Abstract
This study evaluated fracture resistance of monolithic fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) fabricated using different placement strategies of various connector designs in multilayered zirconia disc. Monolithic FDPs were placed in translucent and dentin layers of multilayered zirconia disc and fabricated with V-shaped and U-shaped connector designs gained by sharp and blunt millings. The FDPs were cemented on abutment models made of polymer material, underwent thermal cycles, and loaded to fracture using the universal testing machine. Fracture loads and modes were analyzed using two-way ANOVA, Tukey's post hoc test, and Fisher exact test (p≤0.05). The chosen placement strategy and connector designs gained by different milling procedures in computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing technology affect fracture resistance of monolithic FDPs made of multilayered zirconia materials. Placing the connector in translucent layer rather than dentin layer of multilayered zirconia disc and using sharp milling significantly reduces fracture resistance of monolithic multilayered zirconia FDPs.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of coffee thermocycling on color stability and translucency of CAD-CAM polychromatic high translucent zirconia compared with lithium disilicate glass ceramic. METHODS Sixteen rectangular plates (14 × 16 × 1.0 mm) of two ceramic materials (IPS E.max CAD (IEC), IPS E.max ZirCAD Prime [IZP]) were prepared. Each specimen was measured for color coordinates using a spectrophotometer following 30,000 cycles of coffee thermocycling. CIELAB formula was used to determine color and translucency differences (ΔE and ΔTP). The means of ΔE and ΔTP were compared using independent samples t-test and were evaluated using their respective 50%:50% perceptibility and acceptability thresholds (PT and AT). One-way analysis of variance was performed to evaluate the translucency parameter (TP) and surface roughness (Ra) of each material. RESULTS Mean ΔE values of IEC (4.69) and IZP (4.64) were higher than the AT (ΔE ≤ 2.7) with no significant difference found between the two groups (p = 0.202). Considering the TP, only IEC showed a statistically significant increase in TP value (p < 0.001). However, the mean ΔTP of IEC (3.25) remained within the range of acceptability (1.3 < ΔTP ≤ 4.4). CONCLUSIONS Within the limitations of this current study, the color stability of all materials was clinically affected by coffee thermocycling. In terms of translucency, only lithium disilicate glass ceramic was influenced by coffee thermocycling. High translucent zirconia had superior translucency stability compared to lithium disilicate glass ceramic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Erbium lasers safely offer the possibility of reuse for debonded restorations. Since these lasers have a high affinity for water molecules, they are absorbed by resin cement causing explosive ablation of the cement and thus, the restoration debonds. The efficiency of this process depends on many factors, including the ceramic type, its chemical composition and thickness. Therefore, this study was designed to test the time taken to debond ultrathin occlusal veneers made of three types of milled ceramic materials and evaluate the integrity of these restorations after debonding. METHODS Three ceramic types were evaluated in this study: lithium disilicate (IPS Emax CAD), highly condensed lithium disilicate (GC initial®LiSi), and translucent zirconia (Katana zirconia STML). Each group consisted of 8 occlusal veneers of 0.5 mm thickness. The samples were cemented to the occlusal surfaces of the upper molar teeth. An Er; Cr: YSGG laser was applied to the occlusal veneers using the scanning method, and time until debonding was calculated. The debonded samples were then inspected under a stereomicroscope for possible damage. Numerical data are presented as the mean with 95% confidence interval (CI), standard deviation (SD), minimum (min.) and maximum (max.) values. Normality and variance homogeneity assumptions were confirmed using Shapiro-Wilk's and Levene's tests, respectively. Data were normally distributed and were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test. The significance level was set at p < 0.05 for all tests. Statistical analysis was performed with R statistical analysis software version 4.3.2 for Windows (R Core Team (2023). R: A language and environment for statistical computing. R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria. URL https://www.R-project.org/). RESULTS There was no significant difference in debonding time between the different materials (p = 0.995). The longest debonding time was found for Katana STML (87.52 ± 20.45) (seconds), followed by Emax (86.94 ± 20.63) (seconds), while the lowest value was found for LiSi initial (86.14 ± 25.16) (seconds). In terms of damage to the debonded veneers, The Emax and zirconia samples showed no damage. However, 40% of the LiSi samples fractured during debonding, and 20% exhibited cracks. Only 40% of the LiSi samples were sound after debonding. CONCLUSION Er; Cr: YSGG laser can be used efficiently to remove ceramic occlusal veneers. However, its effect on LiSi restorations needs further research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The durability of ceramic is crucial, which is probably influenced by aging. This study evaluated the effect of aging on flexural strength of different ceramics. MATERIALS AND METHODS One-hundred twenty ceramic discs (Ø 12 mm, 1.5 mm thickness) were prepared from zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS, C), lithium disilicate (LS2, E), precolored yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (Y-TZP, Ip), and customized color Y-TZP (Ic). Samples were randomly divided into two groups for accelerated aging (A) between 5 and 55°C water baths, 30-second immersing time each, for 10,000 cycles, and nonaged group (N), serving as control. Biaxial flexural strength (σ) was evaluated utilizing the piston-on-three-balls at 0.5 mm/min speed. Analysis of variance and Tukey comparisons were determined for significant differences (α = 0.05). Weibull analysis was applied for survival probability, Weibull modulus (m), and characteristic strength (σo). Microstructures were evaluated with scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). RESULTS The highest σ and σo were seen for IcN, followed by IcA, IpN, IpA, EN, CA, CN, and EA, respectively. CN showed the highest m, while EA showed the lowest m. Significant differences of σ for each ceramic were indicated (p < 0.05). Aging caused a significant difference in σ (p < 0.05). XRD showed t→m phase transformation of Ip and Ic after aging. CONCLUSION Aging affected strength of ceramics. Comparable strength between LS2 and ZLS was evidenced, but both were less strength than Y-TZP either aging or non-aging. Comparable strength between precolored Y-TZP and customized color Y-TZP was indicated. Better resisting aging deterioration of Y-TZP than LS2 and ZLS is suggested for fabrication restorative reconstruction.

Abstract
AIM The current study aims to assess the color change of polymer-infiltrated ceramic Vita Enamic (VE) and extra translucent multilayer zirconia (XTML) after being immersed in different types of beverages, which are coffee, tea, and cola in comparison to distilled water as control. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 80 rectangular-shaped specimens were prepared with fixed dimensions (14 × 12 × 0.5 mm) and then were divided into two groups (n = 40) according to ceramic material (VE, XTML). Specimens were sliced as each slice measures about 0.5 mm thick. Each group specimens were divided into four subgroups (n = 10) based on the immersion solutions in which specimens were stored (water, coffee, tea, and cola) for 28 days. The color parameters (L-a-b) of the specimens were recorded before immersion and at the end of the 7th (T1), 14th (T2), 21st (T3) and 28th (T4) days after immersion. Color measurements were statistically analyzed with a significance threshold of p < 0.05. RESULTS There was a significant difference in color change between VE and XTML in all periods of tea and coffee immersion subgroups and in T3 and T4 in cola immersion subgroups (p < 0.001). Vita Enamic showed the highest differences in ΔE through all storage periods after 28 days of tea immersion (ΔE of VE= 8.06 ± 1.04). Extra translucent multilayer zirconia showed the highest differences in ΔE through all storage periods after 28 days of tea immersion (ΔE of XTML = 3.0 ± 0.33). CONCLUSION Commonly consumed staining beverages influenced the color stability of the polymer-infiltrated ceramics more than extra translucent zirconia ceramics. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This study may provide guidance for clinicians to select the appropriate ceramic restorative material with high color stability and low tendency for color change by common staining beverages to achieve long-lasting esthetic results for the patients. Abstract
Objective To evaluate the flexural strength of two translucent multilayered zirconia materials produced with different multilayer technologies. Methodology. Eighty bar-shaped zirconia specimens were prepared from two different multilayered zirconia materials (IPS e.max® ZirCAD Prime and KATANA™ Multilayered Zirconia HTML) and divided into eight groups (n = 10) based on the materials used and the individual layers of the disc for each material: Dentin Prime, Transition Prime, Translucent Prime, Multilayered Prime, Dentin HTML, Transition HTML, Translucent HTML, and Multilayered HTML. The bar-shaped zirconia specimens were cut to include all the layers from translucent to dentin In Multilayered Prime and Multilayered HTML groups. All specimens were fully sintered after cutting from multilayered zirconia discs and subjected to three-point flexural strength test using the universal testing machine. Results The specimens made of HTML zirconia material showed significantly (P < 0.001) higher flexural strength than those made of IPS e.max® ZirCAD Prime material, with no significant difference (P > 0.05) compared to the specimens in the Dentin Prime group. The Dentin Prime specimens had the highest flexural strength (743 ± 116 MPa) compared to those in the Translucent Prime (514 ± 120 MPa), Transition Prime (575 ± 102 MPa), and Multilayered Prime (531 ± 132 MPa) groups. The flexural strength of the specimens from the individual layers of HTML zirconia material was not significantly different (P > 0.05) among the Dentin HTML (763 ± 56 MPa), Translucent HTML (791 ± 106 MPa), Transition HTML (816 ± 85 MPa), and Multilayered HTML (793 ± 102 MPa) groups. Conclusion Multilayered zirconia materials produced with different yttria contents by layer have lower flexural strength than those produced with gradient shade technology and the same yttria content for each layer. Therefore, various factors such as the type of prostheses, nesting strategies of prostheses within the zirconia disc, and the desired aesthetical requirements should be considered when selecting the multilayered zirconia materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent forms of translucent zirconia material have been developed, offering a wide range of options and varieties for enhancing aesthetics, making it a preferred choice in the field of prosthetic dentistry. However, there is insufficient understanding regarding the recent types of zirconia materials and their optical behavior. Understanding the variables that influence the translucency of zirconia and identifying strategies to enhance its esthetics are crucial. PURPOSE The current systemic review highlights a comprehensive understanding of different zirconia generations in relation to their optical characteristics and evaluates material-related variables affecting their translucency. METHODS The present review studied in-vitro studies that evaluated the optical characteristics of different yttria content of yttria stabilized materials. The topics explored were: (1) the different zirconia material generations and their optical behavior; (2) material-related factors that affect their translucency. The research was restricted to online publication in the English language from July 1, 2010, to July 31, 2023, using PubMed, Scopus, and Science Direct resources. The search key terms and their combinations were "zirconia," "translucent zirconia," "cubic zirconia," "highly translucent zirconia," "yttria partially stabilized zirconia," "monolithic zirconia," "translucency," "optical properties," and "light transmission." RESULTS The data obtained from fifty-three studies addressed the optical characteristics of various zirconia generations. They reported that changing yttria content had a significant impact on translucency. Different kinds of zirconia ceramics of the same generation have varying translucencies. Achieving optimum aesthetics with monolithic zirconia is challenging due to factors related to material aspects such as the presence of additives, point defects, microstructure, thickness, phase distribution, and sintering conditions. CONCLUSIONS Newly developed monolithic dental zirconia ceramics have improved aesthetics and translucency. However, additional research is necessary to evaluate their performance and long-term durability. TRIAL REGISTRATION This systematic review was registered in PROSPERO, under number CRD42023474482.

Abstract
Nowadays, yttria (Y3+)-stabilized ZrO2 (Y-TZP) is the most commonly used material in dental prosthetics. Y-TZP dental ceramics are mainly stabilized via the addition of 3 mol% yttrium oxide (Y2O3). These ceramics exhibit excellent mechanical properties, including high flexural strength, fracture toughness, elastic modulus, etc. Some manufacturers have recently introduced a new class of dental materials with multilayer composition with the aim of combining the advantages of adding more or less Y2O3 to the ceramic composition in one Y-TZP material. The flexural strength values of multilayer Y-TZP may vary depending on the dimensions of the specimen, layer distributions, and especially the layer exposed on the maximum tension side, i.e., loading configuration. Although previous studies have examined the flexural strength of separate Y-TZP layers, capturing the flexural strength of multilayer Y-TZP is still challenging. However, one should keep in mind that multilayer flexural strength is important for clinical indications. The objective of this study is to compare the flexural strength of three distinct multilayer translucent Y-TZP materials made up of layers with different Y3+ contents. Rectangular samples (2 mm × 2 mm × 16 mm) were prepared from CAD/CAM discs using the milling machine Programill PM7 (Ivoclar Vivadent AG). Milled bars were tested for flexural strength in a three-point bending test (ISO 6872:2015) using a universal testing machine (Inspekt Duo 5kN; Hegewald & Peschke, Nossen, Germany) at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Representative samples of each type of material were selected for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the microstructure. Representative samples of each type of material were selected for structural, mechanical, and microstructural analyses.

Abstract
Objective To describe the existing knowledge about metal-free prosthetic biomaterials according to their physicochemical properties and based on this, define criteria for their placement in both the anterior and posterior sectors. Materials and methods A digital search was carried out in the databases: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar of the literature published in the English language without time restrictions and included original articles such as case reports, retrospective and prospective studies, narrative, comprehensive, systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Meanwhile, short communications, editorials and articles in a language other than English were excluded. Results 40 articles were evaluated, published between 2000 and 2023. The main characteristics and physicochemical properties of ceramic biomaterials such as zirconia, feldspathic based ceramics, lithium disilicate and alumina, among others, were analyzed and summarized. In addition, certain criteria were defined based on the available scientific evidence on the use of different ceramic systems both in the anterior sector and in the posterior sector for patients who need some type of prosthetic restoration. Conclusions Among the different metal-free materials used for the construction of fixed dental prostheses, zirconia has been shown to have better aesthetic, biomechanical and biocompatibility properties, which makes it a candidate material for the rehabilitation of partially edentulous patients.

Abstract
Introduction In oral rehabilitation, the use of ceramic restorations is widely accepted due to its aesthetic capacity to mimic the naturalness of the dental tissue, provide longevity of the material, and present a greater marginal fit compared to crowns with a metal structure. Termination lines are biological preparations whose function is to minimize the cervical opening of the marginal seal. Consequently, analyzing the behavior of restorative materials under compressive forces decreases the risk of fracture and increases the success of the treatment. Objective To compare the compressive stresses of lithium disilicate crowns with three different finishing lines. Methodology In silico study of the simulation of a dental preparation on a lower right first molar with chamfer (0.6 mm), shoulder (0.5 mm) and deep chamfer (0.5 mm) finish lines. Using the SolidWorks®️ version 2017 software, the maximum stresses, minimum stresses, and location of the compressive force were collected on the Megapascal (Mpa) measurement scale. Results The chamfer type termination line (0.6mm) obtained a lower compressive stress compared to the other two shoulder type termination lines (0.5mm) and deep chamfer (0.5mm). Conclusions It was shown that the chamfer type finishing line (0.6mm) presented a better force distribution, determining greater reliability in the selection of this finishing line with the use of a lithium disilicate crown in a unitary manner.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This clinical case describes a completely digital workflow using current digital technologies for a full-mouth adhesive rehabilitation with ultra-translucent multilayer zirconia restorations. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS A healthy 60-year-old man with abfractions on all upper and lower molars and severe tooth wear underwent a full-mouth rehabilitation with laminate veneers and partial adhesive restorations. A proper zirconia bonding protocol was realized to provide a durable bond between the ultra-translucent zirconia and the resin cement. Furthermore, the implementation of a digital workflow enables the clinician to have an effective communication during treatment planning and simplify the clinical and laboratory procedures, providing the patient with long-term esthetic treatment and functional results. CONCLUSION The implementation of a completely digital workflow and the use of ultra-translucent multilayer zirconia for indirect adhesive restorations can be an alternative with simplified and predictable procedures for patients with dental wear and teeth discolorations. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The digital workflow described is intended to facilitate the planning and execution of a full-mouth adhesive rehabilitation and demonstrates to clinicians a reliable zirconia bonding concept for minimally invasive anterior and posterior restorations.

Abstract
Aim This article aims to provide an overview of the scientific evidence comparing zirconium dental implants with titanium implants. Materials and Methods A comprehensive literature review was conducted using the MEDLINE database accessed through PubMed and Scopus. The search included the keywords "dental implant," "zirconia dental implant," and "titanium dental implant" without any date restrictions. Results The review examined research articles focusing on the physical and chemical characteristics of titanium and zirconia dental implants. Additionally, studies investigating the strength and translucency of zirconia, as well as the osseointegration of both materials, were analyzed. However, no conclusive evidence demonstrating the superiority of either material was found in the current literature. Conclusion Taking into account the findings of this narrative study, no significant differences were identified between zirconium and titanium dental implants. Further scientific research is required to establish a definitive recommendation regarding the use of one material over the other.

Abstract
In dentistry, clinicians mainly use dual-cured or light-cured resin-matrix cements to achieve a proper polymerization of the organic matrix leading to enhanced physical properties of the cement. However, several parameters can affect the polymerization of resin-matrix cements. The main aim of the present study was to perform a scoping review on the degree of conversion (DC) of the organic matrix, the polymerization, and the light transmittance of different resin-matrix cements used in dentistry. A search was performed on PubMed using a combination of the following key terms: degree of conversion, resin cements, light transmittance, polymerization, light curing, and thickness. Articles in the English language published up to November 2022 were selected. The selected studies' results demonstrated that restorative structures with a thickness higher than 1.5 mm decrease the light irradiance towards the resin-matrix cement. A decrease in light transmission provides a low energy absorption through the resin cement leading to a low DC percentage. On the other hand, the highest DC percentages, ranging between 55 and 75%, have been reported for dual-cured resin-matrix cements, although the polymerization mode and exposure time also influence the DC of monomers. Thus, the polymerization of resin-matrix cements can be optimized taking into account different parameters of light-curing, such as adequate light distance, irradiance, exposure time, equipment, and wavelength. Then, optimum physical properties are achieved that provide a long-term clinical performance of the cemented restorative materials.

Abstract
To investigate the effect of resin cements on the color stability and translucency of ceramic laminate veneers used for diastema closure. Sixty resin abutments were prepared for ceramic laminate veneers and divided into six groups according to the ceramic type (lithium disilicate, zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate, and translucent zirconia) and the cement type (Variolink Esthetic LC and RelyX Veneer). Color coordinates and translucency were analyzed after cementation and after soaking in the coffee solution. Differences in color and translucency were estimated, and results were statistically assessed (α = 0.05). Ceramic materials showed a significant impact on color changes after soaking in coffee within Variolink Esthetic groups. Translucent zirconia showed the highest color change, followed by zirconia reinforced lithium silicate and lithium disilicate. Ceramic materials showed a significant impact among the RelyX Veneer groups. A significant interaction in color changes was found between ceramic types and cement types after cementation, and after soaking in coffee was found. All groups showed a clinically acceptable difference in translucency parameters after soaking in coffee. The resin cement affects the color and translucency of ceramic laminate veneers used for diastema closure, and ceramic laminate veneers bonded with Variolink Esthetic LC resin cement are more translucent, while ceramic laminate veneers bonded with RelyX Veneer resin are more resistant to coffee staining. The lithium disilicate laminate veneer is more resistant to coffee staining than zirconia reinforced lithium silicate and translucent zirconia laminate veneers used for diastema closure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mechanical surface treatments can deteriorate the mechanical properties of zirconia. This study evaluated and compared the biaxial flexural strength, fracture toughness, and fatigue resistance of high translucency (HT) to low translucency (LT) zirconia after various mechanical surface treatments. METHODS Four hundred eighty zirconia discs were prepared by milling and sintering two HT (Katana and BruxZir) and LT (Cercon and Lava) zirconia blocks at targeted dimensions of 12 mm diameter × 1.2 mm thickness. Sintered zirconia discs received one of the following surface treatments: low-pressure airborne particle abrasion (APA) using 50 µm alumina particles, grinding using 400 grit silicon carbide paper, while as-sintered specimens served as control. Internal structure and surface roughness were evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a non-contact laser profilometer, respectively. Half of the discs were tested for initial biaxial flexural strength, while the rest was subjected to 106 cyclic fatigue loadings, followed by measuring the residual biaxial flexural strength. Fractured surfaces were examined for critical size defects (c) using SEM to calculate the fracture toughness (KIC). The effect of surface treatments, zirconia type, and cyclic fatigue on the biaxial flexural strength was statistically analyzed using three-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD post hoc tests (α = 0.05). Weibull analysis was done to evaluate the reliability of the flexural strength for different materials. RESULTS The initial biaxial flexural strength of LT zirconia was significantly higher (p < 0.001) than that of HT zirconia in all groups. While low APA significantly increased the biaxial flexural strength of LT zirconia, no significant change was observed for HT zirconia except for Katana. Surface grinding and cyclic fatigue significantly reduced the flexural strength of all groups. High translucency zirconia reported higher fracture toughness, yet with lower Weibull moduli, compared to LT zirconia. CONCLUSION LT zirconia has higher biaxial flexural strength, yet with lower fracture toughness and fatigue resistance, compared to HT zirconia. Low-pressure APA has significantly increased the biaxial flexural strength in all zirconia groups except BruxZir. Grinding was deteriorating to biaxial flexural strength and fracture toughness in all zirconia types. Cyclic fatigue has significantly decreased the biaxial flexural strength and reliability of HT and LT zirconia.
