Abstract
Water pollution from organic dyes poses a serious danger to the environment. In the present work, we report a novel adsorbent (ADFS) based on azo-dye-functionalized superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) for the removal of the anionic dye bromophenol blue (BPB) from contaminated water. The fabricated SPIONs, azo dye, and ADFS adsorbent were characterized with FTIR and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, 1HNMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, SEM imaging, dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential measurements, vibrating sample magnetometry, thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis. DLS measurements showed a particle size of 46.1 and 176.5 nm for the SPIONs and the ADFS, respectively. The adsorbent exhibited an adsorption capacity of 7.43 mg g-1 and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics model (r2 = 0.9981). The ADFS could efficiently remove BPB from water after stirring for 120 minutes at room temperature and pH 2. The adsorption process was proved to occur via physisorption, as revealed by the Freundlich isotherm (n = 1.82 and KF = 11.5). Thermodynamic studies implied that the adsorption is spontaneous (-8.03 ≤ ΔG ≤ -0.58 kJ mol-1) and enthalpy-driven might take place via van der Waals interactions and/or hydrogen bonding (ΔH = -82.19 kJ mol-1 and ΔS = -0.24 kJ mol-1 K-1).

Abstract
Although diclofenac (DCF) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is considered safe, its chronic use and overdose may show some toxic effects. The protective effect of tyrosol (Tyr) pretreatment against DCF-induced renal damage was investigated in this study. The 32 rats used in the study were randomly divided into four groups of eight rats each. According to the data obtained, it was determined that creatinine, urea, and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels increased in serum samples of the DCF group. Besides, the levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity decreased and the malondialdehyde (MDA) level increased in the kidney tissue. However, no change was observed in catalase (CAT) activity. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (Tnf-α) levels increased and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf-2) levels decreased. No change was detected in the level of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β). When the DCF+Tyr group and the DCF group were compared, it was assessed that Tyr had a curative effect on all biochemical parameters. Also, kidney damages, such as degeneration and necrosis of tubular epithelium and congestion of veins, were obviated by treatment with tyrosol in histopathological examinations. It was determined that Tyr pretreatment provided a protective effect against nephrotoxicity induced by DCF with its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Abstract
Levocetirizine hydrochloride (LVC) is an antihistaminic drug that is repurposed for the treatment of alopecia. This investigation is targeted for formulating LVC into cationic ceramide/phospholipid composite (CCPCs) for the management of alopecia. CCPCs were fabricated by ethanol-injection approach, through a central composite experiment. CCPCs were evaluated by inspecting their entrapment efficiency (EE%), polydispersity index (PDI), particle size (PS), and zeta potential (ZP). The optimum CCPCs were additionally studied by in-vitro, ex-vivo, in-silico, and in-vivo studies. The fabricated CCPCs had acceptable EE%, PS, PDI, and ZP values. The statistical optimization elected optimum CCPCs composed of 5 mg hyaluronic acid, 10 mg ceramide III, and 5 mg dimethyldidodecylammonium bromide employing phytantriol as a permeation enhancer. The optimum CCPCs had EE%, PS, PDI, and ZP of 88.36 ± 0.34%, 479.00 ± 50.34 nm, 0.377 ± 0.0035, and 20.20 ± 1.13 mV, respectively. The optimum CCPC maintained its stability for up to 90 days. It also viewed vesicles of tube shape via transmission electron microscope. The in-silico assessment resulted in better interaction and stability between LVC and vesicle components in water. The ex-vivo and in-vivo assessments showed satisfactory skin retention of LVC from optimum CCPCs. The histopathological assessment verified the safety of optimum CCPCs to be topically applied. Overall, the optimum CCPCs could be utilized as a potential system for the topical management of alopecia, with a prolonged period of activity, coupled with reduced LVC shortcomings.

Abstract
Textile industries produce a massive amount of wastewater that should be cleaned from toxic substances such as fats, colors and any chemicals used during the production steps. Water-treatment methods should be facile, economic, fast and efficient. Here, we report the synthesis, characterization and application of matrix-dispersed superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) for the removal of anionic dyes from wastewater released from textile industrial plants. The matrix-dispersed SPIONs were synthesized via a solvothermal method in which a polyethyleneimine (PEI) shell was deposited onto SPIONs in order to add positive charges to their surfaces. TEM images revealed that the size of PEI-coated and uncoated SPIONs is 30-50 and 15-30 nm, respectively. Moreover, TEM images depicted that the as synthesized PEI-coated SPIONs show matrix-dispersed structures. Furthermore, the particle size obtained with DLS measurements was found to be 87.93 and 158.9 nm for uncoated and PEI-coated SPIONs, respectively. Bromophenol blue (BPB) and bromocresol green (BCG), two triphenylmethanes, were used as model anionic dyes. FTIR spectroscopy revealed the interaction between the PEI surface coating and the anionic dyes. The apparent ζ-potential measurements showed that the surface negative charges decreased from -13.5 to -4.03 mV upon coating with PEI. In order to investigate the anionic dyes removal/entrapment efficiency of SPIONs, a new derivative visible spectrophotometric method was developed for the simultaneous quantification of BPB and BCG before and after treatment where the linear ranges were 6.98-27.9 and 6.70-26.8 μg/mL and the recovery values were in the ranges of 98.10-101.7% and 99.55-104.8% for BCG and BPB, respectively. It was found that the uptake/adsorption capacity of PEI-coated SPIONs is ca.15.5 and 11.3 mg/g for BCG and BPB, respectively. The calculated thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption of BCG (ΔH = 37.08 J/mol and ΔS = 120.89 J/mol K) and BPB (ΔH = 181.26 J/mol and ΔS = 596.46 J/mol K) and the negative ΔG values indicate that the adsorption is thermodynamically favored. The adsorption processes were found to follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with r2 values of 0.9982 and 0.9956 for BCG and BPB, respectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common form of alopecia in men. Cetirizine, a second-generation H1 blocker, is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to decrease prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) production. AIM To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of topical cetirizine in male patients with AGA. METHODS Two groups of 30 patients each (healthy males aged between 22 and 55 years) with different grades of AGA classified according to the Hamilton-Norwood classification were recruited for this study. Group A subjects applied 1 mL of 1% topical cetirizine daily, while group B subjects served as controls and were instructed to apply 1 mL of a placebo solution for 6 months. RESULTS Dermoscopic assessment revealed significantly higher hair regrowth among the cetirizine-treated group (P < .001). The patients' satisfaction was significantly higher among the cetirizine-treated group (P < .001). CONCLUSION The current study highlights a potential role cetirizine might have in treating AGA. It should be noted that studies are lacking in this regard and more randomized and controlled trials are warranted in order to confirm or refute such early findings.

Abstract
CONTEXT Kidney has a vital role in renal clearance, maintenance of blood pressure, elimination of toxic products and formation of prostaglandins. Certain medications are known to cause renal injury on its frequent usage and high dosage. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug which is used in the treatment of pain and arthritis. Madhuca longifolia is a deciduous tree which is known to the have anti-microbial, anti-ulcer, hepatoprotective, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the beneficial effect of aqueous leaf extract of Madhuca longifolia against DFC-induced renal toxicity in female Wistar albino rats. METHODS Thirty female Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups and the drugs were administrated specifically on each group. After the treatment period, the rats were sacrificed to evaluate the significant changes in renal enzyme markers, antioxidant activities in kidney tissue homogenate and plasma, renal histopathology and protein expression levels. The cytokines like TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β were measured through ELISA techniques and the levels of Caspase-3, COX-2 and NF-κB were measured through western blotting techniques. DiscussionMadhuca longifolia was observed to show a better result in normalizing the toxicity caused by diclofenac. CONCLUSION The significant result of the aqueous leaf extract ofMadhuca longifolia was due to its ability in restoring renal function by restoring antioxidants and preventing cellular damages.
