Abstract
Polyamide-polyamine hybrid macrobicycle L is explored with respect to its ability to bind α,ω-dicarboxylate anions. Potentiometric studies of protonated L with the series of dianions from succinate (suc2-) through glutarate (glu2-), α-ketoglutarate (kglu2-), adipate (adi2-), pimelate (pim2-), suberate (sub2-), to azelate (aze2-) have shown adipate preference with association constant value of K = 4900 M-1 in a H2O/DMSO (50:50 v/v) binary solvent mixture. The binding constant increases from glu2- to adi2- and then continuously decreases with the length of the anion chain. Further, potentiometric studies suggest that hydrogen bonding between the guest anions and the amide/ammonium protons of the receptor also contributes to the stability of the associations along with electrostatic interactions. Negative-mode electrospray ionization of aqueous solutions of host-guest complexes shows clear evidence for the selective formation of 1:1 complexes. Single-crystal X-ray structures of complexes of the receptor with glutaric acid, α-ketoglutaric acid, adipic acid, pimelic acid, suberic acid, and azelaic acid assist to understand the observed binding preferences. The solid-state structures reveal a size/shape complementarity between the host and the dicarboxylate anions, which is nicely reflected in the solution state binding studies.

Abstract
Two fluorene-based boronic acids, 9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl-2-boronic acid (1) and 9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2,7-diyl-2,7-diboronic acid (2), were synthesized and their sensing abilities for detection of D-monosaccharides were investigated by fluorescence at physiological pH. It was found that both boronic acids 1 and 2 have high selectivity and sensitivity for D-fructose with stability constant of 47.2 and 412.9, respectively. The sensor 2 showed a linear response toward D-fructose in the concentration range from 5 × 10(-5) to 10(-1) mol L(-1) with the detection limit of 2 × 10(-5) mol L(-1).

Abstract
The past ten years have seen a spectacular development of chemical sensors based on the monomer-excimer dual luminescence of aromatic systems, such as pyrene. Either in the form of integrated or multicomponent molecular devices these chemosensors have been attracting a high interest above all because of their unique ratiometric properties. This review will focus on the latter systems, which can be classified into two classes: Firstly, the assembly of receptor-effector conjugates is triggerred by the analyte of interest. As a result, the sensor shows monomer to excimer fluorescence switching upon substrate binding. Secondly, the supramolecular assembly that constitutes the sensor is perturbed by interaction with the analyte. This induces a conformational change or the exchange of a component of the system, which is the cause of the luminescence switch effect.

Abstract
A general route to phospho- and sphingolipids that incorporate an alkyne in the phosphocholine headgroup is described. The strategy preserves the ammonium functionality of the phosphocholine and can be easily modified to introduce desired functional groups at the N-acyl chain. The targets accessible with this strategy provide a bioorthogonal handle for postsynthetic introduction of fluorophores or other labeling agents with aqueous phase chemistry. We report the synthesis of sphingomyelin derivatives that incorporate a fluorophore and an alkyne. The modified sphingolipids retain activity as substrates for sphingomyelinase, making these compounds viable probes of enzymatic activity. Importantly, the strategy allows modification of the lipid across the phosphodiester, making the alkyne a potential probe of sphingomyelinase activity.

Abstract
An intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) fluorescent probe, in which the thiourea derivative moiety is linked to the fluorescent 4-(dimethylamino) benzamide, has been designed and synthesized. The ions-selective signaling behaviors of the probe were investigated. Upon the addition of Ag+, an overall emission enhancement of 14-fold was observed. Compound 1 displayed highly selective chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) effect with Ag+ over alkali, alkali earth metal ions and some transition metal ions in aqueous methanol solutions. The prominent selective and efficient fluorescent enhancing behavior could be utilized as a new chemosensing probe for the analysis of Ag+ ion in aqueous environment.

Abstract
A novel ditopic cholic acid-based fluorescent chemosensor for ATP, 1a, was designed and synthesized. Its interactions with phosphates, AMP, ADP, ATP, CTP, GTP, and TTP have been investigated. When ATP was added to a 1:1 aqueous CH3CN solution of the sensor at pH 7.4, a significant decrease in fluorescence of 1a was observed, whereas other guest molecules showed a much smaller effect. The complex between 1a and ATP was confirmed through combined UV, 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopic methods. The uniqueness of the new sensor is that it binds with ATP 33-124 times more selectively than other nucleotides, as evidenced from the respective binding constants. 1a is a highly sensitive sensing probe; as little as 30 nM ATP can cause 15% fluorescence quenching of the sensor.
