Molecular and NLO Properties of Red Fluorescent Coumarins - DFT Computations Using Long-Range Separated and Conventional Functionals

Comparative study of nonlinear optical properties of red fluorescent coumarins was carried out with density functional theory based ab initio method using the popular global hybrid (GH) and range separated hybrid (RSH) functionals and correlated with the spectroscopic values. The GHs - M06 L, PBE1PBE, M06, BHHLYP, M062X and M06HF and RSHs - HISSbPBE, wB97, wB97X, HSEH1PBE, CAM-B3LYP and wB97XD in combination with the double zeta basis function 6-311 + G(d,p) were used. The computed polarizability (α₀), hyperpolarizability of the first order (β₀) and second order (γ) computed by the RSHs are closer to the spectroscopic values compared to GHs. Polarizabilities computed with the functionals BHHLYP and M06-2X are closer with the spectroscopic values. Incorporation of additional cyano group enhances the NLO response. An increase in electrophilic nature contributed from the reduced orbital band gap culminating an increase in α₀, β₀, and γ in all the cases. The NLO response was found to be highly solvent dependent that is the polarity of the micro environment created by the solvents. To understand the agreement and accuracy among the NLO parameters obtained from the selected DFT functionals and the spectroscopic values, the mean absolute error (MAE) and vibrational contribution parameters are presented. Two photon absorption (TPA) cross section depends upon the molecular structure where π-framework is an important factor rather than number of acceptors.

Comparative study of DFT/B3LYP, B3PW91, and HSEH1PBE methods applied to molecular structures and spectroscopic and electronic properties of flufenpyr and amipizone

The optimized molecular structures, conformational analyses, vibrational (IR) frequencies and their assignments, maximum electronic absorption wavelengths (gas phase and in ethanol solvent), 1H and 13C NMR chemical shift values (gas phase and in CDCl3 solvent), HOMO−LUMO analysis, molecular electrostatic potential surfaces, and nonlinear optical properties of flufenpyr (C14H9ClF4N2O4) and amipizone (C14H16ClN3O) compounds that have many biological activities have been calculated using the DFT/B3LYP, B3PW91, and HSEH1PBE methods with the 6-311G(d,p) basis set in the ground state. A comparison among the results calculated at the mentioned levels indicates that the HSEH1PBE calculations give usually greater values compared with the others in terms of vibrational frequencies, the maximum electronic absorption wavelengths, and HOMO−LUMO energy gaps of the title compounds.

Spectroscopic and quantum chemical studies on bromopyrazone

In this study, the FT-IR, micro-Raman and UV-vis. spectra of bromopyrazone molecule, C10H8BrN3O, (with synonym,1-phenyl-4-amino-5-bromopyridazon-(6) or 5-amino-4-bromo-2-phenyl-3(2H)-pyridazinone) were recorded experimentally. The molecular structure, vibrational wavenumbers, electronic transition absorption wavelengths in ethanol solvent, HOMOs and LUMOs analyses, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), natural bond orbitals (NBO), nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and atomic charges of bromopyrazone molecule have been calculated by using DFT/B3LYP method with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set in ground state. The obtained results show that the calculated vibrational frequencies and UV-vis. values are in a good agreement with experimental data.
