Abstract
Failure of conventional mosquito control strategies to curb the population of vectors have made the humans vulnerable to serious medical problems transmitted by them. This effect has been compounded by global climate change enabling the mosquitoes to cross geographical boundaries and cause trouble in regions where they were initially not found. As such, the scientific community has been compelled to devise alternative and innovative strategies of mosquito control that can be integrated with the conventional practices to implement multi-phasic approach of vector management. Culex quinquefasciatus is one such mosquito species that is reported to be one of the primary vectors of lymphatic filariasis and many other diseases of global health concern. However, not much is known about its breeding habitat ecology and microbial properties that have enabled the species to achieve reproductive success in urbanized habitats. The current investigation was carried out at Digha, West Bengal, India. The region, despite being endemic for lymphatic filariasis, has rarely been explored for its mosquito diversity and/or their breeding habitat characteristics. Therefore, these were attempted. For survey and sampling, seven villages were chosen, namely, Duttapur, Jatimati, Champabani, Padima, Gobindabasan, Bhagibaharampur and Palsandapur. The study showed that Cx. quinquefasciatus is the dominant mosquito species at the sampling sites with the highest density of their larvae being recorded from man-made structures like drains and pools close to human habitations and livestock. The study was, therefore, restricted to Cx. quinquefasciatus. Seasonal abundance showed that they were most prevalent in the monsoon followed by summer. The physicochemical characterization showed their larvae to prefer almost neutral pH (6.9 to 7.3), low chloride concentration (98 to 258 ppm) and turbidity. As far as other parameters are concerned, they were tolerant towards a wide range allowing them to adapt varied habitats in the study areas. The bacterial profiling of their natural habitat waters revealed the presence of Paenibacillus nanensis DGX1(OQ690670), Bacillus cereus DGX2(OQ690675), Bacillus sp. DGX3(OQ690700) and Escherichia coli DGX4(OQ690701). Bacillus cereus was found to have high oviposition attractant properties in oviposition assays. Bacillus cereus was also obtained from the midgut of third instar larvae indicating that they had entered from the surrounding medium and colonized the larval gut. Subsequent tests exhibited the roles of B. cereus in larval development. Numerous plant products have been reported either as insecticides for killing larvae or adult mosquitoes or as repellents for mosquito biting and the best alternatives for mosquito control. Larvicidal potential of emulsified neem oil formulation against the field collected 3rd instar larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito under laboratory conditions was also evaluated. The information thus obtained can be pooled to generate larval source markers and larval source management practices by altering their habitats that cannot be removed. Furthermore, the time of implementation of these strategies can also be planned.

Abstract
Despite the fact that mosquito-borne infections have considerable consequences for public health in Saudi Arabia, there is neither a thorough review of the species that occur in the country nor updated keys for the identification of the adult females. In this study, species accounts are given for 49 Saudi Arabian mosquito species, as well as Aedes albopictus (Skuse), which is not recorded in Saudi Arabia, but is medically important and is found in some countries of the Middle East and North Africa. Taxonomic notes provide additional information for certain taxa and/or aid their identification.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected human lifestyle in numerous ways and one such key affected social element is the management of household plastic waste. Due to its effective barrier properties against the COVID-19 virus, usage and consumption of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other single-use plastic (SUP) products have increased exponentially to meet the accelerated demand. Therefore, this paper analyses the changes in community behavioural patterns of household plastic waste management with the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation in Sri Lanka. The comparative analysis of majorly consumed plastic waste types, plastic disposal methods, and perceptions of existing policies before and after the pandemic are broadly discussed. A comprehensive questionnaire was conducted in a stratified randomly sampled community and analysed using SPSS. Disposable face masks (39.9%) and hand sanitiser products (33.0%) were popular plastic products during the pandemic. The frequency of handing over the waste to collectors and recycling centres decreased slightly, from 32.1% to 31.4% and 24.2%-19.8%, respectively. Conversely, respondents' preference for burning plastic waste increased from 23.4% to 27.0% after the pandemic. The plastic disposal methods from before and after the pandemic are significantly associated with income level (p = 0.00) and employment status (p = 0.00). No significant association was observed between the disposal method before the pandemic and the education level of respondents (p = 0.185). However, a significant association was evident between the disposal method after the pandemic and the education level of respondents (p = 0.025).

Abstract
Aquatic insect fauna remains an important tool for bio indication of environmental disturbance, while maintaining a healthy aquatic system. The purpose of the study was to document and to identify the diversity and distribution patterns of aquatic insect, a highly ignored aspect from the Qatar. Following the standard procedures, the samples were collected from aquatic habitats during the period October 2015 to May 2017 on monthly basis. A total of 11,287 individuals, belonging to 6 orders were captured. Dipterans were the abundant with the percentages of 71.01 (n=8,015), while the lowest percentage was observed for Coleoptera 0.04 (n=05). Twelve insects families were identified, among these five were reported under Diptera, followed by Hemiptera (03), while Coleoptera, Tricoptera, Odonata, and Ephemeroptera were represented by single families. Among the selected localities, Dipterans were collected from 10 stations, followed by Hemiptera (9), Coleoptera (4), Odonota (4), Ephemeroptera (3) and Trichoptera (1) respectively. Among the water bodies samples, streams were the most preferred habitats (n=2,767), while drinking water pools were the least (27). Moreover, the highest Simpson diversity index of 1.48 and lowest of 0.47 was recorded for flooded sewage pool and plastic containers respectively, while the low evenness values were observed for ponds, and less than 1 Margalef's diversity values were seen for all habitats. This study documents the patterns of the diversity and distribution of aquatic insects, and provides a baseline for the future studies from Qatar.
