Abstract
Orthopalladated derivatives from substituted phenylglycines [Pd(μ-Cl)(C6H3R1C(R2)(R3)N(R4)2]2 (1) react with halogenating reagents (PhICl2, Br2, I2) (2) to give the corresponding o-halogenated amino acids C6H3(X)R1C(R2)(R3)N(R4)2 (3). The reaction is general and tolerates a variety of functional groups (R1 to R4) at the aryl ring, the Cα, and the N atom. On the other hand, the reaction of [Pd(μ-Cl)(C6H3R1C(R2)(R3)N(R4)2]2 (1) with PhI(OAc)2 in the presence of a variety of alcohols R5OH (4) gives the o-alkoxylated phenylglycines C6H3(OR5)R1C(R2)(R3)N(R4)2 (5), also as a general process. A partial loss of the enantiomeric excess is observed when the starting phenylglycine is enantiomerically pure, this arising from the formation of bridging azavinylidene (6) and imine intermediate species (7), which were characterized by X-ray diffraction methods.

Abstract
An external oxidant free Ru(II)-catalyzed C-H functionalization/annulation of primary benzylamines with sulfoxonium ylides has been developed for the synthesis of isoquinolines. The reaction utilizes free amine as a directing group, which is generally considered to be a poor directing group. This work presents the first example of Ru-catalyzed C-H functionalization of benzylamines under redox-neutral conditions. The detection of the amine-directed ruthenacyclic intermediate using high-resolution mass spectrometry corroborated the involvement of free amine as a directing group.

Abstract
1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) is a polar, strongly hydrogen bond-donating solvent that has found numerous uses in organic synthesis due to its ability to stabilize ionic species, transfer protons, and engage in a range of other intermolecular interactions. The use of this solvent has exponentially increased in the past decade and has become a solvent of choice in some areas, such as C-H functionalization chemistry. In this review, following a brief history of HFIP in organic synthesis and an overview of its physical properties, literature examples of organic reactions using HFIP as a solvent or an additive are presented, emphasizing the effect of solvent of each reaction.

Abstract
We have performed a series of theoretical calculations for palladium-catalyzed β-X elimination reactions. The DFT calculation combined with energy decomposition analysis shows the determining factors of reactivity. Such as, the elemental composition, the structure of different functional groups and the stronger steric repulsions contribution. The energy decomposition analysis (EDA) results show the quantitative contribution of nucleophile groups in intramolecular interactions.![]()

Abstract
An efficient rhodium(iii)-catalyzed C-H activation followed by intermolecular annulation between enamides and sulfoxonium ylides has been developed. The transformation proceeds smoothly with a broad range of substrates, affording a series of isoquinoline derivatives in moderate to good yields under additive-free conditions.

Abstract
The RhIII -catalyzed, consecutive double C-H oxidative coupling of free 1-naphthylamine and α,β-unsaturated esters through C-H/C-H and C-H/N-H bonds is reported. The one step reaction leads to the formation of biologically important alkylidene-1,2-dihydrobenzo[cd]indoles scaffolds. This efficient process is much more synthetically convenient and useful than others because the starting materials, such as 1-naphthylamine derivatives are readily available and the free amine serves as a directing group.

Abstract
Direct transformation of carbon-hydrogen bond (C-H) has emerged to be a trend for construction of molecules from building blocks with no or less prefunctionalization, leading high atom and step economy. Directing group (DG) strategy is widely used to achieve higher reactivity and selectivity, but additional steps are usually needed for installation and/or cleavage of DGs, limiting step economy of the overall transformation. To meet this challenge, we proposed a concept of automatic DG (DGauto ), which is auto-installed and/or auto-cleavable. Multifunctional oxime and hydrazone DGauto were designed for C-H activation and alkyne annulation to furnish diverse nitrogen-containing heterocycles. Imidazole was employed as an intrinsic DG (DGin ) to synthesize ring-fused and π-extended functional molecules. The alkyne group in the substrates can also be served as DGin for ortho-C-H activation to afford carbocycles. In this account, we intend to give a review of our progress in this area and brief introduction of other related advances on C-H functionalization using DGauto or DGin strategies.
