Abstract
Three new phenanthroline-derived ligands were synthesized by the Schiff base condensation method. The first ligand was the result of 1,10-phenanthroline-2-carboxyaldehyde reaction with 1,4-diaminobutane (L1). The other ligands were obtained 1,6-diaminohexane (L2) and 1,8-diaminooctane (L3) with the phenanthroline aldehyde in separate reactions. The structures of all ligands were elucidated using spectral techniques such as FT-IR, 13C NMR, 1H NMR and LC ESI/MS. The geometric properties of ligands such as bond lengths, bond angles, dihedral angles, electronic properties, HOMO and LUMO energies were calculated by using the Gaussian 09w programme. Ligands were optimized with B3LYP and 6-311++G(2d,p) basis set and NMR and FT-IR spectra were calculated. Experimental and theoretical spectrum data were compared. All of the ligands showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Bacillus cereus ATCC 11778. The anticancer activities of the ligands were also determined against human breast cancer (MCF7) and prostate cancer (DU145) cell lines. In addition, which conformation of the ligands was determined by the theoretical calculations. Docking studies of ligands with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were performed using Autock Tools 1.5.6 programme.

Abstract
The use of schiff base complex against microbial agentes a has recently received more attention as a strategy to combat infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria and leishmania. This study aimed to evaluate the toxicity, antibacterial and leishmanicidal activities of the nickel (II) chloride schiff base complex ([Ni(L2)] against Leishmania amazonensis promastigote, multi-resistant bacterial strains and evaluate to modulate antibiotic activity against multi-resistant bacterial. The schiff base complex was characterized by the techniques of elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and thermal analysis (TGA/DTG/DSC). The [Ni(L2)] complex presented moderate toxicity in saline artemia (LC50 = 150.8 μg/mL). In leishmanicidal assay, the NiL2 complex showed values of IC50 of (6.079 μg/mL ± 0.05656 at the 24 h), (0.854 μg/mL ± 0.02474, 48 h) and (1.076 μg/mL ± 0.04039, 72 h). In antibacterial assay, the [Ni(L2)] complex presented significant inhibited the bacterial growth of P. aeruginosa (MIC = 256 μg/mL). However, [Ni(L2)] complex did not present clinically relevant minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC ≥1024 μg/mL) against S. aureus and E. coli. The combination of [Ni(L2)] complex and antibacterial drugs resulted in the increased antibiotic activity of gentamicin and amikacin against S. aureus and E.coli multi-resistant strains. Thus, our results showed that [Ni(L2)] complex is a promising molecule for the development of new therapies associated with aminoglycoside antibiotics and in disease control related to resistant bacteria and leishmaniasis.

Abstract
The current work reports the ultrasound-assisted synthesis of two nano binuclear copper complexes derived from novel tetradentate (N2O2) phenothiazine based Schiff bases. The synthesized compounds were characterized using the physicochemical methods, including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FE-SEM, Mass, FT-IR, UV-Vis, elemental analysis, magnetic moment and molar conductance measurements. It is found that the geometrical structure of CuII2LnCl4 is distorted tetrahedral around the copper atoms using the results of 1H NMR, UV-Vis and magnetic moment studies. In addition, CuO nano particles were produced in the nano range (14.3-12.1nm) by the thermal decomposition of the copper complexes CuO NPs were characterized using FT-IR, FE-SEM, XRD, UV-Vis and photoluminescence methods and indicated a close accordance with the standard pattern. Also, the antioxidant studies revealed that the copper complexes exhibit comparable scavenging effects (against O2 and OH) with the standard antioxidants, such as vitamin C, while, they show more antioxidant activity than ligands. Similarly, the complexes show more antibacterial activity against four gram positive and gram negative bacteria in comparison to their Schiff base ligands. furthermore, The optimized structure, Molecular orbital (M.O.), Mulliken population analysis (MPA), contour of Electrostatic Potential (ESP) and Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) map of the titled compounds were calculated base on DFT calculations that were carried out at the B3LYP levels of theory with a double basis set LANL2DZ for copper, and 6-311+G(d,p) basis set for the other atoms.

Abstract
Five Schiff bases obtained from condensation of 4-methoxybenzohydrazide with related aldehydes, namely o-vanillin, vanillin, 5-bromovanillin, 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde and 5-bromosalicylaldehyde were prepared. A detailed structural and spectroscopic study is reported. The crystal structures of four members of the family were determined and compared with one another. The hydrazones obtained from 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde and 5-bromosalicylaldehyde resulted to be isomorphic to each other. The solid-state structures are stabilized by intra-molecular O-H⋯N interactions in salicylaldehyde derivatives between the O-H moiety from the aldehyde and the hydrazone nitrogen atom. All crystals are further stabilized by inter-molecular H-bonds mediated by the crystallization water molecule. A comparative analysis between experimental and theoretical results is presented. The conformational space was searched and geometries were optimized both in gas phase and including solvent effects. The structure is predicted for the compound for which the crystal structure was not determined. Infrared and electronic spectra were measured and assigned with the help of data obtained from computational methods based on the Density Functional Theory.

Abstract
A series of new VO(IV) complexes of tetradentate N2O2 Schiff base ligands (L(1)-L(4)), were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis and elemental analysis. The structure of the complex VOL(1)⋅DMF was also investigated by X-ray crystallography which revealed a vanadyl center with distorted octahedral coordination where the 2-aza and 2-oxo coordinating sites of the ligand were perpendicular to the "-yl" oxygen. The electrochemical properties of the vanadyl complexes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. A good correlation was observed between the oxidation potentials and the electron withdrawing character of the substituents on the Schiff base ligands, showing the following trend: MeO<H<Br<Cl. We also studied the thermodynamics of formation of the complexes and kinetic aspects of their thermal decomposition. The formation constants with various substituents on the aldehyde ring follow the trend 5-OMe>5-H>5-Br>5-Cl. Furthermore, the kinetic parameters of thermal decomposition were calculated by using the Coats-Redfern equation. According to the Coats-Redfern plots the kinetics of thermal decomposition of studied complexes is of the first-order in all stages, the free energy of activation for each following stage is larger than the previous one and the complexes have good thermal stability. The preparation of VOL(1)⋅DMF yielded also another compound, one kind of vanadium oxide [VO]X, with different habitus of crystals, (platelet instead of prisma) and without L(1) ligand, consisting of a V10O28 cage, diaminium moiety and dimethylamonium as a counter ions. Because its crystal structure was also new, we reported it along with the targeted complex.

Abstract
The [Co(naphophen)(PPh3)(OH2)]ClO4 and [Co(naphophen)(PBu3)(OH2)]BF4 (where naphophen=bis(naphthaldehyde)1,2-phenylenediimine) complexes were synthesized and chracterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis techniques. The coordination geometry of the synthesized complexes were determined by X-ray crystallography. Cobalt (III) complexes have six-coordinated pseudo-octahedral geometry in which the O(1), O(2), N(1) and N(2) atoms of the Schiff base forms the equatorial plane. These complexes showed a dimeric structure via hydrogen bonding between the phenolate oxygen and the hydrogens of the coordinated H2O molecule. The theoretical calculations were also performed to optimize the structure of the complexes in the gas phase to confirm the structures proposed by X-ray crystallography. In addition, UV-Visible and IR spectra of complexes were calculated and compared with the corresponding experimental spectra to complete the experimental structural identification. The synthesized complexes were incorporated onto the Montmorillonite-K10 nanoclay via simple ion-exchange reaction. The structure and morphology of the obtained nanohybrids were identified by FT-IR, XRD, TGA/DTA, SEM and TEM techniques. Based on the XRD results of the new nanohybrid materials, the Schiff base complexes were intercalated in the interlayer spaces of clay. SEM and TEM micrographs of the clay/complex shows that the resulting hybrid nanomaterials has layer structures.

Abstract
The [Co(Me(2)Salen)(PBu(3))(OH(2))]BF4 and [Co(Me(2)Salen)(PPh(3))(Solv)]BF(4), complexes were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis techniques. The coordination geometry of [Co(Me(2)Salen)(PPh(3))(H(2)O)]BF(4) was determined by X-ray crystallography. It has been found that the complex is containing [Co(Me(2)Salen)(PPh(3))(H(2)O)]BF(4) and [Co(Me(2)Salen)(PPh(3))(EtOH)]BF(4) hexacoordinate species in the solid state. Cobalt atom exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry and the Me(2)Salen ligand has the N2O2 coordinated environment in the equatorial plane. The [Co(Me(2)Salen)(PPh(3))(H(2)O)]BF(4) complex shows a dimeric structure via hydrogen bonding between the phenolate oxygen and hydrogens of coordinated H2O molecule. These complexes were incorporated into Montmorillonite-K10 nanoclay. The modified clays were identified by FT-IR, XRD, EDX, TGA/DTA, SEM and TEM techniques. According to the XRD results of the new nanohybrid materials, the Schiff base complexes are intercalated in the interlayer spaces of the clay. SEM and TEM micrographs show that the resulting hybrid nanomaterials have layer structures. Also, TGA/DTG results show that the intercalation reaction was taken place successfully.

Abstract
A detailed structural and spectroscopic study of the disulfide Schiff base obtained from condensation of 2-aminothiophenol and o-vanillin is reported. It includes the analyses of the anhydrous and monohydrate forms of the title compound. Structures of both solids were resolved by X-ray diffraction methods. A comparison between experimental and theoretical results is presented. The conformational space was searched and geometries were optimized both in gas phase and including solvent effects. Vibrational (IR and Raman) and electronic spectra were measured and assigned with the help of computational methods based on the Density Functional Theory. Calculated MEP-derived atomic charges were calculated to predict coordination sites for metal complexes formation.

Abstract
Some new tridentate ONN Schiff base complexes of [NiL(PR3)] (where L=Salicylidene2-amino4-nitrobenzene (L(1)), 5-BrSalicylidene2-amino4-nitrobenzene (L(2)), 5-NO2Salicylidene2-amino4-nitrobenzene (L(3)), 5-MeOSalicylidene2-amino4-nitrobenzene (L(4)) and 3-MeOSalicylidene2-amino4-nitrobenzene (L(5)), R=Bu and Ph (with L(1))) were synthesised and characterized by IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The geometry of [NiL(1)(PPh3)] was determined by X-ray crystallography. It indicated that the complex had a planar structure and four coordinates in the solid state. The thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermoanalysis (DTA) of the synthesized complexes were carried out in the range of 20-600°C, leading to the decomposition of L(1)-L(3) type in three stages and of L(4)-L(5) and [NiL(1)(PPh3)] type in four stages. Thermal decomposition of the complexes was closely the dependent upon the nature of the Schiff base ligands and proceeded via the first order kinetics.
