Synthesis, characterization and catecholase-like activity of new Schiff base metal complexes derived from visnagin: Theoretical and experimental study

Advances in chromone-based copper(ii) Schiff base complexes: synthesis, characterization, and versatile applications in pharmacology and biomimetic catalysis

Chromones are well known as fundamental structural elements found in numerous natural compounds and medicinal substances. The Schiff bases of chromones have a much wider range of pharmacological applications such as antitumor, antioxidant, anti-HIV, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. A lot of research has been carried out on chromone-based copper(ii) Schiff-base complexes owing to their role in the organometallic domain and promise as potential bioactive cores. This review article is centered on copper(ii) Schiff-base complexes derived from chromones, highlighting their diverse range of pharmacological applications documented in the past decade, as well as the future research opportunities they offer.

Theoretical, in Vitro Antiproliferative, and in Silico Molecular Docking and Pharmacokinetics Studies of Heteroleptic Nickel(II) and Copper(II) Complexes of Thiosemicarbazone-Based Ligands and Pefloxacin

Twelve new heteroleptic nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of the type [M(L1-6 )(Pfx)2 ] (1-12), where L1-6 =2-benzylidenehydrazinecarbothioamide (L1 ), 2-benzylidene-N-methylhydrazinecarbothioamide (L2 ), 2-benzylidene-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (L3 ), 2-(4-methylbenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide (L4 ), 2-(4-methylbenzylidene)-N-methylhydrazinecarbothioamide (L5 ) and 2-(4-methylbenzylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (L6 ), Pfx=pefloxacin and M=Ni(II) or Cu(II) have been synthesised, and their structures were confirmed by different spectral techniques. The spectral data and density functional theory (DFT) calculations supported the bonding of pefloxacin drug molecule via one of the carboxylate oxygen atoms and the pyridone oxygen atom, and the thiosemicarbazone ligand via the imine nitrogen and the thione sulfur atoms with the metal(II) ion, forming distorted octahedral geometry. In vitro antiproliferative activity of the synthesized complexes was evaluated against three human breast cancer (T47D, estrogen negative (MDA-MB-231) and estrogen positive (MCF-7)) as well as non-tumorigenic human breast epithelial (MCF-10a) cell lines, which showed the higher activity for the copper(II) complexes. The interaction of the synthesized complexes with an oncogenic protein H-ras (121 p) was explored by in silico molecular docking studies. Further, in silico pharmacokinetics and ADMET parameters were also analysed to predict the drug-likeness as well as non-toxic and non-carcinogenic behavior, and safe oral administration of the complexes.

Structural and theoretical study of copper(ii) complex incorporating chalcone and 2,2′-bipyridine mixed ligands: a probable candidate for optical material

We report the synthesis, structural and photophysical data for a Cu(ii) complex, [Cu(L·bpy)(NO3)], with mixed chalcone and 2,2′-bipyridine ligands. Calculations are used to consider prospective applications in optoelectronic devices.

Effect of temperature and ligand protonation on the electronic ground state in Cu(ii) polymers having unusual secondary interactions: a magnetic and catechol oxidase study

New Pyrazole-Hydrazone Derivatives: X-ray Analysis, Molecular Structure Investigation via Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Their High In-Situ Catecholase Activity

The development of low-cost catalytic systems that mimic the activity of tyrosinase enzymes (Catechol oxidase) is of great promise for future biochemistry technologic demands. Herein, we report the synthesis of new biomolecules systems based on hydrazone derivatives containing a pyrazole moiety (L1-L6) with superior catecholase activity. Crystal structures of L1 and L2 biomolecules were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction (XRD). Optimized geometrical parameters were calculated by density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-31G (d, p) level and were found to be in good agreement with single crystal XRD data. Copper (II) complexes of the compounds (L1-L6), generated in-situ, were investigated for their catalytic activities towards the oxidation reaction of catechol to ortho-quinone with the atmospheric dioxygen, in an attempt to model the activity of the copper containing enzyme tyrosinase. The studies showed that the activities depend on four parameters: the nature of the ligand, the nature of counter anion, the nature of solvent and the concentration of ligand. The Cu(II)-ligands, given here, present the highest catalytic activity (72.920 μmol·L^-1·min^-1) among the catalysts recently reported in the existing literature.
