Abstract
Aim: The goal of this study is to synthesize new metal complexes containing N-methyl-1-(pyridin-2-yl)methanimine and azide ligands as α-glucosidase inhibitors for Type 2 diabetes. Materials & methods: The target complexes (12-16) were synthesized by reacting N-methyl-1-(pyridin-2-yl)methanimine (L1) with sodium azide in the presence of corresponding metal salts. The investigation of target protein interactions, vibrational, electronic and nonlinear optical properties for these complexes was performed by molecular docking and density functional theory studies. Results: Among these complexes, complex 13 (IC50 = 0.2802 ± 0.62 μM) containing Hg ion showed the highest α-glucosidase inhibitory property. On the other hand, significant results were detected for complexes containing Cu and Ag ions. Conclusion: Complex 13 may be an alternate anti-diabetic inhibitor according to in vitro/docking results.

Abstract
CONTEXT In this study, we have investigated the structure, reactivity, bonding, and electronic transitions of DPA and PDTC along with their Ni-Zn complexes using DFT/TD-DFT methods. The energy gap between the frontier orbitals was computed to understand the reactivity pattern of the ligands and metal complexes. From the energies of FMO's, the global reactivity descriptors such as electron affinity, ionization potential, hardness (η), softness (S), chemical potential (μ), electronegativity (χ), and electrophilicity index (ω) have been calculated. The complexes show a strong NLO properties due to easily polarization as indicated by the narrow HOMO-LUMO gap. The polarizability and hyperpolarizabilities of the complexes indicate that they are good candidates for NLO materials. Molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps identified electrophilic and nucleophilic sites on the surfaces of the complexes. TDDFT and NBO analyses provided insights into electronic transitions, bonding, and stabilizing interactions within the studied complexes. DPA and PDTC exhibited larger HOMO-LUMO gaps and more negative electrostatic potentials compared to their metal complexes suggesting the higher reactivity. Ligands (DPA and PDTC) had absorption spectra in the range of 250 nm to 285 nm while their complexes spanned 250 nm to 870 nm. These bands offer valuable information on electronic transitions, charge transfer and optical behavior. This work enhances our understanding of the electronic structure and optical properties of these complexes. METHODS Gaussian16 program was used for the optimization of all the compounds. B3LYP functional in combination with basis sets, such as LanL2DZ for Zn, Ni and Cu while 6-311G** for other atoms like C, H, O, N, and S was used. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis is carried out to find out how the filled orbital of one sub-system interacts with the empty orbital of another sub-system. The ORCA software is used for computing spectral features along with the zeroth order regular approximation method (ZORA) to observe its relativistic effects. TD-DFT study is carried out to calculate the excitation energy by using B3LYP functional.

Abstract
In order to evaluate the structure-property relationships of Cu(II) complex by using DFT methods, the structure of the newly synthesized Cu(II) complex, [Cu(6-Brpic)2(bpy)], was investigated by XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis, and fluorescence spectroscopic methods. In addition, Hirshfeld surface and NBO analyses were fulfilled to identify possible interactions in the intermolecular and coordination environment. The five different DFT methods (HCTH, M06L, TPSSTPSS, B3LYP, and CAM-B3LYP levels), having four different functionalities (the GGA, meta-GGA, hybrid-GGA, and range-separated hybrid), were carried out so as to investigate the structure-property relationship, considering the geometric parameters (bond lengths and angles), vibrational frequencies, electronic absorption wavelengths, electronic transitions, and linear and nonlinear optical parameters. The R2 for structural and vibrational parameters, as well as MPD%, MAD, an optimal scaling factor (λ) and overall root mean square (RMS) deviation, were considered only at vibration frequencies. While it was determined that M06-L and TPSSTPSS levels gave the best results for the bond lengths and angles of the Cu(II) complex, the best results for vibrational frequencies were obtained in the HCTH method along with these methods. In NLO parameters, the static and dynamic first-order hyperpolarizability (<β(0;0,0)> and β(-ω;ω,0)/<β(-2ω;ω,ω)>) values, the largest values were obtained in the HCTH method (38.817 × 10-30 and 437.86 × 10-30/201.55 × 10-30 esu), whereas the smallest values were found to be in the CAM-B3LYP/TPSSTPSS levels (6.118 × 10-30 esu, 8.270 × 10-30/11.730 × 10-30 esu). By regarding the static γ (<γ(0;0,0,0)>) and dynamic (<γ(-ω;ω,0,0)> parameters, the largest values were calculated in the M06L (232.101 × 10-36) and HCTH (1711.52 × 10-36) methods and the smallest values were obtained in the CAM-B3LYP (43.281 × 10-36 and 60.844 × 10-36) method. In fact, it is obviously seen that the β and γ values obtained by the aforementioned DFT levels are many times higher than that of the standard molecule of urea. These results indicate that the Cu(II) complex may be used as a potential NLO material to evolve optoelectronic devices.

Abstract
Five stable tautomer and rotamers of the 2-(2-Mercaptophenyl)-1-azaazulene (thiol, thione, R1, R2, and R3) molecules were studied using density functional theory (DFT). The geometries of the studied tautomer and rotamers were fully optimized at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level. Thermodynamic calculations were performed at M06-2X/6-311G++(2d,2p) and ωB97XD/6-311G++(2d,2p) in the gas phase and ethanol solution conditions modeled by the solvation model based on density (SMD). The kinetic constant of tautomer and rotamers conversion was calculated in the temperature range 270-320 K using variational transition state theory (VTST) accompanied by one-dimensional wigner tunneling correction. Energy refinement at CCSD(T)/6-311++G(2d,2p) in the gas phase has been calculated. All the studied DFT methods qualitatively give similar tautomer stability orders in the gas phase. The ethanol solvent causes some reordering of the relative stability of 2-(2-Mercaptophenyl)-1-azaazulene conformers. The transition states for the 2-(2-Mercaptophenyl)-1-azaazulene tautomerization and rotamerization processes were also determined. The reactivity, electric dipole moment, and spectroscopic properties of the studied tautomer and rotamers were computed. The hyper-Rayleigh scattering (βHRS), and depolarization ratio (DR) exhibited promising optical properties when nonlinear optical properties were calculated.

Abstract
The synthetic utility of 6-amino-2-mercapto-3H-pyrimidin-4-one 3 as building blocks for new poly (pyrimidine) by alkylation using the bis(halo) compounds and zeolite nano-gold as a catalyst was investigated. Furthermore, the experimental findings by the theoretical Density functional theory (DFT) computations at the DFT/B3LYP level of theory, utilizing the 6-311++G (d,p) basis set in the gas phase, were used to investigate the distinct phases for Regio isomer 11a & 12a and 11b & 12b compounds was fair and of good quality. The stability of the 12a and 12b phases is higher than the other Regio isomer 11a and 11b phases, according to DFT modelling. By computing HOMO and LUMO pictures, the electronic parameters: dipole moment of these compounds in the ground state were theoretically investigated. Non-linear optical (NLO) characteristics and quantum chemical parameters were examined using frontier molecular orbital (FMO) analysis. Natural bond orbital analysis was used to characterize the charge transfer of the electron density in the investigated compounds (NBO). The molecular electrostatic potential surfaces (MEPS) plots have been generated, and absorption spectral analysis in different solvents has been theoretically and experimentally examined to better understand the reactivity spots. At the B3LYP/6-311G (d,p) level of theory, thermodynamic properties were also calculated. Finally, DFT calculations were used to connect the structure-activity relationship (SAR) with real antibacterial results for compounds 12a and 12b.

Abstract
Controlling photophysical properties is critical for the continued development of electroluminescent devices and luminescent materials. The preparation and study of novel molecules suitable as luminescent for the development of optoelectrical devices have recently received a lot of attention. Even though the as-triazine unit is a good building block for organic active substances, it is rarely used in this context. We created here novel bis-triazine derivative dyes in the far UV–Vis range by alkylation of triazine-thione derivatives with appropriate dibromo compounds. At the B3LYP/6-311**G(d,p) basis set, their optimal molecular structures were obtained. DFT technique confirmed that the new triazine derivatives are in noncoplanar with one of the two phenyl rings and the triazine plane rotating out by 102.09. Also, depending on the energy gap difference between HOMO and LUMO, some important parameters including chemical potential (π), electronegativity (χ), and chemical hardness (η) were calculated. The compounds may be readily polarized and have significant NLO characteristics, as seen by the tiny HOMO–LUMO energy gap. The calculated values for the polarizability (α) of the two new triazine derivatives have the range 6.09–10.75 × 10–24 (esu). The emission peaks seemed to move to the long-wavelength (redshift), with a rise in the fluorescence band, suggesting that the singlet excited state is more polar than the ground state. The influence of solvent polarity and the intermolecular charge transfer (ICT) processes are reflected in the photophysical properties of new fused triazine derivatives. These properties such as extinction coefficient, absorption and emission cross-sections, fluorescence quantum yield, fluorescence lifetime, oscillator strength, the dipole moment, radiative decay rate constant, the energy yield of fluorescence, and the attenuation length were assessed and discussed.

Abstract
The present work reports the theoretical investigation of Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) complexes containing Schiff bases (used as ligands) derived from the reaction of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with N-(2-aminoethyl) pyrazoles. The spectral analyses were carried out using infrared, Raman, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Vibrational analyses were performed in order to investigate the mechanisms involving metal-ligand and intra-ligand vibrations and indicated the possibility of charge transfer related to the transitions n[Formula: see text]* and [Formula: see text]*. Structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field calculations were performed via the density functional theory (DFT) method at the HSE06/6-311G(d,p)/LanL2DZ level. A thorough analysis was also conducted regarding the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and the natural bond orbital (NBO) of the complexes. The results show that these complexes have prospective application as materials for NLO. Furthermore, the NBO analysis confirms the coordination between the lone pair (LP) electrons of the donor atoms (O and N) and the metal acceptors. Finally, studies were conducted regarding the electronic properties of the complexes; among the properties investigated included the frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) and the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), allowing to determine the energy gap and charge distribution.

Abstract
A novel Zn(II) complex of 6-ClpicH and picH was synthesized and its structure was determined by XRD technique. The detailed experimental optical susceptibility and band gap, refractive index, linear polarizability, optical and electrical conductivity parameters in various concentrations were investigated by means of the UV-Vis spectroscopic data. The optical band gap, refractive index (n), linear optical susceptibility (χ(1)), third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility (χ(3)), second- and third-order nonlinear optical (β and γ) parameters were examined by using DFT/M06-L and ωB97XD/6-311++G(d,p) levels. The IC50 value of Zn(II) complex against α-glucosidase was also obtained at 0.44 mM. The experimental band gap of the Zn(II) complex at 13, 33, 44 and 94 µM concentrations in ethanol were found to be 4.38, 4.37, 4.35 and 4.28 eV, respectively. The third-order NLO susceptibility χ(3) parameter at 94 µM concentration corresponding to the photon energies of 4.6 and 5.7 eV in the UV-Vis region were observed at 206.6 × 10-13 and 294.3 × 10-13 esu, respectively. Besides, the theoretical χ(3) values were obtained at 50.58 × 10-13 and 20.37 × 10-13 esu by using M06-L level. These results indicate that Zn(II) complex could be an effective third-order NLO candidate material. In brief, the detailed theoretical and experimental structural, spectral and optical properties of the Zn(II) complex were presented comparatively.

Abstract
Gold(III) complex containing 2-pyridineethanol has been synthesized and characterized structurally by single crystal X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, electrochemical study, and DFT calculations. The Au(III) ion is four coordinated with one N-donor ligand (L) and three Cl anions. The Okuniewski's (τ'4=0.018) has been used to estimate the angular distortion from ideal square planar geometry. The vibrational spectroscopy studies, in the solid state and DMSO solution and cyclic voltammetry, have been performed to determine its stability and redox activity, respectively. A complete assignment of the IR and Raman spectra has been made based on the calculated potential energy distribution (PED). The theoretical calculations have been made for two functionals and several basis sets. The compound has been evaluated for its antiproliferative properties in a human lung adenocarcinoma cell line (A549), mouse colon carcinoma (CT26), human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), human prostate carcinoma derived from the metastatic site in the brain (DU-145), and PANC-1 human pancreas/duct carcinoma cell line and non-tumorigenic cell lines: HaCat (human keratinocyte), and HEK293T (human embryonic kidney). Au(III) complex cytotoxicity is significantly against A549 and MCF-7 cells as in the reference drug: cisplatin. Studies of the interactions of Au(III) complex with DNA, HSA (human serum albumin) have been performed. The results from modeling docking simulations indicate that the title complex exerts anticancer effects in vitro based on different mechanisms of action to compare with cisplatin.

Abstract
Herein, we report facile procedures for synthesis of a new Schiff base ligand (H2L,5-Diethylamino-2-({2-[(2-hydroxy-benzylidene)-amino]-phenylimino}-methyl)-phenol) and its Ag(I), Pd(II) and Cu(II) complexes. The structure of the H2L ligand as well as its metal complexes was deduced based on wide range of analytical, structural and spectroscopic tools, along with theoretical evidence via density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The obtained results indicated that the Schiff base (H2L) ligand acts as a tetradentate N2O2 donor with two azomethine nitrogen’s (N1, N2) and two deprotonated phenolic oxygens (O1, O2) atoms. A distorted octahedral structure is assigned to [CuL(OH2)2]·3/2H2O complex and square planar structure for PdL and AgL complexes. The electronic structure and non-linear optical (NLO) property of the prepared compounds were discussed theoretically by the B3LYP/GENECP program. Results revealed that all complexes have non-planner geometries as indicated from the dihedral angles. The charge transfer occurs within the synthesized complexes as indicated from the calculated energy gap between HOMO and LUMO energies. The H2L ligand and its complexes are excellent candidates for NLO materials as implied from their hyperpolarizabilities and polarizabilities values. The biological activities of the prepared complexes against selected microorganisms and cancer cell lines gave good growth inhibitory effect. The biocidal potencies of the ligand and its complexes can be arranged as follows: AgL > CuL > PdL > H2L, as compared to the used standard drugs. The antiproliferative activity of the studied complexes against different carcinoma cell lines such as liver (Hep-G2), breast (MCF-7) and colon (HCT-116) followed the order H2L < AgL< PdL < CuL < vinblastine. Probing the binding interactions of prepared complexes with calf thymus (CT)-DNA using electronic absorption, gel electrophoresis and viscosity measurements revealed strong interaction via intercalation modes, as also evidenced by their molecular docking study.

Abstract
Base catalysed ring opening ring closure (RORC) reaction of 6-methylchromone-3‑carbonitrile (1) with 1,3-cyclohexanedione afforded 8-methyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-chromeno[2,3-b]quinoline-4,6(3H)-dione (MDCQD). Theoretical calculations by Density Functional Theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311G (d,p) level of theory was utilized to illustrate the equilibrium geometries of MDCQD. Also, the nonlinear optical properties, simple harmonic vibrational frequencies, thermo-chemical parameters and Mullikan atomic charges were calculated. In addition, the electronic absorption spectra in polar and non polar solvents were discussed on the basis of TD-DFT calculations. A nanofiber-like structure with high aggregation was resolved by using scanning electron microscopy images and its particle sizes were measured by particle size analyzer. The spectroscopic characteristics of the prepared thin film of MDCQD were studied in a wide spectral range of 200-2500nm. The analysis of the absorption edges affords two direct optical band gaps with energies of 1.00 and 2.76eV. A characteristic emission peak of photoluminescence spectrum in the visible region was detected and has a red-shift as a result of solvent polarity. The MDCQD film based heterojunction showed rectification behavior and diode-like characteristics. The photovoltaic characteristics under illumination of 100mW/cm2 were studied. The open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current were found to be 0.22V and 4.25×10-7A/cm2, respectively. Moreover, the prepared heterojunction showed remarkable phototransient characteristics which afford the probability for the operation as a photodiode.
