Abstract
Herein, the ruthenium-catalyzed regioselective sp2(C-H) monoalkenylation of N-arylpyridones has been demonstrated, where the pyridone was utilized as a weakly coordinating directing group. Importantly, the current methodology has been effectively applied to the synthesis of many drug analogues such as pirfenidone, naproxen, ibuprofen, geraniol, umbelliferone, pregnenolone, and estrone. This methodology tolerates a wide range of functional groups and yields up to 93% yield. A six-membered ruthenium complex was also detected by HRMS.

Abstract
A simple electrochemically mediated method for the conversion of alkyl carboxylic acids to their borylated congeners is presented. This protocol features an undivided cell setup with inexpensive carbon-based electrodes and exhibits a broad substrate scope and scalability in both flow and batch reactors. The use of this method in challenging contexts is exemplified with a modular formal synthesis of jawsamycin, a natural product harboring five cyclopropane rings.

Abstract
Alkynes are highly attractive motifs in organic synthesis due to their presence in natural products and bioactive molecules as well as their versatility in a plethora of subsequent transformations. A common procedure to insert alkynes into (hetero)arenes, such as the thiophenes studied herein, consists of a halogenation followed by a Sonogashira cross-coupling. The regioselectivity of this approach depends entirely on the halogenation step. Similarly, direct alkynylations of thiophenes have been described that follow the same regioselectivity patterns. Herein we report the development of a palladium catalyzed C-H activation/alkynylation of thiophenes. The method is applicable to a broad range of thiophene substrates. For 3-substituted substrates where controlling the regioselectivity between the C2 and C5 position is particularly challenging, two sets of reaction conditions enable a regiodivergent reaction, giving access to each regioisomer selectively. Both protocols use the thiophene as limiting reagent and show a broad scope, rendering our method suitable for late-stage modification.

Abstract
π-Extended systems are key components for the development of future organic electronic technologies. While conceiving molecules with improved properties is fundamental for the evolution of materials science, keeping control over the 3D arrangement of molecules represents an ever-expanding challenge. Herein, a synthetic protocol to replace carbon atoms of π-systems by dissymmetric phosphorus atoms is reported; in particular, it allowed for conceiving new fused phosphapyrene derivatives with improved properties. The presence of dissymmetric phosphorus atoms precluded the formation of excimers. X-ray diffraction revealed that, meanwhile, strong intermolecular interactions are taking place in the solid state. The phosphapyrenes photoluminesce in the visible region with high quantum yields; importantly, they are CD-active. In addition, the unique non-planar features of phosphorus atoms allowed for the control of the 3D arrangement of molecules, rendering lemniscate-like structures. Based on our discoveries, we envisage the possibility to construct higher-order, chiral 3D architectures from larger phosphorus-containing π-systems.

Abstract
The regioselective functionalization of heteroarenes is a highly attractive synthetic target due to the prevalence of multiply substituted heteroarenes in nature and bioactive compounds. Some substitution patterns remain challenging: While highly efficient methods for the C2-selective olefination of 3-substituted five-membered heteroarenes have been reported, analogous methods to access the 5-olefinated products have remained limited by poor regioselectivities and/or the requirement to use an excess of the valuable heteroarene starting material. Herein we report a sterically controlled C-H olefination using heteroarenes as the limiting reagent. The method enables the highly C5-selective olefination of a wide range of heteroarenes and is shown to be useful in the context of late-stage functionalization.

Abstract
The Pd-mediated cross-coupling of (hetero)arenes with alkenes may be an effective method for the formation of a C–C bond from two C–H bonds. Discovered by Fujiwara and co-workers in 1967, this reaction led to a number of reports that we firstly highlighted in 2011 (review with references till June 2010) and for which, we retained the name “dehydrogenative Heck reaction”. The topic, especially the reactions of five-membered heteroarenes, has been the subject of intensive research over the last ten years. The present review is limited to these dehydrogenative Heck reactions published since 2010, underlining the progress of the procedures.

Abstract
Pd(II)-catalyzed dehydrogenative Heck olefination of selenophenes with a broad olefinic substrate scope and high functional group tolerance is demonstrated. Carbonyl-substituted and phenyl-substituted olefins with electron-donating (D) and electron-accepting (A) groups can be regioselectively installed at C2 of the selenophene. The 2-olefinated selenophenes can subsequently undergo a second oxidative olefination to rapidly produce a new class of symmetrical D-π-D or unsymmetrical D-π-A 2,5-diolefinated selenophene materials.

Abstract
Zeolite Y nanosheets with a micro-meso-macroporous structure were synthesized, and applied in the assembly of a Pd catalyst (Pd/NS-Y) for direct vinylation of thiophenes with high activity and selectivity, as compared to Pd(OAc)2, Pd(NO3)2, and Pd(PPh3)4 catalysts. This feature should be assigned to the highly dispersed Pd(δ+) (δ < 2) species in Pd/NS-Y, which are more active than Pd(2+).

Abstract
The oxidative coupling of arenes and alkenes is an attractive strategy for the synthesis of vinylarenes, but reactions with unactivated alkenes have typically occurred in low yield. We report an Ir-catalyzed oxidative coupling of furans with unactivated olefins to generate branched vinylfuran products in high yields and with high selectivities with a second alkene as the hydrogen acceptor. Detailed mechanistic experiments revealed catalyst decomposition pathways that were alleviated by the judicious selection of reaction conditions and application of new ligands.

In the title structure, C8H6BrNS, the molecules are planar with the exception of the methyl H atoms. In the crystal, molecules are linked by intermolecular C—H⋯N interactions to form ribbons parallel to the b axis. Groups of ribbons are arranged in a herringbone pattern to form a layered structure parallel to the ab plane.
