Abstract
Morchella esculenta (L.) Pers. is considered a precious edible and medicinal fungus due to its strict growth environment requirements, difficult to cultivate, resulted in expensive in the market. A polysaccharide (MMP-L) was isolated from the mycelia of Morchella esculenta, with molecular weight of 3.02 × 103 kDa. MMP-L was composed of galactose, glucose, and mannose in a molar ratio of 1.00: 12.89: 0.29. Structural characterization showed that MMP-L had a backbone mainly consisting of →4)-α-D-Glcp-(1→, →6)-α-D-Glcp-(1→, →4,6)-α-D-Glcp-(1→, →2)-α-D-Galp-(1→, →3)-α-D-Manp-(1→, and →4,6)-α-D-Manp-(1→, and branched chains incorporating of α-D-Glcp(1→. The antioxidant activity test results indicated that MMP-L has effective scavenging ability against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2'2-Azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS), and hydroxyl radicals. Within the range of concentration (0.05-3.20 mg/mL), MMP-L increased the enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in H2O2-induced PC12 cells in a dose-dependent manner, while inhibiting the content of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Furthermore, the decrease in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apoptosis in PC12 cells may be attributed to the activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and downstream mitochondrial apoptosis-related protein Bcl-2/BAX/Caspase-3 signaling pathways. In summary, MMP-L might serve as a potential functional components for the future prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders caused by oxidative damage.

Abstract
In recent years, polysaccharides extracted from berries have received great attention due to their various bioactivities. However, the preparation and application of berry polysaccharides have been greatly limited due to the lack of efficient extraction techniques, unclear structure-activity relationships, and ambiguous functional mechanisms. This review discusses the technological progress in solvent extraction, assisted extraction, critical extraction, and combination extraction. The structure-activity relationship and functional mechanism (antioxidation, hypoglycemic, immunoregulation etc.) of berry polysaccharides are reviewed. After systematic exploration, we believe that industrial production is more suitable for using efficient and low-cost extraction methods, such as ultrasonic assisted extraction and microwave assisted extraction. And some of the bioactivities (antioxidant activity, hypoglycemic activity, etc.) of berry polysaccharides are closely related to their structure (molecular weight, monosaccharide composition, branching structure, etc.). Besides, berry polysaccharides exhibit bioactivities by regulating enzyme activity, cellular metabolism, gene expression, and other pathways to exert their effects on the body. These findings indicate the potential of berry polysaccharides as functional foods and drugs. This paper will contribute to the preparation, bioactivity research, and application of berry polysaccharides.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate whether pectin extracted from comfrey roots (CRPs) could alleviate ulcerative colitis (UC) induced by sodium dextran sulfate (DSS) in mice by improving the intestinal barrier. CRP was able to relieve symptoms associated with weight loss, diarrhea, and colon length in UC mice. CRP inhibited the excessive secretion of TNF-α and IL-6 and increased the level of IL-10 in the serum. After CRP treatment, the mRNA expression levels of ZO-1 and Muc2 increased. The colonic epithelial cells recovered well, and the mucous layer was relatively intact in the CRP group. CRP and 5-aminosalicylic acid (ASA) alleviated UC symptoms in mice by reducing the abundance of Oscillibacter, Alistipes, and Anaeroplasma and increasing the abundance of Lachnospiraceae_UCG-001 to regulate the intestinal microflora. The abundance of Rikenellaceae was positively correlated with the mRNA expression level of ZO-1, and the abundance of Monoglobus was positively correlated with the mRNA expression level of Muc2. These results suggested that CRP could repair the intestinal barrier and mitigate DSS-induced colon damage in mice, indicating that CRP may be a potential functional component in combating UC.

Abstract
Introduction Cancer is the second most widespread cause of mortality following cardiovascular disorders, and it imposes a heavy global burden. Nowadays, herbal nutraceutical products with a plethora of bioactive metabolites represent a foundation stone for the development of promising chemopreventive and anticancer agents. Certain members of the family Malvaceae have traditionally been employed to relieve tumors. The literature concerning the chemopreventive and anticancer effects of the plant species along with the isolated cytotoxic phytometabolites was reviewed. Based on the findings, comprehensive computational modelling studies were performed to explore the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of the reported cytotoxic metabolites to present basis for future plant-based anticancer drug discovery. Methods All the available information about the anticancer research in family Malvaceae and its cytotoxic phytometabolites were retrieved from official sources. Extensive search was carried out using the keywords Malvaceae, cancer, cytotoxicity, mechanism and signalling pathway. Pharmacokinetic study was performed on the cytotoxic metabolites using SWISS ADME model. Acute oral toxicity expressed as median lethal dose (LD50) was predicted using Pro Tox 3.0 web tool. The compounds were docked using AutoDock Vina platform against epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR kinase enzyme) obtained from the Protein Data Bank. Molecular dynamic simulations and MMGBSA calculations were performed using GROMACS 2024.2 and gmx_MMPBSA tool v1.5.2. Results One hundred forty-five articles were eligible in the study. Several tested compounds showed safe pharmacokinetic properties. Also, the molecular docking study showed that the bioactive metabolites possessed agreeable binding affinities to EGFR kinase enzyme. Tiliroside (25), boehmenan (30), boehmenan H (31), and isoquercetin (22) elicited the highest binding affinity toward the enzyme with a score of -10.4, -10.4, -10.2 and -10.1 Kcal/mol compared to the reference drug erlotinib having a binding score equal to -9 Kcal/mol. Additionally, compounds 25 and 31 elicited binding free energies equal to -42.17 and -42.68 Kcal/mol, respectively, comparable to erlotinib. Discussion Overall, the current study presents helpful insights into the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of the reported cytotoxic metabolites belonging to family Malvaceae members. The molecular docking and dynamic simulations results intensify the roles of secondary metabolites from medicinal plants in fighting cancer.

Abstract
This study investigated the structural composition and antioxidant properties of pectic polysaccharides extracted from Rohdea japonica (Thunb.) Roth. Pectins, which belong to a complex category of acidic polysaccharides, possess a wide range of biological effects stemming from their distinctive structural domains. The polysaccharides were extracted using water, and were subsequently purified through ion exchange and gel permeation chromatography. In order to elucidate their structural features, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance techniques were applied. Two specific polysaccharides, WRJP-A2a and WRJP-A3b, with molecular weights of 42.7 kDa and 64.1 kDa, respectively, were identified to contain varying proportions of homogalacturonan, rhamnogalacturonan I, and rhamnogalacturonan II domains. Regarding antioxidant capacity, WRJP-A3b exhibited superior scavenging capabilities against DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radicals, potentially attributed to its higher galacturonic acid content and abundance of homogalacturonan domains. These results enhance our comprehension of the structure-activity interplay of pectic polysaccharides sourced from Rohdea japonica (Thunb.) Roth and their potential utility in the healthcare and functional food sectors.

Abstract
Artemisia argyi leaf polysaccharide (AALPs) were prepared through ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), and their antifatigue activities were evaluated. Extraction was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM), which yielded the following optimal UAE conditions: ultrasonication power of 300 W, extraction temperature of 51 °C, liquid:solid ratio of 20 mL/g, and ultrasonication time of 47 mins. The above optimal conditions resulted in the maximum extraction rate of 10.49 %. Compared with hot water extraction (HWE), UAE supported higher yields and total sugar, uronic acid, and sulfate contents of AALPs. Meanwhile, AALP prepared through UAE (AALP-U) exhibited higher stability due to its smaller particle size and higher absolute value of zeta potential than AALP prepared through HWE (AALP-H). In addition, AALP-U demonstrated stronger antioxidant activity than AALP-H. In forced swimming tests on mice, AALP-U could significantly prolong swimming time with a dose-dependent effect, increase liver and muscle glycogen levels, and improve other biochemical indices, thus showing great potential for application in functional food.

Abstract
The mesocarp (albedo) of passion fruit is considered a waste product but rich in soluble fibers, especially pectins. Biological activity and health benefits of pectins have recently emerged, especially in colorectal cancer and attenuating inflammation. Pectin conventional extraction often uses mineral acids, which can be hazardous to the environment, and alternatives can be costly. Here, we assessed a high-temperature and pressure method to extract pectin from the passion fruit albedo and evaluated the differences from the water-soluble fractions extracted. HPSEC, HPAEC, FTIR-ATR, and HSQC-NMR were performed to identify and confirm the highly methylated homogalacturonan structures. The heat-modified samples showed a decreased molecular size compared to the untreated sample. Colorectal cancer cell lines showed reduced viability after being treated with different doses of modified samples, with two of them, LW-MP3 and 4, showing the most potent effects. All samples were detected inside cells by immunofluorescence assay. It was observed that LW-MP3 and 4 upregulated the p53 protein, indicating cell-cycle arrest and the cleaved caspase-9 in one of the cell lines, with LW-MP4 enhancing cell death by apoptosis. Since the modified samples were composed of hydrolyzed homogalacturonans, those probably were the responsible structures for these anti-cancer effects.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition, structural properties, and biological properties of pectin polysaccharides (AP-FS, AP-QG, and AP-HG) isolated from different varieties of apple pomace. Based on the methylation and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses, the structure of AP-FS was determined to be composed of an α-1,4-linked homogalacturonan backbone that exhibited high levels of O-6 methylation. All pectins exhibit potent inhibitory activity against human colon cancer and human liver cancer cells, along with immunostimulatory effects. Among them, AP-FS exhibited the highest activity level. Finally, we further investigated the underlying mechanism behind the effect of AP-FS on RAW 264.7 cells using proteomics analysis. Our findings revealed that AP-FS triggers RAW 264.7 macrophage activation via NOD-like receptor (NLR), NF-κB, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways. Therefore, our research contributes to a better understanding of the structure-function relationship among apple pectins, and AP-FS has the potential to be applied to dietary supplements targeting immunomodulation.

Abstract
A glucosyl-rich pectin, JMMP-3 (Mw, 2.572 × 104 g/mol, O-methyl % = 3.62%), was isolated and purified from the pericarp of the immature fruit of Juglans mandshurica Maxim. (QingLongYi). The structure of JMMP-3 was studied systematically by infrared spectroscopy, monosaccharide compositions, methylation analysis, partial acid hydrolysis, and 1/2D-NMR. The backbone of JMMP-3 possessed a smooth region (→ 4GalA1 →) and a hairy region (→ 4GalA1 → 2Rha1 →) with a molar ratio of 2: 5. The substitution of four characteristic side chains (R1-R4) occurs at C-4 of → 2,4)-α-Rhap-(1→, where R1 is composed of → 5)-α-Araf-(1→, R2 is composed of → 4)-β-Galp-(1 → and β-Galp-(1→, R3 is composed of α-Glcp-(1→, →4)-α-Glcp-(1 → and → 4,6)-α-Glcp-(1→, and R4 is composed of → 5)-α-Araf-(1→, β-Galp-(1→, → 4)-β-Galp-(1→, → 3,4)-β-Galp-(1→, → 4,6)-β-Galp-(1 → and → 2,4)-β-Galp-(1 → . In addition, the antitumor activity of JMMP-3 on HepG2 cells was preliminarily investigated.

Abstract
In order to reduce the waste of Akebia trifoliata peel and maximize its utilization, in this study, on the basis of a single-factor experiment and the response surface method, the optimum technological conditions for the extraction of soluble dietary fiber from Akebia trifoliata peel with the compound enzyme method were obtained. The chemical composition, physical and chemical properties, structural characterization and biological activity of the purified soluble dietary fiber (AP-SDF) from the Akebia trifoliata peel were analyzed. We discovered that that the optimum yield was 20.87% under the conditions of cellulase addition 600 U/g, enzymolysis time 100 min, solid-liquid ratio 1:24 g/mL and enzymolysis temperature 51 °C. At the same time, AP-SDF was a porous network structure cellulose type I acidic polysaccharose mainly composed of arabinoxylan (36.03%), galacturonic acid (27.40%) and glucose (19.00%), which possessed the structural characteristic peaks of the infrared spectra of polysaccharides and the average molecular weight (Mw) was 95.52 kDa with good uniformity. In addition, the AP-SDF exhibited high oil-holding capacity (15.11 g/g), good water-holding capacity and swelling capacity, a certain antioxidant capacity in vitro, hypoglycemic activity in vitro for α-glucosidase inhibition and hypolipidemic activity in vitro for the binding ability of bile acids and cholesterol. These results will provide a theoretical basis for the development of functional products with antioxidant, hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects, which have certain application value in related industries.

Abstract
In this study, a response surface methodology (RSM) was used to determine the best combination for acid degradation parameters to reduce the viscosity of Plantago ovata Forssk seed polysaccharide (POFP). Then, the two major homogeneous polysaccharides (AH-POFP1 and AH-POFP3) were obtained by DEAE-650 M and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. The apparent structure of the main fraction AH-POFP1 was characterized by SEM, TG and XRD, and the linkage of AH-POFP1 was determined by a combination of partial acidolysis, Smith's degradation, methylation analysis and 2D NMR analysis. Structural analysis showed that AH-POFP1 was mainly composed of xylose, with a molecular weight of 618.1 kDa, and had a backbone of 1 → 4-linked Xylp, as well as branches of T-linked Xylp, 1 → 4-linked Xylp attached to the O-2 position. The antioxidant activity assays showed that the both AH-POFP1 and AH-POFP3 possess strong scavenging radical ability. Moreover, AH-POFP1 inhibits the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors, and promotes the secretion of anti-inflammatory factors, thereby exerting anti-inflammatory effects. These findings may help to guide future applications of Plantago ovata Forssk in the fields of food, health care, and pharmacy.

Abstract
Malpighia emarginata (Malpighiaceae), popularly known as "acerola", is a tropical and subtropical fruit native to the Americas. Despite its high vitamin C content, which gives it a high antioxidant property, soluble dietary fibers, such as polysaccharides, are also abundant constituents of acerola (10% of the dried fruit). The acerola cold-water soluble (ACWS) fraction presented anti-fatigue and antioxidant effects in vivo and in vitro. To infer further systemic effects of ACWS, this study aimed to investigate the antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of ACWS in murine models of pain. In formalin-induced nociception, ACWS (0.1, 1, and 10 mg/kg) reduced only the inflammatory phase, and also (10 and 30 mg/kg) attenuated the acetic acid-induced writhing and leukocyte migration in the peritoneal cavity. The mechanical allodynia and paw edema induced by intraplantar injection of carrageenan were greatly reduced by ACWS (10 mg/kg). At the inflammatory pick induced by carrageenan (4 h), ACWS significantly reduced myeloperoxidase activity, TNF-α, IL-1β, and PGE2 levels, and restored IL-10 levels. ACWS also exhibited antioxidant properties by decreasing lipid hydroperoxides content, increasing GSH levels, and restoring superoxide dismutase and catalase activities in the carrageenan model and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging assay. Collectively, these results support the antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of ACWS and reveal a promising candidate for the treatment of inflammatory pain conditions.

Abstract
Penthorum chinense has been used in both food and medication for many years, and polysaccharide of which was considered as one of the bioactive compounds. However, the extraction process of polysaccharide from P. chinense (PCP) was not well optimized. Ultrasound-assisted extractionhas been widely employed in the extraction of natural products for its compliance with the concept of green and economic chemistry. To better investigate the structure and biology activity of PCP, response surface methodology was employed to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions of PCP. The optimum extraction for the ultrasound-assisted extraction of PCP were obtained as ratio of solvent to material 40 mL/g, ultrasonic power 380 W, and extraction time of 50 min. The yield of PCP reached 8.71% under these optimized conditions. PCP was further purified by using anion exchange chromatography and gel filtration, an acidic fraction PCP-AP-1 was hereby obtained. The results of structural elucidation indicated that PCP-AP-1 was a typical pectic polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 66360 Da, mainly composed of galacturonic acid (68.5 mol%), followed by arabinose (9.8 mol%), rhamnose (9.4 mol%), glucose (7.7 mol%), with homogalacturonan region and rhamnogalacturonan I regions. In vitro study showed that PCP-AP-1 could improve the inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide in intestinal epithelial cells, which was probably performed through the inhibition of multiple signaling pathways including the inhibition of TLR4, NOD1/2 and NF-κB pathway, as well as the reduction of NLRP3 inflammasome. This study defined the type of polysaccharide present in P. chinense and revealed a potential of application this plant in the prevention of intestinal inflammatory diseases.

Abstract
Passiflora, also known as "passion fruit", is widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions. It is not only eaten raw but is also widely used in processed foods. Various extracts, juices and isolated compounds show a wide range of health effects and biological activities, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, sedative, and neuroprotective effects. In this review, we not only review the phytochemical properties of Passiflora but also highlight the potential of Passiflora for food applications and the use of all parts as a source of ingredients for medicines and cosmetics that promote health and well-being. This will provide theoretical support for the integrated use of such natural products.

Abstract
Background Pectins are a class of acidic polysaccharides with complex structures. Different pectin molecules are composed of different domains, which have an important impact on their biological activity. Objective This study aimed to determine the structural features and the antioxidant activities of the pectic polysaccharides isolated from Veronica peregrina L. Methods The polysaccharide was isolated from Veronica peregrina L by water extraction and fractionated by ion exchange chromatography and gel permeation chromatography. The structure features of the pectic polysaccharides were determined by Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The antioxidant activities was evaluated by the DPPH, OH and ABTS radical scavenging ability. Results WVPP-A2b and WVPP-A3b, with molecular weights of 48.7 × 104 and 77.6 × 104 kDa, respectively, contained homogalacturonan (HG), rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I), and rhamnogalacturonan II (RG-II) domains with a mass ratio of 2.08:2.64:1.00 and 3.87:4.65:1:00, respectively. The RG-I domain contained an arabinogalactan II backbone and arabinans consisting of t-Araf, (1→5)-α-Araf, and (1→3,5)-α-Araf. WVPP-A3b also contained short chains consisting of the [t-Araf-(1→5)-α-Araf-(1→] structural unit. WVPP-A3b showed stronger ability to scavenge DPPH, hydroxyl, and ABTS radicals, which was potentially associated with its high content of galacturonic acid and presence of the HG domain. Conclusion The results provide information for enhancing knowledge of the structureactivity relationship of pectic polysaccharides from V. peregrina and their potential application in the healthcare food field.

Abstract
In order to further improve the economic benefits of the coffee industry chain, we carried out the following systematic research on processing by-products. In this research, the obtained coffee cherry peel polysaccharide (CCP) which was removed from the coffee cherry peel by hot acid method had a galacturonic acid content of 20.50 % and a molecular weight of 3.05 kg/mol. According to the results of monosaccharide analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, molecular weight distribution, and thermal analysis, CCP was a typical high methoxy polysaccharide. In vitro antioxidant results showed that CCP had better antioxidant capacity than commercial citrus polysaccharide (APC). When it came to emulsification performance, the water-oil bonding ability and disturbance resistance to the fluid of CCP were also significantly higher than that of APC. Specially, we found that 0.50 % (wt%) CCP could form a solid-liquid gel with very high plasticity at low oil phase fraction. In conclusion, the coffee cherry peel could be used as a natural source of a novel emulsifier, providing a promising alternative for polysaccharide in the food industry.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to explore the structural changes and oxidation resistance of ultrasonic degradation products of sugar beet pectin (SBP). The changes in the structures and antioxidant activity between SBP and its degradation products were compared. As the ultrasonic treatment time increased, the content of α-D-1,4-galacturonic acid (GalA) also increased, to 68.28%. In addition, the neutral sugar (NS) content, esterification degree (DE), particle size, intrinsic viscosity and viscosity-average molecular weight (MV) of the modified SBP decreased. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to study the degradation of the SBP structure after ultrasonication. After ultrasonic treatment, the DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging activities of the modified SBP reached 67.84% and 54.67% at the concentration of 4 mg/mL, respectively, and the thermal stability of modified SBP was also improved. All of the results indicate that the ultrasonic technology is an environmentally friendly, simple, and effective strategy to improve the antioxidant capacity of SBP.

Abstract
The processing of Passiflora edulis Sims results in large amounts of wasted peel resources and environmental pollution. In order to improve the utilisation of natural plant resources and economic benefits, this study uses Saccharomyces cerevisiae to ferment Passiflora edulis Sims peel to obtain Passiflora edulis Sims peel fermentation broth (PF). The content of active substances in unfermented Passiflora edulis Sims peel water extract (PW) and PF is then determined, as well as their in vitro antioxidant capacity. The protective effects of PF and PW on UVB-induced skin inflammation and skin barrier damage in human immortalised epidermal keratinocytes (HaCaT) cells (including cell viability, ROS, HO-1, NQO1, IL-1β, IL-8, TNF-α, KLK-7, FLG, AQP3 and Caspase 14 levels) are investigated. Studies have shown that PF enhances the content of active substances more effectively compared to PW, showing a superior ability to scavenge free radical scavenging and antioxidants. PW and PF can effectively scavenge excess intracellular ROS, reduce the cellular secretion of pro-inflammatory factors, regulate the content of skin barrier-related proteins and possibly respond to UVB-induced cell damage by inhibiting the activation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling pathway. Studies have shown that both PW and PF are safe and non-irritating, with PF exploiting the efficacy of Passiflora edulis Sims peel more significantly, providing a superior process for the utilisation of Passiflora edulis Sims waste. At the same time, PF can be developed and used as a functional protective agent against ultraviolet damage to the skin, thereby increasing the value of the use of Passiflora edulis Sims waste.

Abstract
As primary coffee by-products, Arabica coffee husks are largely discarded during coffee-drying, posing a serious environmental threat. However, coffee husks could be used as potential material for extracting pectin polysaccharides, with high bioactivities and excellent processing properties. Thus, the present study aimed to extract the pectin polysaccharide from Arabica coffee husk(s) (CHP). The CHP yield was calculated after vacuum freeze-drying, and its average molecular weight (Mw) was detected by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The structural characteristics of CHP were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, the rheological and antioxidant properties of CHP and the inhibition capacities of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) with different concentrations were evaluated. The interaction mechanisms between galacturonic acid (GalA) and the AGE receptor were analyzed using molecular docking. The results demonstrated that the CHP yield was 19.13 ± 0.85%, and its Mw was 1.04 × 106 Da. The results of the structural characteristics results revealed that CHP was an amorphous and low-methoxyl pectic polysaccharide linked with an α-(1→6) glycosidic bond, and mainly composed of rhamnose (Rha, 2.55%), galacturonic acid (GalA, 45.01%), β-N-acetyl glucosamine (GlcNAc, 5.17%), glucose (Glc, 32.29%), galactose (Gal, 6.80%), xylose (Xyl, 0.76%), and arabinose (Ara, 7.42%). The surface microstructure of CHP was rough with cracks, and its aqueous belonged to non-Newtonian fluid with a higher elastic modulus (G'). Furthermore, the results of the antioxidant properties indicated that CHP possessed vigorous antioxidant activities in a dose manner, and the inhibition capacities of AGEs reached their highest of 66.0 ± 0.35% at 1.5 mg/mL of CHP. The molecular docking prediction demonstrated that GalA had a good affinity toward AGE receptors by -6.20 kcal/mol of binding energy. Overall, the study results provide a theoretical basis for broadening the application of CHP in the food industry.

Abstract
Passion fruit is a tropical liana of the Passiflora family that is commonly planted throughout the world due to its abundance of nutrients and industrial value. Researchers are committed to exploring the relationship between phenotype and genotype to promote the improvement of passion fruit varieties. However, the traditional manual phenotyping methods have shortcomings in accuracy, objectivity, and measurement efficiency when obtaining large quantities of personal data on passion fruit, especially internal organization data. This study selected samples of passion fruit from three widely grown cultivars, which differed significantly in fruit shape, size, and other morphological traits. A Micro-CT system was developed to perform fully automated nondestructive imaging of the samples to obtain 3D models of passion fruit. A designed label generation method and segmentation method based on U-Net model were used to distinguish different tissues in the samples. Finally, fourteen traits, including fruit volume, surface area, length and width, sarcocarp volume, pericarp thickness, and traits of fruit type, were automatically calculated. The experimental results show that the segmentation accuracy of the deep learning model reaches more than 0.95. Compared with the manual measurements, the mean absolute percentage error of the fruit width and length measurements by the Micro-CT system was 1.94% and 2.89%, respectively, and the squares of the correlation coefficients were 0.96 and 0.93. It shows that the measurement accuracy of external traits of passion fruit is comparable to manual operations, and the measurement of internal traits is more reliable because of the nondestructive characteristics of our method. According to the statistical data of the whole samples, the Pearson analysis method was used, and the results indicated specific correlations among fourteen phenotypic traits of passion fruit. At the same time, the results of the principal component analysis illustrated that the comprehensive quality of passion fruit could be scored using this method, which will help to screen for high-quality passion fruit samples with large sizes and high sarcocarp content. The results of this study will firstly provide a nondestructive method for more accurate and efficient automatic acquisition of comprehensive phenotypic traits of passion fruit and have the potential to be extended to more fruit crops. The preliminary study of the correlation between the characteristics of passion fruit can also provide a particular reference value for molecular breeding and comprehensive quality evaluation.

Abstract
Elaeagnus angustifolia Linnaeus is a medicinal plant and its fruit has pharmacological activity such as antiinflammatory, antiedema, antinociceptive, and muscle relaxant functions, etc. Two acidic homogeneous polysaccharides (EAP-H-a1 and EAP-H-a2) were isolated from the fruits of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. through DEAE-52 and Sephadex G-75 column chromatography, and the physicochemical, structural properties, and biological activities of the polysaccharides were investigated. Both EAP-H-a1 and EAP-H-a2 were composed of Rha, Ara, Xyl, Glc, and Gal with the molar ratios of 13.7:20.5:23.3:8.8:33.4 and 24.8:19.7:8.2:8.4:38.6, respectively, and with the molecular weights of 705.796 kDa and 439.852 kDa, respectively. The results obtained from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the polysaccharide nature of the isolated substances. Congo red assay confirmed the existence of a triple-helix structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that EAP-H-a1 and EAP-H-a2 had irregular fibrous, filament-like surfaces; and both had crystalline and amorphous structures. Bioactivity analysis showed that the crude polysaccharide, EAP-H-a1, and EAP-H-a2 had clear DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging activity, and could promote the secretion of NO and the phagocytic activities of RAW 264.7 and THP cells, which showed clear antioxidant and immuno-regulatory activity. These results indicated that Elaeagnus angustifolia L fruit acidic polysaccharides may have potential value in the pharmaceutical and functional food industries.
