Self-assembly, aggregates morphology and ionic liquid crystal of polyoxometalate-based hybrid molecule: From vesicles to layered structure

Recent Advances in Confining Polyoxometalates and the Applications

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are widely used in catalysis, energy storage, biomedicine, and other research fields due to their unique acidity, photothermal, and redox features. However, the leaching and agglomeration problems of POMs greatly limit their practical applications. Confining POMs in a host material is an efficient tool to address the above-mentioned issues. POM@host materials have received extensive attention in recent years. They not only inherent characteristics of POMs and host, but also play a significant synergistic effect from each component. This review focuses on the recent advances in the development and applications of POM@host materials. Different types of host materials are elaborated in detail, including tubular, layered, and porous materials. Variations in the structures and properties of POMs and hosts before and after confinement are highlighted as well. In addition, an overview of applications for the representative POM@host materials in electrochemical, catalytic, and biological fields is provided. Finally, the challenges and future perspectives of POM@host composites are discussed.

Aggregates of Ionic-Bonds Coupled Polymer and Their Photosensitization Enhancement Effect

The formation of nanoaggregates makes a great difference to the improvement of photodynamic therapy (PDT) performance to some extent, but constructing stable aggregates with a clear structure is simultaneously a big challenge for us. Herein, just by electrostatic interaction, cationic 2PAHs and anionic FBA351, regarded as donor (D) and acceptor (A), respectively, are utilized to prepare stable aggregate of ionic-bonds coupled polymer (ICP) with repeated "D-A" structure, which is fully characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), time-of-flight mass spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Remarkably, aggregate ICP with multiple "D-A" structures showed enhanced photosensitization efficiency over its precursor 2PAHs and FBA351, which is in accord with the image-guided photodynamic anticancer therapy. Such results not only offer a simple way to obtain stable aggregate but also give us a guideline to design efficient photosensitizers.

Multi-praseodymium-and-tungsten bridging octameric tellurotungstate and its 2D honeycomb composite film for detecting estrogen

Under coordination driving force of tungsten and rare-earth (RE) bridges, we synthesized a novel giant multi-tungsten-and-RE-bridging octameric tellurotungstate (TT) [H₂N(CH₃)₂]₁₆K₈Na₆H₁₀[Pr₈(H₂O)₂₀W₁₆O₄₈][B-α-TeW₉O₃₃]₈·70H₂O (1) in CH₃CN-H₂O mixed solvent. The cluster anion {[Pr₈(H₂O)₂₀W₁₆O₄₈][B-α-TeW₉O₃₃]₈}^40- features sixteen W^VI bridges, eight Pr^III bridges and eight trivacant Keggin [B-α-TeW₉O₃₃]^8- fragments, which the square {W₄O₁₂} cluster can be imagined as a seed to induce the aggregation of eight [B-α-TeW₉O₃₃]^8- fragments by coordination driving force of additional twelve W^VI bridges and eight Pr^III ions. Furthermore, the 2D 1@DODA (dimethyldioctadecyl ammonium bromide = DODA·Br) honeycomb composite material was prepared. The honeycomb morphology of the 1@DODA composite material provides rich binding sites for electrodepositing Au nanoparticles to make Au/1@DODA electrodes. The aptamer of 17β-estradiol (E2) hormone can be grafted to the Au/1@DODA electrodes via Au-S bonding interaction to construct the Au/1@DODA aptamer biosensors. By virtue of the specific recognition interaction of aptamer and the electrochemical signal amplification function of methylene blue and cDNA, the Au/1@DODA aptamer biosensors can realize the electrochemical detection of E2. This finding not only offers an electrochemical biosensing platform for detecting E2, but also expands POM-based composite materials in the applications of clinical detection and biological analysis.
