Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex health issue include obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and chronic inflammation that increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). CVDs are of great concern in the disease progression and prognosis of T2DM. This review is a comprehensive examination of the literature on the relationship between T2DM and cardiovascular risk, nutrition-related cardiometabolic risk (CMR) factors, and impact of dietary modulations on CMR. RECENT FINDINGS In recent years the researches has been focus on the importance of a comprehensive treatment approach like dietary modulations to address multiple cardiovascular risk reductions, including hypertension and dyslipidemia. Modulation of dietary patterns are the most promising interventions to prevent CMR factors and T2DM via affecting the body weight, glucose control, and microbial diversity of individuals. Current evidence suggests that high-quality dietary patterns such as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan and the Mediterranean diet is important in the metabolic control processes of T2DM with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds, glucagon-like peptide agonist compounds, and intestinal microbiota changes. Nutrition plays a critical role in preventing and improving CVD outcomes in patients with T2DM. Dietary modulations should be planned considering individual differences in responses to dietary composition and nutritional changes, personal preferences, eating behaviors and gut microbiota differences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Night-Eating Syndrome (NES) is a complex eating disorder that has gained recognition in the context of bariatric surgery. However, its prevalence and associated factors in this specific patient population remain understudied, particularly in the Saudi Arabian context. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from June to November 2022. Adult patients who had undergone bariatric surgery with a postoperative follow-up of 6 months were included. NES was assessed using the Night Eating Questionnaire (NEQ). RESULTS A total of 154 patients were enrolled in the study, with a mean age of 38.8 ± 11.4 years. The mean BMI before surgery was 44.8 ± 8.2 kg/m2, which reduced to 28.9 ± 5.8 kg/m2 post-surgery. Of these, 52 patients (33.8%) met the criteria for NES based on NEQ scores. The prevalence of NES was significantly higher among female patients, with 35 out of 83 females (42.2%) compared to 17 out of 71 males (23.9%) experiencing NES. While NES was not significantly associated with age, nationality, diet adherence, BMI, or surgery type, chronic diseases-particularly diabetes-emerged as significant risk factors for NES in post-bariatric surgery patients. CONCLUSION NES is a prevalent concern among post-bariatric surgery patients, with distinct associations with gender and chronic diseases, particularly diabetes. This study provides valuable insights into NES prevalence and its risk factors in the Saudi Arabian context, highlighting the importance of addressing eating disorders within the framework of bariatric surgery care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Eating disorders (EDs) are severe and multifaceted mental health issues that affect a person's perception of their body weight in relationship with food. Existing evidence shows that EDs significantly affect the physical and emotional health of individuals with Type-2 Diabetes (T2D) and are associated with impaired metabolic control and a high risk of medical complications, including higher mortality rates. However, there is a paucity of research looking into the prevalence of EDs. OBJECTIVE A cross-sectional study was conducted to map the prevalence of EDs and to assess its pattern among adults with T2D from Ahmedabad City, Gujarat, India. METHODOLOGY Two hundred fifty-four T2D individuals aged 30-60 were enrolled in the study. A questionnaire was developed using the Sick, Control, One, Fat, Food (SCOFF) questionnaire and a five-question screening tool intended to identify the possibility of EDs as well as the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDEQ), which is used to identify the pattern of EDs with subscales like Restraint, Eating Concern, Shape Concern, and Weight Concern. Written informed consent was obtained from all participants. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's Correlation, and Logistic Regression analysis were used. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS The results revealed that 90 (35%) of the total participants were at a high risk of EDs. Among these, 54 (21% of the total population) were males, and 36 (14% of total participants) were females. There was a mild statistically significant negative correlation between age and exercise with the presence of ED (r = -0.151, p = 0.016 and r = -0.186, p = 0.003, respectively), while education showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.150, p = 0.017). Males had significantly higher scores for eating concerns than females (19.75±4.88 vs 17.88±5.92; p = 0.008). The logistic regression model revealed that education was a significant predictor of EDs (OD = 1.47, 95% CI 1.00-2.16 and p = 0.04). CONCLUSION The study identified that people with T2D are at risk of EDs, and eating concerns worry them the most. Thus, counseling sessions should focus on identifying the determinants of EDs and educating the patients regarding quality eating. This will have implications in addressing the other morbidities as well as health risks related to BMI; especially obesity as it is more prevalent in the T2D population.

Abstract
PURPOSE Very few data exist on the association between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and eating disorders. The study aimed to evaluate the presence of binge eating disorder (BED), in MASLD subjects. METHODS Demographic, clinical investigation, anthropometric measurements and laboratory were collected in 129 patients with MASLD (34.1% males; age, 53.7 years; BMI, 34.4 kg/m2) addressed by general practitioners to a hospital-based unit of metabolic disorders. The risk of binge eating was tested by the binge eating scale (BES); values in the range 17-26 were considered "possible" BED, values > 26 were considered "probable" BED. Hepatic steatosis and fibrosis were tested by surrogate biomarkers and imaging (transient elastography). Calorie intake and lifestyle were self-assessed by questionnaires. RESULTS Possible BED was present in 17.8% of cases, probable BED in another 7.6%, and were neither associated with gender, obesity class, diabetes, features of metabolic syndrome, nor with presence and severity of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis. Also steatosis grade by CAP and fibrosis stage by liver stiffness did not correlate with BES. However, an association was present between the daily caloric intake and "possible" BED (odds ratio, 1.14; 95% confidence interval, 1.05-1.24; "probable" BED, 1.21; 1.07-1.37), after adjustment for confounders. CONCLUSION Binge eating, as scored by BES, is present in a significant proportion of MASLD cases screened for metabolic disorders in a specialized center. It may impact behavioral treatment, reducing the chance of weight loss without systematic psychological support. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level III, cohort analytic study.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the ORTO-R scores in individuals with T2DM and to investigate their effect on diabetes self-management. METHODS The study included 373 individuals with type 2 diabetes between the ages of 18-65 who applied to Akdeniz University Hospital Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Polyclinic between January and May 2022. A questionnaire including sociodemographic data, information about diabetes, and nutritional habits, and the ORTO-R and Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management Scales were used to collect data. Linear regression analysis was performed to determine the factors affecting ORTO-R. RESULTS The linear regression analysis showed that age, gender, education level, and duration of diabetes affected ORTO-R scores in patients with type 2 diabetes. Body mass index, comorbidities (cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases and hypertension), diabetes-related complications, diabetes treatment method and dieting had no significant contribution to the model (p > 0.05). We also found that education level, comorbidities, diabetes-related complications, diabetes treatment method, dieting, and BMI can affect diabetes self-management. CONCLUSION It should be kept in mind that type 2 diabetes are at risk of orthorexia nervosa (ON) in terms of various aspects such as age, gender, education level and duration of diabetes. Since the factors affecting the risk of ON and the factors affecting diabetes self-management are intertwined, orthorexic tendencies should be kept under control while trying to increase self-management in these patients. In this respect, developing individual recommendations according to the psychosocial characteristics of patients may be an effective approach. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level V, cross-sectional study.

Abstract
Dietary risk factors play a fundamental role in the prevention and progression of atherosclerosis and PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease). The impact of nutrition, however, defined as the process of taking in food and using it for growth, metabolism and repair, remains undefined with regard to PAD. This article describes the interplay between nutrition and the development/progression of PAD. We reviewed 688 articles, including key articles, narrative and systematic reviews, meta-analyses and clinical studies. We analyzed the interaction between nutrition and PAD predictors, and subsequently created four descriptive tables to summarize the relationship between PAD, dietary risk factors and outcomes. We comprehensively reviewed the role of well-studied diets (Mediterranean, vegetarian/vegan, low-carbohydrate ketogenic and intermittent fasting diet) and prevalent eating behaviors (emotional and binge eating, night eating and sleeping disorders, anorexia, bulimia, skipping meals, home cooking and fast/ultra-processed food consumption) on the traditional risk factors of PAD. Moreover, we analyzed the interplay between PAD and nutritional status, nutrients, dietary patterns and eating habits. Dietary patterns and eating disorders affect the development and progression of PAD, as well as its disabling complications including major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major adverse limb events (MALE). Nutrition and dietary risk factor modification are important targets to reduce the risk of PAD as well as the subsequent development of MACE and MALE.

Abstract
Purpose Dysfunctional eating is strongly associated with obesity and worsens type 2 diabetes (T2DM) outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the psycho-nutritional treatment (PNT) of “Centro DAI e Obesità” of Città della Pieve on weight loss and glucose management in dysfunctional eaters with obesity and T2DM. Methods PNT includes psychotherapeutical, nutritional, physical and social activities. Subjects with obesity, T2DM and dysfunctional eating habits who completed the 8 weeks residential program between 2010 and 2019 were compared with obese, T2DM, dysfunctional eaters who underwent to a conventional, hospital-based, nutritional treatment (CT). Anthropometric variables, glucolipid panel, and body composition were assessed at baseline and at the end of the program. Weight and HbA1c were also measured after one year from the completion. Results Sixty-nine patients completed the PNT and reduced weight (−7 ± 3.2%; p < 0.001), BMI (−7 ± 3.1%; p < 0.001), and triglycerides, AST, GGT and ALT (p ≤ 0.008); glycemic control improved (HbA1c: −1.1 ± 1.5%, mean fasting glucose: −41 ± 46 mg/dl, p < 0.001). Eleven% of subjects requiring diabetes medications at baseline discontinued the therapy. In the insulin treated group (49%), mean daily units were halved (−32.6 ± 26.0, p < 0.001). At one year, weight loss (−6 ± 7.4%, p < 0.001) and HbA1c reduction (−0.52 ± 1.4%, p = 0.029) persisted. Fifty-five patients completed the CT: HbA1c reduced (p = 0.02), but weight (−0.6 ± 3.7%), BMI (−0.7 ± 3.8%), and insulin units’ reduction (−2.5 ± 11.7, p = 0.20) were lower compared to the PNT. Conclusion PNT is effective in improving T2DM management in patients with obesity and dysfunctional eating.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with an increased risk of disordered eating behaviors including binge eating disorder (BED). Comorbid BED in patients with T2DM has been associated with adverse clinical outcomes such as higher body mass index (BMI) and depressive symptoms. Identifying and addressing this disorder in patients with T2DM is a significant challenge for health-care providers. The purpose of this narrative review is to discuss current perspectives on BED in the context of T2DM with implications for screening and management of these highly comorbid conditions. BED continues to be underrecognized and underdiagnosed. However, there are established tools that providers can use to screen for BED such as the SCOFF Questionnaire and Questionnaire on Eating and Weight Patterns-5. There are several effective treatments for BED including cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and lisdexamfetamine dimesylate. However, few studies have examined the effects of these treatments in patients with co-morbid T2DM and BED.
