First-Principles Investigations of Novel Guanidine-Based Dyes

In the pursuit of finding efficient D-π-A organic dyes as photosensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), first-principles calculations of guanidine-based dyes [A1-A18] were executed using density functional theory (DFT). The various electronic and optical properties of guanidine-based organic dyes with different D-π-A structural modifications were investigated. The structural modification of guanidine-based dyes largely affects the properties of molecules, such as excitation energies, the oscillator strength dipole moment, the transition dipole moment, and light-harvesting efficiencies. The energy gap between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) is responsible for the reduction and injection of electrons. Modification of the guanidine subunit by different structural modifications gave a range of HOMO-LUMO energy gaps. Chemical and optical characteristics of the dyes indicated prominent charge transfer and light-harvesting efficiencies. The wide electronic absorption spectra of these guanidine-based dyes computed by TD-DFT-B3LYP with 6-31G, 6-311G, and cc-PVDZ basis sets have been observed in the visible region of spectra due to the presence of chromophore groups of dye molecules. Better anchorage of dyes to the surface of TiO2 semiconductors helps in charge-transfer phenomena, and the results suggested that -COOH, -CN, and -NO2 proved to be proficient anchoring groups, making dyes very encouraging candidates for DSSCs. Molecular electrostatic potential explained the electrostatic potential of organic dyes, and IR spectrum and conformational analyses ensured the suitability of organic dyes for the fabrication of DSSCs.

Preliminary anticancer evaluation of new Pd(II) complexes bearing NNO donor ligands

In this study we presented a novel series of NNO tridentate ligands generating imino, amido and oxo donor pocket for Pd(II) coordination. All the compounds were meticulously characterized by elemental analysis and advanced spectroscopic techniques, including FTIR, proton and carbon NMR. The synthesized compounds underwent rigorous evaluation for their potential as anti-cancer agents, utilizing the aggressive breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB (ATCC) and MCF-7 as a crucial model for assessing growth inhibition in cancer cells. Remarkably, the MTT assay unveiled the robust anti-cancer activity for all palladium complexes against MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells. Particularly, complex [Pd(L1)(CH3CN)] exhibited exceptional potency with an IC50 value of 25.50 ± 0.30 µM (MDA-MB-231) and 20.76 ± 0.30 µM (MCF-7), compared to respective 27.00 ± 0.80 µM and 24.10 ± 0.80 µM for cisplatin, underscoring its promising therapeutic potential. Furthermore, to elucidate the mechanistic basis for the anti-cancer effects, molecular docking studies on tyrosine kinases, an integral target in cancer research, were carried out. The outcome of these investigations further substantiated the remarkable anticancer properties inherent to these innovative compounds. This research offers a compelling perspective on the development of potent anti-cancer agents rooted in the synergy between ligands and Pd(II) complexes and presenting a promising avenue for future cancer therapy endeavors.

Design, synthesis, crystal structure, in vitro cytotoxicity evaluation, density functional theory calculations and docking studies of 2-(benzamido) benzohydrazide derivatives as potent AChE and BChE inhibitors

A series of hydrazone derivatives of 2-(benzamido) benzohydrazide was designed, synthesized, and characterized utilizing FTIR, NMR and UV spectroscopic techniques along with mass spectrometry. Compound 10 was also characterized through X-ray crystallography. These synthesized compounds were assessed for their potential as anti-Alzheimer's agents by checking their AChE and BChE inhibition properties by in vitro analysis. The synthesized derivatives were also evaluated for their antioxidant potential along with cytotoxicity studies. The results clearly indicated that dual inhibition of both the enzymes acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) was achieved by most of the compounds (03-13), showing varying IC50values. Remarkably, compound 06 (IC50 = 0.09 ± 0.05 for AChE and 0.14 ± 0.05 for BChE) and compound 13 (IC50 = 0.11 ± 0.03 for AChE and 0.10 ± 0.06 for BChE) from the series showed IC50 values comparable to the standard donepezil (IC50 = 0.10 ± 0.02 for AChE and 0.14 ± 0.03 for BChE). Moreover, the derivative 11 also exhibited selective inhibition against BChE with IC50 = 0.12 ± 0.09. Meanwhile, compounds 04 and 10 exhibited good anti-oxidant activities, showing % scavenging of 95.06% and 82.55%, respectively. Cytotoxicity studies showed that the synthesized compounds showed cell viability greater than 80%; thus, these compounds can be safely used as drugs. DFT and molecular docking studies also supported the experimental findings.

Terpyridine-metal complexes: effects of different substituents on their physico-chemical properties and density functional theory studies

A series of different substituted terpyridine (tpy)-based ligands have been synthesized by Kröhnke method. Their binding behaviour was evaluated by complexing them with Co(II), Fe(II) and Zn(II) ions, which resulted in interesting coordination compounds with formulae, [Zn(tpy)₂]PF₆, [Co(tpy)₂](PF₆)₂, [Fe(tpy)₂](PF₆)₂ and interesting spectroscopic properties. Their absorption and emission behaviours in dilute solutions were investigated in order to explain structure-property associations and demonstrate the impact of different aryl substituents on the terpyridine scaffold as well as the role of the metal on the complexes. Photo-luminescence analysis of the complexes in acetonitrile solution revealed a transition from hypsochromic to bathochromic shift. All the compounds displayed remarkable photo-luminescent properties and various maximum emission peaks owing to the different nature of the functional groups. Furthermore, the anti-microbial potential of ligands and complexes was evaluated with docking analyses carried out to investigate the binding affinity of terpyridine-based ligands along with corresponding proteins (shikimate dehydrogenase and penicillin-binding protein) binding sites. To obtain further insight into molecular orbital distributions and spectroscopic properties, density functional theory calculations were performed for representative complexes. The photophysical activity and interactions between chromophore structure and properties were both investigated experimentally as well as theoretically.

Efficient Synthesis, SC-XRD, and Theoretical Studies of O-Benzenesulfonylated Pyrimidines: Role of Noncovalent Interaction Influence in Their Supramolecular Network

Crystalline organic compounds, 2-amino-6-methylpyrimidin-4-yl benzenesulfonate (AMPBS) and 2,6-diaminopyrimidin-4-yl benzenesulfonate (DAPBS), were prepared via O-benzenesulfonylation of 2-amino-6-methylpyrimidin-4-ol 1 and 2,6-diaminopyrimidin-4-ol 2, respectively. The structural interpretations were achieved unambiguously by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) analysis. The Hirshfeld surface study showed that C-H···O, N-H···N, and especially C-H···C hydrogen bond interactions are the key contributors to the intermolecular stabilization in the crystal. Density functional theory (DFT) studies were used to obtain a better understanding of natural bond orbitals (NBOs) and nonlinear optical (NLO) analysis for AMPBS and DAPBS at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level. The time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT)/CAM-B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level was employed for frontier molecular orbital analysis of both compounds. DFT-based vibrations for C-H, C=N, N-H, and stretching for C-C were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. Overall, the theoretical findings were acquired in correspondence to the SC-XRD-based parameters. Intracharge transfer occurred in AMPBS and DAPBS compounds, which was evaluated through FMO activity. Global reactivity indices had been acquired utilizing energies of HOMO-LUMO orbitals. Overall, the theoretical findings related to AMPBS and DAPBS consist of promising correspondence to experimental findings. The theoretical-based study also exhibited that both AMPBS and DAPBS compounds contain promising NLO features.

Spectroscopic (FTIR, FT-Raman), molecular electrostatic potential, NBO and HOMO-LUMO analysis of P-bromobenzene sulfonyl chloride based on DFT calculations

The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of P-bromobenzene sulfonyl chloride (P-BBSC) have been recorded in the regions 4000-400 cm(-1) and 3500-50 cm(-1), respectively. Utilizing the observed FTIR and FT-Raman data, a complete vibrational assignment and analysis of the fundamental modes of the compound were carried out. The optimum molecular geometry, harmonic vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities and Raman scattering activities, were calculated by density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP) method. A good agreement between experimental and calculated normal modes of vibrations has been observed. A detailed interpretation of the infrared and Raman spectra of P-BBSC is also reported based on total energy distribution (TED). Stability of the molecule arising from hyperconjugative interactions, charge delocalization have been analyzed using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. The MEP map shows the negative potential sites are on oxygen atoms as well as the positive potential sites are around the hydrogen atoms. The UV-vis spectral analysis of P-BBSC has also been done which confirms the charge transfer of the molecule.

Tautomeric transformations and reactivity of isoindole and sila-indole: A computational study

In this work, the tautomeric transformations and reactivity of isoindole and sila-isoindole molecules has been explored using the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory in gas and solution phases. These calculations show that isoindole isomer has more stability rather than 1-h-isoindole. There is identical trend in silated species. The frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) and band gap energy calculations were performed at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level in gas and various solvent. Solvent effects have been analyzed by using the self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) method based on polarizable continuum model (PCM) in chloroform, chlorobenzene, dichloromethane and tetrahydrofurane. Thermodynamic parameters calculated at room temperature have been analyzed. Also, electron affinities were computed. Local reactivity descriptors as Fukui functions [Formula: see text] local softness [Formula: see text] and electrophilicity indices [Formula: see text] analyses are performed to find out the reactive sites within molecule. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to compute nitrogen-14 nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectroscopy parameters.

Molecular structure, vibrational investigation of 2-chloro-α-α-α-trifluoro-3,5-dinitrotoluene using DFT (LSDA, B3LYP, B3PW91 and MPW1PW91) and UV-Vis absorption spectra in organic solvents: a IEF-PCM/TD-DFT study

Theoretical Spectrograms (IR and Raman) have been constructed and compared with the experimental FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra. The effect of solvent polarity on the optimized structure is studied by the density functional theory calculation (LSDA, B3LYP, B3PW91 and MPW1PW91 with 6-311++G(d,p)) in gas phase and selected solvents benzene (non-polar solvent), tetrahydrofuran THF (polar aprotic solvent), DMSO, Methanol (polar solvent) and water (protic solvent). In addition variation of dipole moment and charges on atoms in the solvents are studied. With the help of TD-DFT study, the electrostatic effects of different solvents and the energy difference between the excited electronic states noticeably depends on the size of the solute cavity used in the PCM calculations. On the basis of the thermodynamic properties of the title compound at different temperatures have been calculated in gas phase, reverling the correlations between standard heat capacities (C), standard entropies (S), standard enthalpy (H) and vibrational and rotational temperatures. The solvation influence on the geometrical parameters, atomic charges and HOMO-LUMO energies was estimated with the use of PCM method. The presence of solvent did not alter these parameters, but affected the orbital energies. The aggregation phenomena were studied with dimer and trimer structure of the title compound.

Vibrational spectra, molecular structure, NBO, UV, NMR, first order hyperpolarizability, analysis of 4-Methoxy-4'-Nitrobiphenyl by density functional theory

In this study, geometrical optimization, spectroscopic analysis, electronic structure and nuclear magnetic resonance studies of 4-Methoxy-4'-Nitrobiphenyl (abbreviated as 4M4'NBPL) were investigated by utilizing HF and DFT/B3LYP with 6-31G(d,p) as basis set. The equilibrium geometry, vibrational wavenumbers and the first order hyperpolarizability of the 4M4'NBPL have been calculated with the help of density functional theory computations. The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra were recorded in the region 4000-400 cm(-1) and 3500-50 cm(-1) respectively. Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis is also used to explain the molecular stability. The UV-Vis absorption spectra of the title compound dissolved in chloroform were recorded in the range of 200-800 cm(-1). The HOMO-LUMO energy gap explains the charge interaction taking place within the molecule. Good correlation between the experimental (1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shifts in chloroform solution and calculated GIAO shielding tensors were found. The dipole moment, linear polarizability and first order hyperpolarizability values were also computed. The linear polarizability and first order hyperpolarizability of the studied molecule indicate that the compound is a good candidate of nonlinear optical materials. The chemical reactivity and thermodynamic properties of 4M4'NBPL at different temperature are calculated. In addition, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) analysis were investigated using theoretical calculations.

Evaluation of DNA Binding, Cleavage, and Cytotoxic Activity of Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) Schiff Base Complexes of 1-Phenylindoline-2,3-dione with Isonicotinohydrazide

One new series of Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) Schiff base complexes was prepared through the condensation reaction between 1-phenylindoline-2,3-dione with isonicotinohydrazide followed by metalation, respectively. The Schiff base ligand(L), (E)-N'-(2-oxo-1-phenylindolin-3-lidene)isonicotinohydrazide, and its complexes were found soluble in DMF and DMSO solvents and characterized by using the modern analytical and spectral techniques such as elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic moments, IR, NMR, UV-visible, Mass, CV, and EPR. The elemental analysis data of ligand and their complexes were well agreed with their calculated values in which metal and ligand stoichiometry ratio 1 : 2 was noted. Molar conductance values indicated that all the complexes were found to be nonelectrolytes. All the complexes showed octahedral geometry around the central metal ions. Herein, we better characterized DNA binding with the complexes by UV-visible and CD spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques. The DNA cleavage experiments were carried out by Agarose gel electrophoresis method and the cytotoxicity experiments by MTT assay method. Based on the DNA binding, cleavage, and cytotoxicity studies, Cu and Ni complexes were found to be good anticancer agents against AGS-human gastric cancer cell line.

Vibrational assignment of the spectral data, molecular dipole moment, polarizability, first hyperpolarizability, HOMO-LUMO and thermodynamic properties of 5-nitoindan using DFT quantum chemical calculations

The vibrational spectra of 5-nitroindan (NI) was computed using B3LYP methodology with 6-31G(*) and 6-31G(**) basis sets. The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra were recorded in the region 4000-400 cm(-1) and 4000-50 cm(-1) respectively. A similarity was achieved between the observed and calculated frequencies by refinement of the scale factors. The (1)H and (13)CNMR chemical shifts results were also compared with the experimental values. The Mulliken charges, the values of electric dipole moment (μ) of the molecule were computed using DFT calculations. The first order hyperpolarizability (β0) and related properties (β, α0, and Δα) of both are calculated using B3LYP method on the finite-field approach. The electronic properties HOMO and LUMO energies are calculated. Thermodynamic properties (heat capacity, entropy and enthalpy) of the title compound were calculated.

The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of 2-hydroxyquinoline and its derivatives have been recorded in the region 4000-400 cm(-1) and 3500-100 cm(-1), respectively. The optimized geometry, frequency and intensity of the vibrational bands of these compounds were obtained by the density functional theory using 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. The harmonic vibrational frequencies were calculated and the scaled values have been compared with experimental FTIR and FT-Raman spectra. A detailed interpretation of the infrared and Raman spectra were also reported based on total energy distribution (TED). The observed and the calculated frequencies are found to be in good agreement. The experimental spectra also coincide satisfactorily with those of theoretically simulated spectra. (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra were recorded and its corresponding nuclear magnetic resonance chemical shifts of the molecule were also calculated using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method. UV-visible spectrum of the compound was recorded and the electronic properties HOMO and LUMO energies were measured by time-dependent (TD-DFT) approach. Molecular stability and bond strength were investigated by applying the natural bond orbital analysis (NBO). The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occurs in the molecules. In addition, the non-linear optical properties were discussed from the dipole moment values and excitation wavelength in the UV-visible region.

Vibrational, electronic and quantum chemical studies of 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic-1,2-anhydride

The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic-1,2-anhydride (BTCA) have been recorded in the range 4000-400 and 4000-100 cm(-1), respectively. The complete vibrational assignments and analysis of BTCA have been performed. More support on the experimental findings was added from the quantum chemical studies performed with DFT (B3LYP, MP2, B3PW91) method using 6-311++G(**), 6-31G(**) and cc-pVTZ basis sets. The structural parameters, energies, thermodynamic parameters, vibrational frequencies and the NBO charges of BTCA were determined by the DFT method. The (1)H and (13)C isotropic chemical shifts (δ ppm) of BTCA with respect to TMS were also calculated using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method and compared with the experimental data. The delocalization energies of different types of interactions were determined.

Density functional theory, comparative vibrational spectroscopic studies, HOMO-LUMO, first hyperpolarizability analyses of 2-fluoro 5-nitrotoluene and 2-bromo 5-nitrotoluene

This work deals with the vibrational spectra of 2-fluoro 5-nitrotoluene and 2-bromo 5-nitrotoluene by quantum chemical calculations. The solid phase FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of the title compounds were recorded in the regions 4000-400 cm(-1) and 4000-50 cm(-1) respectively. The spectra were interpreted with the aid of normal co-ordinate analysis based on density functional theory (DFT) using standard B3LYP/6-31G(*) basis set for the most optimized geometry. The vibrational frequencies are calculated and scaled values are compared with experimental FTIR and FT-Raman spectra. The scaled theoretical wave numbers showed very good agreement with the experimental ones. The complete vibrational assignments are performed on the basis of the total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanical (SQM) method. (13)C and (1)H NMR chemical shifts results are compared with the experimental values.

Characterization of wood plastic composites made from landfill-derived plastic and sawdust: volatile compounds and olfactometric analysis

Application of wood plastic composites (WPCs) obtained from recycled materials initially intended for landfill is usually limited by their composition, mainly focused on release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which could affect quality or human safety. The study of the VOCs released by a material is a requirement for new composite materials. Characterization and quantification of VOCs of several WPC produced with low density polyethylene (LDPE) and polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate (PE/EVA) films and sawdust were carried out, in each stage of production, by solid phase microextraction in headspace mode (HS-SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). An odor profile was also obtained by HS-SPME and GC-MS coupled with olfactometry analysis. More than 140 compounds were observed in the raw materials and WPC samples. Some quantified compounds were considered WPC markers such as furfural, 2-methoxyphenol, N-methylphthalimide and 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol. Hexanoic acid, acetic acid, 2-methoxyphenol, acetylfuran, diacetyl, and aldehydes were the most important odorants. None of the VOCs were found to affect human safety for use of the WPC.

Molecular structure, vibrational spectral analysis, NBO, HOMO-LUMO and conformational studies of ninhydrin

The FT-IR and FT-Raman vibrational spectra of ninhydrin have been recorded in the range 4000-400 cm(-1)and 3600-50 cm(-1), respectively. A detailed vibrational spectral analysis has been carried out and assignments of the observed fundamental bands have been proposed on the basis of peak positions and relative intensities. The optimized molecular geometry, vibrational frequencies, atomic charges, dipole moment, rotational constants and several thermodynamic parameters in the ground state are calculated using ab initio HF and density functional B3LYP methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set combination. In order to find the most optimized geometry, the energy calculations are carried out for various possible conformers. Keto and enol forms of ninhydrin are also studied. The condensed summary of the principal NBOs shows the occupancy, orbital energy and the qualitative pattern of delocalization interactions of ninhydrin. The calculated HOMO-LUMO energies reveal that charge transfer occurs within the molecule. The predicted first hyperpolarizability also shows that the ninhydrin molecule have good optical quality and nonlinear optical (NLO) behavior. With the help of specific scaling procedures, the observed vibrational wave numbers in FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra are analyzed and assigned to different normal modes of the molecule.

Experimental (FT-IR and FT-Raman) and theoretical (HF and DFT) investigation, NMR, NBO, electronic properties and frequency estimation analyses on 2,4,5-trichlorobenzene sulfonyl chloride

The present work deals with the structural, electronic, and vibrational analyses of the biomolecule 2,4,5-trichlorobenzene sulfonyl chloride (TCBSC). TCBSC is a novel pharmaceutical compound used in dyes, pesticides, pigments, fluorescence brighteners and intermediate for agricultural chemicals in the manufacture of insecticides. Quantum chemical calculation of geometrical structure and energies of TCBSC was carried out by density functional theory (B3LYP) and ab initio (HF) methods at 6-311+G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p) standard basis set. The stability of the molecule arising from hyperconjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. NMR analysis shows that the isotropic chemical shifts of carbon and hydrogen atom of TCBSC are giving the reasonable shielding to the molecule. Another interesting property shows nonlinear optical (NLO) behavior. Moreover, we have not only simulated highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) but also determined the transition state and energy band gap.

Vibrational spectroscopic studies, NLO, HOMO-LUMO and electronic structure calculations of α,α,α-trichlorotoluene using HF and DFT

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of α,α,α-trichlorotoluene have been recorded and analyzed. The geometry, fundamental vibrational frequencies are interpreted with the aid of structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method and a comparative study between HF level and various basis sets combination. The fundamental vibrational wavenumbers as well as their intensities were calculated and a good agreement between observed and scaled calculated wavenumbers has been achieved. The complete vibrational assignments of wavenumbers are made on the basis of potential energy distribution (PED). The effects due to the substitutions of methyl group and halogen were investigated. The absorption energy and oscillator strength are calculated by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). The electric dipole moment, polarizability and the first hyperpolarizability values of the α,α,α-trichlorotoluene have been calculated. (1)H NMR chemical shifts were calculated by using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method with HF and B3LYP methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Moreover, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) and thermodynamic properties were performed. Mulliken and natural charges of the title molecule were also calculated and interpreted.

Density functional theory, comparative vibrational spectroscopic studies, NBO, HOMO-LUMO analyses and thermodynamic functions of N-(bromomethyl)phthalimide and N-(chloromethyl)phthalimide

Quantum mechanical calculations of energies, geometries, and vibrational wavenumbers of N-(bromomethyl)phthalimide and N-(chloromethyl)phthalimide are carried out using density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP) method with 6-31G and 6-311G(d,p) basis sets. The optimized geometrical parameters obtained by B3LYP method show good agreement with experimental data. The difference between the observed and scaled wavenumber values of most of the fundamentals is very small. A detailed interpretation of the infrared and Raman spectra of N-(bromomethyl)phthalimide and N-(chloromethyl)phthalimide was also reported. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occurs in the molecules. The thermodynamic functions of N-(bromomethyl)phthalimide and N-(chloromethyl)phthalimide have been performed at B3LYP/6-31G and B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) basis sets. The theoretical spectrograms for FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of N-(bromomethyl)phthalimide and N-(chloromethyl)phthalimide have also been constructed.

FT-IR, FT-Raman, ab initio, HF and DFT studies, NBO, HOMO-LUMO and electronic structure calculations on 4-chloro-3-nitrotoluene

In this work, the vibrational spectral analysis was carried out by using Raman and infrared spectroscopy in the range 100-4000 cm(-1) and 50-4000 cm(-1), respectively, for 4-chloro-3-nitrotoluene (C7H6NO2Cl) molecule. The molecular structure, fundamental vibrational frequencies and intensity of the vibrational bands are interpreted with the aid of structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field calculations based on Hartree Fock (HF) and density functional theory (DFT) method and different basis sets combination. The complete vibrational assignments of wavenumbers were made on the basis of potential energy distribution (PED). The scaled B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) results show the best agreement with the experimental values over the other methods. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies shows that charge transfer within the molecule. The effects due to the substitutions of methyl group, nitro group and halogen were investigated. The results of the calculations were applied to simulate spectra of the title compound, which show excellent agreement with observed spectra. Besides, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) and thermodynamic properties were performed.

FT-IR, FT-Raman and UV spectral investigation: computed frequency estimation analysis and electronic structure calculations on chlorobenzene using HF and DFT

The energy and oscillator strength calculated by Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) results complements with the experimental findings. Besides, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), and thermodynamic properties were performed. The thermodynamic properties of the title compound at different temperatures have been calculated, revealing the correlations between heat capacity (C), entropy (S), and enthalpy changes (H) and temperatures.

DFT computations and spectroscopic analysis of a pesticide: chlorothalonil

NIR FT-Raman and IR spectra of the biologically active molecule, chlorothalonil have been recorded and analyzed. The molecular geometry and vibrational wavenumbers of the title compound in the ground state have been calculated by density functional theory (DFT) with 6-31G(d) basis set. In order to obtain the information about the influence of intramolecular interaction on the molecule, the calculated geometries of chlorothalonil molecule was compared with the experimental data. The results of the optimized molecular structure gave clear evidence for the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculation of the electronic spectra has been performed and compared with the experimental UV-visible spectrum. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges. The effects of chlorine and cyanide group substituent in benzene ring in the vibrational wavenumbers have been analyzed. NBO analysis is useful to understand the intramolecular hyperconjugative interaction between lone pair Cl and sigma*(C-C) bond orbital.
