Abstract
A series of non-heme μ-oxo-bridged dinuclear iron(iii) complexes of the type [Fe2(μ-O)(L1–L6)2Cl2]Cl21–6 have been isolated and their catalytic activity towards oxidative transformation of alkanes into alcohols has been studied using m-choloroperbenzoic acid (m-CPBA) as an oxidant. All the complexes were characterized by CHN, electrochemical, and UV-visible spectroscopic techniques. The molecular structures of 2 and 5 have been determined successfully by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and both possesses octahedral coordination geometry and each iron atom is coordinated by four nitrogen atoms of the 4N ligand and a bridging oxygen. The sixth position of each octahedron is coordinated by a chloride ion. The (μ-oxo)diiron(iii) core is linear in 2 (Fe–O–Fe, 180.0°), whereas it is non-linear (Fe–O–Fe, 161°) in 5. All the diiron(iii) complexes show quasi-reversible one electron transfer in the cyclic voltammagram and catalyze the hydroxylation of alkanes like cyclohexane, adamantane with m-CPBA as an oxidant. In acetonitrile solution, adding excess m-CPBA to the diiron(iii) complex 2 without chloride ions leads to intramolecular hydroxylation reaction of the oxidant. Interestingly, 2 catalyzes alkane hydroxylation in the presence of chloride ions, but intramolecular hydroxylation in the absence of chloride ions. The observed selectivity for cyclohexane (A/K, 5–7) and adamantane (3°/2°, 9–18) suggests the involvement of high-valent iron–oxo species rather than freely diffusing radicals in the catalytic reaction. Moreover, 4 oxidizes (A/K, 7) cyclohexane very efficiently up to 513 TON while 5 oxidizes adamantane with good selectivity (3°/2°, 18) using m-CPBA as an oxidant. The electronic effects of ligand donors dictate the efficiency and selectivity of catalytic hydroxylation of alkanes. The ligand stereoelectronic effect of diiron(iii) complexes determines the efficiency and selectivity of catalytic alkane hydroxylation with m-CPBA as an oxidant.![]()

Abstract
A set each of new bivalent and trivalent ruthenium complexes, [Ru(III)(HL)Cl2(EPh3)2] and [Ru(II)(L)(CO)(EPh3)2] (E = P (complexes and ) or As (complexes and )) were synthesised from the reactions of [Ru(III)Cl3(EPh3)3] with 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde benzoic acid hydrazone (H2L) in methanol-chloroform and characterized by elemental analysis, spectral data and XRD study. A suitable mechanism to account for the formation of bivalent ruthenium carbonyl complexes from the corresponding trivalent precursors is provided by considering the role of added base in the reaction. Interaction of complexes with CT-DNA/bovine serum albumin was analysed with absorption and emission spectral titration studies. In vitro cytotoxic potential of the above ruthenium hydrazone complexes assayed against the A549 cell line revealed a significant growth inhibition. The test complexes added in IC50 concentration into the cell culture medium enhanced the release of lactate dehydrogenase, NO and reactive oxygen species in comparison with the control. Cell death induced by the complexes was studied using a propidium iodide staining assay and showed noticeable changes in the cell morphology which resembled apoptosis.

Abstract
Schiff base disulfide ligands (H2L(1-6)) were synthesized from the condensation of cystamine with salicylaldehyde(H2L(1)), 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde(H2L(2)), o-vanillin(H2L(3)), 2-hydroxyacetophenone(H2L(4)), 3-methyl-2-hydroxyacetophenone(H2L(5)), and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde(H2L(6)). H2L(1-6) reacts with the ruthenium precursor complex [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3] in benzene giving rise to six new ruthenium(II) complexes of general formula [Ru(CO)L(1-6)]. Characterization of the new complexes was carried out by using elemental and spectral (IR, UV-Vis, NMR ((1)H and (13)C) and Mass) techniques. An octahedral geometry was assigned for all the complexes based on the spectral data obtained. The catalytic efficiency of the new complexes in aldehyde to amide conversion in the presence of NaHCO3, N-alkylation of aniline in the presence of t-BuOK, and transfer hydrogenation of ketones in the presence of iPrOH/KOH reactions were studied. Furthermore, the effect of solvents and catalyst/substrate ratio on the catalytic aldehyde to amide conversion were also discussed.

Abstract
In this study, new Fe(II) Schiff base amino acid chelates derived from the condensation of o-hydroxynaphthaldehyde with L-alanine, L-phenylalanine, L-aspartic acid, L-histidine and L-arginine were synthesized and characterized via elemental, thermogravimetric analysis, molar conductance, IR, electronic, mass spectra and magnetic moment measurements. The stoichiometry and the stability constants of the complexes were determined spectrophotometrically. Correlation of all spectroscopic data suggested that Schiff bases ligands exhibited tridentate with ONO sites coordinating to the metal ions via protonated phenolic-OH, azomethine-N and carboxylate-O with the general formulae [Fe(HL)2]·nH2O. But in case of L-histidine, the ligand acts as tetradentate via deprotonated phenolic-OH, azomethine-N, carboxylate-O and N-imidazole ring ([FeL(H2O)2]·2H2O), where HL=mono anion and L=dianion of the ligand. The structure of the prepared complexes is suggested to be octahedral. The prepared complexes were tested for their teratogenicity on chick embryos and found to be safe until a concentration of 100 μg/egg with full embryos formation. Moreover, the interaction between CT-DNA and the investigated complexes were followed by spectrophotometric and viscosity measurements. It was found that, the prepared complexes bind to DNA via classical intercalative mode and showed a different DNA activity with the sequence: nhi>nari>nali>nasi>nphali. Furthermore, the free ligands and their complexes are screened for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity against three types of bacteria, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus and three types of anti fungal cultures, Penicillium purpurogenium, Aspergillus flavus and Trichotheium rosium in order to assess their antimicrobial potential. The results show that the metal complexes are more reactive with respect to their corresponding Schiff base amino acid ligands.

Abstract
New ruthenium(II) carbonyl complexes bearing pyridine carboxamide and triphenylphosphine/triphenylarsine/pyridine have been prepared by direct reaction of ruthenium(II) precursors with some pyridine carboxamide ligands, N,N-bis(2-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,2-ethane (H(2)L(1)), N,N-bis(2-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,2-benzene (H(2)L(2)) and N,N-bis(2-pyridinecarboxamide)-trans-1,2-cyclohexane (H(2)L(3)). The organic ligands offering two N(amide) and two N(pyridine) donor sites to the metal centre. They have been characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, UV-Visible, NMR ((1)H, (13)C and (31)P) and ESI-MS techniques. Based on the above data, an octahedral structure has been assigned for all the complexes. The catalytic efficiency of the complexes in transfer hydrogenation of ketones in the presence of iPrOH/KOH and N-alkylation of amine in the presence of tBuOK was examined. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of the ligands and its ruthenium(II) complexes were determined by DPPH radical, nitric oxide radical, hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging methods, which indicates that the ruthenium(II) complexes exhibit more effective antioxidant activity than the ligands alone.

Abstract
Liquid phase catalytic selective hydroxylation of phenol to catechol and hydroquinone was carried out in the presence of metalloporphyrins using hydrogen peroxide as oxidant and water as solvent. Five kinds of metal tetra(p-chlorophenyl)porphrin ( T (p- Cl ) PPMCl , M = Fe , Co , Mn , Cu , Zn ) were studied. It was found that T (p- Cl ) PPFeCl had high catalytic activity and diphenol selectivity for the hydroxylation of phenol to catechol and hydroquinone. The influence of various reaction parameters, namely, reaction temperature, solvent, ratio of substrate and oxidant, substrate concentration, the amount of catalyst, reaction time and pH value were investigated systematically. When water was used as solvent (10 mL), the optimum conditions were following: pH = 7, the concentration of phenol was 0.3 g/mL, the molar ratio of phenol and H 2 O 2 was 1/2, the molar ratio of catalyst and phenol was 7/100000, the reaction temperature was 65°C and the reaction time was 1.5 h. Under above optimum conditions, the phenol conversion was up to 55.1%, and the selectivity of diphenol was almost up to 99.9%, the molar turnover numbers of the catalyst was about 7500. A possible mechanism was also proposed.

Abstract
Ruthenium(II) hydrazone Schiff base complexes of the type [RuCl(CO)(B)(L)] (were B=PPh(3), AsPh(3) or Py; L=hydrazone Schiff base ligands) were synthesized from the reactions of hydrazone Schiff base ligand (obtained from isonicotinoylhydrazide and different hydroxy aldehydes) with [RuHCl(CO)(EPh(3))(2)(B)] (where E=P or As; B=PPh(3), AsPh(3) or Py) in 1:1 molar ratio. All the new complexes have been characterized by analytical and spectral (FT-IR, electronic, (1)H, (13)C and (31)P NMR) data. They have been tentatively assigned an octahedral structure. The synthesized complexes have exhibited catalytic activity for oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde and cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone in the presence of N-methyl morpholine N-oxide (NMO) as co-oxidant. They were also found to catalyze the transfer hydrogenation of aliphatic and aromatic ketones to alcohols in KOH/Isopropanol.

Characterization of platinum-iron catalysts supported on MCM-41 synthesized with rice husk silica and their performance for phenol hydroxylation. Abstract
Mesoporous material RH-MCM-41 was synthesized with rice husk silica by a hydrothermal method. It was used as a support for bimetallic platinum-iron catalysts Pt-Fe/RH-MCM-41 for phenol hydroxylation. The catalysts were prepared by co-impregnation with Pt and Fe at amounts of 0.5 and 5.0 wt.%, respectively. The RH-MCM-41 structure in the catalysts was studied with x-ray diffraction, and their surface areas were determined by nitrogen adsorption. The oxidation number of Fe supported on RH-MCM-41 was + 3, as determined by x-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) analysis. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of all the catalysts displayed well-ordered structures, and metal nanoparticles were observed in some catalysts. All the catalysts were active for phenol hydroxylation using H2O2 as the oxidant at phenol : H2O2 mole ratios of 2 : 1, 2 : 2, 2 : 3 and 2 : 4. The first three ratios produced only catechol and hydroquinone, whereas the 2 : 4 ratio also produced benzoquinone. The 2 : 3 ratio gave the highest phenol conversion of 47% at 70 °C. The catalyst prepared by co-impregnation with Pt and Fe was more active than that prepared using a physical mixture of Pt/RH-MCM-41 and Fe/RH-MCM-41.

Abstract
The kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with some Fe(II) Schiff base complexes were investigated spectrophotometrically in aqueous solution at pH 8 and 35 degrees C under pseudo-first-order conditions. The used ligands were derived from salicylaldehyde or o-hydroxynaphthaldehyde and some amino acids (l-leucine, l-iso-leucine, l-serine, l-methionine and dl-tryptophan). It was found that the formation of the purple interaperoxo complex appears only above pH 7.5. The reaction consists of two steps. The first step involves reversible formation of the intraperoxo intermediate which renders irreversible at pH 8. The second step consists of inner-sphere electron transfer. The suggested scheme illustrated first-order kinetics at low [H(2)O(2)] and zero-order at high [H(2)O(2)]. Moreover, the activation parameters of the reaction were evaluated.

Abstract
The reaction of the chelating ligands (obtained by the condensation of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with various primary amines) with [RuHCl(CO)(EPh(3))(2)(B)] (where E=P; B=PPh(3), py or pip: E=As; B=AsPh(3)) in benzene afforded new stable ruthenium(II) carbonyl complexes of the general formula [Ru(Cl)(CO)(EPh(3))(B)(L)] (L=anion of bidentate Schiff bases). The structure of the new complexes was investigated using elemental analyses, spectral (FT-IR, UV-vis and (1)H NMR) and electrochemical studies and is found to be octahedral. All the metal complexes exhibit characteristic MLCT absorption and luminescence bands in the visible region. The luminescence efficiency of the ruthenium(II) complexes was explained based on the ligand environment around the metal ion. These complexes catalyze oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols into their corresponding carbonyl compounds in the presence of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMO) as the source of oxygen. The formation of high valent Ru(IV)=O species as a catalytic intermediate is proposed for the catalytic process.
