Abstract
Since the discovery of the first peroxidase nanozyme (Fe3O4), numerous nanomaterials have been reported to exhibit intrinsic enzyme-like activity toward inorganic oxygen species, such as H2O2, oxygen, and O2 -. However, the exploration of nanozymes targeting organic compounds holds transformative potential in the realm of industrial synthesis. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the diverse types of nanozymes that catalyze reactions involving organic substrates and discusses their catalytic mechanisms, structure-activity relationships, and methodological paradigms for discovering new nanozymes. Additionally, we propose a forward-looking perspective on designing nanozyme formulations to mimic subcellular organelles, such as chloroplasts, termed "nano-organelles". Finally, we analyze the challenges encountered in nanozyme synthesis, characterization, nano-organelle construction and applications while suggesting directions to overcome these obstacles and enhance nanozyme research in the future. Through this review, our goal is to inspire further research efforts and catalyze advancements in the field of nanozymes, fostering new insights and opportunities in chemical synthesis.

Abstract
The sensitivity of electrochemical (EC) sensors has been improved through the development of multiple approaches. However, the majority of EC sensors were limited in their practical application by high costs or tedious procedures. Herein, based on ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-Pb2+ complexation reaction, a facile and affordable immunosensor was designed. Pb2+-magnesium silicate hydrate was served as the sensing substrate. The immunorecognition process was carried out in the Eppendorf tube, and antibody-functionalized Pb2+-polydopamine was utilized as immunoprobe. In the tube, the quantitative and appropriate excess of EDTA was introduced to complex with Pb2+ on the immunoprobes. The remaining EDTA was added to the sensing substrate surface to coordinate with some Pb2+ in it. This leaded to the reduction of the EC signal of Pb2+, which was related to the antigen concentration. Using prostate-specific antigen as the model analyte, the sensitive detection was realized with a low limit of detection (30.49 fg mL-1). Remarkably, the assay results were available within 24 min, sensibly faster than the most existing EC sensors.

Abstract
Thrombin, a proteolytic enzyme, plays an essential role in catalyzing many blood clotting reactions. Thrombin can act as a marker for some blood-related diseases, such as leukemia, thrombosis, Alzheimer's disease and liver disease. Therefore, its diagnosis is of great importance in the fields of biological and medical research. Biosensors containing sandwich-type structures have attracted much consideration owing to their superior features such as reproducible and stable responses with easy improvement in the sensitivity of detection. Sandwich-type platforms can be designed using a pair of receptors that are able to bind to diverse locations of the same target. Herein, we investigate recent advances in the progress and applications of thrombin aptasensors containing a sandwich-type structure, in which two thrombin-binding aptamers (TBAs) identify different parts of the thrombin molecule, leading to the formation of a sandwich structure and ultimately signal detection. We also discuss the pros and cons of these approaches and outline the most logical approach in each section.

Abstract
The construction of materials with rapid electron transfer is considered an effective method for enhancing electrochemical activity in electroanalysis. It has been widely demonstrated that valence changes in transition metal ions can promote electron transfer and thus increase electrochemical activity. Recently, valence-variable transition metal oxides (TMOs) have shown popular application in electrochemical analysis by using their abundant valence state changes to accelerate electron transfer during electrochemical detection. In this review, we summarize recent research advances in valence changes of TMOs and their application in electrochemical analysis. This includes the definition and mechanism of valence change, the association of valence changes with electronic structure, and their applications in electrochemical detection, along with the use of density functional theory (DFT) to simulate the process of electron transfer during valence changes. Finally, the challenges and opportunities for developing and applying valence changes in electrochemical analysis are also identified.

Abstract
The rational design and preparation of available fullerene@metal-organic matrix hybrid materials are of profound significance in electrochemical biosensing applications due to their unique photoelectric properties. In this work, C60@UiO-66-NH2 nanocomposites serve as greatly promising materials to modify electrodes and fix aptamers, resulting in a remarkable electrochemical aptasensor for impedimetric sensing of tobramycin (TOB). Nanoscale composites have preferable electroactivity and small particle size with more exposed functional sites, such as Zr(IV) and -NH2, to immobilize aptamers for enhanced detection performance. As we know, most of the electrochemical impedance aptasensors require a long time to complete the detection process, but this prepared biosensor shows the rapid quantitative identification of target TOB within 4 min. This work expands the synthesis of functional fullerene@metal-organic matrix hybrid materials in electrochemical biosensing applications.

Abstract
A convenient homogeneous electrochemical thrombin sensor based on potential-assisted Au-S deposition and a dual signal amplification strategy was established in this study. Potential-assisted Au-S deposition does not require the modification of the gold electrode, thus eliminating the tedious pre-modification of the electrode. To better amplify the output signal, both ends of the signal hairpin probes were modified with a new electroactive substance, tetraferrocene, which was synthesized by the authors. Thrombin was immediately hybridized with a thiol-modified probe to open the stem-loop structure. After chain hybridization, thrombin was replaced and participated in the next round of the reaction; thus, the cascade amplification of the signal was realized. The hybrid chain formed an Au-S deposition under potential assistance, and the electrochemical signal of tetraferrocene could then be measured through differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and consequently used for the quantitative detection of target thrombin. In addition, the detection limit of thrombin was as low as 0.06 pmol/L, and the detection of common interfering proteins was highly specific.

Abstract
As a class of crystalline porous materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted increasing attention. Due to the nanoscale framework structure, adjustable pore size, large specific surface area, and good chemical stability, MOFs have been applied widely in many fields such as biosensors, biomedicine, electrocatalysis, energy storage and conversions. Especially when they are combined with aptamer functionalization, MOFs can be utilized to construct high-performance biosensors for numerous applications ranging from medical diagnostics and food safety inspection, to environmental surveillance. Herein, this article reviews recent innovations of aptamer-functionalized MOFs-based biosensors and their bio-applications. We first briefly introduce different functionalization methods of MOFs with aptamers, which provide a foundation for the construction of MOFs-based aptasensors. Then, we comprehensively summarize different types of MOFs-based aptasensors and their applications, in which MOFs serve as either signal probes or signal probe carriers for optical, electrochemical, and photoelectrochemical detection, with an emphasis on the former. Given recent substantial research interests in stimuli-responsive materials and the microfluidic lab-on-a-chip technology, we also present the stimuli-responsive aptamer-functionalized MOFs for sensing, followed by a brief overview on the integration of MOFs on microfluidic devices. Current limitations and prospective trends of MOFs-based biosensors are discussed at the end.

Abstract
In this work, a colorimetric assay for visfatin detection is described. The mixed valence state Ce-MOF (MVCM) modified by platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) is used as a novel catalyst. MVCM exhibits excellent intrinsic peroxidase-like catalytic activity due to the spontaneous recycling of the Ce(III)/Ce(IV) system. Pt NPs serve not only as a carrier of the -NH2-modified single strand DNA (S1) but also as a synergistic catalyst of MVCM. The capture probe (S2) attached to the streptavidin-modified magnetic beads (Mag-SA) could combine with the aptamer to form the Mag-SA/S2/aptamer complex. When in the presence of the target visfatin, aptamer specifically combines with the visfatin, which induces the release of Mag-SA/S2 from the Mag-SA/S2/aptamer complex. At this time, the MVCM@Pt/S1 complex connects with the released Mag-SA/S2, which quickly catalyzes the 3,3,3',3'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), leading to a color change. Under optimal conditions, the absorbance increases linearly when the concentration ranges from 1 ng mL-1 to 100 ng mL-1, and the detection limit is as low as 0.11 ng mL-1. Furthermore, Mag-SA/S2 can be reused at least five times by using the uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG) and an external magnetic field. The proposed method shows satisfying reproducibility, stability, specificity, and sensitivity, and it was successfully applied to detect visfatin in spiked human serum samples. Thus, it has great potential for clinical research, detection, and catalytic applications.

Abstract
The development of sensitive and convenient detection methods to monitor thrombin without the use of enzymes or complex nanomaterials is highly desirable for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. In this article, tetraferrocene was first synthesized and then a sensitive and homogeneous electrochemical aptasensor was developed for thrombin detection based on host-guest recognition between tetraferrocene and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). In the absence of thrombin, the double stem-loop of thrombin aptamer (TBA) prevented tetraferrocenes labeled at both ends from entering the cavity of β-CD deposited on gold electrode surface. After binding with thrombin, the stem-loop structure of TBA opened and transformed into special G-quarter structure, forcing tetraferrocene into the cavity of β-CD. As a result, thrombin allowed eight ferrocene molecules to reach the gold electrode surface, greatly amplifying the response signal. The obtained aptasensors showed dynamic detection range from 4 pM to 12.5 nM with detection limit around 1.2 pM. Overall, the results indicate that the proposed aptasensors are promising for future rapid clinical detection of thrombin and development of signal amplification strategies for detection of various proteins.

Abstract
For the first time, we report the formation of a chiral MOF-based helical nanomaterial (h-HDGA@ZIF-67) through arranging zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) nanocrystals on helical l-glutamic acid terminated bolaamphiphile (h-HDGA) via a facile process at room temperature. The self-assembly leads to the chiral function of the ZIF-67 from an achiral ligand. The h-HDGA@ZIF-67 served as a new type of electrochemical sensing interface for recognizing and quantifying Pen enantiomers that realize significant enantioselectivity, satisfactory stability, and reproducibility. The synergetic effect from ZIF-67 nanocrystals on h-HDGA and stereoselectivity of h-HDGA@ZIF-67 lead to the excellent enantioselectivity. The present strategy showed the first example of a chiral MOF-based supramolecule helical nanomaterial, presenting high enantioselectivity for electrochemical enantiomeric determination.

Abstract
In the present study, a sensitive label-free electrochemical aptasensor is introduced to measure aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) by using platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) decorated on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with Fe-based metal-organic frameworks, MIL-101(Fe). The MIL-101(Fe) and the PtNP/MIL-101(Fe) are synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible spectroscopy, and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) are done to monitor the fabrication processes of the aptasensor. In optimum conditions, the linear calibration range of 1.0 × 10-2 to 80.0 ng mL-1 and the detection limit of 2.0 × 10-3 ng mL-1 are obtained to measure AFM1 concentration using the EIS method. Finally, the fabricated aptasensor is successfully applied to measure AFM1 concentration in powder and pasteurized milk samples.

Abstract
Signal amplification is crucial in electrochemical biosensor to obtain low detection limits. In this work, a highly sensitive sandwich-type thrombin aptasensor is constructed, based on dual signal amplification of uniform silver nanowires (AgNWs) and hollow Au-CeO2 nanocomposites. AgNWs are decorated on the ITO surface to immobilize amino functionalized thrombin capture apemeter 1 (Apt1). And Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) grown directly on the surface of hollow CeO2 microstructure are used to immobilize sulfydryl functionalized thrombin reporter apemeter 2 (Apt2). Thus, sandwich-type apatasensor has been successfully designed, due to the specific recognition between thrombin and the two kinds of aptamers. One of the signal amplifications is from the good conductivity of uniform AgNWs. Moreover, uniform AgNWs together with hollow Au-CeO2 exhibit the good catalytic performance for the reduction of H2O2, further resulting in significant electrochemical signal amplification. Because the electrochemical signal amplification is closely related to the thrombin concentration, differential pulse voltammetry is used to specifically detect thrombin. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed method has a good linear response ranged from 0.5 pM to 30 nM with a low detection limit of 0.25 pM (S/N = 3) for thrombin. The proposed thrombin aptasensor displays good selectivity, reproducibility and stability, providing a good platform for the ultrasensitive detection of thrombin.

Abstract
In this work, a metallic composite with strong electrocatalytic property was designed by uniformly decorating Pt and Sn nanoparticles on the surface of TiO2 nanorods (Pt-Sn@TiO2). A detection scheme was then developed based on a dual signal amplification strategy involving the Pt-Sn@TiO2 composite and exonuclease assisted target recycling. The Pt-Sn@TiO2 composite exhibited an enhanced oxygen reduction current owing to the synergistic effect between Pt and Sn, as well as high exposure of Pt (111) crystal face. Initially, a Pt-Sn@TiO2 modified glassy carbon electrode produced an amplified electrochemical signal for the reduction of dissolved oxygen in the analyte solution. Next, a DNA with a complementary sequence to a streptomycin aptamer (cDNA) was immobilised on the Pt-Sn@TiO2 modified electrode, followed by the streptomycin aptamer that hybridised with cDNA. The corresponding oxygen reduction current was diminished by 51% attributable to the hindrance from the biomolecules. After a mixture of streptomycin and RecJf exonuclease was introduced, both the streptomycin-aptamer complex and the cDNA were cleaved from the electrode, making the Pt-Sn and Pt (111) surface available for oxygen reduction. RecJf would also release streptomycin from the streptomycin-aptamer complex, allowing it to complex again with aptamers on the electrode. This has then promoted a cyclic amplification of the oxygen reduction current by 85%, which is quantitatively related to streptomycin. Under optimal conditions, the aptasensor exhibited a linear range of 0.05-1500 nM and a limit of detection of 0.02±0.0045 nM streptomycin. The sensor was then used in the real-life sample detection of streptomycin to demonstrate its potential applications to bioanalysis.

Abstract
We designed and synthesized a novel covalent organic framework (COF) by condensation polymerization of 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-formylphenyl)pyrene and melamine through imine bonds (represented by Py-M-COF). The basic characterizations revealed that the Py-M-COF not only exhibited an extended π-conjugation framework, a large specific surface area (495.5 m2 g-1), big pore cavities, and nanosheet-like structure but also possessed rich functional groups, such as C˭C, C˭N, C˭O, and NH2. These features endowed the Py-M-COF with high charge carrier mobility, further improving the strong immobilization of DNA aptamer strands via π-π stacking interaction and electrostatic interaction. As such, the Py-M-COF-based electrochemical aptasensors are ultrasensitive in detecting different antibiotics, including enrofloxacin (ENR) and ampicillin (AMP), yielding extremely low detection limits of 6.07 and 0.04 fg mL-1 (S/N = 3) toward ENR and AMP, respectively, along with other excellent sensing performances. This biosensing platform based on Py-M-COF has potential applications for the sensitive detection of antibiotics or other analytes by replacing the corresponding aptamers.

Abstract
A sensitive aptamer/protein binding-triggered sandwich assay for thrombin is described. It is based on electrochemical-chemical-chemical redox cycling using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) that was modified with WSe2 and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The AuNPs are linked to thrombin aptamer 1 via Au-S bonds. Thrombin is first captured by aptamer 1 and then sandwiched through the simultaneous interaction with AuNPs modified with thrombin-specific aptamer 2 and signalling probe. Subsequently, the DNA-linked AuNP hybrids result in the capture of streptavidin-conjugated alkaline phosphatase onto the modified GCE through the specific affinity reaction for further signal enhancement. As a result, a linear range of 0-1 ng mL-1 and a detection limit as low as 190 fg mL-1 are accomplished. The specificity for thrombin is excellent. Conceivably, this strategy can be easily expanded to other proteins by using the appropriate aptamer. Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of an electrochemical biosensor for thrombin based on WSe2 and gold nanoparticles, aptamer-thrombin-aptamer sandwiching, redox cycling, and signal enhancement by alkaline phosphatase.

Tetrahedral DNA probe coupling with hybridization chain reaction for competitive thrombin aptasensor. Biosens Bioelectron 2017; 100:274-281. Abstract
A novel competitive aptasensor for thrombin detection is developed by using a tetrahedral DNA (T-DNA) probe and hybridization chain reaction (HCR) signal amplification. Sulfur and nitrogen co-doped reduced graphene oxide (SN-rGO) is firstly prepared by a simple reflux method and used for supporting substrate of biosensor. Then, T-DNA probe is modified on the electrode by Au-S bond and a competition is happened between target thrombin and the complementary DNA (cDNA) of aptamer. The aptamer binding to thrombin forms an aptamer-target conjugate and make the cDNA remained, and subsequently hybridizes with the vertical domain of T-DNA. Finally, the cDNAs trigger HCR, which results in a great current response by the catalysis of horseradish peroxidase to the hydrogen peroxide + hydroquinone system. For thrombin detection, the proposed biosensor shows a wide linearity range of 10-13-10-8M and a low detection limit of 11.6fM (S/N = 3), which is hopeful to apply in biotechnology and clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
Based on cascade catalysis amplification driven by glucose oxidase (GOx), a sensitive electrochemical impedimetric aptasensor for protein (carcinoembryonic antigen, CEA as tested model) was proposed by using Cu-based metal-organic frameworks functionalized with Pt nanoparticles, aptamer, hemin and GOx (Pt@CuMOFs-hGq-GOx). CEA aptamer loaded onto Pt@CuMOFs was bound with hemin to form hemin@G-quadruplex (hGq) with mimicking peroxidase activity. Through sandwich-type reaction of target CEA and CEA aptamers (Apt1 and Apt2), the obtained Pt@CuMOFs-hGq-GOx as signal transduction probes (STPs) was captured to the modified electrode interface. When 3,3-diaminobenzidine (DAB) and glucose were introduced, the cascade reaction was initiated by GOx to catalyze the oxidation of glucose, in situ generating H2O2. Simultaneously, the decomposition of the generated H2O2 was greatly promoted by Pt@CuMOFs and hGq as synergistic peroxide catalysts, accompanying with the significant oxidation process of DAB and the formation of nonconductive insoluble precipitates (IPs). As a result, the electron transfer in the resultant sensing interface was effectively hindered and the electrochemical impedimetric signal (EIS) was efficiently amplified. Thus, the high sensitivity of the proposed CEA aptasensor was successfully improved with 0.023pgmL-1, which may be promising and potential in assaying certain clinical disease related to CEA.
