Abstract
Two new transition metal complexes with 1-methylimidazole (1-MeIm) and azide as ligands, namely, [Co(1-MeIm)4(N3)2] (1) and [Ni(1-MeIm)4(N3)2] (2), have been synthesized and characterized by IR, Raman, UV-Vis and XPS spectroscopy. Their crystal structures were solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The supramolecular self-assembly of the two complexes is governed by non-classical C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π interactions. Lattice energies and intermolecular interaction energies for various molecular pairs are quantified using the PIXEL method. DFT computational studies to assess the binding energy through modern tools like non-covalent interaction (NCI plots) analysis and reduced density gradient (RDG) analysis have also been carried out. A detailed analysis of geometric descriptors revealed the existence of quasi-isostructural pairs or 'main-part' isostructuralism in a series formed by 1, 2, and a related cadmium complex, being more evident in the 1/2 pair. DFT studies using theoretical models have been used to disclose the relative importance of the H-bond and C-H⋯π noncovalent interactions. Magnetic measurements for compound 1 show weak ferrimagnetic coupling between adjacent M(II) centers, mediated by H-bonding and C-H⋯π non-covalent interactions.

Abstract
Reinvestigation of (o-benzoquinonedioximate)2Ni/I2 systems demonstrated that the reaction itself and also the crystallization conditions dramatically affect the identity of generated species. Crystallization (CHCl3, 20-25 °C) of the nickel(II) dioximate complex [Ni(bqoxH)2] (bqoxH2 = o-benzoquinonedioxime) with I2 in the 1:(1-10) molar ratios of the reactants led to several (o-benzoquinonedioximate)2Ni derivatives and/or iodine adducts [Ni(I)(bqoxH)(bqoxH2)]·3/2I2, [Ni(I3)(bqoxH)(bqoxH2)]·[Ni(bqoxH)2], and [Ni(I3)(bqox•-)(bqoxH2)]·I2; the latter one, featuring the anion-radical bqox•- ligand, is derived from the formal (-2H+/1e-)-oxidation of bqoxH2. In these three adducts, various types of noncovalent interactions were identified experimentally and their existence was supported theoretically. The [Ni(I3)(bqox•-)(bqoxH2)]·I2 adduct exhibits simultaneous semicoordination and coordination patterns of the triiodide ligand; this is the first recognition of the semicoordination of any polyiodide ligand to a metal center. The semicoordination noncovalent contact Ni···I3 (3.7011(10) Å) is substantially longer that the Ni-I3 coordination bond (2.8476(9) Å), and the difference in energies between these two types of linkages is 8-12 kcal/mol.

Abstract
Raman spectra of bis(l-histidinate)nickel(II) monohydrate crystal were obtained for pressures up to 9.5GPa. Our results show the disappearance of some of the Raman modes and the appearance of other modes. These modifications evidence that the sample undergoes phase transitions at around 0.8 and 3.2GPa. The role played by the Ni ions and hydrogen bonds in the dynamics of the phase transitions is discussed. Under decompression, down to atmospheric pressure, the original Raman spectra are recovered, showing that both phase transitions are fully reversible.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study is an extension to our finding of direct anti-oxidant activities of lanthanide(III) complexes with the heterocyclic compound, 5-aminoorotic acid (AOA). In this experiment, we used AOA and coumarin-3-carboxylic acid as the two heterocyclic compounds with anti-oxidant potential, to produce the complexes with different lanthanides. METHODS Lanthanide(III) complexes were tested on the iron-driven Fenton reaction. The product of this reaction, the hydroxyl radical, was detected by HPLC. RESULTS All complexes as well as their ligands had positive or neutral effect on the Fenton reaction but their behavior was different. Both pure ligands in low concentration ratio to iron were inefficient in contrast to some of their complexes. Complexes of neodymium, samarium, gadolinium, and partly of cerium blocked the Fenton reaction at very low ratios (in relation to iron) but the effect disappeared at higher ratios. In contrast, lanthanum complexes appeared to be the most promising. Both blocked the Fenton reaction in a dose-dependent manner. CONCLUSION Lanthanide(III) complexes were proven to block the iron-driven production of the hydroxyl radical. Second, the lanthanide(III) element appears to be crucial for the anti-oxidant effect. Overall, lanthanum complexes may be promising direct anti-oxidants for future testing.

Abstract
FT-Raman and FT-IR studies of the biomolecule 5-fluoroorotic acid in the solid state were carried out. The unit cell found in the crystal was simulated as a tetramer form by density functional calculations. They were performed to clarify wavenumber assignments of the experimental observed bands in the spectra. Correlations with the molecule of uracil were made, and specific scale equations were employed to scale the wavenumbers of 5-fluoroorotic acid. Good reproduction of the experimental wavenumbers is obtained and the % error is very small in the majority of the bands. This fact confirms our simplified solid state model. The molecular structure was fully optimized using DFT and MP2 methods. The relative stability of both the syn and anti conformations was investigated, and the anti-form was found to be slightly more stable, by 7.49 kJ/mol at the MP2 level. The structures of all possible tautomeric forms were determined. The keto-form appeared as the most stable one. The NBO atomic charges and several thermodynamic parameters were also calculated.
