Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare robotic-assisted laparoscopy (RAL) and laparoscopy (LPS) for intraoperative and postoperative outcomes, and functional results after a 6-month follow-up period among patients having undergone excision of deep endometriosis (DE) involving the sacral plexus (SP) and sciatic nerve (SN). METHODS A retrospective analysis of 100 patients included in our prospective database, who underwent surgical eradication of DE involving the SP and SN at our tertiary referral centre between September 2018 and June 2023. Patients were managed by LPS (n = 71) until 2021, and subsequently by RAL (n = 29). RESULTS Baseline symptoms and distribution of DE lesions were comparable in the two groups. Nerve dissection, nerve shaving, and intra-nerve dissection were performed in 55 (77.5%), 14 (19.7%), and 2 (5.6%) patients in the LPS group, respectively. Nerve dissection and nerve shaving were performed and in 24 (82.8%) and 5 (17.2%) patients in the RAL group, while no cases of intra-nerve dissection were observed (P = 0.434). Mean operative times were 183.71 ± 85.32 min and 177.41 ± 77.19 min, respectively (P = 0.734). There were no reported cases of conversion to open surgery. Intraoperative and early postoperative complications were comparable between the two groups. At 6 months follow up, we observed a significant reduction in sciatic pain in both the LPS group (39.1% vs 15.6%, P < 0.001) and RAL group (37.5% vs 25%, P = 0.001), with no differences in terms of outcomes (P = 0.1). CONCLUSION Both LPS and RAL result in significant long-term relief of symptoms associated with SP and SN endometriosis. Although surgeons found that RAL improved the quality of excision of these specific DE localizations, our study did not reveal significant advantages in terms of its outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The landscape of robotic surgery is evolving with the emergence of new platforms. However, reports on their applicability in different surgical fields are still limited and come from teams with robotics experience. This study aims to describe the training process for colorectal surgery with the Hugo™ RAS system of a robotics-inexperienced surgical team and present the initial patient series. METHODS The training process is depicted, and data from the first 10 consecutive patients operated on for colorectal conditions with the Hugo™ RAS system by a surgical team with no prior experience in robotic surgery were prospectively recorded and analysed. RESULTS The team received intensive training in robotic surgery and specifically in the Hugo™ RAS system previously to the first case. Between May 2023 and December 2023, 10 patients underwent colorectal procedures: 5 right colectomies, 3 sigmoid resections, 1 high rectal resection and 1 ventral mesh rectopexy. The first case was proctored by an expert. Median docking time was 14 min and median total operative time was 185 min. The only technical difficulty during the procedures was occasional clashing of robotic arms. None had to be converted, and no intraoperative or postoperative morbidity was recorded. Hospital stays ranged from 2 to 4 days. A median of 21 lymph nodes were yielded in the operations for malignant conditions. CONCLUSIONS Common colorectal procedures can be safely performed using the Hugo™ RAS platform. Prior experience in robotic surgery is not a necessary requirement, but following a structured training program is essential.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To perform surgical staging of early stage ovarian cancer (EOC), conventional laparoscopy (LS) and robot-assisted laparoscopy (RLS) appear to be reliable procedures compared to open surgery. But oncologicals results with long-term follow up are limited in the literature. The objective of this study is to evaluate the surgical and long-term survival for patients managed by minimally invasive surgery (MIS). MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a multicentric retrospective study in 6 institutions. All patients referred for epithelial EOC (apparent stage I-IIa) managed with LS and RLS were involved. RESULTS From December 2008 to December 2017, 140 patients were included (109 in LS group and 31 in RLS group). A total of 27 (19.2 %) patients were upstaged to an advanced ovarian cancer (FIGO stage > IIA), and 73 % of patients received chemotherapy. Mean operative time was 265,8 ± 88,4 min and significantly longer in RLS group (LS = 254,5 ± 86,8; RLS = 305,6 ± 85,5; p = 0,008). Rate of severe post-operative complications (grade 3) was 5,7 %. Thirteen conversion to laparotomy occurred, including one per-operative hemorrhaege. After a mean follow-up of 60,7 months, 29 (20.7 %) patients recurred, with a time to recurrence was >24 months in 51,7 % of cases. Overall survival (OS) was 88.6 % and disease-free survival (DFS) was 79.3 %. Oncologic outcomes were similar between LS and RLS group (OS: p = 0,504 and DFS: p = 0,213). CONCLUSION Surgical staging of EOC by LS or RLS approach has long-term equivalent surgical and oncological approach. These results seem to be equivalent to open surgery according to literature review.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is part of the primary treatment for early-stage cervical cancer and high-intermediate risk or high-risk endometrial cancer. Pelvic lymphocele is a postoperative complication of PLND, and when symptomatic, lymphoceles necessitate treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors of symptomatic lymphocele after robot-assisted laparoscopic PLND in cervical and endometrial cancer. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Single-center academic hospital. PATIENTS Two hundred and fifty-eight patients with cervical cancer and 129 patients with endometrial cancer. INTERVENTIONS Pelvic lymphadenectomy by robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS The authors retrospectively included all patients with early-stage cervical cancer and high-intermediate risk or high-risk endometrial cancer who underwent pelvic lymphadenectomy by robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery between 2008 and 2022. Medical records were reviewed for the occurrence of a symptomatic lymphocele. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify risk factors for developing a symptomatic lymphocele. In total, 387 patients, 258 with cervical cancer and 129 with endometrial cancer, were included in the study. The overall incidence of symptomatic lymphoceles was 9.6% with a median follow-up of 47 months [interquartile range 23-61]. For the entire cohort, smoking was the only significant risk factor for symptomatic lymphoceles identified in univariate (OR 2.47, 95% CI 1.19-5.11) and multivariate analysis (OR 2.42, 95% CI 1.16-5.07). For cervical cancer, body mass index (BMI) (OR 1.09, 95% CI 1.00-1.17) and prior abdominal surgery (OR 2.75, 95% CI 1.22-6.17) were also identified as significant independent risk factors. For endometrial cancer, age was identified as a significant independent risk factor (OR 0.90, 95% CI 0.83-0.97). CONCLUSION This single-center cohort study demonstrated an incidence of almost 10% of symptomatic lymphoceles after robot-assisted laparoscopic PLND for cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, with a higher risk observed among patients who smoke at the time of diagnosis. Furthermore, risk factors differ between the 2 populations, necessitating further studies to establish risk models.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vaginectomy has been shown to be effective for select patients with vaginal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and is favored by gynecologists, while there are few reports on the robotic-assisted laparoscopic vaginectomy (RALV). The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and treatment outcomes between RALV and the conventional laparoscopic vaginectomy (CLV) for patients with vaginal HSIL. METHODS This retrospective cohort study was conducted in 109 patients with vaginal HSIL who underwent either RALV (RALV group) or CLV (CLV group) from December 2013 to May 2022. The operative data, homogeneous HPV infection regression rate and vaginal HSIL regression rate were compared between the two groups. Student's t-test, the Mann-Whitney U test, Pearson χ2 test or the Fisher exact test, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional-hazards models were used for data analysis. RESULTS There were 32 patients in the RALV group and 77 patients in the CLV group. Compared with the CLV group, patients in the RALV group demonstrated less estimated blood loss (41.6 ± 40.3 mL vs. 68.1 ± 56.4 mL, P = 0.017), lower intraoperative complications rate (6.3% vs. 24.7%, P = 0.026), and shorter flatus passing time (2.0 (1.0-2.0) vs. 2.0 (2.0-2.0), P < 0.001), postoperative catheterization time (2.0 (2.0-3.0) vs. 4.0 (2.0-6.0), P = 0.001) and postoperative hospitalization time (4.0 (4.0-5.0) vs. 5.0 (4.0-6.0), P = 0.020). In addition, the treatment outcomes showed that both RALV group and CLV group had high homogeneous HPV infection regression rate (90.0% vs. 92.0%, P > 0.999) and vaginal HSIL regression rate (96.7% vs. 94.7%, P = 0.805) after vaginectomy. However, the RALV group had significantly higher hospital costs than that in the CLV group (53035.1 ± 9539.0 yuan vs. 32706.8 ± 6659.2 yuan, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Both RALV and CLV can achieve satisfactory treatment outcomes, while RALV has the advantages of less intraoperative blood loss, fewer intraoperative complications rate and faster postoperative recovery. Robotic-assisted surgery has the potential to become a better choice for vaginectomy in patients with vaginal HSIL without regard to the burden of hospital costs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery is performed with and without concomitant hysterectomy depending on a variety of factors. The objective was to compare 30-day major complications following POP surgery with and without concomitant hysterectomy. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) multicenter database to compare 30-day complications using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for POP with or without concomitant hysterectomy. Patients were grouped by procedure: Vaginal prolapse repair (VAGINAL), minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy (MISC), and open abdominal sacrocolpopexy (OASC). 30-day postoperative complications and other relevant data were evaluated in patients who underwent concomitant hysterectomy compared to those who did not. Multivariable logistic regression models assessed the association of concomitant hysterectomy on 30-day major complications stratified by surgical approach. RESULTS 60,201 women undergoing POP surgery comprised our cohort. Within 30 days of surgery, there were 1722 major complications in 1432 patients (2.4%). Prolapse surgery alone had a significantly lower overall complication rate than with concomitant hysterectomy (1.95% vs 2.81%; p < .001). Multivariable analysis revealed odds of complications following POP surgery was higher among women who underwent concomitant hysterectomy compared to those who did not have hysterectomy in VAGINAL (OR 1.53, 95% CI 1.36-1.72), OASC (OR 2.70, 95% CI 1.69-4.33), and overall (OR 1.46, 95% CI 1.31-1.62), but not in MISC (OR 0.99, 95% CI 0.67-1.46.) CONCLUSION: Concomitant hysterectomy at the time of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery increases the risk of 30-day postoperative complications in comparison to prolapse surgery alone in our overall cohort.

Abstract
Laparoscopic surgery has evolved with technological advances in many aspects and increasing demand for its benefits in cosmetics, fast recovery, reduced complication rates and pain. However, it still possesses drawbacks such as limited surgical movement due to the nature of rigid laparoscopic instruments. In order to overcome such limitations, several laparoscopic jointed instruments have been developed. In this prospective multicenter, single-arm cohort study, we investigated the short-term safety and feasibility of the new articulating laparoscopic instruments in benign gynecologic surgery. A total of 113 patients who were diagnosed with benign gynecologic adnexal diseases underwent laparoscopic surgery with articulating laparoscopic instruments. Surgical outcomes, including intra/postoperative complication rates, operation time and estimated blood loss, as well as surgeon's subjective evaluation of the usage of the instruments, were evaluated. The results demonstrated that the articulating laparoscopic instruments had comparable usability and produced similar surgical outcomes to conventional laparoscopic surgery. The objective parameters, such as the operative time and complication rates, as well as the subjective parameters, such as the surgeon's own evaluation of the surgical instruments' usability, demonstrated potential benefits of the instruments in benign gynecological diseases. Overall, the study demonstrated that the use of this novel articulating device is feasible in gynecologic laparoscopic surgery.

Abstract
We compared surgical outcomes between single-port access total laparoscopic hysterectomy (SPA-TLH) and hybrid robotic single-site hysterectomy (RSSH), a new technique of combining the benefits of SPA-TLH with RSSH in this study. A total of 64 patients were retrospectively analyzed. They underwent either hybrid RSSH or SPA-TLH for benign gynecologic disease between December 2018 and August 2021. To assess the feasibility of hybrid RSSH, the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes were compared between the hybrid RSSH group (n = 29) and the SPA-TLH group (n = 35). All of the surgeries were completed without requiring additional ports or conversion to laparotomy. The surgical outcomes including total operative time, uterine weight, estimated blood loss, hemoglobin changes, length of hospital stay, and postoperative pain scores were not significantly different between the two groups. The colpotomy time, including the detachment of the uterosacral and cardinal ligaments, was shorter in the hybrid RSSH group than in the SPA-TLH group (8.0 min vs. 14.0 min; p = 0.029). However, the vaginal cuff closure time was longer in the hybrid RSSH group than in the SPA-TLH group (15.0 min vs.10.0 min; p = 0.001). No difference was observed with regards to intraoperative and postoperative complications. Hybrid RSSH appears to be a feasible procedure for hysterectomy in patients with benign gynecologic diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Uterine fibroids are the most frequently diagnosed gynaecological tumours, and they often require surgical treatment (conventional laparoscopic myomectomy-CLM). The introduction and evolution of robotic-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy (RALM) in the early 2000s has expanded the range of minimally invasive options for the majority of cases. This study aims to compare RALM with CLM and abdominal myomectomy (AM). METHODS AND MATERIALS Fifty-three eligible studies adhered to the pre-established inclusion criteria and were subsequently evaluated for risk of bias and statistical heterogeneity. RESULTS The available comparative studies were compared using surgical outcomes, namely blood loss, complication rate, transfusion rate, operation duration, conversion to laparotomy, and length of hospitalisation. RALM was significantly superior to AM in all assessed parameters other than operation duration. RALM and CLM performed similarly in most parameters; however, RALM was associated with reduced intra-operative bleeding in patients with small fibroids and had lower rates of conversion to laparotomy, proving RALM as a safer overall approach. CONCLUSION The robotic approach for surgical treatment of uterine fibroids is a safe, effective, and viable approach, which is constantly being improved and may soon acquire widespread adoption and prove to be superior to CLM in certain patient subgroups.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Robotic-assisted laparoscopy (RALS) has gained widespread acceptance in the field of gynecological oncology. However, whether the prognosis of endometrial cancer after RALS is superior to conventional laparoscopy (CLS) and laparotomy (LT) remains inconclusive. Therefore, the aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the long-term survival outcomes of RALS with CLS and LT for endometrial cancer. METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted on electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane, EMBASE and Web of Science) until May 24, 2022, followed by a manual search. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, publications investigating long-term survival outcomes after RALS vs CLS or LT in endometrial cancer patients were collected. The primary outcomes included overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), recurrence-free survival (RFS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Fixed effects models or random effects models were employed to calculate the pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) as appropriate. Heterogeneity and publication bias were also assessed. RESULTS RALS and CLS had no difference in OS (HR = 0.962, 95% CI: 0.922-1.004), RFS (HR = 1.096, 95% CI: 0.947-1.296), and DSS (HR = 1.489, 95% CI: 0.713-3.107) for endometrial cancer; however, RALS was significantly associated with favorable OS (HR = 0.682, 95% CI: 0.576-0.807), RFS (HR = 0.793, 95% CI: 0.653-0.964), and DSS (HR = 0.441, 95% CI: 0.298-0.652) when compared with LT. In the subgroup analysis of effect measures and follow-up length, RALS showed comparable or superior RFS/OS to CLS and LT. In early-stage endometrial cancer patients, RALS had similar OS but worse RFS than CLS. CONCLUSIONS RALS is safe in the management of endometrial cancer, with long-term oncological outcomes equivalent to CLS and superior to LT.

Abstract
Infertility is a global health issue affecting women and men of reproductive age with increasing incidence worldwide, in part due to greater awareness and better diagnosis. Assisted reproduction technologies (ART) are considered the ultimate step in the treatment of infertility. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been progressively used in the many fields of medicine, integrating knowledge and computer science through machine learning algorithms. AI has the potential to improve infertility diagnosis and ART outcomes estimated as pregnancy and/or live birth rate, especially with recurrent ART failure. A broad-ranging review has been conducted, focusing on clinical AI applications up until September 2022, which could be estimated in terms of possible applications, such as ultrasound monitoring of folliculogenesis, endometrial receptivity, embryo selection based on quality and viability, and prediction of post implantation embryo development, in order to eliminate potential contributing risk factors. Oocyte morphology assessment is highly relevant in terms of successful fertilization rate, as well as during oocyte freezing for fertility preservation, and substantially valuable in oocyte donation cycles. AI has great implications in the assessment of male infertility, with computerised semen analysis systems already in use and a broad spectrum of possible AI-based applications in environmental and lifestyle evaluation to predict semen quality. In addition, considerable progress has been made in terms of harnessing AI in cases of idiopathic infertility, to improve the stratification of infertile/fertile couples based on their biological and clinical signatures. With AI as a very powerful tool of the future, our review is meant to summarise current AI applications and investigations in contemporary reproduction medicine, mainly focusing on the nonsurgical aspects of it; in addition, the authors have briefly explored the frames of reference and guiding principles for the definition and implementation of legal, regulatory, and ethical standards for AI in healthcare.

Abstract
Surgical robots were invented in the 1980s, and since then, robotic-assisted surgery has become commonplace. In the field of spine surgery, robotic assistance is utilized mainly to place pedicle screws, and multiple studies have demonstrated that robots can increase the accuracy of screw placement and reduce radiation exposure to the patient and the surgeon. However, this may be at the cost of longer operative times, complications, and the risk of errors in mapping the patient's anatomy.

Abstract
The advancement of robotics-based procedures in the medical industry is the subject of this review article. The purpose of the surgical robot is to increase surgical abilities and address human shortcomings. The robot's success has been predicated on its ability to accurately and consistently repeat tasks. The following are a few objectives and quantifiable benefits of robotic technology improving surgical maneuverability and physical capabilities. In 2005, the FDA granted gynecological surgery approval for the Da Vinci surgical system. It has been quickly embraced and has already taken on a significant role at many of the locations where it is offered. It consists of a cart with robotic branches next to the patient and a high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) vision system. This study covers laparoscopy via robots in benign gynecological surgeries, myomectomy surgery, hysterectomies, endometriosis, tubal anastomosis, and sacrocolpopexy. The appropriate published studies were evaluated after a PubMed search was conducted. Additionally, procedures that may be used in the future are highlighted. In benign gynecological illness, most currently available research does not show a substantial benefit over traditional laparoscopic surgery. Robotics, however, does provide help in more complicated operations. Compared to laparoscopy, robotic assistance has a lower conversion rate to open procedures. Endo wrist movement of an automated machine during myomectomy surgery can perform proper and better suturing than traditional laparoscopy. The automated program is a noticeable improvement over laparoscopic surgery and, if price issues are resolved, can gain popularity among gynecological surgeons around the globe.

Abstract
Background: The first instance of a robotic-assisted surgery occurred in neurosurgery; however, it is now more common in other fields such as urology and gynecology. This study aims to characterize the prevalence of robotic surgery among current neurosurgery programs as well as identify trends in clinical trials pertaining to robotic neurosurgery. Methods: Each institution’s website was analyzed for the mention of a robotic neurosurgery program and procedures. The future potential of robotics in neurosurgery was assessed by searching for current clinical trials pertaining to neurosurgical robotic surgery. Results: Of the top 100 programs, 30 offer robotic cranial and 40 offer robotic spinal surgery. No significant differences were observed with robotic surgical offerings between geographic regions in the US. Larger programs (faculty size 16 or over) had 20 of the 30 robotic cranial programs (66.6%), whereas 21 of the 40 robotic spinal programs (52.5%) were at larger programs. An initial search of clinical trials revealed 223 studies, of which only 13 pertained to robotic neurosurgery. Spinal fixation was the most common intervention (six studies), followed by Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS, two studies), Cochlear implants (two studies), laser ablation (LITT, one study), and endovascular embolization (one study). Most studies had industry sponsors (9/13 studies), while only five studies had hospital sponsors. Conclusion: Robotic neurosurgery is still in its infancy with less than half of the top programs offering robotic procedures. Future directions for robotics in neurosurgery appear to be focused on increased automation of stereotactic procedures such as DBS and LITT and robot-assisted spinal surgery.

Abstract
Robotic systems for head and neck surgery are at different stages of technical development and clinical application. Currently, robotic systems are predominantly used for transoral surgery of the pharynx and larynx. Robotic surgery of the neck, the thyroid, and the middle and inner ear is much less common; however, some oncological and functional outcomes have been reported. This article provides an overview of the current state of robot-assisted head and neck surgery with a special emphasis on patient benefit and postoperative quality of life (QoL). The focus is placed on the role of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for the resection of oropharyngeal carcinomas. For this application, reported long-term outcomes show functional post-operative advantages for selected oropharyngeal cancer patients after TORS compared to open surgery and primary radiotherapy. Since TORS also plays a significant role in the context of potential therapy de-escalation for HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer patients, ongoing trials are presented. Regarding the evaluation of the therapeutic benefit and the QoL of cancer patients, special attention has to be paid to the large degree of variability of individual patients' preferences. Influencing factors and tools for a detailed assessment of QoL parameters are therefore detailed at the beginning of this article. Notably, while some robotic systems for ear and skull base surgery are being developed in Europe, TORS systems are mainly used in North America and Asia. In Europe and Germany in particular, transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) is a well-established technology for transoral tumor resection. Future trials comparing TORS and TLM with detailed investigation of QoL parameters are therefore warranted and might contribute to identifying suitable fields for the application of the different techniques.

Abstract
Uterus transplantation is barely a decade old and in a young, evolving field it is hard to identify "technological advances" since it is, in of itself, a technological advance. Nonetheless, one can still identify advances in diagnostic imaging that have improved donor screening to avoid graft losses, highlight the adoption of robotic surgery to make the living donor uterus procurement more minimally invasive, and look to a future of biotechnology like perfusion pumps and bioengineering such as synthetic uterus to increase donor supply. Additional technologies are on the horizon and promise to shape the field further.

[Robot-assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy in a patient with giant uterine fibroids and complex pelvic adhesions: a case report]. Abstract
We report a case of giant hysteromyoma and complex pelvic adhesion treated by robotic assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy. The patient was diagnosed with uterine fibroids after physical examination in 1998 but did not receive any treatment, and regular examinations reported progressive growth of the fibroids. Ultrasound suggested multiple uterine fibroids, and pelvic MRI indicated large uterine fibroids with bleeding. Robot-assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy were performed after relevant examinations, and the operation was completed smoothly. The patient was discharged 4 days after surgery with good appearance of the abdominal wall and good recovery during the follow-up. With its unique advantages, robot-assisted laparoscopy provides a minimally invasive surgical approach for giant hysterectomy with complex pelvic adhesions.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has generated the need to evolve health services to reduce the risk of contagion and promote a collaborative environment even remotely. Advances in Industry 4.0, including the internet of things, mobile networks, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence make Health 4.0 possible to connect patients with healthcare professionals. Hence, the focus of this work is analyzing the potentiality, and challenges of state-of-the-art Health 4.0 applications to face the COVID-19 pandemic including augmented environments, diagnosis of the virus, forecasts, medical robotics, and remote clinical services. It is concluded that Health 4.0 can be applied in the prevention of contagion, improve diagnosis, promote virtual learning environments, and offer remote services. However, there are still ethical, technical, security, and legal challenges to be addressed. Additionally, more imaging datasets for COVID-19 detection need to be made available to the scientific community. Working in the areas of opportunity will help to address the new normal. Likewise, Health 4.0 can be applied not only in the COVID-19 pandemic, but also in future global viruses and natural disasters.

Abstract
Background: Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy is demonstrated to be related with a facilitation in thoracoscopic procedure. To give an update on the state of art of robotic esophagectomy for cancr a systematic review with meta-analysis has been performed. Methods: a search of the studies comparing robotic and laparoscopic or open esophagectomy was performed trough the medical libraries, with the search string “robotic and (oesophagus OR esophagus OR esophagectomy OR oesophagectomy)”. Outcomes were: postoperative complications rate (anastomotic leakage, bleeding, wound infection, pneumonia, recurrent laryngeal nerves paralysis, chylotorax, mortality), intraoperative outcomes (mean blood loss, operative time and conversion), oncologic outcomes (harvested nodes, R0 resection, recurrence) and recovery outcomes (length of hospital stay). Results: Robotic approach is superior to open surgery in terms of blood loss p = 0.001, wound infection rate, p = 0.002, pneumonia rate, p = 0.030 and mean number of harvested nodes, p < 0.0001 and R0 resection rate, p = 0.043. Similarly, robotic approach is superior to conventional laparoscopy in terms of mean number of harvested nodes, p = 0.001 pneumonia rate, p = 0.003. Conclusions: robotic surgery could be considered superior to both open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. These encouraging results should promote the diffusion of the robotic surgery, with the creation of randomized trials to overcome selection bias.

Abstract
Background and Objectives Laparoscopic hysterectomy provides patients and surgeons with benefits of less pain, quicker recovery, and better scar cosmesis. Previously, robotic surgical hysterectomy was reserved for patients with complicated disease issues. The objective of this case series was evaluating a new robotic surgical platform, Senhance Surgical System, as a surgical tool in common gynecological procedures. Methods The clinic routinely collects surgical and outcome data for all patients and procedures. Data on robotic surgery in hysterectomy, salpingectomy, endometriosis excision, and lysis of adhesions was evaluated. Results Fifteen consecutive patients that underwent gynecological surgery using the Senhance System were assessed. Average age was 47.27 years (31 - 63 years). Ten procedures were robotic total laparoscopic hysterectomy and 14 of 15 procedures had at least one salpingectomy. Average blood loss was 52.7 mL (10 - 100 mL). Pain scores at discharge averaged 1.42 and 2.73 at two weeks post-surgery. Minimal pain medication was used. Patient satisfaction with the surgery was 98% and satisfaction with scarring was 100%. Return to normal activities and to work averaged 7.93 and 11.1 days respectively. The haptic feedback and the platform visualization of the procedure was useful. The system provided more surgeon control over both camera and tools compared to previously used robotic systems and traditional laparoscopic surgery. Conclusion This initial experience with Senhance Surgical System provided a stable, precise surgical technique with enhanced visualization within the confined space of the abdomen during gynecological surgery. The initial results suggest high patient satisfaction with gynecological surgery and resulting scars. Further study is needed to validate the findings.

Abstract
Integrating tactile feedback for lump localization in Robot-assisted Minimally Invasive Surgery (RMIS) represents an open research issue, which is still far to be solved. Main reasons for this are related e.g. to the need for a transparent connection with the teleoperating console, and an intuitive decoding of the delivered information. In this article, we focus on the specific case of RMIS treatment of uterine leiomyomas or fibroids, where little has been done in haptics to improve the outcomes of robotics-enabled palpation tasks. In this article, we propose the usage of a wearable haptic interface for softness rendering as a lump display. The device was integrated in a teleoperation architecture that simulates a robot-assisted surgical palpation task of leiomyomas. This article moved from an ex-vivo sample characterization of uterine tissues to show the effectiveness of our interface in conveying meaningful softness information. We extensively tested our system with gynecologic surgeons in palpation tasks with silicone specimens, which replicated the characteristics of uterine tissues with embedded leyomiomas. Results show that our system enables a softness-based discrimination of the embedded fibroids comparable to the one that physicians would achieve using directly their fingers in palpation tasks. Furthermore, the feedback provided by the haptic interface was perceived as comfortable, intuitive, and highly useful for fibroid localization.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Surgical management of deep endometriosis with colorectal involvement remains an option after failure of medical treatments. Conventional laparoscopy is currently considered the standard approach for surgical treatment. Recently, assisted-robotic laparoscopy emerged as an alternative to conventional laparoscopy but with low evidence. METHODS From March 2019 to September 2019, we conducted a prospective cohort study of 48 patients undergoing a surgical treatment for colorectal endometriosis (rectal shaving, discoid excision or segmental resection). The interventions were either performed by robotic or conventional laparoscopy. Patients' characteristics, operative and post-operative data were compared between the robotic and the conventional laparoscopic group. RESULTS 48 patients were included, 25 in the conventional laparoscopy group and 23 in the robotic group. Patients' characteristics and operative findings were similar between the two groups, except for a trend in a higher incidence of associated surgical urinary or digestive procedures in the robotic group (p = 0.06). The mean total surgical room occupancy time and operating time were longer in the in the robotic group (281 ± 97 min vs 208 ± 85 min; p = 0.008) and (221 ± 94 min vs 163 ± 83 min (p = 0.03), respectively. The mean intra operative blood loss, the incidence of intra operative, post-operative complication (according to Clavien-Dindo classification) rates and voiding dysfunction were similar in the two groups. The rate of grade III complication was higher in the robotic group (13 % vs 0%) without reaching a significance (p = 0.17). The mean hospital stay was 8 ± 4.4 days in the robotic group and 6.5 ± 2.6 days in the conventional laparoscopy group (p = 0.18). CONCLUSION Despite our initial experience in robotic surgery, our results support that robotic surgery is an adequate alternative to conventional laparoscopy for endometriosis colorectal resection.

Abstract
Endometriosis describes a condition with the presence of ectopic endometrial glands and stroma outside the endometrial cavity that affects up to 15% of reproductive-aged women. Of women affected with endometriosis, 3.8-37% will have endometriosis involving the bowel, primarily the rectosigmoid colon. While medical management is often recommended as a first-line therapy, it is not curative, and surgery is often required as an adjunct for the management of symptoms. Minimally invasive surgery has become the standard of care for managing these patients. The use of robotic-assisted laparoscopy offers benefits that may allow surgeons to perform these challenging surgical cases using a minimally invasive technique. For lesions that affect the colon, there are three primary techniques used for removal which include: 1) rectal shaving, 2) discoid excision and 3) segmental resection. The decision to pursue one approach over another is largely dependent on the number of lesions present, a lesion's size and depth of invasion as well as the involved circumference of the bowel. The available evidence of using robotic-assisted laparoscopy in cases of bowel endometriosis is limited in the literature. In this review, we will summarize the role of robotic-assisted laparoscopy in the management of bowel endometriosis.
