Abstract
Humanitarian and health crisis have drastic effects on the physical and mental well-being of people. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many countries to impose containment measures on its population to halt the spread of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). This aim of this study was to explore self-reported sleep quality and insomnia symptoms in a sample of the Brazilian population before and during the COVID-19 quarantine period. Our data was collected through online questionnaires, including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Insomnia Severity Index, and the Sleep Hygiene Index. The final sample comprised 1,109 volunteers. Generalized estimating equations (GEE) revealed that during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, alterations in self-reported sleep parameters were observed in the participants. Sleep efficiency and sleep duration increased, but there was a worsening in sleep quality and an increase in symptoms related to insomnia.

Abstract
Aim: We aimed to single out admission predictors of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and investigate the role of bioelectrical impedance (BIA) measurements in ARDS development. Method: An observational, prospective cohort study was conducted on 407 consecutive COVID-19 patients hospitalized at the University Clinical Center Kragujevac between September 2021 and March 2022. Patients were followed during the hospitalization, and ARDS was observed as a primary endpoint. Body composition was assessed using the BMI, body fat percentage (BF%), and visceral fat (VF) via BIA. Within 24 h of admission, patients were sampled for blood gas and laboratory analysis. Results: Patients with BMI above 30 kg/m2, very high BF%, and/or very high VF levels were at a significantly higher risk of developing ARDS compared to nonobese patients (OR: 4.568, 8.892, and 2.448, respectively). In addition, after performing multiple regression analysis, six admission predictors of ARDS were singled out: (1) very high BF (aOR 8.059), (2) SaO2 < 87.5 (aOR 5.120), (3) IL-6 > 59.75 (aOR 4.089), (4) low lymphocyte count (aOR 2.880), (5) female sex (aOR 2.290), and (6) age < 68.5 (aOR 1.976). Conclusion: Obesity is an important risk factor for the clinical deterioration of hospitalized COVID-19 patients. BF%, assessed through BIA measuring, was the strongest independent predictor of ARDS in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Considering the limitations of the assays currently available for the detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its emerging variants, a simple and rapid method using fluorescence spectrophotometry was developed to detect coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Forty clinical swab samples were collected from the nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal cavities of COVID-19-positive and -negative. Each sample was divided into two parts. The first part of the samples was analyzed using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) as the control method to identify COVID-19-positive and -negative samples. The second part of the samples was analyzed using fluorescence spectrophotometry. Fluorescence measurements were performed at excitation and emission wavelengths ranging from 200 to 800 nm. Twenty COVID-19-positive samples and twenty COVID-19-negative samples were detected based on RT-qPCR results. The fluorescence spectrum data indicated that the COVID-19-positive and -negative samples had significantly different characteristics. All positive samples could be distinguished from negative samples by fluorescence spectrophotometry. Principal component analysis showed that COVID-19-positive samples were clustered separately from COVID-19-negative samples. The specificity and accuracy of this experiment reached 100%. Limit of detection (LOD) obtained 42.20 copies/ml (Ct value of 33.65 cycles) for E gene and 63.60 copies/ml (Ct value of 31.36 cycles) for ORF1ab gene. This identification process only required 4 min. Thus, this technique offers an efficient and accurate method to identify an individual with active SARS-CoV-2 infection and can be easily adapted for the early investigation of COVID-19, in general.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible correlations between sleep, physical activity, and diet in the general population of Greece during the second lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. A web-based questionnaire including 28 items was completed by 494 adults (age 31.5 ± 12.4 years). Half of the participants (49.8%) reported good, 44.1% moderate, and 6.1% bad quality of sleep, whereas 17.2% answered that the quality of sleep improved, 56.5% did not change, and 26.3% worsened compared to a normal week. Compared to normal, sleep duration in lockdown increased by 0.24 h (95% CI; 0.13, 0.35; p < 0.001, d = 0.198). More under-weight (32.4%) and obese (34.1%) respondents reported worsened quality of sleep in lockdown compared with normal (25.6%) and overweight participants (22.7%) (p = 0.006, Cramer's φ = 0.191). A small effect for BMI group on sleep duration was observed (p = 0.011, η2 = 0.023), where overweight and obese slept less (-0.44 h and -0.66 h, respectively) than normal weight participants. Subjects with the highest percentage of increased food consumption reported decreased sleep duration (p = 0.012) and worsened sleep quality (p = 0.003). Compared with a normal week, physical activity of a high and moderate intensity decreased for 43.0% and 37.0% of participants, did not change in 32.9% and 36.1% of participants, and increased in 24.1% 26.9%, respectively, whereas walking time decreased in 31.3%, did not change in 27.3%, and increased in 41.5% of participants. Increased high and moderate intensity physical activity was related with an improvement in sleep quality (p < 0.001). Those with decreasing walking time reported the highest percentage of decreased sleep quality (p = 0.006) and worsened sleep quality (p = 0.016). In conclusion, both quality and quantity of sleep were impaired during the second lockdown and the observed changes were associated with diet and physical activity.
