Abstract
In this article, we propose a simple photochemical method to synthesize pure La2Ti2O7 films and La2Ti2O7 films doped with silver at 1.0, 3.0, and 5.0 mol%. After annealing the photo-deposited films at 900 °C, XRD, SEM, and XPS analyses showed the formation of a monoclinic La2Ti2O7 phase and the presence of Ag and AgO in doped samples. Photocatalytic tests for Congo red degradation demonstrated that pure La2Ti2O7 achieved 25.4% degradation, while doped samples reached a maximum of 92.7% degradation. Moreover, increasing silver doping on La2Ti2O7 films significantly reduced the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, indicating potential antibacterial properties. The enhanced photoactivity was attributed to the formation of a type I heterojunction between La2Ti2O7 and AgO, and a degradation mechanism was proposed based on Congo red degradation.

A review on superior advanced oxidation and photocatalytic degradation techniques for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) elimination from wastewater. ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH 2023; 221:115326. Abstract
Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) has been identified as the most toxic specie of the family of perfluorinated carboxylic acids (PFCAs). It has been widely distributed and frequently detected in environmental wastewater. The compound's unique features such as inherent stability, rigidity, and resistance to harsh chemical and thermal conditions, due to its multiple and strong C-F bonds have resulted in its resistance to conventional wastewater remediations. Photolysis and bioremediation methods have been proven to be inefficient in their elimination, hence this article presents intensive literature studies and summarized findings reported on the application of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and photocatalytic degradation techniques as the best alternatives for the PFOA elimination from wastewater. Techniques of persulfate, photo-Fenton, electrochemical, photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic degradation have been explored and their mechanisms for the degradation and defluorination of the PFOA have been demonstrated. The major advantage of AOPs techniques has been centralized on the generation of active radicals such as sulfate (SO4•-) hydroxyl (•OH). While for the photocatalytic process, photogenerated species (electron (e) and holes (h + vb)) initiated the process. These active radicals and photogenerated species possessed potentiality to attack the PFOA molecule and caused the cleavage of the C-C and C-F bonds, resulting in its efficient degradation. Shorter-chain PFCAs have been identified as the major intermediates detected and the final stage entails its complete mineralization to carbon dioxide (CO2) and fluoride ion (F-). The prospects and challenges associated with the outlined techniques have been highlighted for better understanding of the subject matter for the PFOA elimination from real wastewaters.

Abstract
The preparation of visible light-responsive efficient photocatalysts for removing organic contaminants from water and killing cancer cells has gotten a lot of attention due to the growing global concern. In this study, we have successfully fabricated an efficient AgBr/β-MnO2 nanocomposite via a facile deposition and precipitation method at room temperature. Techniques such as XRD, SEM-EDS, TEM, DRS, PL, EIS, ESR, and FTIR were used to determine the crystalline, structural, morphological, optical, and other properties. The SEM and TEM analyses reveal that AgBr NPs are decorated on the surface of β-MnO2, which possesses rods with a sphere-like structure for AgBr/β-MnO2. The EDX analysis confirms the existence of Mn, O, Ag, and Br elements in the nanocomposites without an extra peak, indicating that the synthesized samples are highly pure. The high photocatalytic performance of AgBr/β-MnO2 could be attributed to the formation of Ag NPs and the construction of the Z-scheme heterojunction between AgBr and β-MnO2. This may enhance fast light absorption and efficient photogenerated (e-/h+) pairs, as indicated by EIS and photoluminescence measurements, which in turn achieved high activity for the decomposition of MB (97%, in 12 min), RhB (98.9%, in 9 min), and paracetamol (80%, in 180 min), respectively. The kinetic model study proposed that the first-order model showed a better fit than the zero- and second-order for the photocatalytic decolorization of RhB dye. XRD analysis of 0.2 AgBr/β-MnO2 before and after recycling confirms the high stability of the catalyst. HPLC results showed that no detectable by-products are produced through the decomposition of paracetamol. Interestingly, 0.2 AgBr/β-MnO2 nanocomposites showed visible light-induced anticancer activity against A549 cancer cell lines. The mechanistic degradation pathway has been proposed using the involvement of active species like superoxide radicals (-•O2) and photoinduced holes (h+). The proposed work focuses on synthesizing effective photocatalysts in a less hazardous environment with superior biological activity.

Abstract
Novel Bi2W2O9 and Bi2Mo2O9 with irregular polyhedron structure were successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Compared to ordinary Bi2WO6 and Bi2MoO6, the modified structure of Bi2W2O9 and Bi2Mo2O9 were observed, which led to an enhancement of photocatalytic performance. To investigate the possible mechanism of enhancing photocatalytic efficiency, the crystal structure, morphology, elemental composition, and optical properties of Bi2WO6, Bi2MO6, Bi2W2O9, and Bi2Mo2O9 were examined. UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy revealed the visible-light absorption ability of Bi2WO6, Bi2MO6, Bi2W2O9, and Bi2Mo2O9. Photoluminescence (PL) and photocurrent indicated that Bi2W2O9 and Bi2Mo2O9 pose an enhanced ability of photogenerated electron-hole pairs separation. Radical trapping experiments revealed that photogenerated holes and superoxide radicals were the main active species. It can be conjectured that the promoted photocatalytic performance related to the modified structure, and a possible mechanism was discussed in detail.

Abstract
To enable efficient degradation of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), we prepared and investigated a nanosheet photocatalyst (Pt/La2Ti2O7). Doping platinum nanoparticles on La2Ti2O7 varied the band structure and improved the photocatalytic activity due to the enhanced charge separation. Methanol as the electron donor and sacrificial reagent significantly promoted the photocatalytically reductive degradation of PFOA that reduced by 40% within 180 min under UV254 irradiation (1 mW∙cm2). The density functional theory calculations were used to analyze the effects of Pt doping and band structures on interfacial electron transfer and degradation pathways. As opposed to photocatalytic oxidation, this UV/Pt/La2Ti2O7/CH3OH photocatalysis could abstract electrons from methanol and convert to free reactive radicals and photo-generated electrons to reductively defluorinate PFOA and potentially other polyhalogenated or perhalogenated organic compounds.
