Fabrication of metal incorporated polymer composite: An excellent antibacterial agent

Origanum vulgare manganese ferrite nanocomposite: An advanced multifunctional hybrid material for dye remediation

The purpose of the study was to fabricate sustainable and cost-effective material for the thorough cleansing of polluted water. In this context, an economical, phytogenic and multifunctional Origanum vulgare plant-based nanocomposite material, MnFe₂O₄/OV, was prepared via one-pot synthetic technique. The synthesized nanocomposite with a band gap of 2.02 eV behaved as an efficient nano-photocatalyst for the degradation of both cationic (crystal violet) and anionic (congo red) dyes under direct sunlight irradiation. The material also inhibited the growth of E. coli and S. aureus bacteria and simultaneously adsorbed both cationic and anionic dyes from water through adsorption. A variety of techniques have been used to characterize the nanocomposite, including X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Additionally, the kinetics of photodegradation of the aforementioned organic dyes has also been investigated. The MnFe₂O₄/OV exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance, leading to 43% and 72% degradation within 3 h at rate constants of 2.0 × 10^-3 min^-1 and 6.0 × 10^-3 min^-1 for crystal violet and congo red, respectively. The crystal violet and congo red were used to testify to the composite's potential for adsorption under the influence of several process variables, including initial solution pH, contact time, temperature, initial dye concentration, and amount of MnFe₂O₄/OV. The Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity Q_max as in the range 14.06-14.59 mgg^-1 for crystal violet and 34.45-23.93 mgg^-1 for congo red at pH 7 within 90 min contact time in the temperature range of 30-50 °C. The phenomenon of adsorption was found feasible and endothermic at all the investigated temperatures. Also, E. coli and S. Aureus bacteria have shown growth suppression activity when exposed to MnFe₂O₄/OV.As a result, the synthesized nanocomposite, MnFe₂O₄/OV, proved to be an antimicrobial, multifunctional novel nanocomposite, which is in high demand, and could serve as an affordable, and sustainable material for comprehensive water filtration.

Development of Metallo (Calcium/Magnesium) Polyurethane Nanocomposites for Anti-Corrosive Applications

Long-term corrosion protection of metals might be provided by nanocomposite coatings having synergistic qualities. In this perspective, rapeseed oil-based polyurethane (ROPU) and nanocomposites with calcium and magnesium ions were designed. The structure of these nanocomposites was established through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The morphological studies were carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Their thermal characteristics were studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Electrochemical experiments were applied for the assessment of the corrosion inhibition performance of these coatings in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution for 7 days. After completion of the test, the results revealed a very low i_corr value of 7.73 × 10^-10 A cm^-2, a low corrosion rate of 8.342 × 10^-5 mpy, impedance 1.0 × 10⁷ Ω cm², and phase angle (approx 90°). These findings demonstrated that nanocomposite coatings outperformed ordinary ROPU and other published methods in terms of anticorrosive activity. The excellent anti-corrosive characteristic of the suggested nanocomposite coatings opens up new possibilities for the creation of advanced high-performance coatings for a variety of metal industries.

Exploring inclusion complex of an anti-cancer drug (6-MP) with β-cyclodextrin and its binding with CT-DNA for innovative applications in anti-bacterial activity and photostability optimized by computational study

The co-evaporation approach was used to examine the host-guest interaction and to explore the cytotoxic and antibacterial properties of an important anti-cancer medication, 6-mercaptopurine monohydrate (6-MP) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The UV-Vis investigation confirmed the inclusion complex's (IC) 1 : 1 stoichiometry and was also utilized to oversee the viability of this inclusion process. FTIR, NMR, and XRD, among other spectrometric techniques, revealed the mechanism of molecular interactions between β-CD and 6-MP which was further hypothesized by DFT to verify tentative outcomes. TGA and DSC studies revealed that 6-MP's thermal stability increased after encapsulation. Because of the protection of drug 6-MP by β-CD, the formed IC was found to have higher photostability. This work also predicts the release behavior of 6-MP in the presence of CT-DNA without any chemical changes. An evaluation of the complex's antibacterial activity in vitro revealed that it was more effective than pure 6-MP. The in vitro cytotoxic activity against the human kidney cancer cell line (ACHN) was also found to be significant for the IC (IC₅₀ = 4.18 μM) compared to that of pure 6-MP (IC₅₀ = 5.49 μM). These findings suggest that 6-MP incorporation via β-CD may result in 6-MP stability and effective presentation of its solubility, cytotoxic and antibacterial properties.

Improvement in the Pharmacological Profile of Copper Biological Active Complexes by Their Incorporation into Organic or Inorganic Matrix

Every year, more Cu(II) complexes are proven to be biologically active species, but very few are developed as drugs or entered in clinical trials. This is due to their poor water solubility and lipophilicity, low stability as well as in vivo inactivation. The possibility to improve their pharmacological and/or oral administration profile by incorporation into inorganic or organic matrix was studied. Most of them are either physically encapsulated or conjugated to the matrix via a moiety able to coordinate Cu(II). As a result, a large variety of species were developed as delivery carriers. The organic carriers include liposomes, synthetic or natural polymers or dendrimers, while the inorganic ones are based on carbon nanotubes, hydrotalcite and silica. Some hybrid organic-inorganic materials based on alginate-carbonate, gold-PEG and magnetic mesoporous silica-Schiff base were also developed for this purpose.
