Abstract
Two copper(II) complexes [Cu(Hpmoh)(NO3)(NCS)] (1) and [Cu(peoh)(N3)]2 (2) were designed and synthesized by reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O with hydrazone Schiff base ligands, abbreviated with Hpmoh and Hpeoh. Hpmoh and Hpeoh were prepared by condensation reaction of octanoic hydrazide with pyridine-2-carboxyaldehyde and 2-acetylpyridine, respectively. Complexes 1 and 2 were characterized using different analytical techniques such as FT-IR, UV-Vis, IR, EPR and single X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses as well as computational methods (DFT). The XRD of 1 and 2 shows a mononuclear or a dinuclear structure with the copper(II) centre adopting a slightly distorted square pyramidal geometry. In water-containing solution and in DMSO, 1 and 2 undergo a partial transformation with formation of [Cu(Hpmoh)(NO3)(NCS)] (1) and [Cu(Hpmoh)(NO3)(H2O/DMSO)] (1a) in one system and [Cu(peoh)(N3)] (2a) in the other one, as supported by DFT calculations. Docking simulations confirmed that the intercalation is the preferred binding mode with DNA for 1, 1a and 2a, but suggested that the minor groove binding is also possible. A significant fluorescence quenching of the DNA-ethidium bromide conjugate was observed upon the addition of complexes 1 and 2 with a quenching constant around 104 M-1 s-1. Finally, both 1 and 2 were examined for anti-cancer activity using MDA-MB-231 (human breast adenocarcinoma) and A375 (malignant melanoma) cell lines through in vitro MTT assay which suggest comparable cancer cell killing efficacy, with the higher effectiveness of 2 due to the dissociation into two [Cu(peoh)(N3)] units.

Abstract
Novel [Pd(o-CH2C6H4P(o-tolyl)2)(histidine)] (1) and [Pd(o-CH2C6H4P(o tolyl)2)(phenylalanine)] (2) P,C-orthopalladated complexes have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy. To study the stability of the compounds in biological media, the complexes were incubated in Tris buffer during 10 days. The absorbance of the compounds remained constant, which confirmed the stability of the complexes in biological media. UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectroscopy and viscosity studies were used to investigate the binding of the complexes with native calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA). These methods along with competitive binding of methylene blue (MB) DNA show that the complexes interact with DNA via groove mode. The UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometry of BSA with complexes has shown an α-helix perturbation induced by a particular interaction between the metal complexes and BSA. In addition, the fluorescence quenching mechanism of BSA with the complexes is a static process, according to the fluorescence spectrometry of bovine serum albumin (BSA). The experimental results of site competitive replacement with specific site markers are clear indications that the complexes bind to site I of BSA. Furthermore, both complexes showed significant selective cytotoxic activity against melanoma B16F0 and colon carcinoma C26 cancer cells as well as normal fibroblast NIH cell line. Ultimately, the binding of Pd(II) complexes to DNA and BSA was verified by molecular docking experiment.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Background:
Hydrazones, one of the important classes of organic molecules, are pharmaceutical
agents comprising –CO-NH-N=CH- group in the structure therefore and exhibiting significant
biological activity.
Methods:
5-Chloro-N’-[(substituted)methylidene] pyrazine-2-carbohydrazide (3a-g) and their Pd(II)
complexes (4a-h) were synthesized and investigated in vitro anticancer activity on A549, Caco2 cancer
and normal 3T3 fibroblast cell lines, using the MTT assay.
Results:
Anticancer activity screening results revealed that some compounds showed remarkable cytotoxic
effect. Among them, 5-chloro-N'-[(4-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene] pyrazine-2-carbohydrazide
(3c) displayed higher cytotoxic activity against A549 cancer cell line than the reference drug cisplatin.
Conclusion:
Compound 3c showed high cytotoxic activity against A549 cancer cell line but it showed
low cytotoxic effect against normal 3T3 fibroblast cell line. Antiproliferative and antimetastatic effects
of 3c were determined by the real-time monitoring of cell proliferative system (RTCA DP). The cell
proliferation, metastatic and invasive activities of A549 cells were decreased due to increased concentration
of 3c.

Abstract
Two novel copper (II) substituted thiosemicarbazone Schiff base complexes [Cu(L1)(µ-SCN)]n(NO3)2 (1) and [Cu2(µ-SCN)(SCN)(L2)2](NO3) (2) have been synthesized by condensing substituted thiosemicarbazides like 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide or 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazide with 2-acetylpyridine. Both the metal complexes 1 and 2 are characterized using different spectroscopic techniques like IR, UV-Vis, ESR spectroscopy followed by elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetric measurement and single crystal X-ray structure analysis. X-ray crystal structure analysis reveal that complex 1 is polymeric while complex 2 is dimeric in nature. The coordination geometry around Cu(II) are square pyramidal in which thiosemicarbazone Schiff base ligand coordinate to the central Cu(II) atom in tridentate fashion. The prominent interaction patterns of 1 and 2 with CT-DNA were examined by employing electronic absorption and emission spectral titrations, cyclic voltammetry and viscosity measurements. All the results show that CT-DNA binds with both copper (II) complexes 1 and 2. Furthermore, protein binding ability in vitro of complexes 1 and 2 with both BSA and HSA were carried out using multispectroscopic techniques and a static quenching pattern was observed in both cases. Molecular docking study was employed to ascertain the exact mechanism of action of 1 and 2 with DNA and protein molecules (BSA and HSA). In vitro cytotoxicity activity of complexes 1 and 2 toward AGS and A549 was evaluated using MTT assay which demonstrates that both complexes 1 and 2 have superior prospectus to act as anticancer agents. Abstract
Two 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone ligands, (E)-2-(2-chlorobenzylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (HL(1)) and (E)-2-(2-nitrobenzylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (HL(2)), and its ruthenium(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. The Schiff bases act as bidentate, monobasic chelating ligands with S and N as the donor sites and are preferably found in the thiol form in all the complexes studied. The molecular structure of HL(1) and HL(2) were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. DNA binding of the compounds was investigated by absorption spectroscopy which indicated that the compounds bind to DNA via intercalation. The oxidative cleavage of the complexes with CT-DNA inferred that the effects of cleavage are dose dependent. Antioxidant study of the ligands and complexes showed significant antioxidant activity against DPPH radical. In addition, the in vitro cytotoxicity of the ligands and complexes assayed against HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines showed higher cytotoxic activity with the lower IC50 values indicating their efficiency in killing the cancer cells even at low concentrations.

Abstract
The diamine (N-N) co-ligand 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine and 2,3-diaminophathalene react individually with [RuCl(2)(dppb)(2)(μ-dppb)] to afford complexes with kinetically stable trans-[Cl(2)Ru(dppb)(N-N)] as the favoured isomer. The thermodynamically stable cis-[Cl(2)Ru(dppb)(N-N)] isomer of complex 1 was formed from the trans-1 isomer. The trans to cis isomerization reaction was conducted in CHCl(3) at RT and monitored by (31)P{(1)H} NMR. The structures of the desired complexes were characterized via elemental analyses, IR and, UV-visible spectroscopy, FAB-MS and NMR. The structure of the cis-1 isomer was determined by single crystal X-ray measurements. Both the trans-1 and cis-1 isomers were shown to have a significant catalytic role in selective hydrogenation reactions under mild conditions using cinnamic aldehyde as typical model reaction.
