Structural, spectral and theoretical aspects in the coordination of a triazine-based ligand toward lead(II) with a holodirected environment

1,2,4-triazine derived binuclear lead(ii) complexes: synthesis, spectroscopic and structural investigations and application in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs)

Two novel binuclear complexes of Pb(ii) were synthesized by reacting a 3-(2-pyridyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,2,4-triazine (PMPT) ligand with different anionic co-ligands (1: bromide, 2: acetate and isothiocyanate) in a 1 : 1 molar ratio of PMPT ligands to lead(ii) salts. The complexes, [Pb2(μ-PMPT)2Br4] (1) and [Pb2(μ-PMPT)2((μ-CH3COO)2(NCS)2] (2), were characterized using various physicochemical techniques such as CHN analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, their structures were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Based on the obtained structural parameters, complex 1 exhibited a PbN3Br2 environment, while complex 2 displayed a PbN4O3 environment, with holodirected and hemidirected coordination spheres, respectively. Within the crystal network of the complexes, there were interactions involving C-H⋯X (X: O, S, N) as well as π-π stacking. The Pb(ii) complexes were further investigated for their potential use as the emitting layer in organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). The current-voltage and luminescence-voltage characteristics, as well as the electroluminescence (EL) properties of the complexes, were studied.

Transformation of the coordination nanostructures of 4,4',4''-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl) tribenzoic acid molecules on HOPG triggered by the change in the concentration of metal ions

The modulation effects of Cu2+/Fe3+ ions on the hydrogen-bonded structure of 4,4',4''-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl) tribenzoic acid (TATB) on a HOPG surface have been investigated at the liquid-solid interface by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). STM observations directly demonstrated that the self-assembled honeycomb network of TATB has been dramatically transformed after introducing CuCl2/FeCl3 with different concentrations. The metal-organic coordination structures are formed due to the incorporation of the Cu2+/Fe3+ ions. Interestingly, a Cu2+ ion remains coordinated to two COOH groups and only the number of COOH groups involved in coordination doubles when the concentration of Cu2+ ions doubled. A Fe3+ ion changes from coordination to three COOH groups to two COOH groups after increasing the concentration of Fe3+ ions in a mixed solution. Such results suggest that the self-assembled structures of TATB molecules formed by metal-ligand coordination bonds can be effectively adjusted by regulating the concentration of metal ions in a mixed solution, which has rarely been reported before. It explains that the regulatory effect of concentration leads to the diversity of molecular architectures dominated by coordination bonds.

A binuclear Cd(II) complex containing bridging pyrimidine-based ligands

In this work, a pyrimidine-based ligand, N′-(amino(pyrimidin-2-yl)methylene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydrazonamide hydrate (APPH · H2O), and its binuclear complex of cadmium, [Cd(μ-APPH)Br]2, 1, were prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray structure analysis of 1 revealed octahedrally coordinated cadmium centers with a CdN4Br2 environment containing two bridging APPH ligands; each APPH ligand acts as an N4-donor (N2-donor toward each cadmium atom) and forms two five-membered chelate rings that are approximately perpendicular to each other. In the network of 1, the N–H · · · Br hydrogen bonds form motifs such as R 2 2 ( 12 ,   14 ) ,  R 6 6 ( 24 ,   26 ,   … ,   46 ) . ${\rm{R}}_{\rm{2}}^{\rm{2}}(12,{\rm{ }}14),{\rm{ R}}_{\rm{6}}^{\rm{6}}(24,{\rm{ }}26,{\rm{ }} \ldots ,{\rm{ }}46).$ The crystal network is further stabilized by π-π stacking interactions between pyrimidine rings. The optimized structures of the ligand and complex were investigated along with their charge distribution patterns by density functional theory and natural bond orbital analysis, respectively.

Coordination of a triazine ligand with CuII and AgI investigated by spectral, structural, theoretical and docking studies

Two complexes of 5-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine (PPTA), namely (ethanol-κO)bis(nitrato-κO)[5-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)-1,2,4-triazine-κN²]copper(II), [Cu(NO₃)₂(C₁₄H₁₀N₄)(C₂H₆O)] or [Cu(NO₃)₂(PPTA)(EtOH)] (1), and bis[μ-5-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine]-κ³N¹:N²,N³;κ³N²,N³:N¹-bis[(nitrato-κO)silver(I)], [Ag₂(NO₃)₂(C₁₄H₁₀N₄)₂] or [Ag₂(NO₃)₂(μ-PPTA)₂] (2), were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray structure analysis of 1 revealed a copper complex with square-pyramdial geometry containing two O-donor nitrate ligands along with an N,N'-donor PPTA ligand and one O-donor ethanol ligand. In the binuclear structure of 2, formed by the bridging of two PPTA ligands, each Ag atom has an AgN₃O environment and square-planar geometry. In addition to the four dative interactions, each Ag atom interacts with two O atoms of two nitrate ligands on adjacent complexes to complete a pseudo-octahedral geometry. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the geometry around the Cu and Ag atoms in 1^opt and 2^opt (opt is optimized) for an isolated molecule is the same as the experimental results. In 1, O-H...O hydrogen bonds form R₁²(4) motifs. In the crystal network of the complexes, in addition to the hydrogen bonds, there are π-π stacking interactions between the aromatic rings (phenyl, pyridine and triazine) of the ligands on adjacent complexes. The ability of the ligand and complexes 1 and 2 to interact with ten selected biomacromolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS, Top II and B-DNA) was investigated by docking studies. The results show that the studied compounds can interact with proteins better than doxorubicin (except for TrxR and Top II).

2D-Coordination polymer containing lead(II) in a hemidirected PbO4S3 environment formed by molecular breaking of the 1,3-oxathiolane ligand

A new 1,3-oxathiolane-based ligand, 2-(1,3-oxathiolan-2-yl)pyridine, was prepared and its coordination to lead(II) was investigated. Experiments revealed a ligand-breaking reaction during the complexation process, which leads to the formation of a 2D-coordination polymer of lead(II), [Pb(μ 3-HME)(μ-OAc)] n ; H2ME: 2-mercaptoethanol. The compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis revealed a 2D-coordination polymer extending via acetato bridges. The lead(II) center adopts a rare PbO4S3-distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry with a hemidirected arrangement. Upon coordination, the thiol group of the H2ME ligand is deprotonated to coordinate as an anionic ligand. The network extends in sheets in the crystallographic ab plane via Pb–S–Pb and Pb–O–Pb bridges, aided by O–H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Spectral, structural and theoretical study of the effects of thiocyanato and dicyanamido ligands on the geometry of PbII complexes containing a triazinic ligand

Two lead(II) complexes of 5,6-bis(furan-2-yl)-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine (DFPT), namely one-dimensional (1D) catena-poly[[bis[5,6-bis(furan-2-yl)-3-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)-1,2,4-triazine-κN²]lead(II)]-di-μ-thiocyanato-κ²N:S;κ²S:N], [Pb(NCS)₂(C₁₆H₁₀N₄O₂)₂]_n, 1, and binuclear di-μ-dicyanamido-κ²N¹:N⁵;κ²N⁵:N¹-bis{[5,6-bis(furan-2-yl)-3-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)-1,2,4-triazine-κN²](nitrato-κ²O,O')lead(II)}, [Pb₂(C₂N₃)₂(NO₃)₂(C₁₆H₁₀N₄O₂)₄], 2, as well as DFPT itself, were prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, ¹H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray structural analyses. In the double-chain 1D coordination polymer of 1 and the binuclear structure of 2, the Pb atom has a hemidirected-PbN₆S₂ and a rare holodirected-PbN₆O₂ environment, respectively, with a distorted cubic geometry. All the coordination modes of dicyanamide ligands within lead complexes were studied using the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) to compare them with the structures of 1 and 2. In addition to hydrogen bonds, the crystal networks are stabilized by π-π stacking interactions between the triazine, furyl and pyridine aromatic rings. The most stable theoretical structures of the title compounds predicted by density functional theory (DFT) calculations were compared with the solid-state results.

A novel ligand transfer reaction: Transferring an N3-donor amine ligand from Ni(II) to Cu(II)—structural, spectral, theoretical, and docking studies

Two complexes of N1-(2-aminoethyl)propane-1,3-diamine (AEPD), [Ni(AEPD)2](NO3)2 (1) and [Cu2( μ-Cl)2(AEPD)2](NO3)2·2H2O (2), are prepared and identified by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV–Vis spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (for 2). Spectral and structural data reveal that the AEPD ligand transfers from nickel to copper in the reaction between 1 and copper chloride. All coordination modes of the AEPD-based ligands are studied by analysis of the Cambridge Structural Database. The nickel atom in 1 has octahedral geometry (NiN6) while X-ray structure analysis revealed that the copper atom in the binuclear structure of 2 has an elongated square-pyramidal geometry with a CuN3OCl2 environment. In the crystal network of 2, water molecules and cationic complex units along with the nitrate ions form different hydrogen bond motifs. The thermodynamic stability of the compounds and their charge distribution patterns is studied by density functional theory and natural bond orbital analysis. The ability of AEPD and its complexes to interact with 10 selected biomacromolecules is investigated by docking calculations.

Reaction of 2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]ethanol with pyridine-2-carbaldehyde and complexation of the products with CuII and CdII along with docking studies

The reaction between 2-[2-(aminoethyl)amino]ethanol and pyridine-2-carbaldehyde in a 1:2 molar ratio affords a mixture containing 2-({2-[(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)amino]ethyl}amino)ethanol (PMAE) and 2-[2-(pyridin-2-yl)oxazolidin-3-yl]-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)ethanamine (POPME). Treatment of this mixture with copper(II) chloride or cadmium(II) chloride gave trichlorido[(2-hydroxyethyl)({2-[(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)amino]ethyl})azanium]copper(II) monohydrate, [Cu(C10H16N3O)Cl3]·H2O or [Cu(HPMAE)Cl3]·H2O, 1, and dichlorido{2-[2-(pyridin-2-yl)oxazolidin-3-yl]-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)ethanamine}cadmium(II), [CdCl2(C16H18N4O)] or [CdCl2(POPME)], 2, which were characterized by elemental analysis, FT–IR, Raman and 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. PMAE is potentially a tetradentate N3O-donor ligand but coordinates to copper here as an N2 donor. In the structure of 1, the geometry around the Cu atom is distorted square pyramidal. In 2, the Cd atom has a distorted octahedral geometry. In addition to the hydrogen bonds, there are π–π stacking interactions between the pyridine rings in the crystal packing of 1 and 2. The ability of PMAE, POPME and 1 to interact with ten selected biomolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS, Top II and B-DNA) was investigated by docking studies and compared with doxorubicin.

Microwave-assisted solvent-free synthesis and spectral and structural characterization of cyclotriphosphazene hexakis(o-tolylamide)

A new cyclotriphosphazene, 2,2,4,4,6,6-hexakis (o-tolylamono)-1,3,5,2λ 5,4λ 5,6λ 5-triazatriphosphinine (MPAP), was prepared using microwave irradiation and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, 31P NMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the crystal, in addition to hydrogen bonds, the network is further stabilized by inter- and intramolecular π–π stacking interactions between aromatic rings.

Structural, spectral and docking studies of a coordination polymer of zinc(II) formed by a pyridine-derived linker

A mixed ligand zinc coordination polymer, {Zn(μ-DPE)(DBM)2} n (1) (HDBM: dibenzoylmethane and DPE: (E)-1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethene), was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the 1D linear coordination polymer of 1, the zinc atom has a ZnN2O4 environment with octahedral geometry. These complex units are linked by the bridging of the planar N2 donor DPE ligands. In the coordination network of complex 1, in addition to the hydrogen bonds, the network is more stabilized by π–π stacking interactions between pyridine and β-diketone moieties of the ligands. These interactions increase the ability of the compound to interact with biomacromolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS and Top II) as investigated by docking calculations.

Theoretical and experimental investigation of anticancer activities of an acyclic and symmetrical compartmental Schiff base ligand and its Co(ii), Cu(ii) and Zn(ii) complexes

A compartmental Schiff base ligand, 2,2′-((((((2-hydroxypropane-1,3-diyl)bis(oxy))bis(2,1-phenylene))bis(methylene))bis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(4-bromophenol) (H₃L^Br) and its complexes with cobalt(ii), copper(ii) and zinc(ii) including, [Co(HL^Br)] (1), [Cu₂(L^Br)(μ-1,3-OAc)]·MeOH (2) and [Zn(HL^Br)] (3) were prepared using template synthesis and characterised by elemental analysis, FT-IR and ¹H NMR spectroscopies and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the structure of complexes 1 and 3 the metal atom has a MN₂O₂ environment with tetrahedral geometry while complex 2 has a binuclear structure with a MNO₄ environment and square planar geometry around the copper atom. The ability of all compounds to interact with the nine biomacromolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS and Top II) are investigated by docking calculations. For examination of the docking results, the in vitro activities of eight compounds against the human leukemia cell line K562 was investigated by evaluation of IC₅₀ values and mode of cell death (apoptosis).

A compartmental Schiff base ligand and its copper, cobalt and zinc complexes were prepared. The in vitro activities of all compounds against the human leukemia cell line K562 were investigated along with docking and DFT studies.
