Abstract
Sociocultural diversity in the German health care system is increasingly reflected in multicultural teams and the diversity of patients. To ensure successful collaboration in a multicultural environment and effective care to diverse patients the importance of cross-cultural competence training is growing. There is a lack of evidence-based training approaches for the German health care system, and it is unclear how the theoretical-conceptual promotion of cross-cultural competence can be achieved sustainably. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of cross-cultural competence training for German health care professionals. A quasi-experimental evaluation study in two German hospitals was conducted. Cross-cultural competence was examined in an intervention and a control group (n = 196) using the self-reported instrument Cross-Cultural Competence of Healthcare Professionals (CCCHP) and analyzed with SPSS Statistics 25. Cross-cultural training had a cognitive level impact on knowledge, awareness, and attitudes and showed a highly significant reduction in social desirability. On an affective level, cross-cultural motivation and curiosity initially increased at t1 and decreased at t2. Cross-cultural emotion and empathy increased slightly. On a behavioral level, cross-cultural skills decreased after the training. For sustainable effects, cross-cultural training should focus more on practical skills in addition to theoretical content. Training interventions should be long-term. The results show that more needs to be done in the German health care sector to meet the increasing diversity and demands.

Abstract
Background and Purpose: Given the broad availability of instruments developed to assess cultural competence, there is a need to develop psychometric properties of existing instruments so they might be adapted accordingly. The purpose of this study was to conduct a psychometric evaluation of the Intercultural Competence Scale (ICS) to ensure its validity and reliability of measurement. Methods: The psychometric evaluation included scale selection and construction, psychometric testing, and instrument validation. Data analysis methods included item analysis, internal consistency reliability, and exploratory factor analysis. Results: Participants in this longitudinal study included 215 nursing students from a selected university. The ICS adopted three instruments modified into a 21-item tool. Conclusion: This study provides a foundation for future research to develop a modified instrument for measuring cultural competence.

Abstract
With the introduction of more complex health conditions and the changing landscape of the healthcare infrastructure, burnout is increasingly becoming a crisis for the nursing profession and for the public. Recruitment in nursing must consider the concept of a nurturing environment as a key driver of sustainability within the profession. Human beings cannot flourish in hostile and unwelcoming environments. Failure to thrive in nursing is a real phenomenon that is driven by multiple factors, including incivility, workplace bullying, and lack of support. Mitigation requires intentional, strategic interventions toward building nurturing environments in education and practice for the next generation of nurses.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to understand the perspectives of female residents of Spain from West Africa in terms of the factors that condition their lives. Pierre Bourdieu's theory and the model of intersectionality formed the framework we used to qualitatively analyse the life stories of these women, which was complemented with life lines. The results showed us that traditional practices such as female genital mutilation and forced marriage are part of the social habitus of this group and they relate to each other through the several types of violence that occurs throughout their lives. In addition, in reference to the African community, these women were no longer African, while in terms of the Spanish community, they did not seem Spanish. At a health, political, and social level, this knowledge can help us to understand this group and to create personalised targeted interventions for them.

Abstract
AIM To explore critical care nurses' perceptions of bereavement nursing care in critical care settings at a tertiary hospital in Singapore. BACKGROUND Grief and bereavement are stressful life experiences associated with significant health problems. Critical care nurses play important roles in supporting bereaved family members, and their self-competence affects the quality of the care they deliver. Exploring critical care nurses' perceptions of bereavement nursing care is thus essential. METHODS An exploratory descriptive qualitative study design was adopted. A total of 16 nurses were recruited. One-on-one interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide and were audio-recorded. The data collected were analysed using thematic analysis. This study was reported according to the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist. FINDINGS Five themes surfaced in the study, namely, family responses, holistic care, psychological impact, self-competence and organisational dynamics. CONCLUSION This study highlighted the key roles of critical care nurses in providing bereavement care, how their self-competence impacts care delivery and the significant impacts of organisational policies on their capacity to provide care. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND NURSING POLICY Nursing administrators should provide enhanced organisational support to critical care nurses who provide bereavement nursing care, and implement training work plans to ensure nurses are adequately prepared to provide culturally appropriate care. Strategies should be introduced to reduce administrative burden, expand the role of critical care nurses in providing bereavement nursing care, and establish and enlist role models as drivers of bereavement nursing care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Palliative care practitioners are increasingly caring for patients and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. There is growing awareness of the influence of culture on many aspects of care in the palliative phase of an illness. However, disparities have been noted in the provision of palliative care to patients from culturally diverse backgrounds and challenges have been reported in meeting their needs and those of their families. METHOD A qualitative systematic review of research papers identified through searching four databases. Papers were screened against inclusion criteria within the timeframe of January 2012 to March 2022. Data was extraction from all included studies and methodological quality assessed utilising the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Tool. Thematic analysis followed Braun and Clarke's framework and the review is reported in line with PRISMA guidelines. FINDINGS The search yielded 1954 results of which 26 were included for appraisal and review. Four themes were identified: communication and connection, the role of the family in death and dying, the role of education in addressing uncertainty, and institutional and societal factors. The findings highlighted challenges of communication and a fear of acting in a culturally insensitive way, the pivotal role of the family, the need for an individualised approach to care, the universality of needs when approaching end of life and the need for education of practitioners. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that healthcare practitioners draw on their existing skills to adapt their practice to meet the needs of patients from culturally diverse backgrounds. However, results also indicate a need for further education and identification of educational approaches best suited to supporting healthcare professionals in practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cultural competence is an important attribute underpinning interactions between healthcare professionals, such as pharmacists, and patients from ethnic minority communities. Health- and medicines-related inequalities affecting people from underrepresented ethnic groups, such as poorer access to healthcare services and poorer overall treatment outcomes in comparison to their White counterparts, have been widely discussed in the literature. Community pharmacies are the first port of call for healthcare services accessed by diverse patient populations; yet, limited research exists which explores the perceptions of culturally competent care within the profession, or the delivery of cultural competence training to community pharmacy staff. This research seeks to gather perspectives of community pharmacy teams relating to cultural competence and identify possible approaches for the adoption of cultural competence training. METHODS Semistructured interviews were conducted in-person, over the telephone or via video call, between October and December 2022. Perspectives on cultural competence and training were discussed. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The reflexive thematic analysis enabled the development of themes. QSR NVivo (Version 12) facilitated data management. Ethical approval was obtained from the Newcastle University Ethics Committee (reference: 25680/2022). RESULTS Fourteen participants working in community pharmacies were interviewed, including eight qualified pharmacists, one foundation trainee pharmacist, three pharmacy technicians/dispensers and two counter assistants. Three themes were developed from the data which centred on (1) defining and appreciating cultural competency within pharmacy services; (2) identifying pharmacies as 'cultural hubs' for members of the diverse, local community and (3) delivering cultural competence training for the pharmacy profession. CONCLUSION The results of this study offer new insights and suggestions on the delivery of cultural competence training to community pharmacy staff, students and trainees entering the profession. Collaborative co-design approaches between patients and pharmacy staff could enable improved design, implementation and delivery of culturally competent pharmacy services. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION The Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement group at Newcastle University had input in the study design and conceptualisation. Two patient champions inputted to ensure that the study was conducted, and the findings were reported, with cultural sensitivity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A clear need for the development of new comprehensive, reliable, sensitive and valid measurement tools to adequately asses the cultural competence and cultural sensitivity of nursing students exists. This study aimed to develop a new measurement tool to assess the nursing students' cultural competence and sensitivity. METHODS This cross-sectional, instrument development study's first phase included postgraduate nursing students (n = 60) for the piloting study, and the second one included undergraduate nursing students (n = 459) for the main survey. This study used two data collection forms: The Student Descriptive Information Form and the Better and Effective Nursing Education for Improving Transcultural Nursing Skills Cultural Competence and Cultural Sensitivity Assessment Tool (BENEFITS-CCCSAT) draft. The content validity index was calculated using the Davis method. Cronbach's α coefficient and the item total correlation were calculated during the reliability analysis. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) coefficient test, Bartlett significance test, and explanatory factor analysis (EFA) were used to evaluate the validity of the assessment tool. RESULTS Scale validity and reliability analyses showed that the BENEFITS-CCCSAT included 26 items and five sub-dimensions: respect for cultural diversity; culturally sensitive communication; achieving cultural competence; challenges and barriers in providing culturally competent care; and perceived meaning of cultural care. CONCLUSION The BENEFITS-CCCSAT appears to be a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the cultural sensitivity and cultural competence of nursing students. This can be of great use, especially before attending clinical areas, and can offer both students and faculty reliable information to promote reflective and critical thinking, especially in areas where improvement is needed.

Abstract
Because of globalization, immigration, and mass exodus from countries due to political conflicts, there is an ever-changing mix of people with diverse cultural backgrounds who require institutions to provide continuing education to ensure that effective services are provided to everyone. Part of the transcultural challenges involves religion, socioeconomic differences and languages, and ethnic backgrounds that differ. The objective of this study was to examine whether a transcultural training program for undergraduate nursing students in Israel could enhance students' cultural competence. In this study, 319 senior undergraduate nursing students were asked to complete the Transcultural Health Care Screening Questionnaire as a measure of their cultural competence. The students' cultural competence was satisfactory but less than it had been in previous years. The authors suggest that cultural competence needs to be considered as a contextual, developmental, and experiential process that requires ongoing attention and curricular revisions.

Background
In the recent era, nursing needs employees with moral intelligence, cultural competence, and self-compassion skills more than ever. This study aimed to determine the predictors of moral intelligence and its relationship with self-compassion and cultural competence in nursing students.
Methods
This cross-sectional and multi-center descriptive study was conducted in 2022. With convenience sampling, 250 nursing students from three Iranian universities participated in this study. Data gathering included the Moral Intelligence Questionnaire, Self-Compassion Scale (short form), and Cultural Competency Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the correlation between variables, and hierarchical regression.
Results
The results showed that nursing students had good moral intelligence (72.63 ± 11.38), moderate self-compassion (37.19 ± 5.02), and poor cultural competence (50.06 ± 13.15). No statistically significant relationship was observed between self-compassion and cultural competence (r = 0.11, p = 0.07). Moral intelligence with marital status (r = 0.16, p = 0.01), academic year (r = 0.14, p = 0.03) and self-compassion (r = 0.33, p < 0.001) had a significant relationship in such a way that these variables explained 15% of moral intelligence and self-compassion had the highest impact (p < 0.001).
Conclusion
Considering the moderate level of self-compassion and the poor level of cultural competence reported in the undergraduate nursing students, and also that self-compassion was known to be a predictive factor for moral intelligence, planners and educators must pay more attention to promoting self-compassion and cultural competency in the curriculum and conduct studies to find ways to improve them.

Abstract
Objective. To identify and describe validated assessment tools that measure cultural competence and are relevant to pharmacy education.Methods. A systematic approach was used to identify quantitative cultural competence assessment tools relevant to pharmacy education. A systematic search of the literature was conducted using the OVID and EBSCO databases and a manual search of journals deemed likely to include tools relevant to pharmacy education. To be eligible for the review, the tools had to be developed using a study sample from the United States, have at least one peer-reviewed validated publication, be applicable to the pharmacy profession, and be published since 2010.Results. The systematic literature and manual search identified 27 tools. Twelve assessment tools met the criteria to be included in the summary and their relevancy to pharmacy education is discussed.Conclusion. A review of literature demonstrates that assessment tools vary widely and there is no one tool that can effectively assess all aspects of cultural competence in pharmacy students or the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. As cultural competence is a priority within the accreditation standards for pharmacy education, PharmD programs are encouraged to develop additional tools that measure observed performance.

Abstract
The continued reports of declining standards of care for culturally diverse patients, highlights the urgent need for nurse educators to critically examine how cultural competence development is facilitated in everyday teaching. Nurses frequently report experiencing difficulties when adapting caring practice to culturally diverse groups. Subsequently, there needs to be a rooting of continuous cultural competence development threaded throughout undergraduate curricula. Simulation pedagogy can be used as a vehicle for nurturing cultural competence, but this requires a review of how culturally responsive simulation is structured and designed. This paper focuses on culturally responsive simulation as a means of improving the preparation of nurses for working in a broadening culturally diverse healthcare context by outlining fundamental considerations when integrating cultural competence development in everyday simulation.
