Abstract
A novel and efficient protocol for the microwave-assisted synthesis of diversely substituted 2,2'-bisbenzimidazol-5,6'-dicarboxylic acid (BIMCA) from the reaction of 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid with oxalic acid has been developed, which proceeds through sequential nucleophilic addition and electrophilic substitution in accordance with the Philips method. The synthetic utility of this strategy was demonstrated by the concise, one-pot synthesis of (BIMCA) and metal complexes. (BIMCA) with a [{Fe(salen)}2O] Schiff base ligand complex and new benzimidazole coordination compounds with double oxygen [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2] ligand complexes were obtained. The resulting [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2] ligand complex was then synthesized from Co(CH3COO)2.4H2O, Ni(CH3COO)2.4H2O and Cu(CH3COO)2.H2O heteronuclear complexes. The condensations proceed with good yield to give products that, in certain instances, are not readily attainable by conventional condensation techniques. The structures of the compounds were identified by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), elemental analysis and magnetic susceptibility. The mutagenic potential of the synthesized chemicals was evaluated by the Ames test towards mutant Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98 and TA100. It was recorded that these chemicals had no mutagenic action. Also, antimicrobial activities were screened by broth microdilution test. It was seen that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis was 0.195 mg/mL, followed by a MIC value of 0.390 mg/mL against Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2Co(II)] demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity against Proteus mirabilis and Staphylococcus aureus, with an MIC of 0.195 mg/mL, followed by an MIC of 0.390 mg/mL against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, K. pneumonia and Salmonella typhimurium. The antioxidant properties were examined using various chemical assays, and [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2O] and (BIMCA) exhibited greater 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging ability, when compared with other compounds. Enzyme inhibitory effects were tested against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), amylase, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and tyrosinase. [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2Cu(II)] displayed the best AChE (IC50 0.51 mg/mL), BChE (IC50 0.51 mg/mL) and tyrosinase (IC50 1.52 mg/mL) inhibitory effects. Furthermore, molecular docking calculations were performed to gain insights into the interaction between [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2] and AChE, and between [(BIMCA){Fe(salen)}2Cu(II)] and amylase. Both compounds showed the potential inhibition of the protein targets.

Abstract
A tripodal Schiff base ligand, 2,4,6-Tris(4-carboxybenzimino)-1,3,5-triazine (MT) and its trinuclear Dy(III), Er(III), and Gd(III) complexes were synthesized. These were characterized using UV-visible, IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopies, elemental analysis, and molar conductivity measurements. The spectral studies indicate that the ligand is hexadentate and coordinates to the Ln(III) ions through the oxygen atoms of the carboxylic group. The trinuclear complexes were characterized as being bridged by carboxylate anions to the Dy(III), Er(III), and Gd(III) salen centers and displaying a coordination number of six. Biological studies revealed that MT is more active against the test micro-organisms relative to the trinuclear complexes. Acute toxicity studies revealed that MT is safe and has a wide range of effective doses (ED50). In vivo antimalarial studies indicate that MT could serve as an effective antimalarial agent since it has parasitemia inhibition of 84.02% at 50 mg/kg and 65.81% at 25 mg/kg, close to the value (87.22%) of the standard drug—Artesunate. Molecular docking simulation studies on the compounds against SARS-CoV-2 (6Y84) and E. coli DNA gyrase (5MMN) revealed effective binding interactions through multiple bonding modes. The binding energy calculated for Er(III)MT-6Y84 and Er(III)MT-5MMN complexes showed active molecules with the ability to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 and E. coli DNA gyrase.

Abstract
New mixed Fe(III) and Zn(II) complexes with isonitrosoacetophenone (HINAP) and l-amino acids (such as l-histidine, l-phenylalanine and l-proline) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, UV-Vis, IR and ESR spectroscopy and thermal analyses. The values of molar conductance of the complexes in DMSO solution at 10-3 M concentration indicate their non-electrolyte nature. IR spectroscopy has revealed the coordination of deprotonated ligands to metal through nitrogen and oxygen atoms in an N2O2 arrangement. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed using the hybrid functional of Truhlar and Zhao (M06) with basis set of double zeta quality LANL2DZ to evaluate the cis and trans coordination modes and to ascertain dipole moment, HOMO-LUMO energy gap, chemical hardness, softness and electrophilicity. The magnetic moments and ESR measurements suggest that there is an admixture of S = 5/2 and S = 1/2 spins in Fe(III) complexes. UV-Visible spectra indicate a distorted octahedral geometry around the metal ions. Thermal analyses show the presence of hydrated and coordinated water. The antimicrobial activity was investigated against (G+ and G-) bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and fungi (Candida albicans). The iron and zinc complexes were found to be more active against Gram-positive than Gram negative bacteria. They also show considerable growth inhibition against the fungi tested. In vitro antitumor activity assayed against cancer cell lines of the HEP2 type (cancer cells of the larynx) exhibited significant toxicity of the ligands and their mixed complexes.
