls were included, 111 studies with 15094 cases and 21633 controls for the C677T polymorphism and 21 with 2533 cases and 2976 controls for the A1298C polymorphism. Overall, the C677T polymorphism was significantly associated with H and HIP (H & HIP: OR = 1.26, 95% CI = 1.17-1.34; H: OR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.20-1.53; HIP: OR = 1.21, 95% CI = 1.08-1.32). Stratified analysis by ethnicity revealed a significant association among East Asians and Caucasians, but not among Latinos, Black Africans, and Indians and Sri Lankans. In the stratified analyses according to source of controls, genotyping method, sample size and study quality, significant associations were observed in all the subgroups, with the exception of population based subgroup in H studies and large sample size and "others" genotyping method subgroups in HIP studies. For the A1298C polymorphism, no significant association was observed either in overall or subgroup analysis under all genetic models. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis suggests that the MTHFR C677T rather than A1298C polymorphism may be associated with H & HIP, especially among East Asians and Caucasians.

Abstract
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a critical folate-metabolising enzyme which requires riboflavin as its co-factor. A common polymorphism (677C→T) in the MTHFR gene results in reduced MTHFR activity in vivo which in turn leads to impaired folate metabolism and elevated homocysteine concentrations. Homozygosity for this polymorphism (TT genotype) is associated with an increased risk of a number of conditions including heart disease and stroke, but there is considerable variability in the extent of excess risk in various reports. The present review will explore the evidence which supports a role for this polymorphism as a risk factor for a number of adverse health outcomes, and the potential modulating roles for B-vitamins in alleviating disease risk. The evidence is convincing in the case which links this polymorphism with hypertension and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, particularly preeclampsia. Furthermore, elevated blood pressure was found to be highly responsive to riboflavin intervention specifically in individuals with the MTHFR 677TT genotype. Future intervention studies targeted at these genetically predisposed individuals are required to further investigate this novel gene-nutrient interaction. This polymorphism has also been associated with an increased risk of neural tube defects (NTD) and other adverse pregnancy outcomes; however, the evidence in this area has been inconsistent. Preliminary evidence has suggested that there may be a much greater need for women with the MTHFR 677TT genotype to adhere to the specific recommendation of commencing folic acid prior to conception for the prevention of NTD, but this requires further investigation.

Abstract
Apolipoprotein E (apoE), one of the major plasma lipoproteins, plays a major role in the transport and metabolism of lipids by acting as a ligand. apoE gene contains three potential alleles: ϵ2, ϵ3 and ϵ4, forming six genotypes: E2E2, E2E3, E2E4, E3E3, E3E3 and E4E4. Association between apoE gene polymorphism and triglyceride (TG) is still controversial. There was not any meta-analysis to explore the association of apoE gene polymorphism with triglyceride level, and this meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the association between apoE gene polymorphism and triglyceride in patients with renal diseases. A predefined literature search and selection of eligible relevant studies were performed to collect data from electronic databases. Twenty-four articles were identified for the analysis of association between apoE gene polymorphism and triglyceride level. Subjects with E2E3 or E3E4 had a higher TG than those with E3E3. Subjects with ϵ4 had a higher TG than those with ϵ3. Subjects with ϵ2 had a slightly higher TG than those with ϵ3, although there was no statistical difference. Interestingly, subjects with ϵ4 had a much higher TG than those with ϵ2. In conclusion, E2E3, E3E4 or ϵ4 was associated with higher level of TG. However, more studies should be performed in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene C677T polymorphism has been considered to be associated with preeclampsia (PE), but the results from previous studies were conflicting. The present study aimed at investigating the frequency of preeclampsia according to the distribution polymorphism using a meta-analysis on the published studies. METHODS The English and Chinese databases were searched to identify eligible studies published in English before August 2012. Data were extracted using standardized methods. The association was assessed by odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Begg's test was used to measure publication bias. RESULTS A total of 51 case-control studies containing 6,403 patients and 11,346 controls were involved in this meta-analysis. Significant associations were detected between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and risk of PE in the overall population for TT vs. CC (OR = 1.280, 95% CI: 1.074-1.525), recessive model (OR = 1.264, 95% CI: 1.067-1.303), and dominant genetic model (OR = 1.174, 95% CI: 1.057-1.303); in Caucasian population for dominant model (OR = 1.136, 95% CI: 1.022-1.263), and in East Asia population for TT vs. CC (OR = 2.199, 95% CI: 1.366-3.924) CT vs. CC (OR = 1.453, 95% CI: 1.001-2.109), recessive model (OR = 1.742, 95% CI: 1.202-2.525), and dominant model (OR = 1.783, 95% CI: 1.271-2.501). Conversely, no associations were detected in Latin America, South Asia, and Africa populations. CONCLUSIONS Results of the meta-analysis suggest that the MTHFR C677T polymorphism was associated with risk of PE in overall, Caucasian, and East Asia populations. Nevertheless, the results for Latino, East Asians, South Asians and Africans should be interpreted with caution due to the small sample size.

Abstract
Little is known about the interactions of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and overweight/obesity on blood pressure levels. The present study was undertaken to detect 10 lipid-related gene SNPs and their interactions with overweight/obesity on blood pressure levels. Genotyping of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA-1) V825I, acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT-1) rs1044925, low density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) AvaII hepatic lipase gene (LIPC) −250G > A, endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) 584C > T, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) 677C > T, the E3 ubiquitin ligase myosin regulatory light chain-interacting protein (MYLIP) rs3757354, proprotein convertase subtilisin-like kexin type 9 (PCSK9) E670G, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD) +294T > C, and Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SCARB1) rs5888 was performed in 978 normal weight and 751 overweight/obese subjects. The interactions were detected by factorial regression analysis. The genotypes of ACAT-1 AC, LIPC GA and AA, and SCARB1 TT; LDL-R A-A- and LIPC GA; and SCARB1 TT were interacted with overweight/obesity to increase systolic, diastolic blood pressure (SBP, DBP) and pulse pressure (PP) levels; respectively. The genotypes of ACAT-1 CC; ACAT-1 AA and CC were interacted with overweight/obesity to decrease SBP, PP levels (p < 0.01–0.001); respectively. The differences in blood pressure levels between normal weight and overweight/obese subjects might partly result from different interactions of several SNPs and overweight/obesity.

BACKGROUND Sex differences in hypertension are not well known. The present study was undertaken to detect the association of nine lipid-related gene polymorphisms and blood pressure variation beween men and women in the Bai Ku Yao population. METHODS Genotyping of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA-1) V825I, acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT-1) rs1044925, low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) AvaII, hepatic lipase gene (LIPC) -250G>A, endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) 584C>T, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) 677C>T, proprotein convertase subtilisin-like kexin type 9 (PCSK9) E670G, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD) +294T>C, and Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SCARB1) rs5888 was performed in 682 normotensives and 670 hypertensives. RESULTS The genotypic frequencies of LDL-R and SCARB1 in normotensives and ABCA-1, ACAT-1, LDL-R, LIPC, and MTHFR in hypertensives were different between males and females (P < 0.05-0.001). The genotypic frequencies of ABCA-1, ACAT-1, LDL-R, LIPC, MTHFR, PPARD, and SCARB1 in males and ABCA-1, LDL-R, LIPC, LIPG, and MTHFR in females were different between normotensives and hypertensives (P < 0.05-0.001). Systolic blood pressure (SBP) levels in male hypertensives were different among the LIPC, LIPG, PCSK9, and SCARB1 genotypes (P < 0.05-0.01); and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) levels were different among the ABCA-1, LDL-R, LIPC, LIPG, MTHFR, PCSK9, and PPARD genotypes (P < 0.05-0.001). SBP levels in female hypertensives were different among the LIPC, MTHFR, PCSK9, and PPARD genotypes (P < 0.05-0.01); and DBP levels were different among ABCA-1, ACAT-1, MTHFR, PCSK9, PPARD, and SCARB1 genotypes (P <0.05-0.001). The correlations between these polymorphisms and blood pressure levels were also observed. CONCLUSIONS Sex differences in blood pressure levels in this population may partly attribute to the differences in some lipid-related gene polymorphisms.

Abstract
Apolipoprotein E (apoE) is a major protein in the lipoprotein transport system that plays a well established role in lipids metabolism. apoE gene contains three potential alleles: ε2, ε3 and ε4, forming six genotypes: ε2ε2, ε2ε3, ε2ε4, ε3ε3, ε3ε3 and ε4ε4. The disorder of lipids metabolism is an important feature for nephrotic syndrome (NS). There were some investigations reporting that apoE and its gene polymorphism was associated with NS susceptibility. However, the mechanism was unclear and the association was still controversial. This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the association between apoE and NS risk in experimental and human studies. A predefined literature search and selection of eligible relevant studies were performed to collect the data from electronic databases, and eligible investigations were synthesized using meta-analysis method. In experimental models, twelve comparisons were included and a definitely positive association was observed between apoE protein expression and NS susceptibility (WMD = 1.88, P < 0.00001). However, in human, there was only two studies included for meta-analysis and a positive association between apoE protein expression and NS susceptibility wasn't found (OR = 108.10, P = 0.32). Interestingly, ε3ε3, ε3ε4, ε3 and ε4 were associated with NS susceptibility (ε3ε3: OR = 0.56, P = 0.002; ε3ε4: OR = 1.91, P = 0.02; ε3: OR = 0.61, P = 0.001; ε4: OR = 1.85, P = 0.009). In conclusion, the apoE gene expression was associated with the NS susceptibility in experimental studies, and the apoE ε3ε3, ε3ε4, ε3 and ε4 were associated with the onset of NS in human studies. This study supported that the disorder of apoE was one of the possible causes for NS risk. However, more studies should be performed to investigate this relationship in the future.

The interactions of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and cigarette smoking on blood pressure levels are limited. The present study was undertaken to detect nine lipid-related SNPs and their interactions with cigarette smoking on blood pressure levels. Genotyping of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA-1) V825I, acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT-1) rs1044925, low density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) AvaⅡ, hepatic lipase gene (LIPC) -250G>A, endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) 584C>T, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) 677C>T, proprotein convertase subtilisin-like kexin type 9 (PCSK9) E670G, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARD) +294T>C, and Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SCARB1) rs5888 was performed in 935 nonsmokers and 845 smokers. The interactions were detected by factorial regression analysis. The frequencies of genotypes (ACAT-1 and LIPG), alleles (ABCA-1), and both genotypes and alleles (LDL-R, LIPC, PPARD and SCARB1) were different between nonsmokers and smokers (P < 0.05-0.001). The levels of pulse pressure (PP, ABCA-1), and systolic, diastolic blood pressure (SBP, DBP) and PP (LIPC) in nonsmokers were different among the genotypes (P < 0.01-0.001). The levels of SBP (ABCA-1, ACAT-1, LIPG and PCSK9), DBP (ACAT-1, LDL-R, LIPC, PCSK9 and PPARD), and PP (LIPC, LIPG, MTHFR and PCSK9) in smokers were different among the genotypes (P < 0.01-0.001). The SNPs of ABCA-1, ACAT-1 and PCSK9; ACAT-1, LDL-R, MTHFR and PCSK9; and ABCA-1, LIPC, PCSK9 and PPARD were shown interactions with cigarette smoking to influence SBP, DBP and PP levels (P < 0.05-0.001); respectively. The differences in blood pressure levels between the nonsmokers and smokers might partly result from different interactions of several SNPs and cigarette smoking.
