Abstract
A new molecular structure 1 has been developed on naphthalimide motif. The amine and triazole binding groups have been employed at the 4-position of naphthalimide to explore the sensing behavior of molecule 1. Single crystal x-ray diffraction and other spectroscopic techniques confirm the identity of 1. Compound 1 exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity for Cu2+ ions in CH3CN. The binding of Cu2+ shows ∼ 70-fold enhancement in emission at 520 nm. The binding follows 1:1 interaction and the detection limit is determined to be 6.49 × 10-7 M. The amine-triazole binding site in 1 also corroborates the detection of F- through a colour change in CH3CN. Initially H-bonding and then deprotonation of amine -NH- in the presence of F- are the sequential steps involved in F- recognition with a detection limit of 4.13 × 10-7 M. Compound 1 is also sensible to CN- like F- ion and they are distinguished by Fe3+ ion. Cu2+-ensemble of 1 fluorimetrically recognizes F- among the tested anions and vice-versa. The collaborative effect of amine and triazole motifs in the binding of both Cu2+ and F-/CN- has been explained by DFT calculation.

Abstract
The synthesis, characterization, and application of a new cyanostyrylcopillar[5]arene 1 is reported. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other spectroscopic techniques confirm the identity of the new copillar 1. The X-ray diffraction study reveals that the copillar 1 exhibits a 1D supramolecular chain in the solid state involving π···π interactions along the crystallographic c-axis and 1D chains are further connected by interchain C-H···π interactions to establish 2D supramolecular layers within the crystallographic bc-plane. 2D supramolecular chains on further packing introduce a 3D structure with void spaces filled with hexane molecules. Through minimal deviation in the dihedral angle, the cyano-substituted ethylenic group in 1 shows a conjugation with the phenolic -OH, favoring intramolecular bond conjugation (ITBC) and colorimetrically detects the aliphatic amines over aromatic amines in CH3CN. Among the aliphatic amines, tertiary amines are differentiated from primary and secondary amines by the naked eye through color change. Both in solution and solid states, 1 displays vapor phase detection of volatile aliphatic amines. Antibacterial activity analysis shows that while 1 exhibits the antibiofilm action against Gram-positive pathogenic bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, it promotes biofilm formation by Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Abstract
A naphthalimide-labeled rhodamine hydrazone derivative HL has been synthesized, characterized and examined in metal ion recognition. It shows selective colorimetric detection of Cu2+ over a number of other metal ions with a detection limit of 1.66 × 10-7 M in CH3CN/HEPES buffer (v/v = 2:1, pH = 6.8). The spirolactam ring of rhodamine and the imino-phenol motif of naphthalimide in HL are involved in complexation of Cu2+ as shown by single crystal X-ray. Single crystal of the copper-complex is prepared by utilizing NaSCN and it is characterized as CuL(SCN). The emergence of new absorption at 550 nm in UV-vis and the pink color of the solution reveal the selective interaction toward Cu2+. HL is characterized as a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) system that remains 'turned OFF' while spirolactam ring exists. In the presence of Cu2+, FRET is 'turned ON' via the opening of spirolactam ring to give emission at 580 nm which is less intense due to the quenching effect of Cu2+ ion. The complexation is reversible and the ensemble of Cu2+.HL selectively recognizes S2- over a series of different anions involving a color change from pink to colorless via the formation of spirolactam ring. The copper complex CuL(SCN) is further employed to understand its efficacy as a therapeutic agent. The complex is cytotoxic to high-risk HPV positive cervical cancer cell lines like SiHa and HeLa and is efficient in the generation and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The complex also initiates nuclear blebbing and shows DNA degradation as understood by DNA laddering assay.

Abstract
The pandemic Covid-19 affects mainly adult causing fatal illness specially who have co-morbidities. But as days pass by with increasing surveillances it's gradually obvious that this devastating disease also affects the children as well as neonates with greater number. The aim of study was to determine the Covid-19 in neonates. So, we can give proper emphasis on neonatal Covid-19. This cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2020 to September 2020 at Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital in Bangladesh. Neonates with suspected Covid-19 were tested for SARS-CoV-2 by RT- PCR. Newborn who had suspected or confirmed COVID-19 mother, exposed to relatives infected with Covid-19, related with cluster outbreak or with abnormal clinical courses such as respiratory distress, not responded to conventional treatment and also abnormal chest x-ray was selected for Covid-19 test. Data regarding gestational age, birth weight, gender, positive cases and other findings were collected and analyzed. Statistics analysis was done by SPSS version 26.0. Forty three cases were Covid-19 positive. Among them 28(65.1%) cases were male and 15(34.9%) female. Term was 39(90.6%) cases and preterm 4(9.4%). Twenty nine (67.5%) cases were belonged to medicine and 14(32.6%) surgical cases. Fourteen (32.5%) cases with Covid-19 lived in Dhaka and 29(67.5%) cases in outside of Dhaka. Eleven (25.5%) cases were positive for SARS -CoV-2 by RT- PCR within 3 days, among them 5 (11.6%) cases were within 24 hours of age. Nine (20.9%) and 23(53.5%) cases were test positive at day 4-7 and 8-28 days respectively. The main symptoms at admission were respiratory difficulty (12/43, 27.9%), fever (8/43, 18.6%), convulsion (8/43, 18.6%) and reluctance to feed (7/43, 16.6%). In neonate two or more diseases coexist in same cases. Sepsis was present in 20 (46.5%) cases with COVID-19. Perinatal asphyxia was present in 10(23.3%) and pneumonia in 8 (18.6%) cases. In laboratory findings low Hb% was present in 2/43(4.7%) cases, leukopenia in 4/43(9.3%), leukocytosis in 2/43(4.7%) and thrombocytopenia in 5/43(11.6%). Elevated CRP was present in 14/29 (32.6%) cases, hypernatremia in 10/33 (30.3%), hyponatremia in 1/33(3%), increased serum creatinine in 10/18(55.6%), and prolonged PT, aPTT in 2/2(100%). Hyperglycaemia was found in 1/15(6.7%) cases and hypoglycaemia in 2/15(13.3%). No organism was found in blood C/S. In chest X-ray, one showed patchy opacities in right lower lobe, another showed bilateral ground-glass opacity and third one revealed few patchy opacities in the right perihilar region. Among 43 cases 21(48.9%) were discharged with advice, 12(27.9%) cases referred to Covid-19 designated hospital, 2(4.7%) cases LAMA (Leave against medical advice) and 8(18.6%) cases died including one surgical case. A good number (43) of Covid-19 cases were found in this study. In neonates the clinical features could not be differentiated properly between Covid-19 or associated diseases unlike children and adult. The neonate may be a source of transmission of this disease. So, we should give proper emphasis on test, tracing and management of neonatal Covid-19.

Abstract
Adenyl urea derivative 1 which exhibits anion interaction has been synthesized and characterized. With reference to the earlier reported compounds 2 and 3, compound 1 shows interaction to basic anions F- and pyruvate in CHCl3. The binding interaction has been illustrated by fluorescence, UV-vis and 1H NMR spectroscopic methods. The conformational behavior and the binding features of 1 with F- and pyruvate in CHCl3 are explained by theoretical study.

Abstract
Napthalimide-linked pyridylazo derivatives 1 and 2 have been designed and synthesized. Compound 1 acts as a gelator in DMF-H2O (1 : 1, v/v). The brown gel is photostable and shows good viscoelastic properties. The value of G' is almost 10 times higher than that of G'' over the entire range of frequencies at a constant strain of 1%. The SEM image shows the presence of densely stacked flakes. In comparison, compound 2, devoid of free phenolic -OH, does not show gelation properties under identical conditions. However, the brown gel of 1 shows selective sensing of CN- ions over a series of anions involving phase change through the deprotonation mechanism. While the brown gel of 1 is selectively ruptured in the presence of CN- to the sol, compound 1 in solution shows measurable UV-vis and emission changes in the presence of CN- over the other anions and validates the visual sensing of CN-. In the test-kit application, the yellow paper strip turned into pinkish-red upon contact with CN-.

Abstract
Compound 1 forms gels in DMF–H2O (1 : 1, v/v) and DMSO–H2O (1 : 1, v/v). While it was insensitive to any metal ion in DMF–H2O, the gel state was responsive to Fe3+ over the other metal ions studied. In CH3CN or aqueous CH3CN compound 1 senses Cu2+ ion.

Abstract
A new 1,2,3-triazole-based imino-phenol 1 is synthesized. It selectively senses Zn2+ in CH3CN–H2O with a detection limit of 1.8 × 10−6 M. Further, the selective sensing of Cu2+ and picric acid is achieved by the ensemble 1.Zn2+ in CH3CN–H2O.

Abstract
PURPOSE Thirty-day mortality of patients with hip fracture is well researched and predictive; validated scoring tools have been developed (Nottingham Hip Fracture Score, NHFS). COVID-19 has significantly greater mortality in the elderly and comorbid patients which includes hip fracture patients. Non-operative treatment is not appropriate due to significantly higher mortality, and therefore, these patients are often exposed to COVID-19 in the peri-operative period. What is unclear is the effect of concomitant COVID-19 infection in these patients. METHODS A multicentre prospective study across ten sites in the United Kingdom (responsible for 7% of hip fracture patients per annum in the UK). Demographic and background information were collected by independent chart review. Data on surgical factors included American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, time to theatre, Nottingham Hip fracture score (NHFS) and classification of fracture were also collected between 1st March 2020 and 30th April 2020 with a matched cohort from the same period in 2019. RESULTS Actual and expected 30-day mortality was found to be significantly higher than expected for 2020 COVID-19 positive patients (RR 3.00 95% CI 1.57-5.75, p < 0.001), with 30 observed deaths compared against the 10 expected from NHFS risk stratification. CONCLUSION COVID-19 infection appears to be an independent risk factor for increased mortality in hip fracture patients. Whilst non-operative management of these fractures is not suggested due to the documented increased risks and mortality, this study provides evidence to the emerging literature of the severity of COVID-19 infection in surgical patients and the potential impact of COVID-19 on elective surgical patients in the peri-operative period.

Abstract
The benzimidazole moiety, being a versatile heterocyclic unit, finds potential utility in
multiple applications ranging from material science to medicinal chemistry. Benzimidazole derivatives
are widely chosen as a multifunctional unit for the synthesis of bioactive organic compounds
because of their structural similarities to the natural nucleotides. They are also used as heteroaromatic
scaffolds in molecular probes for sensing and bio-imaging. Amphoteric nature of the benzimidazole
ring forms the basis of designing new fluorescent architectures for various metal ions, anions, nitroaromatics
as well as neutral organic molecules. Alongside, recent years have also witnessed the
emerging development of benzimidazole-based supramolecular gels, useful in sensing and water purification.
Supramolecular gels are a special class of self-assembled structures formed by weak noncovalent
interactions between the molecules and are easily tuned by external stimuli. Such stimuliresponsive
gels serve as smart materials because of their abilities to undergo gel-to-gel, or gel-to-sol
transition upon subtle change of the gel environment. Of various stimuli, ion coordination draws attention
for their visual detection and to adapt material properties. The ion-sensitive gels act as
fascinating biomaterials with potential applications in drug delivery, optoelectronics and catalysis.
Thus, designing of such ion-responsive gels is challenging. The rising popularity of benzimidazole
based-gels is related to its advanced properties such as π-bridging, hydrogen bonding, fluorescence
and ion coordinating abilities. This review focuses on recently developed various ion-responsive
benzimidazole motif-based supramolecular gelators by summarising the crucial role of the structural
parameters of benzimidazole gelators. Beside ion sensing, we also desire to summarize other possible
applications of gelators in material chemistry. Finally, the necessity and possibility of further exploration
of benzimidazole/ benzimidazolium derived gelators are briefly described.

Abstract
To develop fluorophore-labelled pyridinium-based macromolecular architectures for fluorometric and colorimetric detection of anions, two polymers P1 and P2 are synthesized. Linear polymer P1 and cross-linked polymer P2, prepared from N-methacryloyl-3-aminopyridine monomers via free radical polymerization followed by quaternization of the pyridine ring nitrogen with anthracene as a fluorescent marker, have been successfully employed in anion sensing. P1 exhibits excellent sensing of HPPi in aqueous DMSO. In addition to the enhancement of fluorescence emission of the anthracene moiety, P1 exclusively shows excimer/exciplex emission in the presence of HPPi over other anions and exhibits selectivity to HPPi with a detection limit of about 1.63 ppm. Cross-linked P2 exhibits naked-eye detection of PPi/HPPi over other anions studied via indicator displacement assay (IDA).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The study aimed to look at alterations in expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) and their potential use as biomarkers in the pathogensis of SLE. METHODS SLE patients (n = 41) and healthy controls (n = 50) were recruited. Quantitative RT-PCR/ELISA assays were performed for expression of MMP and TIMP mRNA in whole blood and PBMC; and corresponding serum protein levels. Intracellular levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins were analysed by flow cytometry. RESULTS Based on SLEDAI scores patients were grouped into active (SLEDAI ≥ 10) and inactive cases (SLEDAI < 10). In active cases, MMP-2 expression significantly increased and TIMP-2 expression was decreased (p < 0.0001) both at serum secretion (p = 0.0003) and mRNA (p < 0.0001) levels as compared to inactive cases. MMP-9 and TIMP-1 showed significantly reduced serum secretion and mRNA expression (p < 0.0001) in active cases as compared to inactive cases. Intracellular concentration of MMP-9 was reported to be higher in neutrophils, while MMP-2 was mainly found in lymphocytes of SLE patients as compared to controls. MMP/TIMP ratio profile was altered as SLE disease progresses. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest disturbed MMP and TIMP levels have a role in the pathogenesis of SLE.

Abstract
2,6-Diaminopyridine-coupled rhodamines 1 and 2 have been synthesized, and the effect of substitution on amine functionality toward metal-ion interactions and self-assembly is thoroughly investigated. Both the compounds effectively recognize different metal ions of biological significance fluorimetrically and colorimetrically with a high degree of selectivity and sensitivities. While compound 1 is sensitive to Fe3+ ions, compound 2 is responsive to both Fe3+ and Al3+ ions in aqueous CH3CN (4/1, v/v; 10 mM tris HCl buffer, pH 6.8). The sensing mechanism involves the metal-ion chelation-induced spirolactam ring opening of the rhodamine scaffold that results in both color and fluorescence changes, while the extent of interactions with the metal ions is truly governed by the chemical structure of the compounds. Both 1 and 2 are proficient in detecting Fe3+ and Al3+ ions in human lung cancer cells (A549). As new findings, unlike 1, compound 2 formed a faint pink gel in the toluene-hexane mixture solvent (1:1, v/v), and the gel state of 2 selectively recognizes Ag+ ions by exhibiting a phase change from gel to purple sol. Experimental findings establish the role of the formamide moiety in forming the self-assembly.

Abstract
The human breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP), one of the members of the large ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, is crucial for resistance against chemotherapeutic agents. Currently, it has been emerged as one of the best biological targets for the designing of small molecule drugs capable of eliminating multidrug resistance in breast cancer. In order to gain insights into the relationship between the molecular structure of compounds and the ABCG2 inhibition, a multi-QSAR approach using different methods was performed on a dataset of 294 ABCG2 inhibitors with diverse scaffolds. The best models obtained by different chemometric methods have the following statistical characteristics: Monte Carlo Optimization-based QSAR (sensitivity = 0.905, specificity = 0.6255, accuracy = 0.756, and MCC = 0.545), Bayesian classification model (sensitivity = 0.735, specificity = 0.775, and concordance = 0.757); structural and physicochemical interpretation analysis-random forest method (balance accuracy = 0.750, sensitivity = 0.810, and specificity = 0.700). Additionally, structural fingerprints modulating the ABCG2 inhibitory properties were identified from the best models of each method and also validated with each other. The current modelling study is an attempt to get a deep insight into the different important structural fingerprints modulating ABCG2 inhibition.

Abstract
Compounds 1, 2 and 3 with a common strategy of variation of substituent at the 4-position of naphthalimide have been designed and synthesized. Of the three structures, compound 1 has been established as F- sensor in CH3CN involving a color change from colorless to pink. The pink color is discharged in the presence of water or any polar protic solvent. By comparison, while compound 3 did not show any response towards anions, compound 2 under identical conditions exhibited color change from light yellow to pink in presence of several basic anions such as F-, AcO- and H2PO4-. This emphasizes the importance on structural tuning in establishing a new effective sensor for a particular anion. F--induced deprotonation of 1 and its reprotonation with water has been employed as the working principle to detect the moisture content in various organic solvents. In addition, F--activated CO2 sensing via color and fluorescence changes have been demonstrated using chemosensor 1. Compound 1 and F- coated paper exhibit color change on heating and cooling. Writing on this 1.F- coated paper using AcO- ion as ink and its appearance/disappearance on heating/cooling has been possible successfully.

Abstract
A new copillar[5]arene-coupled rhodamine probe 1 shows selective sensing of Hg2+ ions over a series of metal ions in CH3CN by exhibiting color change of the solution as well as turn on fluorescence. It also shows interaction with Cu2+ by exhibiting different color and spectral change. Tetrabutylammonium iodide distinguishes between Hg2+ and Cu2+ ions.

Abstract
Diamiomaleonitrile-based gelators 1 and 2 were designed and synthesized. Toluene and 1,2-dichlorobenzene gels of 1 and 2, respectively sense F− and CN− anions. Both 1 and 2 show phase-selective gelation (PSG) with distinguishable feature. Toluene gel of 1 acts as injectable material and is applied in environmental remediation.

Abstract
Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease where an interplay between acute phase proteins and cytokines are involved in disease activation. Aim and Objectives: This case control study was performed to investigate interrelationship between high sensitivity C-reactive proteins (hs-CRP), Interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels and disease activity among SLE patients. Materials and Methods: One hundred forty one clinically diagnosed SLE cases were included and disease activity was noted by SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI). Serum IL-6 levels were measure by cytokine multiplex assay. Serum hs-CRP, C3 and C4 levels were measure by nephelometer. The Pearson correlation test was used for correlation between hs-CRP, Il-6 and SLEDAI. Results: Based on SLEDAI, 126 patients (89.4 %) had active disease and 15 patients (10.6%) had inactive disease. Mean hs-CRP levels in SLE patients were significantly higher (12.1+ 11.5 mg/L) than controls (2.41+ 1.37 mg/L) (P < 0.0001). Hs-CRP levels among active SLE were significantly higher (13.5+ 11.4 mg/L) as compared with inactive SLE (4.4 + 2.9 mg/L) (P=0.0002). Similarly, IL-6 levels in SLE patients were significantly higher among active SLE (26.9 + 15.5 pg/ml) as compared with inactive SLE (13.9+ 10.2 pg/ml) (P=0.0001). An inverse correlation between Il-6 and hemoglobin levels between active and inactive SLE was noted (r=-0.46, P <0.0001). Conclusion: This study suggests a good correlation between hs-CRP, IL-6 and SLE disease activity indicating their direct involvement in inflammatory conditions associated with disease.

Abstract
Several studies have demonstrated associations between interleukin-18 polymorphisms and risk of systemic lupus erythematosus in different populations except one of Indian origin. We therefore investigated for the influence of interleukin-18 (-1297T/C, -607A/C, -137G/C; + 105A/C) polymorphisms on genetic susceptibility and clinical expression of the disease in Indian systemic lupus erythematosus patients. A total of 200 systemic lupus erythematosus patients and 201 controls were recruited. Genotyping of interleukin-18 polymorphisms were performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Serum interleukin-18 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Interleukin-18 (-1297T/C; -137G/C) polymorphisms showed significant association with genetic susceptibility to the disease in our systemic lupus erythematosus cohort. Stratification analysis revealed -1297CC and -1297C associated with renal involvement (odds ratio = 3.4, correcting p value = 0.0207), (odds ratio = 2.0, correcting p value = 0.0054) respectively. Additionally, -1297C allele frequency was significantly increased in patients with anti-nucleosome antibody (odds ratio = 2.1, correcting p value = 0.0301). Haplotype analysis showed CC haplotype strongly associated with serositis (odds ratio = 9.1, correcting p values = 0.0009) and neurologic involvement (odds ratio = 9.3, correcting p value = 0.0018). We reported a 2.7-fold increase in serum interleukin-18 levels in patients (511.5 ± 242.3 pg/ml) compared to controls (189.4 ± 80.8 pg/ml) ( p < 0.0001). Furthermore, interleukin-18 levels were positively correlated with disease activity ( r = 0.548, p = 0.0001) and renal involvement in the patients with lupus nephritis ( r = 0.569, p < 0.0001). In summary, interleukin-18 polymorphisms elucidated in this study appear to confer genetic susceptibility to the disease and are associated with renal, serositis and neurologic involvement in Indian systemic lupus erythematosus patients.

Abstract
Cholesterol appended sulfonyl-hydrazone derivative 1 was designed and synthesized as a supramolecular gelator for anionic sensing and dye adsorption. Gelator 1 forms a strong gel in DMSO–H2O and the morphology of the xerogel shows a tiny rod-like fibrous network. The gel of 1 shows a selective response toward CN− and F− ions causing gel-to-sol transformation. The gel of 1 acts as an efficient matrix for adsorption and removal of anionic dyes such as erythrosine B and uranine from water.
