Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate how restoration thickness (0.5 mm and 0.7 mm) affects the fabrication trueness of additively manufactured definitive resin-based laminate veneers, and to analyze the effect of restoration thickness and margin location on margin quality. METHODS Two maxillary central incisors were prepared either for a 0.5 mm- or 0.7 mm-thick laminate veneer. After acquiring the partial-arch scans of each preparation, laminate veneers were designed and stored as reference data. By using these reference data, a total of 30 resin-based laminate veneers were additively manufactured (n = 15 per thickness). All veneers were digitized and stored as test data. The reference and test data were superimposed to calculate the root mean square values at overall, external, intaglio, and marginal surfaces. The margin quality at labial, incisal, mesial, and distal surfaces was evaluated. Fabrication trueness at each surface was analyzed with independent t-tests, while 2-way analysis of variance was used to analyze the effect of thickness and margin location on margin quality (α = 0.05). RESULTS Regardless of the evaluated surface, 0.7 mm-thick veneers had lower deviations (P < 0.001). Only the margin location (P < 0.001) affected the margin quality as labial margins had the lowest quality (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Restoration thickness affected the fabrication trueness of resin-based laminate veneers as 0.7 mm-thick veneers had significantly higher trueness. However, restoration thickness did not affect the margin quality and labial margins had the lowest quality. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Laminate veneers fabricated by using tested urethane-based acrylic resin may require less adjustment when fabricated in 0.7 mm thickness. However, marginal integrity issues may be encountered at the labial surface.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the fatigue performance of simplified ceramic restorations (leucite-reinforced glass ceramic) adhesively cemented onto substrates of different resin composites. Three options from the same commercial line were selected (Tetric N-Line, Ivoclar), classified as Conventional (CRC), Bulk-fill (BRC) and Flowable (FRC), which were used to make discs using a cylindrical metallic device (n = 19; Ø = 10 mm, thickness = 2.0 mm). A total of 57 discs (Ø = 10 mm, thickness = 1.0 mm) were made from CAD/CAM prefabricated blocks of a leucite reinforced glass-ceramic (Empress CAD, Ivoclar) to simulate a monolithic restoration, then were randomly distributed to be bonded on 19 discs of each three different resin composite substrates (CRC; BRC; or FRC) with a dual resin cement (Multilink N; Ivoclar). The samples were subjected to a compression test with a hemispherical stainless-steel piston (Ø = 40 mm) at a monotonic regimen (n = 4; 1 mm/min loading rate and 500 kgf loading cell until fracture). The cyclic fatigue test was performed underwater at a frequency of 20 Hz (n = 15). The first step was applied using 200N for 5000 cycles, followed by increments of 50N at each step of 10,000 until failure. The outcome considered for both tests was the occurrence of radial crack. Specific statistical tests (α = 0.05) were performed for monotonic (One-way ANOVA; Tukey's test) and fatigue data (Kaplan-Meier test; Log-rank test). Fractography of fractured samples were also performed. The FRC group had the lowest failure load in both test regimes (p < 0.05; monotonic: 726.64N; fatigue: 716.67N). There were no differences between the CRC and BRC groups (p > 0.05; monotonic: 989.30 and 990.11N; fatigue: 810.00 and 833.33N, respectively). The same result was obtained considering cycles for fatigue failure (FRC < CRC=BRC). Leucite glass-ceramic bonded to substrates made of flowable resin composite behaves worse mechanically than bonding to conventional or bulk-fill resin composite substrates.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The effect of different sizes of endodontic access preparations on the performance of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic and resin nanoceramic onlay restorations is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro and 3D finite element analysis study was to assess the effect of a conservative endodontic access cavity and a traditional endodontic access cavity on the fracture resistance and stress distribution of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic and resin nanoceramic onlays. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty caries-free human mandibular molars were anatomically prepared for onlays and divided into 6 groups. After restoration with a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (N=30) or resin nanoceramic (N=30), each material was further divided into traditional or conservative endodontic access cavity or intact tooth groups. After endodontic therapy and thermocycling, all specimens were submitted to a cycle fatigue test and then loaded until fracture. Failure type and location after debonding or fracture were classified and recorded. Furthermore, stress distribution in the 6 models was analyzed by using a finite element analysis software program. The data were compared by using a 2-way ANOVA test and the Tukey post hoc test (α=.05). The Weibull modulus and Weibull failure probabilities were also estimated for each group. RESULTS The lithium disilicate glass-ceramic onlays had lower fracture resistance values than the resin nanoceramic onlays in both the traditional and conservative endodontic access cavity groups (P<.05). The fracture resistance of the 2 materials for onlays with endodontic access was significantly lower than that for the intact restorations (P<.05). No significant difference was found between the fracture resistance of Lava Ultimate restorations with traditional endodontic access and conservative endodontic access, while the fracture resistance of EMAX restorations with traditional endodontic access was significantly lower than that of restorations with conservative endodontic access (P<.05). A higher percentage of irreparable fractures was found in the 3 resin nanoceramic restoration groups. The von Mises stresses were higher in the lithium disilicate glass-ceramic restorations than in the resin nanoceramic restorations with the same access cavities. The von Mises stresses in the tooth structure were higher with the resin nanoceramic restorations than with the lithium disilicate glass-ceramic restorations with the same access cavities. CONCLUSIONS An endodontic access cavity had more influence on the lithium disilicate glass-ceramic onlays than on the resin nanoceramic onlays, and a traditional endodontic access cavity significantly decreased the fracture resistance of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic onlays.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of resin cement material types on tooth with endocrown and onlay restorations. The first molar was scanned using Micro-CT and underwent a modelling process to obtain the 3D model for computational simulation. Eight models were simulated in the current study with two loading conditions (720N vertical load and 200N oblique load), two types of restoration (onlay and endocrown restorations), and two resin cement variants (dual-cure resin cement and light-cure resin cement). The tooth with onlay restoration showed a significant stress reduction (up to 70%) when using light-cure resin cement compared to dual-cure resin cement. In contrast, types of cement did not affect stress distribution in the tooth with endocrown restoration. The current study found that dual-cure resin cement was preferable in Endocrown and Onlay restorations, due to dual-cure resin cement provided better bond strength compared to light-cure resin cement.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Regular composites could produce less polymerization stress than resin cements when luting laminate veneers but there is no proper evidence to support this theory. The current study aimed to determine the degree of conversion, volumetric shrinkage, polymerization stress and the resultant elastic moduli of materials currently used for adhesive cementation and to determine possible correlations. METHODS The study considered (i) regular resin composites (Admira Fusion, Gradia, Grandioso, Palfique, Sirius Z, Viscalor and Z100) at room and pre-warmed (PW) at 69ºC, (ii) flowable composites (Sigma Flow and Grandioso Flow); (iii) solely light-activated cements (AllCem Veneer, Variolink Esthetic and RelyX Veneer); and (iv) one dual-activated resin cement (SpeedCEM). Degree of conversion (DC, n = 3) was accessed with FTIR 1 h after irradiation. Bonded-disk and Bioman II instruments were used to access polymerization shrinkage strain and shrinkage stress, respectively, for 60 min at 23 ± 1◦C (n = 3). The elastic modulus was determined by 3-point bending flexural test (n = 6). The results were submitted to analyse s of variance, Tukey's, and correlation tests. RESULTS For regular composites, the pre-warming did not affect DC, shrinkage and modulus but significantly increased the stress magnitude. Correlation tests indicated a significant relationship only between stress and polymerization shrinkage (r = 0.811343). SIGNIFICANCE Regular composites can produce less polymerization stress than resin cements when luting laminate veneers. Polymerization stress was dependent on the shrinkage magnitude, but not on the degree of conversion nor the elastic modulus.

Abstract
The thickness and shade of a restoration will affect the transmission of light from the light-curing unit (LCU). This study determined the power (mW), spectral radiant power (mW/nm), and beam profile of different LCUs through various thicknesses and shades of a CAD-CAM resin composite (BRAVA Block, FGM). Five thicknesses: 0.5; 0.75; 1.0; 1.5, and 2.0 mm, in three shades: Bleach; A2 and A3.5 of a CAD-CAM resin (n = 5). Two single-peak LCUs: EL, Elipar DeepCure-S (3M Oral Care); and OP, Optilight Max (Gnatus), and one multiple-peak LCU: VL, VALO Grand (Ultradent), were used. The LCUs were positioned touching the surface of the BRAVA Block. The power and emission spectrum were measured using a fiberoptic spectrometer attached to an integrating sphere, and the beam profiles using a laser beam profiler. The effect of the material thickness on the light attenuation coefficients was determined. VL and EL delivered more homogeneous beam profiles than OP. The type of the BRAVA Block had a significant effect on the transmitted power, and wavelengths of transmitted light (p < 0.001). There was an exponential reduction in the power and emission spectrum as the thickness of the BRAVA Block increased (p < 0.001). The light transmission through the A2 shade was least affected by the thickness (p < 0.001). The attenuation coefficient was higher for the violet light and higher for A3.5 than the A2 or Bleach shades. No violet light from the VL could be detected at the bottom of 2.0 mm of the BRAVA Block.

Abstract
(1) Background: Aesthetic dentistry has become one of the most dynamic fields in modern dental medicine. Ceramic veneers represent the most appropriate prosthetic restorations for smile enhancement, due to their minimal invasiveness and highly natural appearance. For long-term clinical success, accurate design of both tooth preparation and ceramic veneers is of paramount importance. The aims of this in vitro study were to assess the stress in anterior teeth restored with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) ceramic veneers and compare the resistance to detachment and the fracture of ceramic veneers prepared using two different designs. (2) Methods: Sixteen lithium disilicate ceramic veneers were designed and milled using the CAD-CAM technology and divided into two groups according to the preparations (n = 8): Group 1, conventional (CO), with linear marginal contour and Group 2, crenelated (CR), the latter with our novel (patented) sinusoidal marginal design. All samples were bonded to anterior natural teeth. The mechanical resistance to detachment and fracture was investigated by applying bending forces on the incisal margin of the veneers in order to determine which type of preparation leads to better adhesion. An analytic method was employed, as well, and the results of the two approaches were compared. (3) Results: The mean values of the maximum force recorded at the veneer detachment were 78.82 ± 16.55 N for the CO group and 90.20 ± 29.81 N for the CR group. The relative increase, equal to 14.43%, demonstrated that the novel CR tooth preparation provided higher adhesive joints. In order to determine the stress distribution within the adhesive layer, a finite element analysis (FEA) was performed. The statistical t-test showed that the mean value of the maximum normal stresses is higher for the CR-type preparations. (4) Conclusions: The patented CR veneers represent a practical solution to augment the adhesion and mechanical properties of ceramic veneers. The obtained results demonstrated that CR adhesive joints triggered higher mechanical and adhesive forces, which subsequently led to a higher resistance to detachment and fracture.

Abstract
Anterior teeth problems affect the patient's daily eating, communication, social activities, self-confidence, and mental health. The trend in dentistry is to address anterior tooth problems with minimally invasive and aesthetic treatments. With the development of adhesive materials and ceramics, micro-veneers have been proposed as an alternative treatment for enhancing the aesthetic appearance and avoiding unnecessary tooth reduction. A micro-veneer is a veneer that can be cemented to the surface without or with minimal tooth preparation. These benefits include no need for anesthesia, postoperative insensitivity, good adhesion to enamel, reversibility of treatment, and higher patient acceptance. However, the micro-veneer repair is suitable only for specific cases and must be strictly controlled regarding indication. Treatment planning is a crucial step to achieving functional and aesthetic rehabilitation, and following the clinical protocol is helpful for the longevity and success of micro-veneer restorations. However, more precise and predictable tooth preparation methods, such as minimally invasive microscopic tooth preparation and digitally guided veneer preparation, are recommended rather than the traditional free-hand method. Therefore, this paper clarifies micro-veneers and compares them with other restorations to gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding. The authors also review indications, materials, cementation, and effect evaluation of micro-veneers to provide clinicians with valuable information. In conclusion, micro-veneers are minimally invasive treatments that provide good restoration results when used appropriately and are worthy of promotion for the aesthetic restoration of anterior teeth.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of the porcelain laminate veneer restorations (PLV) of the maxillary central incisor luted with two types of resin cements having different incisal preparations: butt joint and palatal chamfer. Biomechanical analyses were performed using the micro-CT-based finite element models, and von Mises stress and strain values of the PLV, resin cement, adhesive layer, and tooth structure were computed. The PLV with butt joint preparation showed larger stress values than those of restored with palatal chamfer preparation, regardless of the elasticity of the cement and loading conditions. An increase in the elasticity modulus of the resin cement induced slightly larger stresses on the adhesive layer, tooth tissues, and restorative materials. Overall, this study demonstrates the role of the preparation design and luting materials on the mechanical behavior of the PLV restorations and discusses the potential failure mechanisms of the PLV restorations under different loading mechanisms.

Abstract
A thin endocrown restoration was often applied in endodontically treated teeth with vertical bite height loss or inadequate clinical crown length. A model of mandibular molars made by endocrown restoration with 1 mm thickness and 2 mm depth of pulp chamber was constructed and imported into FEA ANSYS v18.0 software. The three CAD/CAM materials, feldspathic (Mark2), lithium disilicate (EMAX), and lava ultimate (LU), were assigned, and the five load indenters were loaded on the full occlusal (FO), occlusal center (OC), central fossa (CF), buccal groove (BG), and mesiobuccal cusp (MC) of restoration in the model. The MinPS and MaxPS of the thin endocrown were significantly higher than those of tooth tissue in five types of loads except for the LU endocrown loaded in the FO group. The smaller the contact surface of the load was, the higher MaxPS and MinPS were. MaxPS and MinPS of the MC were the highest, followed by the BG and CF in the restoration. In the stress distribution of tooth tissue, MaxPS in the LU endocrown accumulated at the external edge of enamel and was significantly higher than MaxPS in Mark2 and EMAX endocrown concentrated on the chamber wall of dentin under OC, CF and BG loads. Within the limitations of this FEA study, the LU endocrown transferred more stress to tooth tissue than Mark2 and EMAX, and the maximum principal stress on endocrown restoration and tooth tissue at the mesiobuccal cusp load was higher than that at the central fossa and buccal groove load.

Abstract
A series of dyes based on the acenaphthoquinoxaline skeleton was synthesized. Their structure was modified by introducing electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups, increasing the number of conjugated double bonds and the number and position of nitrogen atoms, as well as the arrangement of aromatic rings (linear or angular). The dyes were investigated as a component in the photoinitiating systems of radical polymerization for a potential application in dentistry. They acted as the primary absorber of visible light and the acceptor of an electron, which was generated from a second component being an electron donor. Thus, the radicals were generated by the photoinduced intermolecular electron transfer (PET) process. Electron donors used differed in the type of heteroatom, i.e., O, S and N and the number and position of methoxy substituents. To test the ability to initiate the polymerization reaction by photoinduced hydrogen atom transfer, we used 2-mercaptobenzoxazole as a co-initiator. The effectiveness of the photoinitiating systems clearly depends on both the modified acenaphthoquinocaline structure and the type of co-initiator. The lower amount of heat released during the chain reaction and the polymerization rate comparable to this achieved for the photoinitiator traditionally used in dentistry (camphorquinone) indicates that the studied dyes may be valuable in this field.
