Abstract
Traceless solid-phase synthesis represents an ultimate sophisticated synthetic strategy on insoluble supports. Compounds synthesized on solid supports can be released without a trace of the linker that was used to tether the intermediates during the synthesis. Thus, the target products are composed only of the components (atoms, functional groups) inherent to the target core structure. A wide variety of synthetic strategies have been developed to prepare products in a traceless manner, and this review is dedicated to all aspects of traceless solid-phase organic synthesis. Importantly, the synthesis does not need to be carried out on a linker designed for traceless synthesis; most of the synthetic approaches described herein were developed using standard, commercially available linkers (originally devised for solid-phase peptide synthesis). The type of structure prepared in a traceless fashion is not restricted. The individual synthetic approaches are divided into eight sections, each devoted to a different methodology for traceless synthesis. Each section consists of a brief outline of the synthetic strategy followed by a description of individual reported syntheses.

Abstract
A synthetically useful protocol has been developed for the preparation of highly functionalized N-pyrrolylbenzimidazol-2-ones. The reaction of variously substituted 3-aroyl- and 3-alkanoylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with commercially available enamines in acetic acid results in a rapid rearrangement and formation of N-pyrrolylbenzimidazol-2-ones in modest to excellent yields. The key step of the rearrangement involves the novel ring contraction of 3-aroyl- and 3-alkanoylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with enamines. In this case, the atom of carbon which is displaced from the pyrazine ring of quinoxalin-2(1H)-one becomes the fourth carbon atom of the newly formed pyrrole ring. The method is applicable for the aza analogues of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones.

A direct
method for the regioselective construction of benzimidazolones
is reported wherein a single palladium catalyst is employed to couple
monosubstituted urea substrates with differentially substituted 1,2-dihaloaromatic
systems. In this method, the catalyst is able to promote a cascade
of two discrete chemoselective C–N bond-forming processes that
allows the highly selective and predictable formation of complex heterocycles
from simple, readily available starting materials.

Abstract
Electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra of mono, di, and tri-nitro benzimidazolones are measured at room temperature (298 K) in nine solvents with different polarities and the observed shifts are compared with benzimidazolone. Ground and excited state electric dipole moments are determined using the solvatochromic method based on the bulk solvent properties, F(1)(ε, n) and F(2)(ε, n). A reasonable agreement is observed between the experimental and ab initio dipole moments. Change in dipole moment is also determined using the solvatochromic method based on the microscopic solvent polarity parameter, (E(T)(N)), which considers the polarization changes due to hydrogen bonding in different solvents. It has been observed that the correlation of the solvatochromic Stokes shifts with the parameter (E(T)(N)), is superior to that derived using bulk solvent polarity functions for all the benzimidazolones reported in the present study. Calculated difference between excited state and ground state dipole moments seems to be a good measure of the effect of nitro group when correlated with (E(T)(N)).

Abstract
A new protocol for intramolecular N-arylations of ureas to form benzimidazol-2-ones has been developed. The cyclization reaction occurs in the presence of KOH and DMSO at close to ambient temperature. Under these conditions the yields are high and a wide range of functional groups are tolerated.
