Abstract
A DFT study of homonuclear X2 ([Formula: see text], As, Se, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn) is presented using PBEO exchange (xc) functional which is a mixing of Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE) and Hartree Fock (HF) exchange energy. However, we used cc-pVXZ and aug-cc-pVXZ basis sets where X is maximum angular momentum number in basis set. Convergence pattern of binding energy with respect to basis set was observed. Two-point extrapolations to complete basis set (CBS) limit were applied to speed up convergence and decrease the basis set incompleteness error (BSIE). Counterpoise correction (CP) method was utilized to alleviate basis set superposition errors (BSSE). Both CP-corrected and uncorrected binding energies were obtained and compared with the experimental and theoretical binding energy values in literature.

Abstract
Binding energies ([Formula: see text], geometric and electronic structures for [[Formula: see text]](O/[[Formula: see text]]) additions of O atom on ([Formula: see text])([Formula: see text] − 10) single-walled carbon nanotubes with di-vacancies are studied using a GGA-PBE method, and defect curvature ([Formula: see text]) is used to predict reactivities of different C—C bonds at defect area. Calculated results show that the C—C bonds can be divided into two types: broken C—C bonds corresponding to adducts with a C—O—C configuration structure and unbroken C—C bonds corresponding to adducts with a closed-3MR structure. [Formula: see text] of O/[[Formula: see text]] additions for the adduct with the C—O—C configuration structure monotonously increases with the increase of [Formula: see text] in any ([Formula: see text],0)([Formula: see text]) tube and decreases with the increase of [Formula: see text] in ([Formula: see text],0)([Formula: see text], 7, 10) tubes. Besides the fact that [Formula: see text] value is mainly determined by the defect curvature, it is also affected by band gaps, bonding characteristic of C—C bonds in the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and geometric structures. The study would provide a theoretical basis for surface modifications of carbon nanotubes with atomic vacancy defects.

Abstract
Magnetic hydroxyapatite (HAp) is being widely investigated for various applications in medical engineering and nanocomposite for transformation reaction. The present work describes an efficient procedure for the synthesis of phenacyl derivatives employing a novel, green and magnetically retrievable nanocomposite via the grafting of β-cyclodextrin moieties on the magnetic hydroxyapatite surface, γ-Fe2O3@HAp-CD. The structure and composition of the nanocomposite was performed by different methods and analyzed by Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). Our results indicate that conjugation with β-CD improves the catalytic activity in the reaction.
