Abstract
Despite the availability of several vaccines against multiple disease-causing strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, the rise of antimicrobial resistance and pneumococcal disease caused by strains not covered by the vaccine creates a need for developing novel antimicrobial strategies. N,N-dimethyldithiocarbamate (DMDC) was found to be a potent copper-dependent antimicrobial against several pathogens, including S. pneumoniae. Here, DMDCs efficacy against Streptococcal pathogens Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Streptococcus anginosus was tested using bactericidal and inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry. After confirming DMDC as broad-spectrum streptococcal antimicrobial, DMDC was derivatized into five compounds. The derivatives' effectiveness as copper chelators using DsRed2 and as copper-dependent antimicrobials against S. pneumoniae TIGR4 and tested in bactericidal and animal models. Two compounds, sodium N-benzyl-N-methyldithiocarbamate and sodium N-allyl-N-methyldithiocarbamate (herein "Compound 3" and "Compound 4"), were effective against TIGR4 and further, D39 and ATCC® 6303™ _(a type 3 capsular strain). Both Compound 3 and 4 increased the pneumococcal internal concentrations of copper to the same previously reported levels as with DMDC and copper treatment. However, in an in vivo murine pneumonia model, Compound 3, but not Compound 4, was effective in significantly decreasing the bacterial burden in the blood and lungs of S. pneumoniae-infected mice. These derivatives also had detrimental effects on the other streptococcal species. Collectively, derivatizing DMDC holds promise as potent bactericidal antibiotics against relevant streptococcal pathogens.

Abstract
Owing to its fascinating properties (such as high theoretical specific capacity and considerable conductivity), nickel sulfide (NiS) was investigated comprehensively as an anode material in sodium-ion batteries. However, they still suffered from volume expansion and sluggish kinetics, resulting in serious cycle capabilities. Herein, through controlling the kind of molten salts (Na2SO4, NaCl, and Na2CO3) in salt melt synthesis (SMS), a series of NiS with an N, S-codoped carbon layer was successfully prepared, accompanied with different morphologies and structures (earthworm-like belts and triangular and spherical particles). Tailored by the ionic strength and viscosity of molten salts, the as-prepared samples displayed different crystallization behaviors, bringing about a difference in electrochemical performance. As earthworm-like NiS@C was explored as an anode material for SIBs, an initial capacity of 712.5 mAh g-1 at 0.5 A g-1 could be obtained, and it still kept 527.4 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles. Even at 2.0 A g-1, a capacity of 508.6 mAh g-1 could be achieved. Meanwhile, with the assistance of detailed kinetic analysis, the rapid diffusion behaviors of Na+ and redox reaction mechanisms of as-fabricated samples were proven for the enhanced electrochemical properties. Given this, this work is expected to provide a method for designing the morphology and structure of metal sulfides, while shedding light on the orientation of fabricating advanced electrode materials for SIBs.

Abstract
Dithiocarbamates are considered as an important motif owing to its extensive biological applications in medicinal chemistry. The synthesis of this framework can easily be achieved via a one-pot reaction of primary/secondary amines, CS2, and alkyl halides under catalyst-free conditions or sometimes in the presence of a base. By virtue of its colossal pharmacological scope, it has been an evolving subject of interest for many researchers around the world. The present review aims to highlight various synthetic approaches for dithiocarbamates with the major emphasis on medicinal attributes of these architectures as leads in the drug discovery of small molecules such as HDAC inhibitor, lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) down-regulator, kinase inhibitor (focal adhesion kinase, pyruvate kinase, Bruton's tyrosine kinase), carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, DNA intercalators, and apoptosis-inducing agents. Moreover, recent medicinal advancements in the synthesis of dithiocarbamate derivatives as anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-Alzheimer, antitubercular, anti-glaucoma, anti-cholinergic, antihyperglycemic, anti-inflammatory activities have been elaborated with notable examples.

Abstract
A series of N-trifluoroacetyl-2-pyrazolines have been synthesized via cyclization of chalcones in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid and hydrazine as a base. The method used for the preparation of pyrazolines was found to be an efficient one as all of the compounds were obtained in good yield (up to 79%). Various spectroscopic techniques established the structures and additionally corroborated the compounds 2a and 2e by single crystal X-ray. Newly synthesized pyrazolines were investigated for their potential as antimicrobial agents. Compound 2a displayed promising antimicrobial activity against pathogenic Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Furthermore, the mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of 2a was demonstrated with the help of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which revealed complete damage of the bacterial cell membrane, providing dead cell debris in the milieu. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) observed was 79 and 90 µM against E. coli and P. aeruginosa, respectively. Hence, these compounds might be significantly useful in antimicrobial drug development.

Abstract
In order to increase the adsorption properties of sodium alginate gel beads, a series of SA@PF-beads (sodium alginate-based beads with different amount of pore-forming agent) were prepared with calcium carbonate as the pore forming agent. The experimental results showed that the adsorption capacity of Cu(Ⅱ) increased by at least two times (from 13.69 mg/g to 33.88 mg/g, treated with SA@PF-0 and SA@PF-2.0, respectively) with proper amount of calcium carbonate added, which is economical and effective. In the experiment, SEM was used to measure the morphology of gel beads with different amount of pore-forming agent. FTIR and XPS were used to analyze the variation of functional groups and bond energies in the adsorption process. Adsorption isotherms and kinetics were conducted and showed that the adsorption process was consistent with Langmuir model and Elovich kinetic model. The maximum Langmuir adsorption 229.746 mg/g. The effects of pH, temperature and solid-liquid ratio on adsorption capacity were also investigated. In brief, calcium carbonate is an efficient and convenient pore-forming agent, which can be used to improve the adsorption properties of alginate gel materials.

Abstract
We present the variable-pressure d-d luminescence spectra of crystalline bis-dimethyldithiocarbamate palladium(ii) and its deuterated analog. The energies and shifts of the band maxima provide evidence for intermolecular PdH-C interactions, with quantitative differences observed for the deuterated complex. Shifts show distinct interactions in three pressure ranges between 1 bar and 85 kbar.

Abstract
Seven complexes of a new dithiocarbamate ligand (ftpedtc = (furan-2-yl)methyl(2-(thiophen-2-yl)ethyl)dithiocarbamate) namely [Ni(ftpedtc)2] (1), [Ni(ftpedtc)(NCS)(PPh3)] (2), [Ni(ftpedtc)(PPh3)2]ClO4 (3), [Zn(ftpedtc)2] (4), [Zn(ftpedtc)2(py)] (5), [Zn(ftpedtc)2(1,10-phen)] (6) and [Zn(ftpedtc)2(2,2'-bipy] (7) have been prepared. The complexes were characterized by IR, UV-Vis and NMR ((1)H and (13)C) spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray structural analysis was carried out for complexes 5 and [Zn(ftpedtc)Cl(1,10-phen)] (8). Electronic spectral studies suggest square planar geometry for nickel complexes. The (13)C NMR peaks of the group N(13)CS2 are found in all the cases, at around 205.0 ppm, which indicates the bidentate character of the dithiocarbamate ligand. X-ray structures of 5 and 8 show bidentate coordination by dithiocarbamate ligands and a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry for zinc, defined by NS4 and ClN2S2 donor sets, respectively. The packing in 8 involves π-π stacking interactions involving the 1,10-phenanthroline ring systems with the distance between ring centroids being 3.587 Å.

Abstract
The interaction of a water-soluble dinuclear nickel(II) complex, [Ni2(EGTB)(CH3CN)4](ClO4)4·4H2O (EGTB = ethylene glycol-bis(β-aminoethyl ether) N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-benzimidazoyl)) (1), and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated under physiological conditions using fluorescence, synchronous fluorescence, UV-vis absorption and circular dichroism (CD). The experimental results suggested that the nickel(II) complex could bind to BSA with binding constant (K) ~ 10(4) M(-1) and quench the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA through a static quenching mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters, ΔG°, ΔH°, and ΔS°, calculated at different temperatures, indicated that the binding reaction was spontaneous and electrostatic interactions played a major role in this association. Based on the number of binding sites, it was considered that one molecule of complex 1 could bind to a single site or two sites of the BSA molecule or the two binding modes coexisted. In view of the results of site marker competition experiments, the reactive sites of BSA to complex 1 mainly located in subdomain IIA (site I) and subdomain IIIA (site II) of BSA. Moreover, the binding distance, r, between donor (BSA) and acceptor (complex 1) was 5.13 nm according to Förster nonradiation energy transfer theory. Finally, as shown by the UV-vis absorption, synchronous fluorescence and CD, complex 1 could induce conformation and microenvironmental changes of BSA. The results obtained herein will be of biological significance in toxicology investigation and anticancer metallodrug design.

Abstract
Abstract
Two new Ag(I)-saccharinate complexes, K[Ag(sac)2] · H2O (1) and [Ag(sac)(ina)] · 1.5 H2O (2) (sac = saccharinate and ina = isonicotinamide), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The silver atoms adopt a linear AgN2 geometry in each case defined by two sac ligands in 1, and one sac and one ina ligand in 2. In 1, the anionic complex units are linked into a two-dimensional array by two potassium atoms, forming an eight-membered bimetallic ring and a K2O10 potassium−oxygen cluster. Complex 2 shows rare (O—H) ··· Ag and (N—H) ··· Ag interactions. The molecules are connected by Ag ··· Csac (η3) interactions involväing the saccharinate-phenyl rings.
