Synthesis, characterization and structures of copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II) and cadmium(II) complexes involving N4-donor ligand and cyanate as coligand: Formation of 1D and 2D crystallographic networks by short intermolecular interactions

Synthesis, the Reversible Isostructural Phase Transition, and the Dielectric Properties of a Functional Material Based on an Aminobenzimidazole-Iron Thiocyanate Complex

By introducing disordered molecules into a crystal structure, the motion of the disordered molecules easily induces the formation of multidimensional frameworks in functional crystal materials, allowing for structural phase transitions and the realization of various dielectric properties within a certain temperature range. Here, we prepared a novel ionic complex [C7H8N3]3[Fe(NCS)6]·H2O (1) between 2-aminobenzimidazole and ferric isothiocyanate from ferric chloride hexahydrate, ammonium thiocyanate, and 2-aminobenzimidazole using the evaporation of the solvent method. The main components, the single-crystal structure, and the thermal and dielectric properties of the complex were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder XRD, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, variable-temperature and variable-frequency dielectric constant tests, etc. The analysis results indicated that compound 1 belongs to the P21/n space group. Within the crystal structure, the [Fe(NCS)6]3- anion formed a two-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network with the organic cation through S···S interactions and hydrogen bonding. The disorder-order motion of the anions and cations within the crystal and the deformation of the crystal frameworks lead to a significant reversible isostructural phase transition and multiaxial dielectric anomalies of compound 1 at approximately 240 K.

Three Oxidation States of Cobalt(I/II/III) Complexes by Thiaporphyrin

Reaction of tetraphenyl-21-thiaporphyrin (HSTPP) with cobalt salt yields a pentacoordinated high-spin 3/2 [CoIICl(STTP)] (1). Through ion exchange, a roughly square-planar-geometry low-spin 1/2 CoIISTTP(BArF24) (2) complex was isolated. These two paramagnetic precursors were examined by single X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance, superconducting quantum interference device, and density functional theory calculations. These two allowed the development of one electron reduction and oxidation to give [CoI(STTP)] (3), [CoIII(STTP)Cl(CH3CN)](BF4) (4), and [CoIII(STTP)Cl2] (5). The products of the chemical redox reactions were isolated and fully characterized. In addition, the reactivity of [CoIICl(STTP)] (1) was examined by azide (N3), cyanate (OCN), and thiocyanate (SCN) and featured a preferential N-coordination to the cobalt metal.

Recent advances in the chemistry of the phosphaethynolate and arsaethynolate anions

Over the past decade, the reactivity of 2-phosphaethynolate (OCP^-), a heavier analogue of the cyanate anion, has been the subject of momentous interest in the field of modern organometallic chemistry. It is used as a precursor to novel phosphorus-containing heterocycles and as a ligand in decarbonylative processes, serving as a synthetic equivalent of a phosphinidene derivative. This perspective aims to describe advances in the reactivities of phosphaethynolate and arsaethynolate anions (OCE^-; E = P, As) with main-group element, transition metal, and f-block metal scaffolds. Further, the unique structures and bonding properties are discussed based on spectroscopic and theoretical studies.

Magneto-structural diversity of Co(ii) compounds with 1-benzylimidazole induced by linear pseudohalide coligands

The influence of pseudohalide ligands on the SIM behaviour of four-coordinate benzylimidazole-containing cobalt(ii) complexes

Three, mononuclear complexes of the formula [Co(bmim)2(SCN)2] (1), [Co(bmim)2(NCO)2] (2) and [Co(bmim)2(N3)2] (3) [bmim = 1-benzyl-2-methylimidazole] were prepared and structurally analyzed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The cobalt(ii) ions in 1-3 are tetrahedrally coordinated with two bmim molecules and two pseudohalide anions. The angular distortion parameter δ was calculated and the SHAPE program (based on the CShM concept) was used for 1-3 to estimate the angular distortion from an ideal tetrahedron. The molecules of 1-3 are effectively separated, and the values of the shortest distance of cobalt-cobalt are 8.442(6) and 6.774(8) Å for 1, 10.349(8) and 10.716(8) Å for 2 and 6.778(1) and 9.232(1) Å for 3. Direct current (dc) magnetic susceptibility measurements on the crushed crystals of 1-3 were carried out in the temperature range 1.9-295 K. The variable-temperature magnetic data of 1-3 mainly obey the zero-field splitting effect (D) of the 4A2 ground term of the tetrahedral cobalt(ii) complexes (2D being the energy gap between the |±1/2 and |±3/2 levels of the spin). The analysis of their magnetic data through the Hamiltonian H = D[S2z - S(S + 1)/3] + E(Sx2 - Sy2) + gβHS led to the following best-fit parameters: g = 2.29, D = -7.5 cm-1 and E/D = 0.106 (1), g = 2.28, D = + 6.3 cm-1 and E/D = 0.007 (2) and g = 2.36, D = + 6.7 cm-1 and E/D = 0.090 (3). The signs of D for 1-3 were confirmed by Q-band EPR spectra on powdered samples in the temperature range 4.0-20 K. Field-induced SIM behaviour was observed for 1-3 below 4.0 K, and the frequency-dependent maxima of χ''M were observed for 1 and only incipient signals of χ''M occurred for 2 and 3. The values of the exponential factor (τ0) and activation energy (Ea) for 1-3 which were obtained from the Arrhenius plot suggest a single relaxation process characteristic of an Orbach mechanism.
