Abstract
The adsorption kinetics of adenine and adenosine on a ligand-exchange matrix, carboxymethyl diaminoethane poly(vinyl chloride) in cobalt form (cobalt-CMEDA-PVC), have been studied in a fixed-bed column system. The initial ligand concentrations ranged between 1.25×10−5 and 2.0×10−4 mol L−1. The kinetic studies were carried out spectrophotometrically, in order to determine the ratecontrolling step of the adsorption. The kinetic data of the single-component systems were acquired from the breakthrough curves of the ligands on the basis of the equivalent points method. In this study, the homogeneous diffusion model was adapted to a fixed-bed column system to describe the differentiation in the ligand concentration of the effluent, beginning from breakthrough point as a function of time. The results obtained for the adsorption kinetics indicated that the diffusion step plays a significant role in the adsorption kinetics of the ligands, due to the fact that the adsorption performance was strongly affected by the initial concentration of ligands.

Abstract
8-Hydroxyquinoline-7-carboxaldehyde (8-HQ-7-CA), Schiff-base ligand 8-hydroxyquinoline-7-carboxaldehyde benzoylhydrazone, and binuclear complexes [LnL(NO(3))(H(2)O)(2)](2) were prepared from the ligand and equivalent molar amounts of Ln(NO(3))·6H(2)O (Ln=La(3+), Nd(3+), Sm(3+), Eu(3+), Gd(3+), Dy(3+), Ho(3+), Er(3+), Yb(3+), resp.). Ligand acts as dibasic tetradentates, binding to Ln(III) through the phenolate O-atom, N-atom of quinolinato unit, and C=N and -O-C=N- groups of the benzoylhydrazine side chain. Dimerization of this monomeric unit occurs through the phenolate O-atoms leading to a central four-membered (LnO)(2) ring. Ligand and all of the Ln(III) complexes can strongly bind to CT-DNA through intercalation with the binding constants at 10(5)-10(6) M(-1). Moreover, ligand and all of the Ln(III) complexes have strong abilities of scavenging effects for hydroxyl (HO·) radicals. Both the antioxidation and DNA-binding properties of Ln(III) complexes are much better than that of ligand.

Abstract
In this study, sporopollenin of Lycopodium clavatum spores was used for the sorption experiment. Glutaraldehyde (GA) immobilized sporopollenin (Sp), is employed as a sorbent in sorption of selected heavy metal ions. The sorbent prepared by sequential treatment of sporopollenin by silanazing compound and glutaraldehyde is suggested for sorption of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Co(II) from aqueous solutions. Experimental conditions for effective sorption of heavy metal ions were optimized with respect to different experimental parameters using batch method in detail. Optimum pH range of Cu(II) has occurred at pH≥5.5 and Zn(II), Co(II) at pH≥5.0, for the batch method. All of the metal ions can be desorbed with 10 cm(3) of 0.5 mol dm(-3) of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution. Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm equations were applied to the experimental data. Thermodynamic parameters such as free energy (ΔG(o)), entropy (ΔS(o)) and enthalpy (ΔH(o)) were also calculated from the sorption results used to explain the mechanism of the sorption. The results indicated that this sorbent is successfully employed in the separation of trace Cu(II), Zn(II) and Co(II) from the aqueous solutions.

Abstract
The dinuclear SmIII complexes with 1:1 metal to ligand stoichiometry were prepared from Sm(NO3)3·6H2O and three anionic tetradentate Schiff-base ligands derived from 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carboxyaldehyde with benzoylhydrazine, 2-hydroxybenzoylhydrazine, and isonicotinylhydrazine, respectively. All the ligands and complexes can bind strongly to calf thymus DNA through intercalation with the binding constants at 105–106 M–1, but complexes present stronger affinities to DNA than ligands. All the ligands and complexes have strong abilities of antioxidation, but complexes and ligands containing an active phenolic hydroxy group show stronger scavenging effects on hydroxyl radical, and SmIII complex containing N-heteroaromatic substituent shows stronger scavenging effects for superoxide radical.

Abstract
Tb(III) complexes were prepared from Tb(NO(3))(3)·6H(2)O and four Schiff-base ligands derived from 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carboxaldehyde with aroylhydrazines. X-ray crystal and other structural analyses indicate that Tb(III) and every ligand can form a binuclear Tb(III) complex with 1:1 metal-to-ligand stoichiometry and nine-coordination at the Tb(III) center. Viscosity titration experiments and fluorescent and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy results indicate that all the Tb(III) complexes can bind to Calf thymus DNA through intercalation with the binding constants at the order of magnitude of 10(6)-10(7) M(-1), and they may be used as potential anticancer drugs, but complexes containing active phenolic hydroxy groups may have stronger antitumor activities. Antioxidation results indicate that all the Tb(III) complexes have strong abilities of scavenging hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals, but complexes containing active phenolic hydroxy groups show stronger scavenging effects on hydroxyl radicals and complexes containing N-heteroaromatic substituent show stronger scavenging effects on superoxide radicals. However, Tb(III) emission with these systems is not observed, for these ligands rather are quenchers and unable to sensitize this metal ion.

Abstract
Sporopollenin is a natural polymer obtained from Lycopodium clavatum, which is highly stable with constant chemical structure and has high resistant capacity to chemical attack. In this study, immobilization of lipase from Candida rugosa (CRL) on sporopollenin by adsorption method is reported for the first time. Besides this, the enzyme adsorption capacity, activity and thermal stability of immobilized enzyme have also been investigated. It has been observed that under the optimum conditions (Spo-E((0.3))), the specific activity of the immobilized lipase on the sporopollenin by adsorption was 16.3U/mg protein, which is 0.46 times less than that of the free lipase (35.6U/mg protein). The pH and temperature of immobilized enzyme were optimized, which were 6.0 and 40 degrees C respectively. Kinetic parameters V(max) and K(m) were also determined for the immobilized lipase. It was observed that there is an increase of the K(m) value (7.54mM) and a decrease of the V(max) value (145.0U/mg-protein) comparing with that of the free lipase.
