Abstract
The abuse and uncontrolled discharge of antibiotics present a severe threat to environment and human health, necessitating the development of efficient and sustainable treatment technology. In this work, we employ a facile one-step electrodeposition method to prepare polyaniline/graphite oxide (PANI/GO) and samarium (Sm) co-modified Ti/PbO2 (Ti/PbO2-PANI/GO-Sm) electrode for the degradation of amoxicillin (AMX). Compared with traditional Ti/PbO2 electrode, Ti/PbO2-PANI/GO-Sm electrode exhibits more excellent oxygen evolution potential (2.63 V) and longer service life (56 h). In degradation experiment, under optimized conditions (50 mg L-1 AMX, 20 mA cm-2, pH 3, 0.050 M Na2SO4, 25 °C), Ti/PbO2-PANI/GO-Sm electrode achieves remarkable removal efficiencies of 88.76% for AMX and 79.92% for chemical oxygen demand at 90 min. In addition, trapping experiment confirms that ·OH plays a major role in the degradation process. Based on theoretical calculation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer results, the heterocyclic portion of AMX molecule is more susceptible to ·OH attacks. Thus, this novel electrode offers a sustainable and efficient solution to address environmental challenges posed by antibiotic-contaminated wastewater.

Abstract
The recent widespread use of microplastics (MPs), especially in pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), has caused significant water pollution. This study presents a UV/electrically co-facilitated activated persulfate (PS) system to co-degrade a typical microplastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and an organic sunscreen p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). We investigated the effect of various reaction conditions on the degradation. PVC and PABA degradation was 37% and 99.22%, respectively. Furthermore, we observed alterations in the surface topography and chemical characteristics of PVC throughout degradation. The possible degradation pathways of PVC and PABA were proposed by analyzing the intermediate products and the free radicals generated. This study reveals the co-promoting effect of multiple mechanisms in the activation by ultraviolet light and electricity.

Abstract
In this study, we demonstrated the fabrication of multicontact hierarchical probes for the in vitro detection of serotonin levels. The basic three-dimensional (3D) bendable prototypes with 3 (C1), 6 (C2), or 9 (C3) contact surfaces were printed from polymeric resin via the digital light processing (DLP) technique. We chose ultrasonicated carbon fiber strands to transform these designs into multicontact carbon fiber electrodes (MCCFEs). The exposed carbon fiber (CF) surfaces were modified with aminopropyl alkoxysilane (APTMS), followed by the subsequent loading of palladium nanoclusters (PdNPs) to build active recording sites. CF functionalization with PdNPs was achieved by the wet chemical reduction of Pd(II) to Pd(0). The MCCFE configurations demonstrated an enhancement in the electroactive surface area and an improved voltammetric response toward 5-HT oxidation by increasing the points of the contacts (i.e., from C1 to C3). These MCCFEs are comparable to 3D-protruding electrodes as they can enable multipoint analyte detection. Along with the electrode patterns, morphological irregularities associated with both Pd-doped and undoped CFs supported the creation of proximal diffusion layers for facile mass transfer. Low detection limits of 0.8-10 nM over a wide concentration range, from 0.005 nM to 1 mM, were demonstrated. The MCCFE sensors had a relatively low standard deviation value of ∼2%. This type of sensitive and cost-effective electrochemical sensor may prove useful for collecting electrical impulses and long-term monitoring of 5-HT in vivo in addition to in vitro testing.

Abstract
In this work, a novel La-doped βPbO2 (Ti/SnO2-Sb/La-βPbO2) was prepared using electrodeposition method and applied to the degradation of prednisolone (PRD), 8-Hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ), and other typical organic pollutants. Compared with the conventional electrode Ti/SnO2-Sb/βPbO2, La2O3 doping enhanced oxygen evolution potential (OEP), reactive surface area, stability and repeatability of the electrode. The 10 g L-1 of La2O3 doping exhibited the highest electrochemical oxidation capability of the electrode with [•OH]ss being determined at 5.6 × 10-13 M. The quenching experiments were conducted to confirm the main oxidizing species (here: •OH) in the electrochemical process. The study showed that the pollutants were removed in the electrochemical (EC) process with different degradation rates and indicated that the second-order rate constant of organic pollutants towards •OH (kOP,•OH) has a linear relationship with the degradation rate of organic pollutants (kOP) in the electrochemical process. Another new finding in this work is that a regression line of kOP,•OH and kOP can be used to estimate kOP,•OH of an organic chemical, which cannot be determined using the competition method. kPRD,•OH and k8-HQ,•OH were determined to be 7.4 × 109 M-1 s-1 and (4.6-5.5) × 109 M-1 s-1, respectively. Compared with conventional supporting electrolyte (like SO42-), H2PO4- and HPO42- improved kPRD and k8-HQ by 1.3-1.6-fold, while SO32- and HCO3- inhibited kPRD and k8-HQ significantly, down to 80%. Additionally, the degradation pathway of 8-HQ was proposed based on the detection of intermediates from GC-MS.

Abstract
Global consumption and discharge of antibiotics have led to the rapid development and spread of bacterial antibiotic resistance. Among treatment strategies, electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) are gaining popularity for treating water/wastewater containing antibiotics due to their high efficiency and easiness of operation. In this review, we summarize various forms of EAOPs that contribute to antibiotic degradation, including common electrochemical oxidation (EO), electrolyte enhanced EO, electro-Fenton (EF) processes, EF-like process, and EAOPs coupling with other processes. Then we assess the performance of various EAOPs in antibiotic degradation and discuss the influence of key factors, including electrode, initial concentration and type of antibiotic, operation conditions, electrolyte, and water quality. We also review mechanisms and degradation pathways of various antibiotics degradation by EAOPs, and address the species and toxicity of intermediates produced during antibiotics treatment. Finally, we highlight challenges and critical research needs to facilitate the application of EAOPs in antibiotic treatment.

Abstract
Pharmaceutical compounds have piqued the interest of researchers due to an increase in their demand, which increases the possibility of leakage into the environment. Amoxicillin (AMX) is a penicillin derivative used for the treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria. AMX has a low metabolic rate in the human body, and around 80-90% is unmetabolized. As a result, AMX residuals should be treated immediately to avoid further accumulation in the environment. Advanced oxidation process techniques are an efficient way to degrade AMX. This review attempts to collect, organize, summarize, and analyze the most up to date research linked to the degradation of AMX by different advanced oxidation process systems including photocatalytic, ultrasonic, electro-oxidation, and advanced oxidation process-based on partials. The main topics investigated in this review are degradation mechanism, degradation efficiency, catalyst stability, the formation of AMX by-products and its toxicity, in addition, the influence of different experimental conditions was discussed such as pH, temperature, scavengers, the concentration of amoxicillin, oxidants, catalyst, and doping ratio. The degradation of AMX could be inhibited by very high values of pH, temperature, AMX concentration, oxidants concentration, catalyst concentration, and doping ratio. Several AMX by-products were discovered after oxidation treatment, and several of them had lower or same values of LC50 (96 h) fathead minnow of AMX itself, such as m/z 384, 375, 349, 323, 324, 321, 318, with prediction values of 0.70, 1.10, 1.10 0.42, 0.42, 0.42, and 0.42 mg/L, respectively. We revealed that there is no silver bullet system to oxidize AMX from an aqueous medium. However, it is recommended to apply hybrid systems such as Photo-electro, Photo-Fenton, Electro-Fenton, etc. Hybrid systems are capable to cover the drawbacks of the single system. This review may provide important information, as well as future recommendations, for future researchers interested in treating AMX using various AOP systems, allowing them to improve the applicability of their systems and successfully oxidize AMX from an aqueous medium.

Abstract
Dealing with arsenic pollution has been of great concern owing to inherent toxicity of As(III) to environments and human health. Herein, a novel multilayered SnO2/PPy/β-PbO2 structure on TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNAs/SnO2/PPy/β-PbO2) was synthesized by a multi-step electrodeposition process as an efficient electrocatalyst for As(III) oxidation in aqueous solution. Such TNAs/SnO2/PPy/β-PbO2 electrode exhibited a higher charge transfer, tolerable stability, and high oxygen evolution potential (OEP). The intriguing structure with a SnO2, PPy, and β-PbO2 active layers provided a larger electrochemical active area for electrocatalytic As(III) oxidation. The as-synthesized TNAs/SnO2/PPy/β-PbO2 anode achieved drastically enhanced As(Ⅲ) conversion efficiency of 90.72% compared to that of TNAs/β-PbO2 at circa 45.4%. The active species involved in the electrocatalytic oxidation process included superoxide radical (•O2-), sulfuric acid root radicals (•SO4-), and hydroxyl radicals (•OH). This work offers a new strategy to construct a high-efficiency electrode to meet the requirements of favorable electrocatalytic oxidation properties, good stability, and high electrocatalytic activity for As(III) transformation to As(V).

Abstract
Abstract
The review focuses on the recent development in anode materials and their synthesis approach, focusing on their compatibility for treating actual industrial wastewater, improving selectivity, electrocatalytic activity, stability at higher concentration, and thereby reducing the mineralization cost for organic pollutant degradation. The advancement in sol–gel technique, including the Pechini method, is discussed in the first section. A separate discussion related to the selection of the electrodeposition method and its deciding parameters is also included. Furthermore, the effect of using advanced heating approaches, including microwave and laser deposition synthesis, is also discussed. Next, a separate discussion is provided on using different types of anode materials and their effect on active •OH radical generation, activity, and electrode stability in direct and indirect oxidation and future aspects. The effect of using different synthesis approaches, additives, and doping is discussed separately for each anode. Graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and metal doping enhance the number of active sites, electrochemical activity, and mineralization current efficiency (MCE) of the anode. While, microwave or laser heating approaches were proved to be an effective, cheaper, and fast alternative to conventional heating. The electrodeposition and nonaqueous solvent synthesis were convenient and environment-friendly techniques for conductive metallic and polymeric film deposition.

Abstract
A polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) doped PbO2 anode with a highly hydrophobicity was fabricated by electrodeposition method. In this process, vertically aligned TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2NTs) are formed by the anodic oxidation of Ti plates as an intermediate layer for PbO2 electrodeposition. The characterization of the electrodes indicated that PTFE was successfully introduced to the electrode surface, the TiO2NTs were completely covered with β-PbO2 particles and gave it a large surface area, which also limited the growth of its crystal particles. Compared with the conventional Ti/PbO2 and Ti/TiO2NTs/PbO2 electrode, the Ti/TiO2NTs/PbO2-PTFE electrode has enhanced surface hydrophobicity, higher oxygen evolution potential, lower electrochemical impedance, with more active sites, and generate more hydroxyl radicals (·OH), which were enhanced by the addition of PTFE nanoparticles. The electrocatalytic performance of the three electrodes were investigated using dibutyl phthalate (DBP) as the model pollutant. The efficiency of the DBP removal of the three electrodes was in the order: Ti/TiO2NTs/PbO2-PTFE > Ti/TiO2NTs/PbO2 > Ti/PbO2. The degradation process followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model well, with rate constants of 0.1326, 0.1266, and 0.1041 h-1 for the three electrodes, respectively. The lowest energy consumption (6.1 kWh g-1) was obtained after 8 h of DBP treatment using Ti/TiO2NTs/PbO2-PTFE compared to Ti/TiO2NTs/PbO2 (6.7 kWh g-1) and Ti/PbO2 (7.4 kWh g-1) electrodes. Moreover, the effects of current density, initial pH and electrolyte concentration were investigated. Finally, the products of the DBP degradation process were verified based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, and possible degradation pathways were described.

Abstract
Coal tar wastewater is hard to degrade by traditional methods because of its toxic pollutant constituents and high concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons, especially phenolic substances. A new type of hydrophobic benzacetone modified PbO2 anode (BA-PbO2 electrodes) was used for the electrocatalytic treatment of coal tar wastewater in a continuous cycle reactor. The surface morphology, structure, valences of elements, hydrophobicity, hydroxyl radical (·OH) produced capacity, electrochemical properties and stability of BA-PbO2 electrodes were characterized by SEM (scanning electron microscopy), XRD (X-ray diffraction), XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), contact angle, a fluorescence probe test, an electrochemical workstation and accelerated life test, respectively. The BA-PbO2 electrodes exhibited a compact structure and finely dispersed crystallize size of 4.6 nm. The optimum degradation conditions of coal tar wastewater were as follows: current density of 90 mA cm-2, electrode gap of 1 cm and temperature at 25 °C with flow velocity of 80 L h-1. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency reached 92.39% after 240 min of degradation under the optimized conditions and the after-treatment COD value was 379.51 mg L-1 which was lower than the centralized emission standard (less than 400 mg L-1). These findings demonstrated the feasibility and efficiency of electrocatalytically degrading coal tar wastewater by BA-PbO2 electrodes. The possible mechanism and pathway for phenol a specific pollutant in coal tar wastewater were investigated by quantum chemistry calculations (Multiwfn) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The toxicity of each intermediate was predicted by the ECOSAR program.

Abstract
The industry is looking for new materials which can respond to specific applications that exclusively advance materials can provide. In this context, nanoparticles and nanocomposites opened an interesting method for designing specific properties which can be modulated according to the requirements. The preparation of biomolecules supported trimetallic nanoparticles and some other derives is a good example of the complex systems that can be designed for getting exclusive properties. This study is based on the preparation of new cyclodextrin supported Fe/La/Zn trimetallic nanocomposite by the microemulsion technique. Photocatalytic degradation of amoxicillin was performed using cyclodextrin-Fe/La/Zn. 78% of amoxicillin photodegradation along 4 hours of photoirradiation was achieved. Finally, the catalytic nature of new material was explored for oxidation and esterification reactions. The present study revealed that this advanced multifunctional nanomaterial can be successfully employed for environmental remediation and catalytic activities.
