Abstract
Cancer is a widespread but dangerous disease that can strike anyone and is the second 1leading cause of death worldwide. Prostate cancer, in particular, is a prevalent cancer that occurs in men, and much research is being done on its treatment. Although chemical drugs are effective, they have various side effects, and accordingly, anticancer drugs using natural products are emerging. To date, many natural candidates have been discovered, and new drugs are being developed as drugs to treat prostate cancer. Representative candidate compounds that have been studied to be effective in prostate cancer include apigenin, acacetin and tangeretin of the flavone family among flavonoids. In this review, we look at the effects of these three flavones on prostate cancer cells via apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, in addition to the existing drugs, we suggest the three flavones and their effectiveness as natural anticancer agents, a treatment model for prostate cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adherence and persistence studies face several methodologic difficulties, including short-term mortality. We compared approaches to quantify adherence and persistence to first line (1L) oral targeted therapy (TT) in patients diagnosed with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). METHODS Patients with mRCC ages 66 years or more who initiated TTs within 4 months of diagnosis were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Medicare-linked database (2007-2015). Adherence [proportion of days covered (PDC) >80%] was calculated using (i) PDC with a fixed 6-month denominator including then excluding patients who died within the 6 months and (ii) PDC with a denominator measuring time on treatment. Risk of nonpersistence was obtained by censoring death or treating death as a competing risk using cumulative incidence functions. RESULTS Among 485 patients with mRCC initiating a 1L oral TT (sunitinib, 64%; pazopanib, 25%; other, 11%), 40% died within 6 months. Adherence was higher after restricting to patients who survived (60%) compared with including those patients and assigning zero days covered after death (47%). Risk of nonpersistence was higher when censoring patients at death, 0.91 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.88-0.94], compared with treating death as a competing risk, 0.75 (95% CI, 0.71-0.79). CONCLUSIONS Different approaches to handling death resulted in different adherence and persistence estimates in the metastatic setting. Future studies should explicitly report the proportion of patient deaths over time and explore appropriate methods to account for death as competing risk. IMPACT Use of several approaches can provide a more comprehensive picture of medication-taking behavior in the metastatic setting where death is a major competing risk.

Patients' and Nurses' Perceptions of the Effectiveness of an Oral Cancer Agent Education Process: A Mixed-Methods Study. Cancer Nurs 2021; 44:E151-E162. Abstract
BACKGROUND The increase in the use of oral cancer drugs implies that nurses take on new roles for which education and support to patients and family members become fundamental for promoting therapeutic adherence. OBJECTIVE To describe the patients' and nurses' perceptions on the effectiveness of the educational process in oral cancer treatment. METHODS A mixed method with a convergent design was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire (structured according to the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer Teaching Tool for Patients Receiving Oral Agents for Cancer guidelines) and semistructured interviews with patients. Focus groups were used with the nurses. Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 (IBM SPSS 22.0, Armonk, New York). Qualitative data were analyzed using semantic analysis. RESULTS One hundred forty-two questionnaires were analyzed. Patients were usually informed by physicians and nurses (81%), alone (33%) or in the presence of an informal carer (29.6%). Language comprehension was high, with a significant difference between those 70 years or older (P = .04) and those younger than 70 years. From the interviews (n = 16), 3 themes were identified: emotions during communication, feeling reassured by the presence of family members and nurses, feeling welcomed and an active part of the educational process. Three themes were identified from the focus groups (n = 4): prerequisites for an effective therapeutic education, nurses' skills, and educational process barriers. CONCLUSIONS Overall, patients were satisfied with the education received. They perceived nurses as people who can help them understand the information they have received and manage their treatment and adverse effects. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE This study highlighted some important points for an effective educational process: having a nurse to refer to, technical relationship competences, joint visits with physicians, and being available by phone.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral therapies are increasingly common in oncology care. However, data are lacking regarding the physical and psychologic symptoms patients experience, or how these factors relate to medication adherence and quality of life (QoL). MATERIALS AND METHODS From December 2014 through August 2016, a total of 181 adult patients who were prescribed oral targeted therapy or chemotherapy enrolled in a randomized study of adherence and symptom management at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. Patients completed baseline assessments of adherence with electronic pill cap, QoL, symptom severity, mood, social support, fatigue, and satisfaction with clinicians and treatment. Relationships among these factors were examined using Pearson product-moment correlations and multivariable linear regression. RESULTS At baseline, the mean electronic pill cap adherence rate showed that patients took 85.57% of their oral therapy. The most commonly reported cancer-related symptoms were fatigue (88.60%), drowsiness (76.50%), disturbed sleep (68.20%), memory problems (63.10%), and emotional distress (60.80%). Patients who reported greater cancer-related symptom severity had lower adherence (r= -0.20). In a multivariable regression, greater depressive and anxiety symptoms, worse fatigue, less social support, lower satisfaction with clinicians and treatment, and higher symptom burden were associated with worse QoL (F[10, 146]=50.53; adjusted R2=0.77). Anxiety symptoms were most strongly associated with clinically meaningful decrements in QoL (β= -7.10; SE=0.22). CONCLUSIONS Patients prescribed oral therapies struggle with adherence, and cancer-related symptom burden is high and related to worse adherence and QoL. Given perceptions that oral therapies are less impairing, these data underscore the strong need to address adherence issues, symptom burden, and QoL for these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy is commonly used in combination with other treatments for breast cancer. However, low adherence to chemotherapy is a growing concern, particularly among breast cancer patients. Side effects such as nausea and vomiting, fatigue, and arthralgia can contribute to reduced adherence. Other factors such as provider communication and limited insurance coverage can affect adherence. Studies have shown that as much as 28% of patients with breast cancer did not continue with their prescribed dose of chemotherapy. Research suggests that chemotherapy education materials can be critical to addressing problems with non-adherence, and may include written materials, verbal instruction, and multimedia programs. Despite this wide variety, the effectiveness and benefit of chemotherapy education hinges on the patients' health literacy. Breast cancer patients with low health literacy may be unclear about chemotherapy or face difficulty adhering to treatment if they do not understand the information provided to them. Thus, this scoping review summarizes the existing research on how health literacy principles are incorporated into breast cancer chemotherapy education materials. METHODS Using a combination of keywords (e.g. chemotherapy, education) and Medical subject headings (MeSH) terms (e.g., drug therapy, antineoplastic agents), we searched five databases (1977-2017): CINAHL, PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. RESULTS Eight of 4,624 articles met the inclusion criteria. Five articles incorporated health literacy principles (e.g., plain language, maintaining an active voice, using white space) into the development of written materials. Few articles used a theoretical framework to guide education material development (n = 3). Of the three articles that described pilot-testing of educational materials, two used post-tests only and one used a pre/post-test design. CONCLUSIONS Findings indicated that limited research exists regarding the use of health literacy principles in chemotherapy education materials. Much of the development of chemotherapy education is not grounded in theory and the application of health literacy principles is limited. Implementing health literacy principles may improve overall comprehension of education thereby increasing adherence.

Abstract
With the increased number of oral systemic anti-cancer treatments available, patients need to be managed safely and effectively in line with national guidance. In response to guidance in 2011, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust implemented an 'Oral Education Clinic'. This nurse- and pharmacist-led clinic facilitates the delivery of patient education, highlighting key safety aspects of drug administration and management, and ensures follow-up is arranged as per protocol. Patients have found this service to be effective and it has had a positive impact on the running of outpatient units, the volume of triage calls, emergency admissions and workload associated with consenting patients to an oral systemic anti-cancer treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral therapy (OT) use for cancer is increasing globally. Yet, nurses in 4 Latin American countries lacked knowledge and educational opportunities to safely care for people receiving OTs. Global partnerships to contextualize education and create local capacity may enhance nursing practice. OBJECTIVE Within 4 Latin American countries, this study aims to (1) develop, deliver, and evaluate an OT cancer nursing education program and (2) evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of using an integrated knowledge translation (iKT) framework to develop the program and foster nurses' capacity for OT care. METHODS Using the iKT framework, a "train the trainer" model was used to develop, contextualize, pilot test, implement, and evaluate the OT education program. An online survey evaluated nurses' perceived benefits, ease of use, barriers, facilitators, and recommendations for improvement. Nurses' self-reported OT practices were evaluated 9 months after the final workshop. RESULTS One hundred nineteen nurses across 4 countries participated in a pilot and/or final OT educational workshop, facilitated by 6 local nurse champions. The nurse champions found the program easy to use and modify. Participants reported using the curriculum to teach other nurses and patients and networking opportunities for problem solving. Barriers included nurses' role clarity and time for education. CONCLUSIONS The iKT approach was an effective method to develop the OT curriculum and build OT capacity among nurses and leaders within the 4 countries. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE The iKT approach may be useful in low- or middle-income countries to enhance nursing education and practice. Future OT education projects should strengthen strategies for ongoing support after education intervention.

Abstract
Due to the increase of oral agents nonadherence is an emerging challenge in cancer care. We evaluated how well different assessments match and how adherence could be measured in routine care. For this purpose patients suffering from metastatic solid tumors who were treated with oral anticancer drugs in an oncology group practice were surveyed. Attending oncologists answered a questionnaire, too, and a retrospective analysis of prescription data was conducted. Caregivers who were eligible for an interview were surveyed additionally. 128 patients (70 % female) with a median age of 69 years (36-88) took part, 95 % of all approached patients. 56 % suffered from metastatic breast cancer, 44 % from other metastatic solid tumors. 65 caregivers (60 % female) with a median age of 62 years (21-82) were interviewed as well. Patients were assessed in 84 % as very reliable in medication-taking by their oncologists. This high adherence rate was supported by patients, caregivers and prescription data. However, concordance between assessments of patients, caregivers and oncologists was not substantial. Our method of considering different perspectives to assess adherence has to be improved and validated but could help to evaluate adherence with oral cancer therapy in routine care.

Abstract
Cancer is a disease that mostly affects older adults. Other health conditions, changes in functional status, and use of multiple medications change the risks and benefits of cancer treatment for older adults. Several international organizations, such as the International Society of Geriatric Oncology, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, recommend the conduct of a geriatric assessment (GA) for older adults with cancer to help select the most appropriate treatment and identify any underlying undetected medical, functional, and psychosocial issues that can interfere with treatment. The aim of this review is to describe what a GA is and how to implement it in daily clinical practice for older adults with cancer in the oncology setting. We provide an overview of commonly used tools. Key considerations in performing the GA include the resources available (staff, space, and time), patient population (who will be assessed), what GA tools to use, and clinical follow-up (who will be responsible for using the GA results for developing care plans and who will provide follow-up care). Important challenges in implementing GA in clinical practice include not having easy and timely access to geriatric expertise, patient burden of the additional hospital visits, and establishing collaboration between the GA team and oncologists regarding expectations of the population referred for GA and expected outcomes of the GA. Finally, we provide some possible interventions for problems identified during the GA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer is a disease that mostly affects older adults. Treatment adherence is crucial to obtain optimal outcomes such as cure or improvement in quality of life. Older adults have numerous comorbidites as well as cognitive and sensory impairments that may affect adherence. The aim of this systematic review was to examine factors that influence adherence to cancer treatment in older adults with cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Systematic review of the literature published between inception of the databases and February 2013. English, Dutch, French and German-language articles reporting cross-sectional or longitudinal, intervention or observational studies of cancer treatment adherence were included. Data sources included MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsychINFO, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL), Web of Science, ASSIA, Ageline, Allied and Complementary Medicine (AMED), SocAbstracts and the Cochrane Library. Two reviewers reviewed abstracts and abstracted data using standardized forms. Study quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool 2011. RESULTS Twenty-two manuscripts were identified reporting on 18 unique studies. The quality of most studies was good. Most studies focused on women with breast cancer and adherence to adjuvant hormonal therapy. More than half of the studies used data from administrative or clinical databases or chart reviews. The adherence rate varied from 52% to 100%. Only one qualitative study asked older adults about reasons for non-adherence. Factors associated with non-adherence varied widely across studies. CONCLUSION Non-adherence was common across studies but little is known about the factors influencing non-adherence. More research is needed to investigate why older adults choose to adhere or not adhere to their treatment regimens taking into account their multimorbidity.
