Molecularly imprinted polymer containing fluorescent graphene quantum dots as a new fluorescent nanosensor for detection of methamphetamine

Eco-friendly graphene quantum dots as a novel spectrofluorimetric probe for lamivudine quantification with evaluation of its greenness and blueness profiles

In this study, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) were employed for quantitatively analyzing lamivudine using a fluorescence quenching technique. This approach allows for sensitive determination of the concentration of lamivudine in different matrices without requiring derivatization. The mechanism behind the fluorescence intensity quenching between GQDs and lamivudine molecules was explored using the Stern Volmer equation, revealing dynamic quenching behavior. Additionally, various factors affecting fluorescence quenching efficiency such as pH, GQDs concentration, and incubation time were carefully tuned. Moreover, our developed method successfully met ICH guidelines for validation parameters including linearity, accuracy, precision, and selectivity demonstrating excellent performance. The results showed good accuracy and precision, with a mean recovery value of 101.91% for method accuracy and a relative standard deviation of 0.682 and 1.489 for intraday and interday precision, respectively. Finally, the greenness and blueness of the developed method were also investigated to assess its environmental friendliness and analytical practicality. Greenness evaluation using the AGREE tool demonstrated that the developed method has a low environmental impact with an AGREE score of 0.75, Besides, the blueness evaluating using the BAGI tool indicated that the developed method is practical, reliable, and well-suited for routine analysis of lamivudine in various samples.

A handheld fluorescent lateral flow immunoassay platform for highly sensitive point-of-care detection of methamphetamine and tramadol

The escalating issue of drug abuse poses a significant threat to public health and societal stability worldwide. An on-site drug detection platform is vital for combating drug abuse and trafficking, as it eliminates the need for additional tools, extensive processes, or specialized training. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a fast, sensitive, non-invasive, and reliable multiplex drug testing platform. In this study, we have presented a silica core@dual quantum dot-shell nanocomposite (SI/DQD)-based fluorescent lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) platform for the highly sensitive and simultaneous point-of-care (POC) detection of methamphetamine (MET) and tramadol (TR). A 3D-printed attachment was designed to integrate optical and electrical components, facilitating the miniaturization of the instrument and reducing both cost and complexity. The device's advanced hardware and effective fluorescence extraction algorithm with waveform reconstruction enable swift, automatic noise reduction and data analysis. SI/DQD nanocomposites were utilized as fluorescent nanotags in the LFIA strips due to their outstanding luminous efficiency and robustness. This LFIA platform achieves impressive detection limits (LODs) of 0.11 ng mL-1 for MET and 0.017 ng mL-1 for TR. The method has also successfully detected MET and TR in complex biological samples, demonstrating its practical application capabilities. The proposed fluorescent LFIA platform, based on SI/DQD technology, holds significant promise for the swift and accurate POC detection of these substances. Its affordability, compact size, and excellent analytical performance make it suitable for on-site drug testing, including at borders and roadside checks, and open up new possibilities for the design and implementation of drug testing methods.

Implications of analytical nanoscience in pharmaceutical and biomedical fields: A critical view

This review summarizes recent progress performed in the design and application of analytical tools and methodologies using nanomaterials for pharmaceutical analysis, and specifically new nanomedicines at distinct phases of development and translation from preclinical to clinical stages. Over the last 10-15 years, a growing number of studies have utilized various nanomaterials, including carbon-based, metallic nanoparticles, polymeric nanomaterials, materials based on biological molecules, and composite nanomaterials as tools for improving the analysis of pharmaceutical products. New and more complex nanomaterials are currently being explored to influence different stages of the analytical process. These materials provide unique properties to support the extraction of analytes in complex samples, increase the selectivity and efficiency of chromatographic separations, and improve the analytical properties of many sensor applications. Indeed, nanomaterials, including electrochemical detection approaches and biosensing, are expanding at a remarkable rate. Furthermore, the analytical performance of numerous approaches to determine drugs in different matrices can be significantly improved in terms of precision, detection limits, selectivity, and time of analysis. However, the quality control and metrological characterization of the currently synthesized nanomaterials still depend on the development of new and improved analytical methodologies, and the application of specific and improved instrumentation. Therefore, there is still much to explore about the properties of nanomaterials which need to be determined even more precisely and accurately.

Determination of Methamphetamine by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography in Odor-Adsorbent Material Used for Training Drug-Detection Animals

The objective of the present report was to develop and validate a simple, sensitive, and selective analytical method for the determination of methamphetamine in an odor-adsorbent material (gauze) which was used to improve and standardize the training method used for drug-detection animals. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was performed using a Spherisorb ODS2 C18 column (200 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm), with a mobile phase consisting of a 0.25% methanol/triethylamine aqueous solution (V:V = 20:80), the pH of which was adjusted to 3.1 using glacial acetic acid, at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The column temperature was 25 °C, and the detection of the analytes was performed at a wavelength of 260 nm. Methamphetamine showed good linearity (R2 = 0.9999) in the range of 4.2~83.2 mg/mL. The stability of the test material was good over 24 h. The precision of the method was good, with an average spiked recovery of 86.2% and an RSD of 2.9%. The methamphetamine content in the gauze sample was determined to be 7.8 ± 2.2 μg/sample. A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was optimized and validated for the determination of methamphetamine in adsorbent materials (gauze). Validation data in terms of specificity, linearity, the limit of detection and the limit of quantification, reproducibility, precision, stability, and recovery indicated that the method is suitable for the routine analysis of methamphetamine in adsorbent materials (gauze) and provided a basis for training drug-detection animals.

Emerging trends in sensors based on molecular imprinting technology: Harnessing smartphones for portable detection and recognition

Molecular imprinting technology (MIT) has become a promising recognition technology in various fields due to its specificity, high efficiency, stability and eco-friendliness in the recognition of target. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), known as 'artificial receptors', are shown similar properties to natural receptors as a biomimetic material. The selectivity of recognition for targets can be greatly improved when MIPs are introduced into sensors, as known that MIPs, are suitable for the pretreatment and analysis of trace substances in complex matrix samples. At present, various sensors has been developed by the combination with MIPs for detecting and identifying trace compounds, biological macromolecules or other substances, such as optical, electrochemical and piezoelectric sensors. Smart phones, with their built-in sensors and powerful digital imaging capabilities, provide a unique platform for the needs of portability and instant detection. MIP sensors based on smart phones are expected to become a new research direction in the future. This review discusses the latest applications of MIP sensors in the field of detection and recognition in recent years, summarizes the frontier progress of MIP sensor research based on smart phones in the past two years, and points out the challenges, limitations and future development prospects.

Recent Applications of Quantum Dots in Pharmaceutical Analysis

Nanotechnology has emerged as one of the most potential areas for pharmaceutical analysis. The need for nanomaterials in pharmaceutical analysis is comprehended in terms of economic challenges, health and safety concerns. Quantum dots (QDs)or colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are new groups of fluorescent nanoparticles that bind nanotechnology to drug analysis. Because of their special physicochemical characteristics and small size, QDs are thought to be promising candidates for the electrical and luminescent probes development. They were originally developed as luminescent biological labels, but are now discovering new analytical chemistry applications, where their photo-luminescent properties are used in pharmaceutical, clinical analysis, food quality control and environmental monitoring. In this review, we discuss QDs regarding properties and advantages, advances in methods of synthesis and their recent applications in drug analysis in the recent last years.

Surface-enhanced Raman imaging through sprayed probes for the application in chemical visualization of methamphetamine within fingerprints

For fingerprint-involved forensic investigations, cyanoacrylates and inorganic nanophosphors are mostly used for fingerprint visualization. However, methods to simultaneously report fingerprint images and the corresponding specific chemical information have yet to be realized. In this work, chemical visualization of the analytes in fingerprints is achieved through surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) measurements with the aid of spray-dispersed gold nanorods (AuNRs). The optimal coverage of AuNRs was studied by theoretical simulations and experimental operations. A rapid sampling of fingerprints with the chemical of interest was developed by tuning the spray parameters. In particular, the SERS imaging of methamphetamine in fingerprint latent was attempted by addressing the SERS spectral features of methamphetamine. This chemical visualization method reflects both the graphical and chemical characteristics of fingerprints in a single batch measurement, in which methamphetamine can be detected and mapped at the concentration of 10^-5 M. The data processing approach was also modified by employing relevant logical judgments. The improved SERS images with sharpened patterns of fingerprints were obtained by involving the scored multi-peak judgments.

Antibody-Conjugated Electrospun Nanofibers for Electrochemical Detection of Methamphetamine

Multifunctional electrospun nanofibers (ENs) with improved properties have increased attention nowadays. Their insoluble forms in water with decreased hydrophobicity are desired for the immobilization of biological molecules. Also, the addition of functional groups on the backbone provides the conjugation of biomolecules onto the surface of ENs via covalent bonds to increase their stability. Here, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) was chosen to prepare a platform, which is insoluble in water, and polyethylenimine (PEI) was used to add amine groups on the surface of ENs to bind biological molecules via covalent conjugation. So, PVDF-PEI nanofibers were prepared on a glassy carbon electrode to immobilize an antimethamphetamine antibody (Anti-METH) as a model biomolecule. The obtained PVDF-PEI/Anti-METH was used for the bioelectrochemical detection of methamphetamine (METH), a common illicit drug. Bioelectrochemical detection of METH on PVDF-PEI/Anti-METH-coated electrodes was carried out by voltammetry in the range of 2.0-50 ng/mL METH. Moreover, the effect of dansyl chloride (DNC) derivatization of METH on the sensitivity of PVDF-PEI/Anti-METH was tested. Finally, METH analysis was carried out in synthetic body fluids. The obtained results showed that PVDF-PEI ENs can be adopted as an immobilization matrix for the biorecognition elements of biobased detection systems, and the derivative of METH (METH-DNC) increased the sensitivity of PVDF-PEI/Anti-METH.

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer-Based Luminescent Chemosensors

Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based luminescent chemosensors combine the advantages of the highly specific molecular recognition of the imprinting sites and the high sensitivity with the luminescence detection. These advantages have drawn great attention during the past two decades. Luminescent molecularly imprinted polymers (luminescent MIPs) towards different targeted analytes are constructed with different strategies, such as the incorporation of luminescent functional monomers, physical entrapment, covalent attachment of luminescent signaling elements on the MIPs, and surface-imprinting polymerization on the luminescent nanomaterials. In this review, we will discuss the design strategies and sensing approaches of luminescent MIP-based chemosensors, as well as their selected applications in biosensing, bioimaging, food safety, and clinical diagnosis. The limitations and prospects for the future development of MIP-based luminescent chemosensors will also be discussed.

Determination of total cathinones with a single molecularly imprinted fluorescent sensor assisted by electromembrane microextraction

An electromembrane microextraction (EME)-assisted fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensing method is presented for detecting the total cathinone drugs in urine samples. In this detection system, the clean-up ability of EME eliminated the matrix effects on both target binding with MIPs and the luminescence of the fluorophore in the sensor. Moreover, by optimizing the extraction conditions of EME, different cathinone drugs with a same concentration show a same response on the single aggregation induced emission (AIE) based MIP (AIE-MIP) sensor (λ_ex = 360 nm, λ_em = 467 nm). The recoveries were 57.9% for cathinone (CAT) and 78.2% for methcathinone (MCAT). The EME-assisted "light-up" AIE-MIP sensing method displayed excellent performance with a linear range of 2.0-12.0 μmol L^-1 and a linear determination coefficient (R²) of 0.99. The limit of detection (LOD) value for EME-assisted "light-up" AIE-MIP sensing method was 0.3 μmol L^-1. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values for the detection were found to be within the range 2.0-12.0%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that determination of total illicit drugs with a single fluorescent MIP sensor was achieved and also the first utilization of sample preparation to tune the sensing signal of the sensor to be reported. We believe that this versatile combination of fluorescent MIP sensor and sample preparation can be used as a common protocol for sensing the total amount of a group of analytes in various fields.

Graphene quantum dots: synthesis, properties, and applications to the development of optical and electrochemical sensors for chemical sensing

GQDs exhibits exceptional electrochemical activity owing to their active edge sites that make them very attractive for biosensing applications. However, their use in the design of new biosensing devices for application to the detection and quantification of toxins, pathogens, and clinical biomarkers has so far not investigated in detail. In this regard, herein we provide a detailed review on various methodologies employed for the synthesis of GQDs, including bottom-up and top-down approaches, with a special focus on their applications in biosensing via fluorescence, photoluminescence, chemiluminescence, electrochemiluminescence, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, and electrochemical techniques. We believe that this review will shed light on the critical issues and widen the applications of GQDs for the design of biosensors with improved analytical response for future applications. Ultrasensitive and highly selective "turn-on" fluorescent sensor for the detection and measurement of melatonin in juice samples

Melatonin (MLT), a hormone related to the regulation of brain functions, is directly related to sleep quality and is considered to be a possible adjuvant therapy for patients needing hospitalization for coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia, and accurate measurement of MLT is crucial. Herein, a new, highly sensitive, and easy operation fluorescent probe was provided based on Zr metal-organic framework encapsulation into the molecularly imprinted polymer (MOF@MIP). By combining unique properties of MIP and fluorescent MOF, selectivity and operation of the applied method were significantly improved. Different characterization methods, such as XRD, FT-IR, and FE-SEM, were used to confirm the synthesis reliability. MOF@MIP was successfully used for the precise identification and ultrasensitive detection for trace amounts of MLT. The detection mechanism for the analytical system is based on the ''turn-on'' fluorescence (FL) signal in 404 nm. The findings proved that it is possible to detect trace amounts of MLT in real samples including grape, cherry, and sour cherry juice. The linear range and the limit of detection (LOD) for trace amounts of MLT were obtained as 1-100 ng/mL and 0.18 ng/mL, respectively.

Specific ultralow level chemo-recognition using Graphene-fluorophore supramolecular assembly: Fine-tuning the fluorophore framework

The non-covalent interactions between graphene and aromatic fluorophores have generated highly sensitive fluorimetric turn-on sensors for various significant analytes. Herein, the supramolecular interaction between reduced graphene oxide and 7-Hydroxy-4-Methyl-8-Amino Coumarin is made use of for tracing Cu²⁺ at sub-zeptomole level with excellent selectivity among a collection of nineteen metal ions. The system enables quantification of the analyte in a commendably wide range, from micromolar to zeptomolar, a feature that almost all-optical sensors lack. Handy solid-state sensor strip fabricated using the above-mentioned supramolecular combination enabled visual recognition of Cu²⁺ions at the molecular level. Based on the chemo recognition ability of the fluorophore, multiple Boolean logic devices operating at the molecular level are proposed. By screening pertinent coumarin derivatives, it is demonstrated that the selectivity and sensitivity of the sensors of this sort are decided by the number of π- interaction centers of the fluorophores and the strength by which they interact with graphene, respectively, which will enable identification and modification of proper fluorophores for ultra-trace detection of contaminants of environmental relevance from aqueous solutions.

Emerging trends in point-of-care sensors for illicit drugs analysis

Consumption of illicit narcotic drugs and fatal or criminal activities under their influence has become an utmost concern worldwide. These drugs influence an individual's feelings, perceptions, and emotions by altering the state of consciousness and thus can result in serious safety breaches at critical workplaces. Point-of-care drug-testing devices have become the need-of-the-hour for many sections such as the law enforcement agencies, the workplaces, etc. for safety and security. This review focuses on the recent progress on various electrochemical and optical nanosensors developed for the analysis of the most common illicit drugs (or their metabolites) such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cocaine (COC), opioids (OPs), amphetamines & methamphetamine, and benzodiazepine (BZDs). The paper also highlights the sensitivity and selectivity of various sensing modalities along with evolving parameters such as real-time monitoring and measurement via a smart user interface. An overall outlook of recent technological advances in point of care (POC) devices and guided insights and directions for future research is presented.

A selectivity-enhanced ratiometric fluorescence imprinted sensor based on synergistic effect of covalent and non-covalent recognition units for ultrasensitive detection of ribavirin

Development of methods with high selectivity and sensitivity for detection of trace ribavirin (RBV) is of great importance for environmental protection and food safety. Herein, we proposed a simple yet valid strategy to construct the highly selective ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform (BA-LMOFs@MIP) for analysis of RBV based on boric acid-functionalized lanthanide metal-organic framework (BA-LMOFs) coupled with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). In this strategy, BA-LMOFs featured with dual-emission and pH-responsive behavior were first synthesized as supporter. Benefiting from boric acid group of BA-LMOFs, RBV was easily immobilized onto its surface, taking advantage of template immobilization-based surface imprinting means to fabricate BA-LMOFs@MIP with dual recognition sites for the first time. The synergistic effect of covalent boronate affinity-based recognition unit and non-covalent imprinting sites enabled BA-LMOFs@MIP to exhibit superior selectivity and binding efficiency to RBV. BA-LMOFs as signal tag endowed BA-LMOFs@MIP with desirable sensitivity, photostability and hydrophilicity. More importantly, BA-LMOFs@MIP-based sensor displayed a wide linear range for RBV from 25 to 1200 ng mL^-1 with a detection limit down to 7.62 ng mL^-1. The sensor was finally applied to RBV determination in real samples, and the obtained results revealed that BA-LMOFs@MIP would be a promising candidate for monitoring of RBV in complex systems.

Beyond Color: The New Carbon Ink

For thousands of years, carbon ink has been used as a black color pigment for writing and painting purposes. However, recent discoveries of nanocarbon materials, including fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, graphene, and their various derivative forms, together with the advances in large-scale synthesis, are enabling a whole new generation of carbon inks that can serve as an intrinsically programmable materials platform for developing advanced functionalities far beyond color. The marriage between these multifunctional nanocarbon inks with modern printing technologies is facilitating and even transforming many applications, including flexible electronics, wearable and implantable sensors, actuators, and autonomous robotics. This review examines recent progress in the reborn field of carbon inks, highlighting their programmability and multifunctionality for applications in flexible electronics and stimuli-responsive devices. Current challenges and opportunities will also be discussed from a materials science perspective towards the advancement of carbon ink for new applications beyond color.

Recent advances in developing optical and electrochemical sensors for analysis of methamphetamine: A review

Recognition of misused stimulant drugs has always been a hot topic from a medical and judicial perspective. Methamphetamine (MAMP) is an addictive and illegal drug that profoundly affects the central nervous system. Like other illicit drugs, the detection of MAMP in biological and street samples is vital for several organizations such as forensic medicine, anti-drug headquarters and diagnostic clinics. By emerging nanotechnology and exploiting nanomaterials in sensing applications, a great deal of attention has been given to the design of analytical sensors in MAMP tracing. For the first time, this study has briefly reviewed all the optical and electrochemical sensors in MAMP detection from earlier so far. How various receptors with engineering nanomaterials allow developing novel approaches to measure MAMP have been studied. Fundamental concepts related to optical and electrochemical recognition assays in which nanomaterials have been used and relevant MAMP sensing applications have been comprehensively covered. Challenges, opportunities and future outlooks of this field have also been discussed at the end.

Molecularly imprinted polymers as a selective sorbent for forensic applications in biological samples-a review

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) consist of a molecular recognition technology with applicability in different areas, including forensic chemistry. Among the forensic applications, the use of MIP in biological fluid analysis has gained prominence. Biological fluids are complex samples that generally require a pre-treatment to eliminate interfering agents to improve the results of the analyses. In this review, we address the development of this molecular imprinting technology over the years, highlighting the forensic applications of molecularly imprinted polymers in biological sample preparation for analysis of stimulant drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines, and nicotine.

Highly sensitive and selective detection of naproxen via molecularly imprinted carbon dots as a fluorescent sensor

The overuse and inappropriate discharge of naproxen, a common anti-inflammatory medication and an emerging contaminant in water, is detrimental to human health and bodies of water. Here, we design a fluorescent sensor based on molecularly imprinted carbon dots (CDs) for highly selective detection of trace amounts of naproxen. The CDs were encapsulated into the pores of silica through a sol–gel based method and provide fluorescent signal. After removal of the template molecules, a molecularly imprinted polymer layer was formed and the fluorescence of the CDs sensor was selectively quenched by naproxen. A detection limit of as low as 0.03 μM and a linear range of 0.05–4 μM for detecting naproxen in aqueous solution were obtained. High recoveries of naproxen levels in waste water and urine samples for practical application were also achieved. In addition, the accurate detection performance of sensor was maintained during the UV degradation of naproxen.

A highly selective fluorescent sensor for naproxen utilizes carbon dots as the fluorophore and molecularly imprinted polymer to provide the recognition sites. The fluorescence of carbon dots can be selectively quenched by naproxen.

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer-Quantum Dot Materials in Optical Sensors: An Overview of Their Synthesis and Applications

In the last decades analytical methods have focused on the determination of target analytes at very low concentration levels. This has been accomplished through the use of traditional analytical methods that usually require high reagent consumption, expensive equipment and long pretreatment steps. Thus, there is a demand for simple, rapid, highly selective and user-friendly detection procedures. Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconductor fluorescent nanomaterials with unique optoelectronic properties that have shown great potential for the development of fluorescence probes. Besides, the combination of QDs with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIPs), synthetic materials with selective recognition, have been proposed as useful materials in the development of optical sensors. The resulting MIP-QDs optical sensors integrate the advantages of both techniques: the high sensitivity of QDs-based fluorescence sensors and the high selectivity of MIPs. This review gives a brief overview of the strategies for the synthesis of MIPs-QDs based optical sensors, highlighting the modifications in the synthesis procedure that improve the sensor performance. Finally, a revision of recent applications in sensing and bioimaging is presented.

Detection of tartrazine in fake saffron containing products by a sensitive optical nanosensor

A fluorescent assay for the selective analysis of tartrazine was developed. Tartrazine is a health-threatening food additive commonly used as fake saffron. An optical nanosensor was fabricated based on molecular imprinting technique in which carbon dots (CDs) as fluorophores and tartrazine as a template molecule were embedded in molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) matrix. The synthesized CDs embedded in MIP (CDs-MIP) was characterized by various methods. The fluorescence intensity of (CDs-MIP) was selectively quenched in the presence of tartrazine in comparison with other similar food color additives. The correlation between the quenching of CD-MIP and the concentration of tartrazine was used as an optical sensing for rapid detection of tartrazine in the range of 3.3-20.0 nM (1.8-10.7 μg L^-1) with detection limit of 1.3 nM (0.70 μg L^-1). Eventually, the designed nanosensor was successfully applied for tartrazine detection in foodstuffs such as fake saffron, saffron tea and saffron ice cream samples.

Boric acid modified S and N co-doped graphene quantum dots as simple and inexpensive turn-on fluorescent nanosensor for quantification of glucose

A new fluorescent nanosensor based on S and N co-doped graphene quantum dots (S,N-GQDs) modified by boric acid was designed for glucose detection. First, the S,N-GQDs was prepared via one pot hydrothermal process utilizing citric acid and thiourea as precursors. Then, S,N-GQDs was modified by boric acid to fabricate (B)/S,N-GQDs. The excitation dependent photoluminescence spectra of (B)/S,N-GQDs confirmed the heteroatom (S,N) dopant effect on GQDs emission. FT-IR and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopies confirmed the modification of S,N-GQDs with boric acid. The optical and electrochemical band gaps of the obtained (B)/S,N-GQDs were found to be 2.7 and 2.5 eV, respectively. The boric acid functionalized S,N-GQDs exhibited fluorescent enhancement at 455 nm upon addition of glucose. Such fluorescence response was used for glucose quantification with a detection limit of 5.5 μM which is comparable with previous boronic acid based fluorescent sensing systems. However, compared with earlier reported expensive boronic acid based glucose sensors, this modified system is simpler, more economical, and efficient. A mechanism was proposed for fluorescence enhancement based on the reaction of cis-diol units of glucose with the boric acid groups of (B)/S,N-GQDs which creates rigid (B)/S,N-GQDs-glucose structures, restricting the non-radiative intramolecular motions and results in the fluorescent enhancement.

Design of a pseudo stir bar sorptive extraction using graphenized pencil lead as the base of the molecularly imprinted polymer for extraction of nabumetone

Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized through the coprecipitation method on the graphene oxide anchored pencil lead as a substrate for the first time and applied as an efficient sorbent for pseudo stir bar sorptive extraction of nabumetone. The extracted analyte was determined by a novel spectrophotometric method based on the aggregation of silicate sol-gel stabilized silver nanoparticles in the presence of the analyte. The synthesized polymer was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Optimization of important parameters affecting the extraction efficiency was done using central composite design whereas the spectrophotometric method was optimized via one at a time variable. Under the optimal conditions, the calibration curve exhibited linearity in the concentration range of 1.5-20.0 μg L^-1. A limit of detection of 0.20 μg L^-1, an enhancement factor of 393 and relative standard deviations (at 10 μg L^-1, n = 6) of 4.6% and 8.1% for intra- and inter-day analysis were obtained. The developed procedure was successfully utilized for the quantification of traces of nabumetone in tap water and biological samples with the complex matrix including human urine and serum.

Molecularly imprinted polymer integrated plasmonic nanosensor for cocaine detection

A molecularly imprinted polymeric nanofilm was prepared for cocaine detection and applied to plasmonic nanosensor for real-time kinetic, selectivity and reusability analyses. The sensing polymeric surface was fabricated by synthesizing a selective and specific nanofilm on the gold plasmonic nanosensor surface. After characterization experiments with atomic force microscopy, ellipsometer, and contact angle measurements, the kinetic studies of cocaine detection in aqueous solutions in a wide concentration range between 0.2-100 μg/mL were applied to plasmonic nanosensor system at 24 °C with a low limit of detection (0.1 μg/L) and quantification values (0.3 μg/L) and the results showed that this molecularly imprinted polymeric nanofilm integrated plasmonic nanosensor is providing a model for the fastest, most accurate and most precise identification of the cocaine molecule which constitutes a large part of the workload of forensic laboratories.
