Abstract
The discovery of new small molecule-based inhibitors is an attractive field in medicinal chemistry. Structurally diversified heterocyclic derivatives have been investigated to combat multi-drug resistant bacterial infections and they offers several mechanism of action. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is becoming more and more deadly to humans because of its simple method of transmission, quick development of antibiotic resistance, and ability to cause hard-to-treat skin and filmy diseases. The sulfur (SVI) particularly sulfonyl and sulfonamide based heterocyclic moieties, have found to be good anti-MRSA agents. The development of new nontoxic, economical and highly active sulfur (SVI) containing derivatives has become hot research topics in drug discovery research. Presently, more than 150 FDA approved Sulfur (SVI)-based drugs are available in the market, and they are widely used to treat various types of diseases with different therapeutic potential. The present collective data provides the latest advancements in Sulfur (SVI)-hybrid compounds as antibacterial agents against MRSA. It also examines the outcomes of in-vitro and in-vivo investigations, exploring potential mechanisms of action and offering alternative perspectives on the structure-activity relationship (SAR). Sulfur (SVI)-hybrids exhibits synergistic effects with existing drugs to provide antibacterial action against MRSA.

Abstract
A series of new ferrocenyl nitroheterocyclic sulfonylhydrazones (1a-4a and 1b-2b) were prepared by the reaction between formyl (R = H) or acetyl (R = CH3) nitroheterocyclic precursors [4/5-NO2(C5H2XCOR), where X = O, S)] and ferrocenyl tosyl hydrazine [(η5-C5H5)Fe(η5-C5H4SO2-NH-NH2)]. All compounds were characterized by conventional spectroscopic techniques. In the solid state, the molecular structures of compounds 1a, 2b, and 3a were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compounds showed an E-configuration around the C=N moiety. Evaluation of trypanocidal activity, measured in vitro against the Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma brucei strains, indicated that all organometallic tosyl hydrazones displayed activity against both parasite species with a higher level of potency toward T. brucei than T. cruzi. Moreover, the biological evaluation showed that the 5-nitroheterocyclic derivatives were more efficient trypanocidal agents than their 4-nitroheterocyclic counterparts.

Abstract
Developing cost-effective electrocatalysts using earth-abundant metal as an alternative to expensive precious metal catalyst remains a key challenge for researchers. Several strategies are being researched/tested for making low-cost transition metal complexes with controlled electron-density and coordination flexibility around the metal center to enhance their catalytic activity. Herein, we report a novel lutidine coordinated cobalt(ii) acetate complex [(3,5-lutidine)2Co(OAc)2(H2O)2] (1) as a promising electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Complex 1 was characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction data. The structure optimization of complex 1 was also done using DFT calculation and the obtained geometrical parameters were found to be in good agreement with the parameters obtained from the solid state structure obtained through single crystal X-ray diffraction data. Further, the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps analysis of complex 1 observed electron rich centers that were found to be in agreement with the solid-state structure. It was understood that the coordination of lutidine as a Lewis base and acetate moiety as a flexible ligand will provide more coordination flexibility around the metal center to facilitate the catalytic reaction. Further, the electron rich centers around metal center will also support the enhancement of their catalytic activity. Complex 1 shows impressive OER activity, even better than the state-of-the-art IrO2 catalyst, in terms of turnover frequency (TOF: 0.05) and onset potential (1.50 V vs. RHE). The TOF for complex 1 is two and half times higher, while the onset potential is ca. 20 mV lower, than the benchmark IrO2 catalyst studied under identical conditions.

Abstract
Rising bacterial antibiotic resistance is a global threat. To deal with it, new antibacterial agents and antiseptic materials need to be developed. One alternative in this quest is the organometallic derivatization of well-established antibacterial drugs and also the fabrication of advanced metal-based materials having antibacterial properties. Metal-based agents and materials often show new modes of antimicrobial action which enable them to overcome drug resistance in pathogenic bacterial strains. This review summarizes recent (2017-2020) progress in the field of organometallic-derived antibacterial drugs and metal-based materials having antibacterial activity. Specifically, it covers organometallic derivatives of antibacterial drugs including β-lactams, ciprofloxacin, isoniazid, trimethoprim, sulfadoxine, sulfamethoxazole, and ethambutol as well as non-antibacterial drugs like metformin, phenformin and aspirin. Recent advances and reported clinical trials in the use of metal-based nanomaterials as antibiofouling coatings on medical devices, as photocatalytic agents in indoor air pollutant control, and also as photodynamic/photothermal antimicrobial agents are also summarized.

Abstract
The study report on the synthesis of a series of novel quinoxaline-alkynyl derivatives that were evaluated for their activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) H37RV strain. A total of 19 compounds bearing an alcohol, aldehyde, mesylate and ester groups on the alkynly group, and also containing a chloro and nitro groups at the 6-position, were prepared. Seven compounds (3c, 4a-b, 5a, 5c, 6c and 6i), were found to have MIC90 < 10 µM, while five compounds (3b, 6a, 6b, 6d and 6h) had MIC90 in the range 10-20 µM. Compounds bearing a nitro substituent in the 6-position were generally more active and demonstrated a better safety profile, when compared to the unsubstituted and 6-chloro derivatives. Of the seven most active compounds, four contained nitro group at the 6-position.

Abstract
During the present investigation, two new sulfonamide-based Schiff base ligands, 4-{[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}-N-(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)benzene-1-sulfonamide (L1) and 4-{[1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]amino}-N-(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)benzene-1-sulfonamide (L2), have been synthesized and coordinated with the transition metals (V, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn). The ligands were characterized by their physical (color, melting point, yield and solubility), spectral (UV-Vis, FT-IR, LC-MS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR) and elemental data. The structures of the metal complexes (1)-(12) were evaluated through their physical (magnetic and conductance), spectral (UV-Vis, FT-IR and LC-MS) and elemental data. The molecular geometries of ligands and their selected metal complexes were optimized at their ground state energies by B3LYP level of density functional theory (DFT) utilizing 6-311+G (d, p) and LanL2DZ basis set. The first principle study has been discussed for the electronic properties, the molecular electrostatic possibilities as well as the quantum chemical identifiers. An obvious transition of intramolecular charge had been ascertained from the occupied to the unoccupied molecular orbitals. The UV-Vis analysis was performed through time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) by CAM-B3LYP/6-311+G (d, p) function. The in vitro antimicrobial activity was studied against two fungal (Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus) and four bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiela pneumoniae, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis) species. The antioxidant activity was executed as antiradical DPPH scavenging activity (%), total iron reducing power (%) and total phenolic contents (mg GAE g-1). Additionally, enzyme inhibition activity was done against four enzymes (Protease, α-Amylase, Acetylcholinesterase and Butyrylcholinesterase). All the synthetic products exhibited significant bioactivity which were found to enhance upon chelation due to phenomenon of charge transfer from metal to ligand.

Abstract
A series of bio-organometallic-hydrazones of the general formula [{(η5-C5H4)-C(R)=N-N(H)-C6H4-4-SO2NH2}]MLn(MLn = Re(CO)3, Mn(CO)3, FeCp; R=H, CH3) were prepared by reaction of formyl/acetyl organometallic precursors with 4-hydrazino-benzenesulphonamide. All compounds were characterized by conventional spectroscopic techniques (infra-red, 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis). Biological evaluation as carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) inhibitors agents was carried out using four human/h) isoforms, hCA I, II, IX and XII. The cytosolic isoforms hCA I and II were effectively inhibited by almost all derivatives with inhibition constants of 1.7-22.4 nM. Similar effects were observed for the tumour-associated transmembrane isoform hCA XII (KIs of 1.9-24.4 nM). hCA IX was less sensitive to inhibition with these compounds. The presence of bio-organometallic or metallo-carbonyl moieties in the molecules of these CAIs makes them amenable for interesting pharmacologic applications, for example for compounds with CO donating properties.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of the novel ferrocenyl sulfonyl hydrazide [Fe(η5-C5H5){(η5-C5H4)-S(O)2-NH-NH2}] (2) is reported. Additional studies on its reactivity using acetone or the ferrocenyl-, cyrhetrenyl- or cymantrenyl-aldehydes have allowed us to isolate and characterize [Fe(η5-C5H5){(η5-C5H4)-S(O)2-NH-N[double bond, length as m-dash]CMe2}] (3), the bis(ferrocenyl) derivative [Fe(η5-C5H5){[(η5-C5H4)-S(O)2-NH-N[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-(η5-C5H4)]Fe(η5-C5H5)}] (4) and the heterodimetallic compounds [Fe(η5-C5H5){[(η5-C5H4)-S(O)2-NH-N[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-(η5-C5H4)]M(CO)3}] with M = Re (5a) or Mn (5b). The X-ray crystal structures of compounds 3, 5a and 5b are also reported. A comparative study of their electrochemical and spectroscopic properties is also described. Additional computational calculations based on the DFT methodology have allowed us to elucidate the effect produced by the replacement of the terminal -NH2 (in 2) by the -N[double bond, length as m-dash]CMe2 (in 3) and -N[double bond, length as m-dash]CHR (in 4, 5a and 5b) moieties on the electronic distribution and to explain the differences detected in their electrochemical properties and absorption spectra. In vitro cytotoxicity studies of compounds 2, 4, 5a and 5b on the HCT-116 (colon), MCF7 and MDA-MB231 (breast) cancer cell lines reveal that compound 2 has no significant activity (IC50 > 100 μM), while its derivatives 4, 5a and 5b proved to be active in the three cancer cell lines selected in this study. The growth inhibition potency of compounds 5a and 5b against the triple negative MDA-MB231 breast cancer cell line is similar (or slightly) greater than that of cisplatin. Moreover, compounds 2, 4, 5a and 5b are less toxic than cisplatin in the normal and non-tumoral BJ fibroblasts, and the heterodimetallic complexes 5a and 5b with selective index >2.1 show an outstanding selective toxicity towards the MDA-MB231 cancer cells.

Spectroscopic Study of the E/Z Photoisomerization of a New Cyrhetrenyl Acylhydrazone: A Potential Photoswitch and Photosensitizer †. Photochem Photobiol 2020; 97:61-70. Abstract
The new cyrhetrenyl acylhydrazone [(CO)3 Re(η5 -C5 H4 )-C(O)-NH-N = C(CH3 )-(2-C4 H2 S-5-NO2 )] (E-CyAH) has been designed, synthesized and fully characterized to study the effect of having a cyrhetrenyl fragment (sensitizer) covalently bonded to an acylhydrazone moiety (switch), on its photophysical and photochemical properties. The crystal structure reveals that E-CyAH adopts an E-configuration around the iminic moiety [-N = C(CH3 )]. The absorption spectrum of E-CyAH displays two bands at 270 and 380 nm, which are mainly ascribed to π → π* intraligand (IL) and dπ → π* metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transitions, being consistent with DFT/TD-DFT calculations. Upon 365 nm irradiation, E-CyAH photoisomerizes to Z-CyAH, as evidenced by UV-Vis and 1 H-NMR spectral changes, with a quantum yield value ΦE -CyAH → Z -CyAH of 0.30. Z-CyAH undergoes a first-order thermal back-isomerization process, with a relatively short half-life τ1/2 of 277 min. Consequently, E-CyAH was quantitatively recovered after 24 h, making it a fully reversible T-type molecular photoswitch. This remarkable behavior allows us to measure the individual photophysical properties for both isomers. In addition, E-CyAH and Z-CyAH efficiently photosensitize the generation of singlet oxygen (O2 (1 Δg )) with good yield (ΦΔ = 0.342).

Abstract
Substituted amino-piperazine derivatives were synthesized and used as precursors for the preparation of a series of new organometallic Re(i) imine complexes with the general formula [(η5-C5H4CH[double bond, length as m-dash]N-(CH2)5-Pz-R)Re(CO)3] (Pz-R: -alkyl or aryl piperazine). The piperazine-based ligands were designed to be potential inhibitors of GSK-3β kinase. All the ligands and complexes were fully characterized and evaluated against the HT-29 and PT-45 cancer cell lines, in which GSK-3β plays a crucial role. In this context, we carried out biological evaluation using the MTT colorimetric assay. In terms of structure activity relationship, our findings indicated improved biological activity when aromaticity increased in the organic ligands (3d). In addition, the presence of the rhenium fragment in the imines (5a-d) leads to better activity with IC50 values in the range of 25-100 μM. In addition, our experimental studies were complemented by computational studies, where the volume and electrostatic surface of the organic ligands and organometallic compounds as well as their binding to the kinase protein are calculated.
