Abstract
A simple protocol has been developed for the chemoselective synthesis of ferrocene-containing Rauhut-Currier adducts from 1-ferrocenyl-2-nitroethene and vinyl ketones using 20 mol% of triphenylphosphine. Multifunctional ferrocene derivatives were obtained in moderate to high yields (51-92%) by the coupling between the α-position of vinyl ketones and the β-position of the nitroalkene. The study of the Rauhut-Currier reaction under the described conditions showed that the strong electron-donating group at the β-position of nitroalkenes plays a significant role in the reaction outcome due to prevention of polymerization and stabilization of the zwitterionic intermediate. Additionally, a preparative synthesis of 4-ferrocenyl-3-methylene-5-nitropentan-2-one was carried out and its synthetic transformations showed easy conversion to other useful building blocks.

Abstract
The tropical disease malaria is responsible for more than 400,000 deaths annually, especially in Southeast Asia and Africa. Although the number of malaria cases is declining, there still is an urgent need for novel antimalarial agents. The emergence of hybrid antimalarial agents and the precedence set by the antimalarial drug ferroquine (FQ) prompted us to design new ferrocene-containing quinoline structures. Herein, we report the efficient synthesis of three different series of ferrocene-quinoline conjugates and a class of ferrocene-containing heterotricycles in good to high yields. For all twenty novel ferrocenyl derivatives, electrochemical properties were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and antiplasmodium evaluation against a chloroquine-susceptible NF54 strain of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum was conducted, pointing to three compounds showing submicromolar potency. Subsequently, cytotoxicity assays against a Chinese Hamster Ovarian cell line and evaluation against a chloroquine-resistant strain of Plasmodium falciparum for these three compounds revealed selective and promising antiplasmodium activity.

Abstract
Transition metal-stabilized carbocations are characterized by synthetically valuable interactions, yet, to date there are no comprehensive reports of the many bonding modes that can exist between a metal and carbocation. This review summarizes developments in these complexes to provide a clear picture of their properties and reactivities. In order to strategically exploit them, we propose this summary of the different bonding modes for transition metal-carbocation complexes. These models will help chemists understand the orbital interactions involved in these compounds so that they can approach their synthetic goals most effectively. Multiple transition metals and carbocations will be discussed.

This Review summarizes the progress achieved in the chemistry of tetrahydroquinolines, with emphasis on their synthesis, during the period from mid-2010 to early 2018.
