Abstract
The research question 'How do fertility professionals worldwide perceive the issue of payment for egg donation and does this view change under different circumstances?' was addressed. A worldwide online survey was conducted between January and March 2023, focusing on the views of fertility providers concerning egg donor payments. From the 3,790 IVF-Worldwide.com members invited, 532 (14%) from 88 countries responded. The majority of participants, primarily from Europe (38.9%) and Asia (20.1%), were fertility specialists, embryologists, and fertility nurses. Most (60.3%) favoured regulated donor compensation, with only 13% advocating for unrestricted amounts. Compensation opposition (22.4%) was often rooted in concerns about donors' best interests. When considering egg donation from low-resource to high-resource countries, 38.5% were opposed. When asked about compensating women who underwent elective, non-medical egg freezing should they choose to donate their unused oocytes, most responders supported it to some degree, with only 28.4% opposing any compensation. The survey revealed that a significant majority of fertility professionals worldwide are supportive of some form of compensation for egg donors. However, perspectives diverge depending on the specific scenario and the country of practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the opinions of female academicians about oocyte freezing. METHODS This qualitative study included 12 single academic women who had not yet entered menopause, did not have children, and were continuing their doctoral education in Istanbul, Turkey, between August and September 2022. Data were collected with semi-structured interviews and evaluated by content analysis. RESULTS Three main themes were "Difficulty of fertility in academics," "Advantages of oocyte freezing," and "Concerns about oocyte freezing." Participants mostly had positive attitudes about the advantages of oocyte cryopreservation, but they had concerns about pregnancies obtained with frozen oocytes. CONCLUSION The academic women attributed fertility as an obstacle to their career and experienced anxiety about fertility. They were aware of the advantages of oocyte cryopreservation; however, they defined the pregnancy with oocyte freezing as artificial.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the increasing number of young women surviving cancer and a growing trend among highly educated women to postpone childbearing for educational or professional pursuits, there is a rising demand for egg freezing services to ensure a successful pregnancy. This study aims to assess the knowledge and beliefs surrounding oocyte cryopreservation, both for medical and social reasons, among female students in Tehran, Iran. METHODS An online cross-sectional survey was carried out from March to August of 2022, involving a total of 1279 childless students pursuing master's and doctoral degrees at universities in Tehran. The participants were between the ages of 18 and 38. Knowledge and beliefs about medical and social oocyte cryopreservation were assessed through Fertility Preservation Survey (FPS) instrument. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 26.38 ± 4.9. The majority of students expected to be "30-34 years" when they become pregnant with their first child (41.1%, M: 30.3 ± 4.13 years) and "35-39 years" when they give birth to their last child (46.7%, M: 35.28 ± 4.18 years). The students agreed with preserving fertility with medical (93.3%) and social (86.9%) indications and believed the medical (95.1%) and social (87.4%) costs of cryopreservation should be covered by the healthcare system. Among the participants, 75.6% considered cost to be a definite or probable factor in their decision to pursue fertility preservation. The oncology team's recommendation was identified as the most important factor in deciding on medical egg freezing (92.6%, M: 3.46 ± 0.71). The overall correct response rate for the knowledge questions was 57.7%. The majority of participants (95.5%) agreed that physicians should routinely provide information about egg freezing to women of childbearing age during their regular healthcare visits. CONCLUSIONS The research results revealed that female students in Tehran universities have a positive attitude towards medical and social egg freezing, but lack sufficient knowledge about the ideal timing of childbearing. Health professionals could provide detailed information about fertility preservation and age-related infertility as part of routine healthcare visits or reproductive health planning. Additionally, expanding supportive policies and incentives for childbearing established by the government to cover the costs of fertility preservation would be beneficial.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the live birth outcome following oocyte thaw in women who underwent social egg freezing at Guy's Hospital, alongside a detailed published literature review to compare published results with the current study. A retrospective cohort study was conducted between January 2016 and March 2022 for all women who underwent egg freezing during this period. Overall, 167 women had 184 social egg freezing cycles. The mean age at freeze was 37.1 years and an average of 9.5 eggs were frozen per retrieval. In total, 16% of the women returned to use their frozen eggs. The mean egg thaw survival rate post egg thaw was 74%. The mean egg fertilisation rate was 67%. The pregnancy rate achieved per embryo transfer was 48% and the live birth rate per embryo transfer was 35%. We also noted that irrespective of age at freezing, a significantly high live birth rate was achieved when the number of eggs frozen per patient was 15 or more. Despite the rapid increase in social egg freezing cycles, the utilisation rate remains low. Pregnancy and live birth rate post thaw are encouraging if eggs are frozen at a younger age and if 15 eggs or more were frozen per patient.

Abstract
Although a wealth of data has been published regarding fertility preservation (FP) in women with malignant diseases who receive gonadotoxic treatment, the role of FP in non-malignant conditions has been studied to a much lesser extent. These include benign haematological, autoimmune, and genetic disorders, as well as a multitude of benign gynaecological conditions (BGCs) that may compromise ovarian reserve and/or reproductive potential due to pathogenic mechanisms or as a result of medical or surgical treatments. Alongside accumulating data that document the reproductive potential of cryopreserved oocytes and ovarian tissue, there is potential interest in FP for women with BGCs at risk of infertility; however, there are currently insufficient data about FP in women with BGCs to develop guidelines for clinical practice. The purpose of this article is to appraise the available evidence regarding FP for BGC and discuss potential strategies for FP based on estimated ovarian impairment and on short-term and long-term reproductive goals of patients. Cost-effectiveness considerations and patients' perspectives will also be discussed.

Abstract
Purpose Increasing numbers of women are opting to undergo non-medical oocyte cryopreservation (NMOC). In this report, we present experience at our clinic and discuss NMOC in Japan. Methods We followed the progress of 403 women who underwent NMOC at our clinic between 2014 and 2021, totaling 592 reproductive cycles. Results In total, 61 women underwent oocyte warming and fertility treatment. Of these, 13 women gave birth to 14 children. The median age at first oocyte cryopreservation was 38.3 years, and the oldest pregnant woman was 42 years. Most clients (60%) were in their late 30s. The median time between first oocyte cryopreservation and warming was 3.0 years. One woman was able to achieve a live birth with four vitrified oocytes. Conclusions This is the first report in Japan documenting pregnancies and childbirths resulting from NMOC. Ideally, women hope to achieve natural pregnancy between 20 and 32 years of age. NMOC is an option for individuals who are unable to pursue pregnancy during optimal reproductive years and wish to preserve their fertility for future attempts. NMOC is recommended in cases with few indications, and it is necessary to continue accumulating data on its long-term safety and effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The previous model-based cost-effectiveness analyses regarding elective oocyte cryopreservation remained debatable, while the usage rate may influence the cost per live birth. The aim of this study is to disclose the usage and cost-effectiveness of the planned cryopreserved oocytes after oocyte thawing in real-world situations. METHODS This was a retrospective single-center observational study. Women who electively cryopreserved oocytes and returned to thaw the oocytes were categorized as thawed group. The oocytes were fertilized at our center and the sperm samples for each individual was retrieved from their respective husbands. Clinical outcomes were traced and the cumulative live birth rate per thawed case was calculated. The costs from oocyte freezing cycles to oocyte thawing, and embryo transfer cycles were accordingly estimated. The cumulative cost per live birth was defined by the cumulative cost divided by the live births per thawed case. RESULTS We recruited 645 women with 840 oocyte retrieval cycles for elective oocyte freezing from November 2002 to December 2020. The overall usage rate was 8.4% (54/645). After the storage duration exceeded ten years, the probabilities of thawing oocytes were 10.6%, 26.6%, and 12.7% from women who cryopreserved their oocytes at the age ≤ 35 years, 36-39 years, and ≥ 40 years, respectively (P = 0.304). Among women who thawed their oocytes, 31.5% (17/54) of women achieved at least one live birth. For the age groups of ≤ 35 years, 36-39 years, and ≥ 40 years, the cumulative live birth rates per thawed case were 63.6%, 42.3%, and 17.6%, respectively (P = 0.045), and the cumulative costs for one live birth were $11,704, $17,189, and $35,642, respectively (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The overall usage rate was 8.4% in our cohort. The cumulative live birth rate was greatest in the youngest group and the cumulative cost per live birth was highest in the oldest group, which was threefold greater than that in the group aged ≤ 35 years. The findings added to the limited evidence of the usage rate in real-world situations, which could hopefully aid future analysis and decision-making in public health policy and for women willing to preserve fertility. Abstract
Age-related fertility decline (ARFD) is a prevalent concern amongst western cultures due to the increasing age of first-time motherhood. Elective oocyte and embryo cryopreservation remain the most established methods of fertility preservation, providing women the opportunity of reproductive autonomy to preserve their fertility and extend their childbearing years to prevent involuntary childlessness. Whilst ovarian cortex cryopreservation has been used to preserve reproductive potential in women for medical reasons, such as in pre- or peripubertal girls undergoing gonadotoxic chemotherapy, it has not yet been considered in the context of ARFD. As artificial reproductive technology (ART) and surgical methods of fertility preservation continue to evolve, it is a judicious time to review current evidence and consider alternative options for women wishing to delay their fertility. This article critically appraises elective oocyte cryopreservation as an option for women who use it to mitigate the risk of ARFD and introduces the prospect of elective ovarian cortex cryopreservation as an alternative.

Abstract
Like other assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures, the cost of egg freezing (EF) is significant, presenting a potential barrier to access. Given recent technological advancements and rising demand for EF, it is timely to reassess how EF is funded. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted in Victoria, Australia and was completed by 656 female individuals. Participants were asked their views on funding for both medical and non-medical EF. The median age of participants was 28 years (interquartile range 23-37 years) and most participants were employed (44% full-time, 28% part-time, 33% students). There was very high support for public funding for medical EF (n = 574, 87%), with 302 (46%) participants indicating support for the complete funding of medical EF through the public system. Views about funding for non-medical EF were more divided; 43 (6%) participants supported full public funding, 235 (36%) supported partial public funding, 150 (23%) supported coverage through private health insurance, and 204 (31%) indicated that non-medical EF should be self-funded. If faced with the decision of what to do with surplus eggs, a high proportion of participants indicated that they would consider donation (71% to research, 59% to a known recipient, 52% to a donor programme), indicating that eggs surplus to requirements could be a potential source of donor eggs. This study provides insights that could inform policy review, and suggests revisiting whether the medical/non-medical distinction is a fair criterion to allocate funding to ART.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION What are women's motivations for social egg freezing and what are their experience regarding the egg freezing process in the Netherlands? SUMMARY ANSWER Women who engage in social egg freezing are driven by feelings of fear, including the fear of not finding the suitable partner and fear of declining fecundity. They aim to fulfil their desire for having children with a partner. Alternative ways to achieve parenthood are considered if the conventional way of motherhood cannot be achieved. WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN The reasons for social egg freezing are multi-fold, including amongst others economic, social, health, educational and career factors. The lack of a (stable) partnership, and a strong desire for a genetically related child with a committed partner are considered main reasons. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION A qualitative interview study, including 20 women, was conducted in the Netherlands between October 2018 and August 2019. MATERIAL & METHODS Women between 32 and 42 years of age, who had completed the egg freezing trajectory for social reasons at three different medical centres in the Netherlands participated in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted face-to-face or via a teleconference tool and were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The interviews lasted between 30 and 90 minutes. Data were analysed using thematic content analysis. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE This study identified one overall theme: "an unconventional path to conventional motherhood" and five interpretive theme's: "fear of not becoming a mother, peace of mind, an unconventional path to motherhood, conventional perspectives, and financial discrimination". Women were afraid of not becoming a mother in the future. Despite the fact that all kinds of alternatives were available, conventional motherhood was preferred. Women chose a non-conventional path to reach this goal and they had to let go of traditional perspectives. Although they had the feeling of being discriminated financially, it gave them 'peace of mind'. The preserved oocytes gave them the sense of a fertility insurance for the future. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION The demographic profile displays a high degree of homogeneity, which may impact generalisability. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS This study contributes to a better understanding of women who cryopreserve their oocytes for social reasons. Healthcare professionals need to be aware of these motivations and perspectives. Understanding the underlying factors and emotional considerations in the decision-making process is crucial to provide proper counselling and optimal patient-centered infertility care. Furthermore, it is important to raise awareness about the possibilities of pursuing (alternative) motherhood to support effective policy making. However, social egg freezing remains closest to women's preferences of conventional motherhood, even in a country like the Netherlands, which is known for its progressiveness and focus on gender equality. Last, policy makers need to stimulate cost-effectivity and prevent younger women of pursuing social egg freezing as kind of a prevention method.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION What is the clinical experience of patients who have undergone planned oocyte cryopreservation and oocyte thawing and warming? DESIGN Retrospective observational cohort study. All women who completed planned oocyte cryopreservation at a single large university-affiliated fertility centre between June 2006 and October 2020 were identified, including the subset who returned to use their oocytes. Patients who underwent oocyte cryopreservation for medical reasons were excluded. Baseline demographics, oocyte cryopreservation and thawing-warming cycle parameters, and clinical outcomes, were extracted from the electronic medical record. The primary outcome was cumulative live birth rate (LBR), and secondary outcomes were cumulative clinical pregnancy rate (CPR), and CPR and LBR per transfer. Results were stratified by age at time of cryopreservation (<38 and ≥38 years). RESULTS Of 921 patients who underwent planned oocyte cryopreservation, 68 (7.4%) returned to use their oocytes. Forty-six patients (67.6%) completed at least one embryo transfer. The CPR per transfer was 47.5% and LBR was 39.3%. The cumulative LBR per patient who initiated thawing-warming was 32.4%. Cycle outcomes were not significantly different in patients aged younger than 38 years and those aged 38 years or over. No patient aged 40 years or older (n = 6) was successful with their cryopreserved oocytes. Ten patients (14.7%) who were unsuccessful with their cryopreserved oocytes achieved a live birth using donor oocytes, with most (7/10) of these patients aged 38 years and older. CONCLUSION Only a small percentage of patients returned to use their oocytes, and 32% of those were able to achieve a live birth.

Abstract
Increasing numbers of women are undergoing oocyte or tissue cryopreservation for medical or social reasons to increase their chances of having genetic children. Social egg freezing (SEF) allows women to preserve their fertility in anticipation of age-related fertility decline and ineffective fertility treatments at older ages. The purpose of this study was to summarize recent findings focusing on the challenges of elective egg freezing. We performed a systematic literature review on social egg freezing published during the last ten years. From the systematically screened literature, we identified and analyzed five main topics of interest during the last decade: (a) different fertility preservation techniques, (b) safety of freezing, (c) usage rate of frozen oocytes, (d) ethical considerations, and (e) cost-effectiveness of SEF. Fertility can be preserved for non-medical reasons through oocyte, embryos, or ovarian tissue cryopreservation, with oocyte vitrification being a new and optimal approach. Elective oocyte cryopreservation is better accepted, supports social gender equality, and enhances women's reproductive autonomy. Despite controversies, planned oocyte cryopreservation appears as a chosen strategy against age-related infertility and may allow women to feel that they are more socially, psychologically, and financially stable before motherhood.

Abstract
Demand for oocyte freezing in absence of a medical indication is growing as women delay childbirth and seek to extend the window of opportunity for parenthood. The optimum age for oocyte freezing is below 35 years, whereas currently the mean age of women undergoing oocyte freezing in the UK is 38 years. Nearly half of women undergoing oocyte freezing are not in a relationship. The treatment is not publicly funded and the average price for a complete oocyte freezing and thawing cycle, including annual storage fees, could reach over £7000. The live birth rate per oocyte thaw cycle is 18% and is influenced by age at the time of oocyte freezing. Women considering social oocyte freezing should be thoroughly counselled about the efficacy, limitations, cost implications and alternatives to oocyte freezing and provided with the appropriate support to enable a truly informed reproductive choice.

Abstract
The trend towards postponement of childbearing has seen increasing numbers of women turning towards oocyte banking for anticipated gamete exhaustion (AGE banking), which offers a realistic chance of achieving genetically connected offspring. However, there are concerns around the use of this technology, including social/ethical implications, low rate of utilisation and its cost-effectiveness. The same societal trends have also resulted in an increased demand and unmet need for donor oocytes, with many women choosing to travel overseas for treatment. This has its own inherent social, medical, financial and psychological sequelae. We propose a possible pathway to address these dual realities. The donation of oocytes originally stored in the context of AGE banking, with appropriate compensatory mechanisms, would ameliorate AGE banking concerns, while simultaneously improving the supply of donor oocytes. This proposed arrangement will result in tangible benefits for prospective donors, recipients and society at large.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of women who undergo elective oocyte cryopreservation (EOC) in the hope of preserving their fertility is increasing. Fertility clinic websites often serve as the first point of contact for women contemplating EOC. There are no guidelines for Australian fertility clinics regarding how information about procedures should be presented. AIM To assess the quality of information presented on EOC on Australian fertility clinic websites. MATERIALS AND METHODS A desktop audit was conducted of the websites of Australian fertility clinics offering EOC (n = 21) and the information provided about EOC was recorded. To allow comparison, a scoring matrix used in a study of the quality of EOC information on clinic websites in the USA was used to assess the quality of the information. The possible range of scores on this measure is 0-13. RESULTS The mean information quality score for all clinic websites was 4.3 (range 2-8). More than half of the clinic websites (57%) had scores classified as 'poor', indicating that women are not receiving the information they need to make well-informed choices. CONCLUSION Providing information on clinic websites that is transparent and scientifically accurate, that states the risks involved in the procedure, and its full cost is essential to allow women to make informed decisions. The scoring matrix used in this study to assess the quality of information relating to EOC can guide best practice for clinics in advertising EOC to prospective customers.

Abstract
In the last few decades, there have been tremendous developments of assisted reproductive technologies, but the outcome of in vitro fertilization is highly dependent on the age of the oocyte. The introduction of vitrification offers a possibility to freeze eggs proactively in younger years and use them at later ages, also called social egg freezing. Knowledge about age-related fertility decline is insufficient among many women, and there is an overoptimistic trust that in vitro fertilization can overcome this. The awareness of proactive egg freezing is limited, both among doctors and in the general population. This review aims at increasing the knowledge about proactive egg freezing and offers a means to advise women correctly. It deals with national guidelines, the best age and optimal number of eggs to freeze, and the chance to succeed. Creating more public awareness about age-linked fertility decline and elective egg freezing may help women reproduce at their own pace - to take control of their fertility.

Abstract
Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) commonly occur during reproductive years. Given the good prognosis, fertility-sparing surgery can be considered in young women wishing to preserve their fertility. However, conservative management exposes patients to the risk of recurrence. In these cases, the new surgery may be radical (completing the removal of both adnexa) or, when conservative, it may be associated with relevant damage to the ovarian reserve. In this study, we report on two women who decided to perform ovarian hyper-stimulation and oocyte cryostorage at the time of the diagnosis of recurrence, but before undergoing the new surgery. They both obtained a satisfactory number of oocytes, the retrieval was unremarkable, and no main detrimental effects on the ovarian lesions were noticed. These two cases suggest that ovarian hyper-stimulation and oocyte retrieval before planned surgery for BOT recurrence is a feasible option.

AbstractActive duty military service and deployment has the potential to compromise fertility through combat-related genitourinary injury, gonadotoxic exposures, and physical separation from a partner. Despite a growing interest among the military community as well as promising efficacy and safety data, fertility preservation remains an uncovered benefit for active duty soldiers. In 2016, the Pentagon proposed a program that would cover oocyte and sperm cryopreservation for any member of the active duty military desiring its use. Regrettably, that funding was not secured and predeployment fertility preservation remains an out-of-pocket expense. Today, advocacy groups, non-for-profit organizations, and physicians remain vigilant in their attempts to drive another government initiative through Congress. While activism continues, it is important to stress the value of fertility preservation counseling in soldiers' predeployment preparation and military family planning.

Abstract
The aim of this review is to provide current knowledge on fertility preservation for non-medical reasons in women willing to postpone childbearing. The topic is highly debatable, starting from disagreement about its terminology, the number of eggs necessary to predict chances of success, and the safety and socio/ethical point of view. Cost analysis and discrepancies among countries' recommendations and regulations are described to confirm the controversies and unsolved issues around this very interesting topic. Finally, an overview on the returning rate of women among "egg bankers" and reasons behind their decisions are illustrated.
