Three new polynuclear tetracarboxylato-bridged copper(II) complexes: Syntheses, X-ray structure and magnetic properties

The Formation of a Unique 2D Isonicotinate Polymer Driven by Cu(II) Aerobic Oxidation

The isolation and structural characterization of a unique Cu(II) isonicotinate (ina) material with 4-acetylpyridine (4-acpy) is provided. The formation of [Cu(ina)₂(4-acpy)]_n (1) is triggered by the Cu(II) aerobic oxidation of 4-acpy using O₂. This gradual formation of ina led to its restrained incorporation and hindered the full displacement of 4-acpy. As a result, 1 is the first example of a 2D layer assembled by an ina ligand capped by a monodentate pyridine ligand. The Cu(II)-mediated aerobic oxidation with O₂ was previously demonstrated for aryl methyl ketones, but we extend the applicability of this methodology to heteroaromatic rings, which has not been tested so far. The formation of ina has been identified by ¹H NMR, thus demonstrating the feasible but strained formation of ina from 4-acpy in the mild conditions from which 1 was obtained.

Synthesis, crystal structures and fluorescence properties of two 1D Zn(II) homologous coordination polymers

A pair of zinc(II)-based one-dimensional (1D) homologous coordination polymers, [Zn(Hdba)2(bib)] n (1) and [Zn(Hdba)2(bmib)] n (2), where H2dba = 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, bib = 1,4-bis(1-imidazolyl)benzene, and bmib = 1,4-bis(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized through infrared spectroscopy (IR), elemental and thermal analysis (EA), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analyses. The results revealed that 1 and 2 have the same zigzag infinite chain framework through the partially deprotonated Hdba– monodentate linkage and with μ 2-bib bridging the Zn(II) atoms in 1, and with μ 2-bmib bridges for the Zn(II) atoms in 2. For both 1 and 2, each zinc atom has a slightly twisted tetrahedral configuration with a N2O2 donor set. These chains of 1 and 2 are further connected into three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structures through O–H···O, C–H···O hydrogen bonds and π···π, C–H···π stacking interactions for 1, and O–H···O, C–H···O hydrogen bonds for 2. Topologically, the 3D hydrogen-bonded organic framework or the 2D π-stacking structure of 1 can be simplified as a 4-connected dia Diamond type with a Schläfli symbol {66}, or as a 4-connected sql type with a Schläfli symbol {44·62} and a Shubnikov tetragonal plane net. The thermal stability and the solid-state fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated.

Synthesis, structure, magnetic properties and EPR spectroscopy of a copper(ii) coordination polymer with a ditopic hydrazone ligand and acetate bridges

The synthesis, structure, EPR spectroscopy and magnetic properties of a 1D coordination polymer of Cu(ii) containing two kinds of acetate bridged dimers is reported.

The synthesis, spectroscopy and X-ray single crystal structure of catena-[(μ-anacardato)-copper(II)bipyridine][Cu2{(μ-O2CC6H3(o-OH)(o-C15H31)}4(NC5H5)2]

Hydrogenation of crude anacardic acid gave a transparent crystalline product on recrystallization. When reacted with copper nitrate in the presence of pyridine it produced green crystals of a pyridine adduct of a dimeric copper(II) anacardate with the copper acetate structure. The X-ray single crystal structures of both anacardic acid and the copper complex were determined. Magnetic studies have confirmed strong antiferromagnetic coupling between copper(II) centre in the dimer. The exchange coupling constant was determined to be J = -324 cm(-1). The EPR spectra of the polycrystalline product are consistent with spin S = 1. The zero-field splitting parameter and g tensor values are |D| = 0.36 cm(-1), g(||) = 2.36 and g(⊥) = 2.06.

Synthesis and characterization of new heterometallic cyanido complexes based on [Co(CN)6]3− building blocks: crystal structure of [Cu2(N-bishydeten)2Co(CN)6]·3H2O having a strong antiferromagnetic exchange

The hexacyanidocobalt(iii)-based four new coordination compounds have been synthesized and characterized by various techniques. The polymeric C2 having 148.3 ų lattice spacing among these complexes have shown very strong antiferromagnetic interaction.

Supramolecular architecture of metal-organic frameworks involving dinuclear copper paddle-wheel complexes

The two centrosymmetric dinuclear copper paddle-wheel complexes tetrakis(μ-4-hydroxybenzoato-κ(2)O:O')bis[aquacopper(II)] dimethylformamide disolvate dihydrate, [Cu2(C7H5O3)4(H2O)2]·2C3H7NO·2H2O, (I), and tetrakis(μ-4-methoxybenzoato-κ(2)O:O')bis[(dimethylformamide-κO)copper(II)], [Cu2(C8H7O3)4(C3H7NO)2], (II), crystallize with half of the dinuclear paddle-wheel cage unit in the asymmetric unit and, in addition, complex (I) has one dimethylformamide (DMF) and one water solvent molecule in the asymmetric unit. In both (I) and (II), two Cu(II) ions are bridged by four syn,syn-η(1):η(1):μ carboxylate groups, showing a paddle-wheel cage-type structure with a square-pyramidal coordination geometry. The equatorial positions of (I) and (II) are occupied by the carboxylate groups of 4-hydroxy- and 4-methoxybenzoate ligands, and the axial positions are occupied by aqua and DMF ligands, respectively. The three-dimensional supramolecular metal-organic framework of (I) consists of three different R2(2)(20) and an R4(4)(36) ring motif formed via O-H···O and OW-HW···O hydrogen bonds. Complex (II) simply packs as molecular species.

Synthesis, characterization and X-ray structural studies of four copper (II) complexes containing dinuclear paddle wheel structures

Background

Various dinuclear copper (II) complexes with octahedral geometry have been reported. The majority of these complexes contain N containing aromatic rings as axial ligands. There are also a few cases where the solvent used in the reaction occupies the axial position of the dinuclear copper (II) complex. This may occur by planned synthesis or some times by serendipity. Here we report some four copper (II) complexes containing solvent and or N containing heterocyclic ring as the axial ligand.

Results

Four compounds, each containing dinuclear Copper (II) units (with the most robust, frequently occurring paddle wheel structures) were synthesized and characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction and by IR spectroscopy. The compounds 1 & 2 have the general formula Cu₂(RCOO) ₄(L)₂ [(for (1) RCOO= 4-Chloro Benzoate, L= Isopropanol; for 2 RCOO= Benzoate, L= 2-Amino-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine )] while 3 & 4 have the general formula, Cu₂(RCOO) ₄(S)₂ Cu₂(RCOO) ₄(L)₂ [RCOO=5-Chloro-thiophene-2-carboxylate L= 2-Amino-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine, for 3 S= ethanol; for 4 S= methanol ]. A wide range of hydrogen bonds (of the O-H…O, N-H…O and N-H…N type) and π-π stacking interactions are present in the crystal structures.

Conclusions

All compounds contain the dinuclear units, in which two Cu (II) ions are bridged by four syn, syn-η¹:η¹:μ carboxylates, showing a paddle-wheel cage type with a distorted octahedral geometry. The compounds 1 &2 contain a single dimeric unit while 3 &4 contain two dimeric units. The structures 3 and 4 are very interesting co-crystals of two paddle wheel molecules. Also it is interesting to note that the compounds 3 &4 are isostructural with similar cell parameters. Both the compounds 3 &4 differ in the solvent molecule coordinated to copper in one of the dimeric units. In all the four compounds, each of the copper dimers has an inversion centre. Every copper has a distorted octahedral centre, formed by four oxygen atoms (from different carboxylate) in the equatorial sites. The two axial positions are occupied by copper and the corresponding ligand.
