Abstract
The green synthesis of transition metal oxide nanocomposites using plant extracts is a new and effective method that avoids the involvement of hazardous chemicals. Nondegradable organic pollutants and antibiotic drug resistance have become serious public health issues worldwide. Hence, the main objective of this study is to synthesize Co3O4-ZnO nanocomposites using Calpurnia aurea leaf extract and evaluate its photocatalytic and antibacterial activities. The green synthesized particles were characterized using UV-vis spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction techniques, and scanning electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive X-ray studies. The synthesized particles were found to be crystalline in nature with average crystallite sizes of 23.82, 14.79, 15.99, 16.46, and 21.73 nm. Scanning electron microscopy shows the spherical morphology of Co3O4-ZnO NCs, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis confirms the formation of highly pure ZnO NPs and Co3O4-ZnO NCs. The photocatalytic activity was performed under natural sunlight using malachite green as an organic dye pollutant. The green synthesized ZnO NPs, Co3O4 NPs, 1:4, 1:3, and 1:2 Co3O4-ZnO NCs showed high degradation efficiency after 60 min of irradiation. The synthetic material showed good potential against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with the highest growth inhibition recorded by 1:2 Co3O4-ZnO NCs. The kinetics study of the photocatalytic degradation was confirmed as pseudo first order, and the possible mechanisms for both photocatalytic and antibacterial activities were clearly determined.

Abstract
Pollen is a promising material for water treatment owing to its renewable nature, abundant sources, and vast reserves. The natural polymer sporopollenin, found within pollen exine, possesses a distinctive layered porous structure, mechanical strength, and stable chemical properties, which can be utilized to prepare sporopollenin exine capsules (SECs). Leveraging these attributes, pollen or SECs can be used to develop water pollution remediation materials. In this review, the structure of pollen is first introduced, followed by the categorization of various methods for extracting SECs. Then, the functional expansion of pollen adsorbents, with an emphasis on their recyclability, reusability, and visual sensing capabilities, as opposed to mere functional group modification, is discussed. Furthermore, the progress made in utilizing pollen as a biological template for synthesizing catalysts is summarized. Intriguingly, pollen can also be engineered into self-propelled micromotors, enhancing its potential application in adsorption and catalysis. Finally, the challenges associated with the application of pollen in water pollution treatment are discussed. These challenges include the selection of environmentally friendly, non-toxic reagents in synthesizing pollen water remediation products and the large-scale application after synthesis. Moreover, the multifunctional synthesis and application of different water remediation products are prospected.

Abstract
Tricobalt tetroxide (Co3O4) has been developed as a promising photocatalyst material for various applications. Several reports have been published on the self-modification of Co3O4 to achieve optimal photocatalytic performance. The pristine Co3O4 alone is inadequate for photocatalysis due to the rapid recombination process of photogenerated (PG) charge carriers. The modification of Co3O4 can be extended through the introduction of doping elements, incorporation of supporting materials, surface functionalization, metal loading, and combination with other photocatalysts. The addition of doping elements and support materials may enhance the photocatalysis process, although these modifications have a slight effect on decreasing the recombination process of PG charge carriers. On the other hand, combining Co3O4 with other semiconductors results in a different PG charge carrier mechanism, leading to a decrease in the recombination process and an increase in photocatalytic activity. Therefore, this work discusses recent modifications of Co3O4 and their effects on its photocatalytic performance. Additionally, the modification effects, such as enhanced surface area, generation of oxygen vacancies, tuning the band gap, and formation of heterojunctions, are reviewed to demonstrate the feasibility of separating PG charge carriers. Finally, the formation and mechanism of these modification effects are also reviewed based on theoretical and experimental approaches to validate their formation and the transfer process of charge carriers.

Abstract
In recent years, organic pollutants have become a global problem due to their negative impact on human health and the environment. Photocatalysis is one of the most promising methods for the removal of organic pollutants from wastewater, and oxide semiconductor materials have proven to be among the best in this regard. This paper presents the evolution of the development of metal oxide nanostructures (MONs) as photocatalysts for ciprofloxacin degradation. It begins with an overview of the role of these materials in photocatalysis; then, it discusses methods of obtaining them. Then, a detailed review of the most important oxide semiconductors (ZnO, TiO2, CuO, etc.) and alternatives for improving their photocatalytic performance is provided. Finally, a study of the degradation of ciprofloxacin in the presence of oxide semiconductor materials and the main factors affecting photocatalytic degradation is carried out. It is well known that antibiotics (in this case, ciprofloxacin) are toxic and non-biodegradable, which can pose a threat to the environment and human health. Antibiotic residues have several negative impacts, including antibiotic resistance and disruption of photosynthetic processes.

Abstract
Frequent occurrence of harmful algal blooms has already threatened aquatic life and human health. In the present study, floating BiOCl0.6I0.4/ZnO photocatalyst was synthesized in situ by water bath method, and and applied in inactivation of Microcystis aeruginosa under visible light. The composition, morphology, chemical states, optical properties of the photocatalyst were also characterized. The results showed that BiOCl0.6I0.4 exhibited laminated nanosheet structure with regular shape, and the light response range of the composite BZ/EP-3 (BiOCl0.6I0.4/ZnO/EP-3) was tuned from 582 to 638 nm. The results of photocatalytic experiments indicated that BZ/EP-3 composite had stronger photocatalytic activity than a single BiOCl0.6I0.4 and ZnO, and the removal rate of chlorophyll a was 89.28% after 6 hr of photocatalytic reaction. The photosynthetic system was destroyed and cell membrane of algae ruptured under photocatalysis, resulting in the decrease of phycobiliprotein components and the release of a large number of ions (K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+). Furthermore, active species trapping experiment determined that holes (h+) and superoxide radicals (·O2-) were the main active substance for the inactivation of algae, and the p-n mechanism of photocatalyst was proposed. Overall, BZ/EP-3 showed excellent algal removal ability under visible light, providing fundamental theories for practical algae pollution control.

Abstract
The supper dissemination of antibiotic waste in water resources has exponentially progressed the vital water and soil pollution that affect human health and the environment. Consequently, there have been several types of research anticipated for the green mineralization of such pollutants. Herein, we intended a surfactant-aided sol-gel formation of lanthanum-doped sodium tantalate (LNTO) nanocrystals. The synthesized 13 nm averaged-size perovskite LNTO nanocrystals were responsive to visible-light irradiation by incorporation of 4.4-5.2 nm oxide nanoparticles, namely Bi2O3, CdO, Fe2O3, and CuO at 4.0 wt% through coprecipitation. The formed nanomaterials unveiled mesostructured surface textures with specific surface areas of 199-229 m2 g-1. The obtained nanoceramics were employed for the mineralization of 10 ppm of ciprofloxacin antibiotic (CPF) as an emerging antibiotic waste in water under visible light irradiation. The CuO-incorporated LNTO exhibited the best photocatalytic oxidation of CPF after 120 min compared with other oxides with an excellent photoreaction rate of 0.0343 min-1 which is 49 times higher than the pure LNTO. The 2.0 gL-1 CuO/LNTO-dose achieved the full photooxidation of CPF at an oxidation speed of 0.0738 min -1 within just 1.0 h of visible light irradiation and magnificent regeneration ability. This enhanced activity of CuO/LNTO is regarded as significant light absorption and a bandgap energy reduction to 2.12 eV. Besides that, the heterojunction between CuO and LNTO amended the photogenerated carrier mobility and separation as concluded from the photoluminescence and photocurrent exploration. This comparative work suggests the proper design of low bandgap oxide decoration of solution-based perovskite oxide photocatalysts for promoting the visible-light mineralization of antibiotics in water.

Abstract
The accumulation of Cr(VI) ions in water can cause serious influences on the environment and human health. This work reports a humble synthesis of ZnSe nanoparticles anchored to the sol-gel prepared TiO2for visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) ions. The 7.9 nm ZnSe nanoparticles were attached to TiO2surfaces at a content of 1.0-4.0 wt% as experiential by TEM investigation. The designed nanocomposite unveiled mesostructured surfaces exhibiting surface areas of 176-210 m2g-1. The impregnation of ZnSe amended the visible-light absorption of TiO2due to the bandgap decrease from 3.14 to 2.90 eV. The photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) applying the optimized portion of 3.0 wt% ZnSe/TiO2was achieved at 177μmol min-1. This photocatalytic activity is higher than the common Degussa P25 and pristine TiO2by 20 and 30 times, respectively. The improved performance is signified by the efficient interfacial separation of charge carriers by the introduction of ZnSe. This innovative ZnSe/TiO2has also shown photocatalytic stability for five consecutive runs.

Abstract
Currently, metal oxide photocatalysts is a green and facile tool for the elimination of emerging pollutants utilizing light illumination. Though, the wide bandgap energy (Eg), rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers, and photostability of these oxides represent critical issues before the actual application. Herein, we familiarise a sol-gel based synthesis of ZnO hexagonal nanoplatelets modified with CoFe2O4 (CFO) nanoparticles at minor loading (1.0-4.0 wt %) to yield CFO/ZnO nanoheterojunctions. The CFO/ZnO unveiled mesostructured surfaces at surface areas of 102-120 m2 g-1 and photoactive in the visible region with high. The CFO addition to ZnO reduced its Eg from 3.14 to 2.66 eV. The formed nanoheterojunctions were applied to remediate ciprofloxacin (CPF), as an antibiotic pollutant in wastewater. The 2.4 g L-1 3.0 wt % CFO-added ZnO exhibited a 100% removal of 10-ppm CPF within 45 min of visible-light irradiation and sustainable recycling ability for five consecutive runs at 97%. The sustainable performance of CFO/ZnO is ascribed to the suppression of photogenerated carriers and reduction of E by p-n nanoheterojunction formation. This study broadens the way for nanoheterojunction oxides for the destruction of pharmaceutical wastes under visible-light illumination.
