Abstract
Protein malnourishment (PM) is common among the elderly, but how aging and PM impact hematopoiesis is not fully understood. This study aimed to assess how aging and PM affect the hematopoietic regulatory function of bone marrow (BM) mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Young and aged male C57BL/6J mice were fed with normoproteic or hypoproteic diets and had their nutritional, biochemical, and hematological parameters evaluated. BM MSCs were characterized and had their secretome, gene expression, autophagy, reactive oxygen species production (ROS), and DNA double-stranded breaks evaluated. The modulation of hematopoiesis by MSCs was assayed using in vitro and in vivo models. Lastly, BM invasiveness and mice survival were evaluated after being challenged with leukemic cells of the C1498 cell line. Aging and PM alter biochemical parameters, changing the peripheral blood and BM immunophenotype. MSC autophagy was affected by aging and the frequencies for ROS and DNA double-stranded breaks. Regarding the MSCs' secretome, PM and aging affected CXCL12, IL-6, and IL-11 production. Aging and PM up-regulated Akt1 and PPAR-γ while down-regulating Cdh2 and Angpt-1 in MSCs. Aged MSCs increased C1498 cell proliferation while reducing their colony-forming potential. PM and aging lowered mice survival, and malnourishment accumulated C1498 cells at the BM. Finally, aged and/or PM MSCs up-regulated Sox2, Nanog, Pou5f1, and Akt1 expression while down-regulating Cdkn1a in C1498 cells. Together, aging and PM can induce cell-intrinsic shifts in BM MSCs, creating an environment that alters the regulation of hematopoietic populations and favoring the development of malignant cells.

Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to determine the risk factors for undernutrition in community-dwelling older adults in Guadeloupe (Caribbean islands). Methods: We used data from the KArukera Study of Aging-Drugs Storage (KASADS), an observational cross-sectional study of community-dwelling older people living in Guadeloupe. The Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) was used to assess the risk of undernutrition. An MNA-short form (SF) score ≤11 defined the risk of undernutrition. Depression was assessed using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale, cognitive function was assessed using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), frailty was assessed using the Study of Osteoporotic Fractures index (SOF), and dependency was assessed using Lawton's instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) scale. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the correlates of undernutrition. Results: The study sample comprised 115 patients aged 65 years or older; 67.8% were women, and the mean age was 76 ± 7.8 years. The prevalence of undernutrition was 21.7% (95% CI = 15.2-30.1%). In our bivariate analysis, the risk of undernutrition was associated with MMSE score, IADL score, frailty, and CES-D score. We found no significant relation between nutrition risk and other variables, such as marital status, pain, or polypharmacy. In the multivariate analysis, the factors associated with the risk of undernutrition were MMSE score (Odd-Ratio (OR): 0.74 (0.58-0.97)) and CES-D score (OR: 1.13 (1.02-1.27)). Conclusions: Cognitive decline and the risk of depression were independently associated with the risk of undernutrition in community-dwelling older people in Guadeloupe. Although we cannot imply causality in this relation, the detection of these three key geriatric syndromes in community-dwelling elders is essential to prevent adverse health outcomes. Further studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

Abstract
The prevalence of undernutrition is 4-10% in elderly people living at home, 15-38% in those living in institutions. Fifty percent of hospitalized elderly are undernourished and 40% are hospitalized for the consequences of undernutrition. This is a major problem in geriatrics.

Abstract
Background Orthostatic Hypotension (OH) and malnutrition, are common health problems in elderly hypertensive patients. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between malnutrition and OH in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods This is a cross-sectional single-center study. All participants underwent a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), in which malnutrition was defined according to the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria based on four different methods of diagnosing muscle mass loss. Furthermore, the accuracy of these methods was verified by Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify risk factors for OH in elderly hypertensive patients. Results For GLIM criteria, when Fat-Free Mass Index (FFMI) was the gold standard for muscle mass loss, the Area Under ROC Curve (AUC) values for Upper Arm Circumference (UAC), Calf Circumference (CC), and Hand Grip Strength (HGS) were 0.784, 0.805, and 0.832, with moderate accuracy in diagnosing malnutrition. Multivariate analysis showed that females, Diabetes Mellitus (DM), diuretics, and malnutrition diagnosed by GLIM-UAC were risk factors for OH in elderly hypertensive patients. Conclusion Prompt detection of malnutrition in the elderly and attention to changes in UAC may be critical. Similarly, we should strengthen medication and disease management in elderly hypertensive patients.

Abstract
The older population accounts for almost 60% of new cancers. Their management is a public health problem and is complex. It raises different questions: Is the patient's prognosis linked to cancer or another pathology? The heterogeneity of this population emphasises the importance of the overall condition assessment, in particular to avoid over-treatment (or under-treatment), and to be able to identify frail or vulnerable elderly patients who are at risk of having more treatment toxicities. Through this article, we will recall the importance of geriatric in-depth evaluation (EGA) by detailing the different factors that impact the therapeutic decision, tolerance to treatments… This EGA is however time-consuming and not all patients can be evaluated. In order to identify the subjects covered by this EGA, screening scales have been developed. Finally, we will develop the place of research in oncogeriatric management.

Abstract
Background The nonprotein calorie/nitrogen (NPC/N) ratio of food remains poorly investigated. Thus, this study examined the nutritional factors that influence the choice of discharge destination for geriatric patients. Methods We retrospectively investigated the patient characteristics, clinical laboratory test results, and hospital food consumption of 65 geriatric patients (80.0 ± 8.2 years; 31 males, 34 females), who were receiving oral nutritional support at a small mixed-care hospital and further explored their discharge destinations. The NPC/N ratios were calculated according to the menus for the meals provided during the first 4 weeks after admission. For logistic regression analysis, the objective variables were discharge destinations (i.e., nursing care facilities including home or medical institutions) whereas the predictor variables were age, sex, nursing care level, hospitalization duration, serum albumin level (Alb), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and NPC/N ratio. Results Compared with age and nursing care level, sex (partial regression coefficient (B) = -5.140, P = 0.002), hospitalization duration (B = 0.077, P = 0.004), Alb (B = 3.223, P = 0.013), eGFR (B = -0.071, P = 0.019), and NPC/N ratio (B = -0.224, P = 0.001) are significantly correlated with the selection of discharge destination. Conclusions For geriatric patients who went to medical institutions, the need for prolonged hospitalization, male sex, hospitalization duration, stable serum Alb, low eGFR, low NPC/N ratio (i.e., high protein proportion), and the quantity of hospital food consumed were the possible factors that influence their discharge destination.
