Abstract
To aid the possible prevention of multidrug resistance in tumors and cause lower toxicity, a set of sixteen novel dihydropyridine carboxylic acids derivatives 3a-p were produced; thus, the activation of various ynones with triflic anhydride was performed, involving a nucleophilic addition of several bis(trimethylsilyl) ketene acetals, achieving good yields requiring easy workup. The target molecules were unequivocally characterized by common spectroscopic methods. In addition, two of the tested compounds (3a, and 3b) were selected to perform in silico studies due to the highest cytotoxic activity towards the HCT-15 cell line (7.94 ± 1.6 μM and 9.24 ± 0.9 μM, respectively). Employing theoretical calculations with density functional theory (DFT) using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) showed that the molecular parameters correlate adequately with the experimental results. In contrast, predictions employing Osiris Property Explorer showed that compounds 3a and 3b present physicochemical characteristics that would likely make it an orally active drug. Moreover, the performance of Docking studies with proteins related to the apoptosis pathway allowed a proposal of which compounds could interact with PARP-1 protein. Pondering the obtained results (synthesis, in silico, and cytotoxic activity) of the target compounds, they can be judged as suitable antineoplastic agent candidates.

Abstract
The binuclear iron(III) complex (1), namely, {[Fe(5,5'-dmbpy)2(OH2)]2(µ-O)}(NO3)4 with a distorted octahedral coordination, formed by four nitrogen and two oxygen atoms, was previously reported by our team. In this study the DNA-binding and cytotoxicity evaluation for target complex were studied. The results indicated strong cytotoxicity activity against A549 cells comparable to cisplatin values. The binding interaction between complex 1 and FS-DNA was investigated by UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and gel electrophoresis at physiological pH (7.2). The DNA binding investigation has shown groove binding interactions with complex 1, therefore the hydrogen binding plays an important role in the interaction of DNA with complex 1. The calculated thermodynamic parameters (ΔH°, ΔS° and ΔG°) show that hydrogen bonding and Vander-Waals forces have an important function in Fe(III) complex-DNA interaction. Moreover, DNA cleavage was studied using agarose gel electrophoresis. Viscosity measurements illustrated that relative viscosity of DNA was unchanged with the adding concentrations of Fe(III) complex. Molecular docking simulation results confirmed the spectroscopic and viscosity titration outcomes.

Abstract
A series of novel mono- and di-substituted N-n-butyl-1,8-naphthalimide derivatives were synthesized simultaneously via a three-step reaction. The single crystal structure of N-n-butyl-4-[N',N'-bis(2',4'-dichlorobenzoyl)ethylamino]-1,8-naphthalimide (3f) was determined. The UV-vis and fluorescence properties of compound 3f were investigated. The 3f showed highly selective and sensitive fluorescence changes response towards Pb2+. A titration of monomer with Pb2+ ion was performed. When Pb2+ ion concentration increased from 0 to 10 eq., the fluorescent intensity of 3f decreased from 199.97 to 48.21. The pH effect on 3f showed that it is stable in a wide range of pH. The results indicated that 3f might be a probe molecule for Pb2+.

Abstract
Interactions of COOCH3 functional group of methyl benzoate (MB) and its derivatives can substantially be affected by substituents and heteroatoms. The substituent and heteroatom effects on the intermolecular interactions in the complexes of MB and its derivatives with the water molecule have been investigated by the quantum mechanical calculations in the present study. Electron donating (ED)/electron withdrawing (EW) substituents increase/decrease the binding energy (ΔEbin) between mentioned functional group and hydrogen bond donor, and the N heteroatom in the six membered ring weakens the effect. The effects of the N heteroatoms depend on their positions in the ring, and the effects of substituents depend on the number and the positions of heteroatoms. Some relations were obtained between the dipole moment of carbonyl group, results obtained from the natural bond orbital (NBO) and the atoms in molecules (AIM) analysis, binding energy and Hammett constants of substituents. The results can be used to predict the factors affect the intermolecular interactions, and to improve the ligand-protein bindings in biological systems.

Abstract
The purpose of our work is to characterize and present a theoretical comparative study of a variety of compounds based on DNA base pairs linked with some transition metal ions in gas phase: C–M–G (Cytosine–metal–Guanine) where [Formula: see text](I), Zn(II), Cd(II) and A–M–T (Adenine–metal–Thyminate) where [Formula: see text](II), Ru(I), Ni(I), Y(II), Zn(I), Cd(I), Cu(II). Geometry optimization and frequency calculations were carried out at DFT/ZORA/BLYP-D/TZ2P level. M–N and M–O bonds were investigated with the quantum chemical topology (QCT): Quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and electron localization functions (ELF). The hydrogen bonds: N10–H[Formula: see text]O7 for A–M–T complexes and N7–H[Formula: see text]O10 for C–M–T ones were visualized and discussed, QTAIM and ELF prove the existence of O7–H[Formula: see text]N10 hydrogen bond for some A–M–T systems, since the bond critical point (BCP) of N7–H having [Formula: see text], so it has a covalent character confirming the existence of a tautomer process of these complexes. Bonding energy [Formula: see text], Pauli repulsion [Formula: see text], electrostatic [Formula: see text], and orbital [Formula: see text] interactions were represented and compared together. Hirschfeld’s charges showed the existence of charge transfer process in the bridge moieties. It seems that, in contrast to natural base pairs that are stabilized by hydrogen bonding, Hoogsteen-type base pairs are held together by coordinative bond with metal ions.
