Abstract
Arthrospira platensis, commonly known as Spirulina, is a photosynthetic filamentous cyanobacterium (blue-green microalga) that has been utilized as a food source since ancient times. More recently, it has gained significant popularity as a dietary supplement due to its rich content of micro- and macro-nutrients. Of particular interest is a water soluble phycobiliprotein derived from Spirulina known as phycocyanin C (C-PC), which stands out as the most abundant protein in this cyanobacterium. C-PC is a fluorescent protein, with its chromophore represented by the tetrapyrrole molecule phycocyanobilin B (PCB-B). While C-PC is commonly employed in food for its coloring properties, it also serves as the molecular basis for numerous nutraceutical features associated with Spirulina. Indeed, the comprehensive C-PC, and to some extent, the isolated PCB-B, has been linked to various health-promoting effects. These benefits encompass conditions triggered by oxidative stress, inflammation, and other pathological conditions. The present review focuses on the bio-pharmacological properties of these molecules, positioning them as promising agents for potential new applications in the expanding nutraceutical market.

Abstract
DNA is widely used as building block material for the construction of polyhedral nanostructures. DNA polyhedrons (DNA prism, cube, and square pyramid) are small 3D wireframed nanostructures with tunable shapes and sizes. Despite substantial progress in synthesis, the study regarding cellular responses to DNA polyhedrons is limited. Herein, the molecular interaction between DNA polyhedrons and the antioxidant enzyme, catalase has been explored. The enzymatic activity of bovine liver catalase (BLC) remains unaltered in the presence of DNA polyhedrons after 1 h of incubation. However, the activity of BLC was protected after 24 h of incubation in the presence of DNA polyhedrons as compared to the natural unfolding. The kinetics study confirmed the protective role of DNA polyhedrons on BLC with lower KM and higher catalytic efficiency. Furthermore, no profound conformational changes of BLC occur in the presence of DNA polyhedrons as observed in spectroscopic studies. From fluorescence quenching data we confirmed the binding between DNA polyhedrons and BLC. The thermodynamic parameters indicate that non-covalent bonds played a major role during the interaction of BLC with DNA polyhedrons. Moreover, the hepatic catalase activity remains unaltered in the presence of DNA polyhedrons. The cytotoxicity assay revealed that DNA polyhedrons were biocompatible in the cellular environment. The protective role of DNA polyhedrons on enzyme activity and the unaltered conformational change of protein ensures the biocompatibility of DNA polyhedrons in the cellular environment.

Abstract
Packed with hemoglobin, an essential protein for oxygen transport, human erythrocytes are a suitable model system for testing the pleiotropic effects of lipophilic drugs. Our study investigated the interaction between antipsychotic drugs clozapine, ziprasidone, sertindole, and human hemoglobin under simulated physiological conditions. Analysis of protein fluorescence quenching at different temperatures and data obtained from the van't Hoff diagram and molecular docking indicate that the interactions are static and that the tetrameric human hemoglobin has one binding site for all drugs in the central cavity near αβ interfaces and is dominantly mediated through hydrophobic forces. The association constants were lower-moderate strength (~104 M-1), the highest observed for clozapine (2.2 × 104 M-1 at 25 °C). The clozapine binding showed "friendly" effects: increased α-helical content, a higher melting point, and protein protection from free radical-mediated oxidation. On the other hand, bound ziprasidone and sertindole had a slightly pro-oxidative effect, increasing ferrihemoglobin content, a possible "foe". Since the interaction of proteins with drugs plays a vital role in their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, the physiological significance of the obtained findings is briefly discussed.

Abstract
Common to all biological systems and living organisms are molecular interactions, which may lead to specific physiological events. Most often, a cascade of events occurs, establishing an equilibrium between possibly competing and/or synergistic processes. Biochemical pathways that sustain life depend on multiple intrinsic and extrinsic factors contributing to aging and/or diseases. This article deals with food antioxidants and human proteins from the circulation, their interaction, their effect on the structure, properties, and function of antioxidant-bound proteins, and the possible impact of complex formation on antioxidants. An overview of studies examining interactions between individual antioxidant compounds and major blood proteins is presented with findings. Investigating antioxidant/protein interactions at the level of the human organism and determining antioxidant distribution between proteins and involvement in the particular physiological role is a very complex and challenging task. However, by knowing the role of a particular protein in certain pathology or aging, and the effect exerted by a particular antioxidant bound to it, it is possible to recommend specific food intake or resistance to it to improve the condition or slow down the process.
