Abstract
BACKGROUND Febrile convulsions are a common pediatric emergency that imposes significant psychological stress on children and their families. Targeted emergency care and psychological nursing are widely applied in clinical practice, but their value and impact on the management of pediatric febrile convulsions are unclear. AIM To determine the impact of targeted emergency nursing combined with psychological nursing on satisfaction in children with febrile convulsions. METHODS Data from 111 children with febrile convulsions who received treatment at Nantong Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital between June 2021 and October 2022 were analyzed. The control group consisted of 44 children who received conventional nursing care and the research group consisted of 67 children who received targeted emergency and psychological nursing. The time to fever resolution, time to resolution of convulsions, length of hospital stays, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, patient compliance, nursing satisfaction of the parents, occurrence of complications during the nursing process, and parental anxiety and depression were compared between the control and research groups. Parental anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD) and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAMA). RESULTS The fever resolution, convulsion disappearance, and hospitalization times were longer in the control group compared with the research group (P < 0.0001). The time to falling asleep, sleep time, sleep quality, sleep disturbance, sleep efficiency, and daytime status scores were significantly better in the research group compared with the control group (P < 0.0001). The HAMD and HAMA scores for parents of children in the research group were lower than the scores in the control group after nursing (P < 0.05). Compliance with treatment of children in the research group was higher than in the control group (P < 0.05). Parental satisfaction with nursing in the research group was higher than in the control group (P < 0.05). The total complication rate of children in the control group was higher than in the research group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Combining psychological nursing with targeted emergency nursing improved the satisfaction of children's families and compliance with treatment and promoted early recovery of clinical symptoms and improvement of sleep quality.

Abstract
Background Death education has been confirmed to be an effective method to enhance nursing students' attitudes and coping abilities toward death. However, integrated Narrative Pedagogy into the death education to explore educational effectiveness is still limited. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of a death education based on Narrative Pedagogy in a palliative care course on the attitude toward death, coping with death, and attitude toward caring for the dying among undergraduate nursing students in China. Methods The study was designed as a pre-post intervention study with a quasi-experimental design. All the participants received 6 class hours of death education which was designed in a palliative care course. The death education includes preparation, presentation, discussion, reflection, and practice of the narrative materials. Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R), Coping with Death Scale (CDS), and Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying-Form B (FATCOD-Form B) were used to measure outcomes. Results Sixty undergraduate nursing students who consented. There were statistically significant increases in the mean score of neutral acceptance and approach acceptance in the DAP-R, CDS, and FATCOD-Form B before and after the intervention. Conclusion This death education integrated Narrative Pedagogy which indicated to improve attitude toward death, competence to cope with death, and attitude toward the care of dying patients. The findings assist teachers in understanding the importance and urgency of death education, as well as providing a favorable approach to death education. However, the long-term effectiveness still needs to study in further.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to explore the experiences of senior nursing students working in a pediatric outpatient clinic. METHODS This study adopted a descriptive phenomenological approach, through semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling was used to select 12 senior nursing students in the pediatric outpatient clinic of West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, China, from August 2020 to March 2021. The collected data were analyzed using the Colaizzi method. RESULTS Four themes were identified in this study: knowledge and skills (triage, emergency care), communication (courage, communication skills), value re-evaluation (understand of outpatient nurses, judgment of outpatient nurses), and outpatient feelings (satisfaction, empathy, pressure). CONCLUSION Pediatric outpatient internships have a positive impact on senior nursing students. Research has found that constructing a nursing clinical practice pathway in pediatric outpatient clinics helps teachers and students clarify the objectives and content of internships, and the "shadow teaching" model is conducive to nursing students' empathy and thinking. In addition, outpatient internship experience can help students gain communication courage.

Abstract
AIM To synthesise the experiences of nursing students encountering patient death and caring for patients under palliative care or at end-of-life and their families in clinical settings BACKGROUND: Nurses are pivotal in caring for dying patients and families. It has been reported that nursing students feel unprepared in caring for dying patients and handling patient death. Understanding their experiences would better inform how palliative care education can be improved and how students can be better supported in clinical settings. DESIGN A qualitative systematic review and meta-synthesis METHODS: PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, ProQuest and Google Scholar were searched for peer-reviewed articles and theses/dissertations published between 1 January 2012-25 Feb 2023. Qualitative studies of any design reporting nursing students' experiences of patient death, caring for patients under palliative care, at end-of-life, or with time-limiting diseases in clinical settings in English were included. Study quality was evaluated using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool. Data were synthesised using Sandelowski and Barroso's 2-step framework through a meta-summary using thematic analysis, which were then integrated into meta-syntheses using an event timeline. RESULTS The review included 71 studies from 26 countries (n = 1586 nursing students). The meta-summary contained 8 themes and 23 subthemes: (1) Communication experience with patients and families, (2) Satisfaction with care provided to patients and families, (3) Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on death and dying, (4) Perceptions of death and dying, (5) Impact of death, (6) Nursing education on palliative end-of-life care, (7) Support systems and coping methods, (8) Learning outcomes. The meta-synthesis depicted nursing students' experiences before, during and after encountering dying patients, families and patient death. Suggestions for nursing faculty and clinical staff on how they could equip students with necessary skills and knowledge and support them in clinical settings were also provided. CONCLUSIONS While caring for dying patients and families was beneficial to nursing students' learning and professional development, they encountered many challenges. Governments, clinical and academic nursing leaders must prioritise the integration of palliative care content into the curricula across nursing schools in face of increasing palliative and end-of-life care needs in patients. Nursing schools should ensure that students are adequately prepared by designing culturally and socioeconomically relevant curricula, integrating theoretical and experiential learning and offering students a thorough understanding of palliative and end-of-life care. Clinical staff and nursing instructors should support students emotionally and guide them in patient care.

Abstract
Objective Internationally, intern nursing students' experiences with dying patients and death are an area of great concern. However, barriers to providing end-of-life care for dying cancer patients have not been extensively investigated in mainland China, where death remains a taboo issue. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate intern nursing students' perceived barriers to their performance in providing end-of-life cancer care in the Chinese cultural context. Methods This was a descriptive, qualitative study. Twenty-one intern nursing students from three cancer centers in mainland China were interviewed between January 2021 and June 2022. A thematic analysis method was used to analyze the data. The theory of planned behavior was adopted to design the study and identify themes. Results A range of barriers related to attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control that hindered intern nursing students from acquiring abilities to deal with patient dying and death were identified in the Chinese cultural context. Conclusions Chinese intern nursing students encountered many barriers that affected their provision of end-of-life care to dying cancer patients. Strategies to improve their ability to provide appropriate end-of-life care should focus on helping them develop appropriate attitudes toward dying and death and how to overcome subjective norms and behavioral control barriers.
